Pros: Marketo is a great marketing tool that allows automating repetitive marketing activities. I am using Marketo since 4 years. We use it to improve our lead generation process and we integrated Marketo with Salesforce. We are using Marketo Forms embedded on our website to get the personal information, track the activities done by leads and notify the sales reps. We are able to track campaigns (members are synced to Salesforce campaigns) and lead sources to measure effectiveness of marketing activities. We created a series of program templates that can be replicated to manage events, webinars, newsletters or email blastings. Cloning the templates all our marketers can start a new program easily customizing just the details, without errors and saving time. I want to mention a powerful feature that I use daily - smart lists - they allows to target a specific audience and continuously been fed with new members that match the criteria.

Cons: - Integration with MS Dynamics: we started with MS dynamics CRM and the integration is not seamless as the integration with Salesforce. We had unresolved issues for 3 years until we decided to move our CRM to Salesforce. - Consulting Services: we started our project with direct Marketo consulting services but our project manager was not responsive and we had the impression that each PM had too many customers to manage and do not have the time to dedicate the right effort to each project. For this reason, we moved our project to an external consultant firm and the results are much better. - Support: the response time of the standard support is not quick and usually it takes some days to resolve it. - Landing pages: it is missing a validation workflow on the thank you pages (to be sure that those who will access the thank you page have successfully filled-out the form included in the landing page) - Reporting: the reports are very basics

Comments: Marketo gives me the opportunity to seamlessly deliver information to the sales users in my organization through the Marketo Sales Insights tool in Salesforce as well as triggered alerts/emails. I really enjoy the speed of the Salesforce sync as we are able to create/monitor campaigns and attribute revenue almost instantly.

Pros: Marketo is consistently ranked by analysts as a top automation solution, and I can finally see why! As a marketer, it's simple to use but also robust for program management from creation to reporting. On a day-to-day basis, I use Marketo within a B2B environment and we wouldn't be able to function without it. It's a key tool for my marketing strategy, one of our most used functionalities is cloning programs, tactics, and campaigns. This allows us to make fewer mistakes and maintain continuity from user-to-user, an efficiency for my nimble, growing team. What I'd like to see is continued product improvement driven by customer voices. I'm excited for the new Mercury UI to debut in 2018!

Cons: As an admin within a small team, the uptime to full functionality can be like climbing a steep hill on a cold day. Simply put, learning this tool can feel cumbersome if it's not your only responsibility. Luckily, the Marketing Nation Community combined with the product docs and Marketo University prove to be helpful resources for growing your knowledge. Within a year I was able to confidently learn the tool, contribute new ideas, and become a Marketo Certified Expert (MCE). Service/support - Compared to other automation platforms, there seems to be limited support and desire for accounts to have a 1:1 communication on a regular basis with an account rep. We've recently been assigned a new rep and we're making progress.

Pros: Marketo is the "Porsche with a manual transmission" of marketing automation platforms. It's full of cool features and is incredibly powerful. The strengths: 1) Workflow flexibility that is unmatched by other platforms. Building complex data management, lead scoring, and organizational processes (such as lead routing) is very achievable in Marketo. They basically give you every function they can possibly code and let their customers piece them together as they like (more on this in #7). 2) The engagement programs, primarily meant for lead nurturing, are truly best-in-class. It's a little bit of an adjustment at first, but it really simplifies complex nurturing tracks and saves marketers from putting prospects into multiple tracks at once (which happens more than most admit) 3) The vision is impressive. Marketo has a clear, long-term vision that they continually deliver on. Examples being advances in personalization, ABM, ect. I'd bet on them to lead the way (or buy the way via Vista ) to whatever is next in marketing automation, such as AI or machine learning.

Cons: I love Marketo. But, there are some things I don't love. 1) The landing page builder has made improvements but still, leaves some to be desired. Unless a template available for import matches what you'd like to do, you pretty much have to hire a developer to build your templates. 2) The reporting is somewhat overhyped. They REALLY sell revenue cycle analytics, but in reality, it's tough to implement and even tougher to accurately maintain. Since data is essentially timestamped and not stored in an external record (i.e. like Salesforce has for a campaign member), if you mess it up, you're SOL. Marketo's advice to me was "don't mess up."

Pros: - UI Usability & design. - Tracking of programs from creation to execution, including success and engagement across programs like webinars, events, web pages and multi-step or channel campaigns. - Complex criteria for building out nurture programs based on targeted parameters and real-time interactions. - Global partitions and platform internationalization. - Real-time personalization

Cons: - Search functionality could be a lot easier with keywords, or created date. I know the platform just updated to search based on URL, but it could use a bit more work to make it easier for newer employees who have tons of legacy items to sift through. - Speed of platform is sometimes frustrating - it can be great at times...other times it lags beyond belief, when pulling lists, approving emails and landing pages, and just jumping from campaign to campaign. Sometimes I have to even restart or refresh the platform just to get it moving again. - Campaign calendar layout is not intuitive and leaves marketing teams resorting to a Google Calendar or similar feature to track campaign sequencing and deliverables. It's usable if you spend some time in it, but it definitely could be better.

Recommendations to other buyers: *Make sure to understand pricing - sometimes it increases annually by a percentage, other times support isn't included...and you'll definitely want to pay for the extra support. *Your CRM needs to be clean and dialed in to what you expect to sync with in Marketo. If your database is cluttered with duplicates and processes are not in place yet, work on that first before moving into Marketo otherwise you are in for a world of hurt. *Understand this is a platform that has multiple components. If your marketing team is a person of one, that person will most likely have a full time role in Marketo. So there is a resource issue you have to be aware of - also from the other end of the spectrum, you need to make sure there aren't too many cooks in the kitchen. Having a few power users and processes in place to manage Marketo is the best way to handle this. *Not a deal-breaker, but make sure even basic users are familiar w/ basic HTML and CSS as it is necessary to troubleshoot frequent styling errors.

Pros: The reason why I referred the application as an ultimate platform is that it gathers all information about your digital marketing campaigns emails, online forms, marketing material etc. at a single place. It is a user-friendly interface which is easily understandable by you and it has a very brilliant capability of automating almost everything. In this, one can build a variety of things like email templates, landing pages, etc. It supports multi-touch campaigns and multichannel. It is broad and very useful for CRM Integration and most importantly Analytics. It increases efficiency in a variety of ways (like the ability to create a tokenized template) as well as its Lead management process is also brilliant!! Its capabilities are very vast, Comprehensive campaigns capabilities are one of them.

Cons: Here are a few cons which shouldn't be ignored. Reporting of Analytics of Marketo is very bad and in addiction smart list designs are not flexible and it is very difficult to design them. Most importantly it is not within the range of all types of people, as its rates are little bit higher. Its interface should be improved for new users as well as some software bugs should also be fixed regarding auto-saving. It loads the previewing list very slowly. Its Spam Identification feature also very poor as well as email and landing page analytics are also not enough. But at last, I want to say that the major issue with it, is regarding its speed of loading the application which needs a lot of improvement

Comments: We are using Marketo across the whole organization to improve and automate our marketing activities. We are using it at corporate level as well as in each operation (US, UK, DACH, France, Italy, APAC, etc). We improved ability to attract new leads and the engagement of visitors on our website.

Pros: - Workflow: the logic behind the workflows allows to automate manual activities - Lead gen: we improved the engagement of the visitors on our website and we manage the entire lead generation process on Marketo integrated with our CRM. - Programs: it is easy to create and manage emailing and nurture programs with the ability to set rules when the email should be sent. - Forms: we are using Marketo forms and we embedded them on our website.

Cons: - Integration with Dynamics: after 3 years we still have some issues on the integration with MS Dynamics... the 2 systems are not well integrated. - Support: sometimes we had some issues with getting quick replies from support. - Landing pages: it is missing a validation workflow on the thank you pages (to be sure that those who will access the thank you page have successfully filled-out the form included in the landing page).

Pros: I used Marketo in my last role for about three years and was always impressed. Marketo does a great job of integrating very seamlessly with Salesforce and in a sales role, this is imperative to your success. You are able to track not only your emails, but develop sophisticated campaigns to drive engagement in a particular market or across a broad spectrum. Above all, Marketo gave you the flexibility to develop an idea and execute on it successfully. Additionally, the system was great in providing the engagement reports key prospects had with our organization. As a sales professional, quality leads some times make or break a quota. Marketo feeds you quality leads that you're able to rank based on many algorithms. Having an understanding of what your prospect is most interested in, creates a much more effective first conversation, rather than attempting to connect cold. Overall, Marketo was a crucial part of our sales processes and truly assisted in your achievements as an organization. I would highly recommend.

Cons: We only encountered some occasional problems when uploading smart lists. This would sometimes take quite a long time when Marketo was running updates or changes, that would slow the system.

Recommendations to other buyers: I think it is important to take a look at your priorities in a solution and what goals you need assistance in achieving. At that point you can decide on what platform will be best for your organization. There are many solutions on the market, all doing very similar things.

Pros: Easy to track different engagement programs at every stage across multiple steps.

Robust criteria for building lead nurturing.

Like their lead scoring feature - great way to segment leads based on how they interact with you.

Their real-time personalization feature is impressive. Great feature once it's configured correctly.

Cons: The email builder is pretty basic.

Leveraging the full capabilities requires a full-time internal resource.

Steep learning curve. We needed to invest in a Marketo specialist to help with integration.

Marketo is super expensive & that's before taking the extra cost of hiring a Marketo Specialist to help with implementation.

Overall: When going through the demos & getting pricing from the Sales team make sure to fully understand their pricing. They've changed their pricing model in the past 18 months to be more a la carte so some features you may really like are additional costs. Depending on the size of your database this can start to really add up.

Marketo is not suitable for small marketing teams as it requires a ton of set up time & ongoing work to fully leverage its capabilities.

Pros: A huge plus in Marketo's work is that it can easily interact with other professional tools that we need to work with. In particular, we actively use SalesForce, and Marketo does an excellent job with its tasks along with this service. With this product and its efficient work, we can be confident in the stability of our business. And this is the most important thing in the work of any company.

Cons: This service seems quite simple, but in fact, Marketo is not very intuitive and for the user is quite difficult to understand the functions at first. Some elements are not logical, which forces the user to simply memorize the sequence of actions, because otherwise, he has to spend a lot of time figuring out what to do. Thus, Marketo is not always a practical service. It requires some time so that the user can adapt to the peculiarities of the work of this tool.

Pros: Once optimized, Marketo is good for rapid-fire content creation (emails, landing pages, and campaigns) that is tailored and optimized for digital marketing experiences. It can collect a broad range of data out-of-the-box which provides significant advantages compared to competitors.

Cons: Marketo's ability to scale, technically, can be a limiting factor at times. The major dependencies are lead database size, web traffic volume, and integration with the CRM. At the point of 750k+ leads, Marketo becomes slow to work with. At the point of 10k page visits/day, queues start to pop up on logging web activity. When lots of leads are begin updated in Marketo and through the CRM, the back-and-forth usage of API calls (by which Marketo communicates with CRMs) starts to max out, and you have to really optimize the setup in order to have timely communication between Marketo and the CRM.

Recommendations to other buyers: If you've invested enough in your marketing automation platform, migrating to a new platform becomes a nearly-impossible task. You'll lost an enormous amount of information in your migration-you can basically plan to lose everything except for your lead database when you're looking to migrate. Marketing automation platforms in general are a very sticky product. If you were planning on changing marketing automation platforms, you should do so as quickly as possible before you're heavily invested in one specific platform.

Comments: The Marketo community is great and one of the highlights of working with this software. The support is robust and effective. While the aesthetic aspects of the forms, landing pages, and emails leaves something to be desired, it is more than made up for in overall functionality.

Pros: We have a really small marketing team, but we are able to create quality, complex nurture streams easily with Marketo. It also gives us valuable insight into who is engaging with our website and our emails. We couldn't imagine running our marketing with anything else.

Cons: While the functional aspects of Marketo are great, they are lacking in some areas like form design and ease of use for designing emails and landing pages. They have tried to improve all three but continue to fall short compared to other tools. You will have to have someone who knows how to do some basic coding if you want to go beyond their most basic templates.

Comments: I am in the non-profit space, which generally has too few staff trying to do too many things. When used properly, Marketo increases our capabilities beyond what any of us alone could accomplish through a typical email-blast service. That being said, it takes discipline, time, and maybe even a dedicated personnel resource (internal or external) to get it up and running where it begin to really serve your organization's needs.

Pros: - Options for Customization of Automation Campaigns and Landing Pages - Extensive Analytical Tools - "The Sky's the Limit" on how much your marketing team can do with this tool

Cons: - The Email Editor is difficult to use, in my opinion. But if you are comfortable with writing HTML code, you can bypass the drag-and-drop editor. Also, it may not be any more difficult than any other option (I don't have a wide exposure to email builders). - The learning curve on the whole is steep. If you don't have a dedicated marketing staff person, you may be frustrated by how much time you need to set aside to learn how to use the various tools. But their documentation resources and training tools are very helpful. - You have to pay extra for full-service tech support.

Comments: Marketo is by far the best MA tool on the market. I have used many. If you are looking at bringing an MA platform in house, do yourself a favor and go with Marketo.

Pros: I have been in the MA space for over 5 years. This is the BEST tool on the market. The best thing about is its relative ease of use. Yes, mastering it and making the most of it takes time. But the bottom line is anyone can learn Marketo, and all it takes is time. Other tools require technical knowledge outside of the platform (such as coding, scripting, SQL). But to use Marketo, you don't need any outside technical skill -- just a commitment to learning Marketo. It has an incredible user-friendly interface, integrates easily with other tools, and really adds to internal marketing's tool set.

Pros: I like the wide range of reports and data that are available. Everything from email performance to program ROI to opportunity insights are available through Marketo's Analytics software. I use it most often to look at email deliverability and program membership. There are a lot of different ways you can break down email sends and being able to look at everything from subject line interaction by job category to program ROI by attendance status is very useful in determining campaign effectiveness.

Cons: There's kind of a learning curve and a lot of different views and reports to get accustomed to, but once you spend some time in each of the reports it gets pretty easy to anticipate what you'll need to answer any given question you may get. There is some overlap between Marketo Analytics and what our department pulls from Salesforce, but there is still a lot of use in Marketo Analytics data.

Pros: Marketo has robust lead scoring and lifecycle management solutions. Lead scoring can be tokenized to create efficient and scalable.models. Triggered MQL and Sales Alert Emails enable Sales to follow up with highly qualified leads. Engagement programs that allow you to easily nurture leads through the customer journey. Segment your audience and send dynamic content that is personalized to each segmentation Smart list logic and campaigns allow for many different types of triggered campaigns

Cons: Some minor UX improvements: Be able to view a subject line without opening the email. Improve Text version editor - Even MailChimp's is superior. Create stronger de-duplication technology native to the platform.

Pros: The interface mimics other day-to-day programs such as emails or file folders. So that makes it relatively easy to organize your campaigns and find them again. And there is a lot of flexibility built in once you get started. You can move campaigns around, bring in other pieces, clone items, upload relatively easily, etc. I also really like the auto-save feature.

Cons: When a process flow is broken, there are no hints or indications as to why. On a few occasions the program has given me error messages (the good old band-aid on the screen) for reasons I'm not ever able to figure out. While they do offer some basic training for new users, anything beyond that is a charge. And my experience with the community responses hasn't been great. When you have a very specific and detailed program, it's tough for other people to be able to understand where you're stuck. So often times the answers people provide are not enough to help me get un-stuck.

Overall: The Marketo consultant we engaged with (paid) was great. They have very knowledgeable team members on the staff.

Pros: Marketo has an unbelievable amount of functionality that allows us to manage our leads and easily automate and track success of all our marketing campaigns. We have been able to add more levels of tracking and logic to our campaigns than we were able to do with our previous marketing automation tool. There is probably so much that I haven't yet discovered but am looking forward to finding out as I continue to use the tool more. The customer support and user support portal have been very helpful for us in finding solutions to our challenges, as there is so much functionality and sometimes so many ways to do 1 task that it's helpful to get advice on which is the best way to do it. I'd highly recommend Marketo!

Cons: Because there is so much functionality (atleast compared to the automation tool we used to use), there was a steep learning curve for our team but the customer support was really helpful in getting us over this curve.

Pros: This is a great tool to have to track the digital footprints of a prospect. When they go to your web site you see ever click and with analytics it gives you a great snap shot of perspective buyers and persona

Cons: I cant say I disliked anything. I wish the web and social came together in a one package maybe because the 2 tools together are powerful. The Marketo Social gives a snapshot of what perspective buyers are saying about you on social media and with advanced analytics its a powerful tool

Overall: This gives you insight into what prospects are interested in and gives your warm leads because when you contact the prospect you already know what is important to them based on the digital foot print they left

Pros: Within our company, we used Marketo for campaign execution, lead collection and management, and creating reports. While it took us some time to set it up, between planning, configuration, once all of that was done, and we finished the onboarding programme to our marketeers and stakeholders (around 3 months from day 1 to the final onboarding). Marketo had become part of the spine of our operations. Did I mention the very active and friendly online community? They are what made us fall in love with the tool in the first place!

Cons: It took our marketing team (especially the junior staff) some time to learn it and even more time for our non-marketing stakeholders. Some features like the overall activity of all the leads are still not implemented directly, the community helped us figure out ways around missing features and what other software we could use to compliment Marketo, which kind off made up for it.

Pros: Marketo..where do we begin? I started using Marketo two organizations ago and at this point I wouldn't even consider working for an organization that isn't using Marketo. Everything from lead entry, lead validation, lead assignment, nurturing, email communication, landing pages, forms, personalization. At this point it has gotten so big that we have a team using it and we need to enforce best practices.

Cons: You get out of it what you put in. You can run your entire business on it but you need to ensure you are using best practices - if you let inexperienced people behind the wheel, it will turn into a huge mess.

Comments: Measuring movement and success through specific programs is very helpful. On a very basic level, looking at acquisition program and a lead source is very helpful. We have been able to develop much better reporting for our executives and show them ROI from the Marketing team. From an operational standpoint, the organization is so much better than it has been in the past. It's easy to know where to pull data from and things can get done much quicker with templates.

Pros: Everything can be organized the way that works for our team. There are very few limits to the way we can set up programs and we are able to customize fields, analytics, etc to tell us whatever it is we need to know. We've used other systems (like HubSpot) and they are not nearly as flexible. I also LOVE the Marketo Community. We've learned a lot from our peers in different discussions.

Cons: Sometimes there are too many options and not enough guidance on best practices. Marketo has documentation on different products, but they don't tell me WHY I might want to use a specific feature, just how I would go about doing so.

Recommendations to other buyers: Utilize Community and Marketo Product Docs. Don't stop asking questions as there are always other people who are either struggling with the same challenges or have a solution for your challenge. Also, take the time to mess around and learn the product. It does take time, but you will greatly benefit from playing around with the different program types, naming conventions, workflows, etc.

Comments: With Marketo you have a Marketing Automation Suite is great to create straight forward lead capturing campaigns but also sophisticated marketing campaigns with dynamic content and multi-dimensional campaigns. It is a full Marketing Platform with a lot of features to save time and crate successful campaigns. It works fine with Salesforce CMR and SAP C4C (Cloud)

Pros: Customer Support and Training. Never had such a professional, but also demanding introduction. But they know, why they are doing it. The Platforms possibilities are huge and will provide the success you need to afford it. Almost everything is possible. Each step of a campaign can be adjusted. You can create your own reports at any stage in the campaign. To copy a whole campaign, including landing pages, flows and all e-mails take just a few clicks. But what is really impressive; to adjust the copied campaign to it's new date, location a.o. it's another click and you are up and running.

Cons: If it is your first Marketing Automation Software, go and hire a consultant. It is hard to get into the system, if this topic is new for you. There are a few decision you have to take (structure) in an early stage that will cause more work if there are wrong or just missed. Also because of its flexibility it is hard to understand and at it first few rather complex than logical. You definitely need do invest time to get it up and running.

Comments: I've used Marketo and the other two large marketing automation tools over the last 7 years. All the platforms are valuable, but where Marketo really stands above the rest is in its rich feature sets and ease-of-use. It also has a fabulous user community, the best that I've seen of any software solution. The very active and helpful user community even rivals that of Salesforce CRM, and S CRM has a LOT more users in their community. I do a fair amount of side consulting, and whenever I'm making recommendations for marketing automation software I first recommend Marketo.

Pros: 1. Super feature rich. 2. Very scalable - I can clone and launch new programs, webinars, nurturing drip campaigns, etc. very quickly. 3. Best user community around.

Cons: While the user community is an excellent resource for finding solutions to problems you may run into, I don't feel like their support is as fabulous as the rest of the solution. While support is good, it's not amazing - and amazing is something I've come to expect from Marketo.

Recommendations to other buyers: Shop around and find the solution that best fits your needs, but also don't be swayed into getting a really cheap solution, because you get what you pay for and it won't be able to scale up with your company's growth. Marketo can. At my current employer, we were using one of the other leading marketing automation solutions and had to upgrade to Marketo. Implementing Marketo is not bad, but it still requires a fair amount of setup and work, so I'd recommend going with the right solution the first time.

Comments: I have use Marketo for just about 4 years. I have found success in implementing new strategies through Marketo and increasing MQLs, SQLs, and customers because of it. Marketo will definitely be able to adapt to a dynamic company.

Pros: Marketo is easy to use and can be as custom and complicated as you need it to be. They have an extensive community that gives endless advice and will answer any questions you have. It is perfect for any sized company that is looking to grow and optimize their marketing operations.

Cons: I would like to see a little more from the analytics and SEO, but I believe the new UI will be enhancing these areas of the product.

Pros: I love how powerful Marketo is! If you have the time and manpower to run creative, thoughtful campaigns and automation, you'll be a marketing rockstar and your sales team will be closing leads all day! The Salesforce sync is fantastic, as well as additional plugins and integrations that you couldn't even dream up yourself. Seems like they've thought of everything.

Cons: It requires quite a bit of manpower and effort to be able to use Marketo to its fullest potential. A small marketing team could struggle with new ideas, troubleshooting, and having the time to fully analyze the product's ROI.

Comments: It's as much a powerful resource for sales as it is for marketing in an integrative approach so I'd involve key stakeholders from sales in evaluating. The online demos are worth reviewing.

Pros: In today's fast paced, multi-channel environment where the abundance of information people receive in any given day exceeds the ability to process it all, I can't imagine running any kind of digital business without marketing automation. Marketo's offering is intuitive, integrates well with another cloud-based email, CRM, social, etc and has inherent capabilities to leverage best processes throughout an entire marketing/ sales lifecycle. I have only demo'd the product, used as a user, and been trained on, but have evaluated for a start-up where I would consider it essential for those embarking on digital campaigns to drive multi-channel sales.

Cons: I have not been involved in a full implementation, roll-out, and integration as a purchaser (only in business development), so I can't speak to that or any long term outcomes from initiatives, although the value is quite clear.

Pros: For email automation, Marketo is a very robust platform. For creating engagement programs and smart campaigns, I have never had any limitations from Marketo. If it can't be done via the GUI, you can script it using Velocity. The Marketo community is very helpful and you can typically get answers for almost anything there.

Cons: The landing page and email builder needs to be better. I find myself spending a lot of time in html even when I use the packaged templates for emails. A true drag and drop email editor would make building emails much easier.

Comments: Pretty decent CRM software with a few time wasting features. I'd like to see more product updates.

Pros: I've been using Marketo for 5+ years now. It's really easy to navigate, manage leads, create campaigns, and get basic reporting.

Cons: it can sometimes take upwards of an hour for the system to process leads and send an email to a larger sized list. Email reporting could be better. There have been several outages in the last year where everyone was unable to login to the system, all site forms were down, and anyone with emails scheduled to go out during the outage were pretty much helpless.

Pros: The interface is really easy to use. It also can accomplish A LOT - nurture, email, lead scoring, landing page and form creation, reporting. This is a great one-stop-shop when you're getting into marketing automation.

Cons: Our database made the program slow. Most of the time I felt like I was working faster than the application. Additionally, it's a REALLY powerful tool, which can be overlooked with the ease of use. Make sure that whoever is in the system has the correct permissions and is properly trained.

Overall: Increased demand generation and marketing-driven pipe.

Pros: The easy of use. The platform is easy to navigate and you can send out beautiful emails whether you have no coding knowledge or you're a pro. With several templates to choose from there is certainly something for everyone. The community of users they have built is also quite impressive. Not only does customer support respond expectionally fast, but there is always someone in community to help with troubleshooting.

Cons: I wish it was easier to modify templates without the need to dive into the HTML. If there was a base of modules that you could select, drag and drop in, that would be truly amazing.

Overall: I got time back. This software made my job so much easier and I could spend more time focusing on other aspects of my role.

Pros: With an easy to use interface, and a great onboarding program, we were able to get up and running with Marketo pretty quickly. It only took about 6 weeks before we were ready to run our first campaign, which completely changed how we followed up with event leads. It has a great integration with Salesforce. Setting up web forms, landing pages, nurturing streams, and managing data is all really easy. Marketo's community and resources are also a huge plus.

Cons: We only have the Spark package, so there's a lot to be desired with analytics and some of the other features we're missing out on.

Recommendations to other buyers: You definitely need to be thorough in understanding what features you're getting in your package. Marketo has a ton of valuable content, but a lot of their webinars tend to point to a solution that you might not have. The main thing for us has been breaking up the implementation into phases. We signed on with Marketo while having only one marketing person, and it was important to identify what we could do initially, get those successes under our belt, and then keep learning. Getting something flexible that allows us to keep improving was key, and Marketo and their community was the right choice for us.

Comments: I can't express how much easier Marketo makes my life. I am the events manager at my company, and I use Marketo's lead management functionality to send out my invitations, set up my registration pages and manage my attendee lists. Marketo was great before - but now, with the new Programs & Events release, it is AMAZING! We have a small marketing department, so I am responsible for every aspect of an event, from start to finish and beyond with our follow-up program. From roadshows, trade shows, and dinners to parties, dinners, and meet-up groups - you name it, I handle it though Marketo. I love being able to tie all my assets together under an event, and being able to clone an entire event saves time and allows me to focus on other aspects of the event. It also helps me easily track my cost-per-lead and figure out which events are driving the most leads and helping us close the most deals. With 15 different events planned over the next four months, in cities all across the world, I am going to be on the road a ton. It's key for me to be able to set everything up in advance and know that it will just GO when it needs to. Furthermore, being able to check on it from anywhere in the world with the touch of a button brings me huge peace of mind. After the event, our programs manager can funnel our leads through our nurturing program until they are ready to be engaged. Our sales team loves this because they can focus on working with an opportunity, not looking for one. I can't rave enough about their support. The community helps me solve so many different "How do I do this?" questions. When I have best practice questions, I can reach out to other Marketo users for guidance. On the rare occasions we have had to contact support for a technical issue, they get back to us ASAP - even for small concerns. In summary, Marketo is the best!

Pros: Marketo has helped our entire team to keep all our subscribers in one place and it's very easy to manage the customer's email preferences just with a click. Marketo is one of the easiest tools we've used to keep track of our distribution centers, and we definitely save a lot of time just by searching a customer's name or email address.

Cons: Marketo is sometimes too slow when downloading a list of subscribers. Since Marketo keeps around 10,000 of our user,s it's acceptable that sometimes it becomes kind of slow.

Overall: The most important benefit of using Marketo is that we keep all of our users in one place and that helps all of our teammates to work in an organized way and avoid wasting time.

Comments: As someone who works in sales operations, I was always intrigued with what happens to a lead outside of the normal sales cycle. I was able to get approval for training for Marketo and with my knowledge in Salesforce (admin certified), bridging the gap between both systems have been a game changer for our organization. I have really been able to take advantage of how a lead is marketed and nurtured to, so that when the lead is ready to engage with sales, they are a bit more qualified, making sales conversations easier and faster. We've implemented lead scoring, different nurture programs, drip campaigns, automated lead routing based on assigned quota, properly tagged leads based on what channel they've come from...I could go on and on. I love Marketo and I love what it can do alongside Salesforce.

Pros: The Marketo widget in Salesforce is great. It lets a seller know exactly what pages they visited on your website, which emails they opened, what they've downloaded, including dates and timestamps. This REALLY helps a seller prepare for an initial call and sets them up for success. Marketo's integration with Salesforce is great and because I was already Salesforce certified, it was pretty easy for me to learn Marketo.

Cons: It can be a bit slow to do some stuff in Marketo, it's not as fast as Salesforce.

Pros: You can do almost anything you want. You can easily do the basics or you can build very intricate fine-tuned campaigns to support all your needs. Other platforms may be easier to do smaller things, but can't scale the way Marketo can. Content recommendation per unique user is changing the game of integrating with websites.

Cons: Reporting and analytics can sometimes be a bear -- but they've made strides to improve this already, and more to come.

Pros: Marketo is a complex lead generation software but if configured correctly it can do magic and automate your marketing like no other. Since using Marketo we experienced increase in sales revenues and 50% increase in lead conversion. Marketo also nicely integrates with Salesforce and you can see where your leads are in their lifecycle.

Cons: There is a learning curve to it. Also getting certified in Marketo has more complex than before. Lead nurturing, streams, and center of excellence can be hard to set up.

Overall: Improved my lead nurturing activities. I no longer use spreadsheets to track leads. Marketo nicely logs all activities.

Pros: Marketo has a lot of companies that partner with them. They are a great company for Enterprise businesses.

Cons: All Marketing Automation tools are growing and have their own pros and cons. There are also some latency issues on the data processing side that gives us issues when we're bulk updating records or sending a large amount of emails.

Pros: Allows the seamless integration of sales and marketing processes from campaign strategy, creation of demand generated marketing campaigns, leads, and the entire sales process. It takes a more strategic approach to targeting prospects with better precision, overall internal organizational alignment, and integrated processes. It allows internal teams to collaborate more effectively, reduces time spent on more administrative task by automating the burdensome up-front tasks, and allows sales and marketing to focus on more strategic objectives - higher quality interactions with the customers, partners, etc. I can't imagine sales/marketing organizations today not leveraging demand-generation and the kinds of SaaS automation that Marketo offers.

Cons: Working with the solution in an existing organization and in demo for a start-up, we have never actually deployed it, so I can't speak to ease of integration. Not a con - just of note.

Pros: Super flexible in what you can accomplish

Cons: Clunky, un-intuitive

Overall: I used Marketo as a lead generation manager at the first startup (15 person company) I worked at. I was the primary tool evaluator, and chose it over Pardot and Hubspot, because our focus was on outbound emailing (Hubspot is not) and we needed a high level of customizability/flexibility (2 years ago I found that Pardot was not flexible enough). Marketo has its own language and way of doing things. It really required a full training to get up and running, but once I did that I found it straightforward to use. The interface is clunky and not beautiful, but the functionality is really high. The highest risk with using Marketo is not keeping careful track of potentially conflicting programs. Staying organized and consistent is REALLY important. Overall, I like it and everything it could do, but similar to other "older" SaaS tools, I really wish they would overhaul their interface/UX to make it more streamlined and modern.

Pros: Marketo is a very easy to use platform. With no prior marketing automation experience, I was able to master the functionality of the product by reading the documentation and reaching out to the members of the Marketo community. The level of customization you can build into Marketo allows me to scale the marketing efforts of our team from a systems standpoint, whether it be workflows (smart campaigns), building email and landing page assets, or integrating with other Launchpoint vendors or the Marketo API, I am able to use Marketo to implement scalable solutions to my company's automation needs.

Cons: The integration with SFDC Custom Objects is great, but not complete in my opinion. For companies that use a lot of Salesforce custom objects and want to utilize the data on those objects for marketing campaigns, expect to need some assistance if you aren't a developer. The Analytics section of Marketo (not speaking to RCE here) is very much "out of the box" reporting that doesn't allow for too much customization. Typically, I have to pull reports into Excel for further analysis. This is why it's extremely important for first-time Marketo customers to set up a proper naming convention to make reporting a bit easier in Marketo and for circumstances when you need to pull data into Excel.

Recommendations to other buyers: Marketo is the best fit for companies that are looking to scale their automation efforts and/or have a large database. However, if you are a company that utilizes SFDC Custom Objects heavily, be prepared to budget development time.

Comments: I've used Marketo for almost 4 years now and seen it grow and added some great features for some of the "non-technical marketers" so to reduce the need for IT. Whenever I had a question or issue, a great place to start is the Marketo Community and if I still can't find the answer, Marketo support is fast and pleasant.

Pros: The functionality is easy to understand because of the many years of use and being Marketo certified. Marketo community and support is a great resource.

Cons: I've seen nurture tracks such as Pardot's that look better and seem easier to understand. Marketo's nurture operates in programs and flows but hard to follow and test. I usually would need to run it by Marketo support before launching a nurture track just to make sure it's working. If your contract is up, they will disappear or wait until the very last minute to pressure you into renewal. They also say they won't shut off service without notice, but they will - probably another tactic to get you to renew your contract, especially when all your forms and leaf pages disappear since they all live in Marketo.

Recommendations to other buyers: Great product for enterprise. Be careful when it's time to renew your contract.

Pros: It's intuitive, easy to navigate, and the release/feature updates are generally exciting and impactful. Cons: It's difficult to find something I don't like when Marketo has delivered time and time again. When I do have something I don't like it typically is fixed or enhanced in future releases.

Recommendations to other buyers: Talking to existing users/customers can be helpful. Also having a basic marketing/sales lead process/framework already documented helps push the evaluation in the right direction.

Pros: The community is top notch with no end to advice and help as well as industry best practice education. With the product itself, I am not sure how we operated without it. While there is an initial learning curve, the ease in which one can create campaigns, clone templates/campaigns, generate complex functionality in simple smart list/flow methodology (think: if this then that) all make this an industry leading product.

Cons: There is a bit of a learning curve. It would be nice to have something akin to Litmus built into the product (there is something similar but not as robust nor as easy to use).

Recommendations to other buyers: Do not compare this to something like Mail Chimp or Constant Contact. This is not just a tool to send out emails. You can really help automate data cleansing (to a point) and other heavy lifting functionality with this.

Comments: After a multi-month search for a new marketing automation solution, our team settled on three finalists: Marketo, IBM/SilverPop and Adobe Campaign. While all three platforms provided excellent high-end functionality, we ultimately went with Marketo due to the perceived ease of use and out-of-the-box functionality. We were not disappointed.

Pros: Our team was able to get Marketo up and running in 15 days to send emails. This is NOT a standard timeframe, and we have a dedicated and very motivated team. Service and training to date have been excellent.

Cons: If you have a many-many database, think carefully and have good internal conversations before selecting Marketo. We moved from ExactTarget to Marketo, and discovered multiple challenges with our data structure during and after implementation. Long-term, we expect this to be solved with the implementation of a new CRM solution, but it has caused some short-term growing pains.

Recommendations to other buyers: Definitely, go for the on-site training if you can afford it. Having someone available to physically walk your teams through the new processes allowed users to get up to speed much more quickly and have more confidence in a short span of time.

Pros: Marketo's integration with SFDC is completely seamless and unbelievably helpful in our daily work! Also the customization that is available is great. We create templates with tokens that allow us to easily clone & make changes to get our campaigns out the door faster and to keep our brand standards across each campaign.

Cons: There are a few hiccups with reporting. I cannot easily give my CMO a dashboard that allows for drill downs to details. The numbers are fantastic and give us a great view into our work, but when we want to drill down on the fly, it is cumbersome.

Recommendations to other buyers: Think about what you are integrating when you are selecting a product. The integration with a CRM is key when using a marketing automation software and Marketo's integration works great! We can see a view from anonymous website visitor all the way to sold opportunity!

Comments: Marketo was the clear winner when first looking at marketing automation solutions. The robust software certainly met our needs at the time, but also offered features we were very new too. This allowed us to evolve our marketing processes and streamline certain aspects of it. Marketo will take a few months to learn the basics, and even then you will find yourself learning new things even years later. With the valuable resources Marketo offers, they set you up for success.

Pros: - Customize-able. You can certainly find a way to accomplish any marketing task. - The Community is a tremendous resource to learn and Certification is available to validate your proficiency.

Cons: - Support can take a few days to resolve issues. - Navigation and accessibility can be a bit earlier, (ex. cannot run "Lead Actions" from smart campaign's results tab, program's member's tab, or Lead Details page)

Recommendations to other buyers: - Get Sales involved in the lead scoring process so you can collaborate on what constitutes the warmest leads to send to them. - Set aside adequate time for the implementation. Be prepared to spend several hours a day learning the solution. There is a steep learning curve with Marketo, but that is because it is unlike other solutions.

Comments: I've used Pardot, Hubspot and Marketo - it's by far my top of the three.

Pros: Scalability, flexibility. Unlike many other platforms, Marketo truly can scale at a high pace when built out well. And if you're a confident user, it doesn't hide the complicated features behind a wall of impossible to breach "user friendly" interface - you can get into the weeds and play around and really customise things.

Cons: It's not the simplest, and can be quite tricky for newer/more novice users. But this can be overcome quickly with training.

Pros: Marketo is probably the most robust marketing automation solution on the market. They have native solutions for many things that you might want to do from personalization to email deliverability, and if they don't have a native solution then there is a Launchpoint partner with an integrated solution that you can add-on.

Cons: There are definite shortcomings in some of their paid add-ons, and if you're spending extra money you might benefit from looking at another partner that specializes in what you want to add on.

Recommendations to other buyers: It's very hard to ask all of the questions at the beginning. You will always have more questions if this will be the right solution for you. Marketo is good about listening to their customers if shortcomings are found, and trying to find solutions to make the product better for users if there is a real limitation.

Pros: Marketo's scoring system has helped our sales team increase their close rate by 30% by helping them focus on top quality leads. Targeting our ideal leads used to be a headache, now it's fun and exciting. I really can't say enough about this technology.

Cons: You have to learn how to score your lead acquisition funnels and what actions are important, but you will learn as you go and they have great support to help you along the way.

Overall: Lead scoring is second to none. Helps us identify top quality leads based on actions, not assumptions.

Pros: This is a super powerful and valuable tool. The amount of detail you can collect on your marketing contacts is amazing. You can then take that information and tailor numerous amounts of outreach and communication in a very personalized way. I love this software and after using other comparable ones, think that it is the best around.

Cons: There is a significant learning curve with this. Unlike other similar softwares, this is not as user friendly. That being said, once trained, it is easy to navigate.

Comments: This is a reliable tool.

Pros: It does its job as a B2B marketing platform. The best thing about this software is its integration to SalesForce which makes tracking easier.

Pros: The foundation of what Marketo is built on are these awesome things called Programs and Smart Campaigns. Marketo's ability to provide an almost endless realm of automation based on smart campaigns is pretty outstanding. The different programs offered as well are pretty great for flexibility and making the right marketing messaging.

Cons: One thing that I immediately noticed is the user interface and user experience. The overall look and feel seems very dated. Once you see the power and potential of Marketo, you have a different feeling (maybe not so negative) about the UI/UX, but overall not a great look for the platform.

Comments: One thing that is appreciated is they are continuing to build the platform, especially working on integrations and new features. Seems to be a solid company, and I would have confidence recommending this product to anyone assuming they match functional needs accurately.

Pros: It can handle a good volume of data and multiple campaigns, and provides the functionality we needed. Specifically like the Salesforce integration, although I've heard it is slower integrating with other platforms..

Cons: A little lax on reporting and metrics, we had to purchase additional software for some analysis. It also "feels" a bit heavy from a price standpoint compared to some lesser known platforms, but I haven't done a true side-by-side comparison.

Comments: Marketo might be a very powerful software once installed and running, but if you plan on using Marketo without Marketo Landing Pages then you better have someone experienced in Web Development on call, because chances are you are going to need them. Depending on your ability to edit JavaScript and your understanding of the hierarchy of your site and the site structure, you might be able to accomplish this without any assistance. Unfortunately Marketo Support is not very helpful in this types of situations, since they do not Support people using Marketo Forms on non Marketo pages (probably something that should be better explained during the Sales process); and they will suggest hiring a Web Developer (which is the most frustrating) or looking at the User Community. The User Community is great if the problem you have is something someone else has experienced, and they decided to post their experience within the User Community. I am sure over time having a User Community will actually be a strength of Marketo, but can you imagine the early days when there was no other posts? In a few years, I see the User Community being a great asset and something very helpful to users - especially younger ones who are accustomed to receiving immediate answers to their questions by simply clicking Search or Submit. Honestly, if I do not have to call support I never would. Finding an answer online is great because you not only find what your looking for but hopefully people have also posted in comments their individual experiences/road blocks/challenges/etc. Time will tell.

Pros: - Forms: we are using Marketo forms and we embedded them on our website. - Lead gen: it is easier to engage visitors on our website and manage the entire lead generation process. - Programs: it is easy to create and manage programs.

Cons: - Support: sometimes we had some issues with getting quick replies from support. - Landing pages: it is missing a validation workflow on the thank you pages (to be sure that those who will access the thank you page have successfully filled-out the form included in the landing page). - WebEx integration: it is not possible to integrate WebEx webinars with a Marketo Form integrated on an external website (to take advantage of this integration it is required to use a Marketo Landing page).

Recommendations to other buyers: It is a good tool to automate and improve Marketing activities but you will have to work a lot to customize the system. So you will need a good team, time to dedicate and enough budget to invest.

Pros: Marketo offers large amounts of control and also large amounts of integration opportunities (which makes this well-suited to a company that focuses on or uses lots of technology); its pricing and features make it well-suited for mid-level companies. Additionally, setup is both quick and easy and has a community to help make the transition even more effortless.

Cons: Marketo is generally expensive and also requires the aforementioned integrations to work effectively, which adds to this cost. Additionally, analytics are limited and some parts of the interface are strangely unintuitive compared to the rest.

Pros: Marketo is easy to use, quick to setup and an all around amazing tool. It does everything my company needs. The interface is very easy to use even when setting up complex programs. There is a logic to how you go about things that follow the flow of most campaign design processes while helping ensure that you are covering all aspects of the campaign needed.

Cons: There is a bit of a learning curve for users as well as administrators. There are plenty of resources online to help but one should not expect to load Marketo into your process and immediately log in and start building out complex programs.

Pros: Freedom! In a single world I didn't find anything I couldn't do. I might need a developer to help make a few tweaks but the system allows you to do ANYTHING. And because it has an open API you can connect it to basically any tool you want to use.

Cons: I got tired of having to always find a way to make it work with our tools. We had several home grown systems and connecting all the dots was really frustrating. But thats more our problem than a problem with Marketo

Cons: The analytics leave something to be desired. Simple reports are good, but with complex reporting you need RCA, which isn't very user friendly. I end up doing a lot of reporting in Salesforce, but I am excited that Marketo has more robust reporting coming down the pipeline.

Recommendations to other buyers: Take the time to plan and think of what you want your system to look like before you jump in. So many things are built off each other that once you start molding your instance, it's hard to totally backtrack. Also, timestamp everything. You will be glad you did.

Pros: Ease of use is KEY! It's really easy to teach someone else how to create a new program, email, smart campaign, etc. I also appreciate how easy it is to sync programs to SFDC.

Cons: I wish there were sub/child-programs. I also am continually disappointed by their out of the box reporting. It's really elementary. If you want to do anything other than see email performance you need to add their reporting module - which is only available if you're on the correct product tier. Extremely frustrating.

Recommendations to other buyers: Really get into the reporting. Is it going to be what you need long term? Come up with complicated (real life) examples of things you want to be able to accomplish with marketing automation and make the team walk you through exactly how you could accomplish those things (from beginning to end, with reporting) before making a decision. Go through the same scenarios with each vendor you're evaluating.

Pros: Marketo is designed to manage all of the content for your business, including email marketing, blog posts, lead gen pages, and more. It is very powerful with our marketing team only using less than half of the available features. Excellent integration with Salesforce allows for tight coordination with sales team.

Cons: Poor UI definitely reduces uptake within our company. Basically only the users who have gone through a multi-day on-site training course are able to use Marketo proficiently, and almost no one has been able to learn from google/support docs. While it is powerful, the UI is a problem. Also limited management of social media accounts.

Recommendations to other buyers: Ask yourself if your company really needs the power of Marketo or if it can make do with a much easier to use, but less feature-rich alternative like Hubspot.

Pros: It does the same thing as pardot

Cons: ease of use is not there.

Overall: Marketo is not easy to use and usually requires an expensive contractor to come up with the nurturing campaign design.

Recommendations to other buyers: ease of use is not there, not graphical interface like Pardot to design campaign nurturing.

Comments: I've used Marketo both as a brand side manager and as a consultant on the agency side. It is incredibly powerful and can be used in almost any business environment. From traditional b2b to education to publishing. It can be the central part of any martech stack if leveraged appropriately with enough supporting knowledge. No other MA platform will match the SFDC integration (yes, including SFMC) which makes it a no-brainer for any SFDC customer truly investing in MA. The partner community is vast with integrations to do almost anything you need. And, of course, the marketing piece is insanely customizable to the customer journey.

Pros: - the flexibility - the powerful - integrations - reporting capabilities

Cons: - speed - complexity (also a major pro) - time to train

Recommendations to other buyers: Make sure you have a knowledgeable team led by an MCC (not MCE, and actual consultant) or hire an agency to do your implementation. Don't hire Marketo Professional Services, their approach is too cookie cutter. Get connected with one of their implementation partners (LeadMD, Fathom Marketing, or Elixiter).

Pros: Marketo is a great platform and allows for a lot of flexibility and functionality. I love their online community and the tool itself is very powerful. It can be manipulated in many ways to make a wide variety of marketing campaigns work. We've improved our email marketing immensely with Marketo.

Cons: If you're a new company becoming acquainted with Marketo, it can be a HUGE undertaking and there's definitely a learning curve. Luckily they have a helpful online community and trainings.

Overall: We've been able to take advantage of lead scoring and sales insight tools to help our sales teams based on customer activities. Marketo has allowed us to automate our day-to-day communications with our sales force and respond quickly to our prospects.

Pros: Easy to use! Marketo is a one-stop-shop for Marketing Automation, SEO, and RTP. Not only that - but their Marketo University gives users an opportunity to continue personal and professional growth. It's been great learning, growing, and having fun with Marketo.

Cons: When speaking with Marketo regarding upgrading our current subscription and adding different Marketo services, I felt like I was buying a car from a used car dealership. The prices were always "buy now" prices, but changed based on my answers. Trying to create a new 2016 budget with an upgrade price that changes almost daily is annoying!

Recommendations to other buyers: For email campaigns and set-up, you need a software that is easy to use. I think that's why Marketo has been so succesful. It is very easy to navigate and stay organized - which is key in Marketing.

Pros: Marketo gives me all the tools I need to create and measure marketing campaigns in a way that truly impacts our business. From email to social, web tracking to sales enablement, Marketo is chock full of tools that we use daily, and even plenty that we don't.

Cons: Marketo really is meant to be used by a power-user. It takes a lot of exposure and practice to get good at navigating the tools and customizing each action to your specifications

Recommendations to other buyers: Know whether your business i looking for something powerful and complete, or something lightweight and easy for beginners to use. Marketo is definitely the former and certainly not the latter.

Pros: I greatly appreciate the features (analytical, operational, functional) of Marketo Marketing Automation Software. It is so helpful for streamlining our internal marketing/communications workflows at my non-profit organization for which I am the Director of Advancement/Admissions. I also love the Marketo Nation community forum and product documentation. Very good.

Cons: I'm not too fond of having to pay a lot extra for live support, considering how expensive the tool is to begin with.

Surpassed all expectations!

Pros: Breadth and depth of offering. Can not be touched for it's flexibility and it's Ecosystem of software partners that enables you to integrate and add-on pretty much anything you could think of and more! It's for marketers, by marketers.

Cons: Your instances can get very complex, but I don't think this is any different to any other platform in this respect.

Recommendations to other buyers: Try to evaluate different vendor demos. You'll soon see if you engage properly with your specific business needs where Marketo will be able to flex to your needs as time progresses - whereas with other providers you can often reach the end of their capabilities within a short time frame.

Comments: Our team has been using Marketo, since before I stepped into my current role 3 years ago. While there was a steep learning curve at first, the capabilities are endless, the reporting seamless, and there is always a way to get answers whether through their great support team or the vast community of users they have built. The integrations with other MarTech vendors like Vidyard and PFL have allowed us to be creative with campaigns while tying all interactions together for a holistic view of each lead on their customer journey. Our marketing team seems to be getting leaner by the day, but Marketo has kept our agile and adaptable while keeping our work measurable and meaningful to our overall organization... and that has made all the difference.

Pros: Easy integrations with launch point. Helpful content-rich community structure.

Cons: Steep learning curve. RTP still seems very primitive in code capacity.

Recommendations to other buyers: Marketo is a significant investment. Get the most value from the tool by utilizing all they offer and integrating your martech stack throughout.

Pros: The analytics

Cons: cost

Overall: I've been using Marketo for about 4 years now, it's great, does exactly what you want to do. The only problem is you need to be a marketo expert for it to work the way you want. It takes a long time to scale as a user.

Pros: I love that Marketo allows me to assign leads equally and automatically to my team members. It can be hard to keep track of who has received leads and who has not throughout the day and Marketo makes sure that I don't have to worry about it!

Cons: I dislike that Marketo can move a lead in and out of multiple peoples names based on if there is an existing lead in Salesforce and what status that lead is in. It can be confusing to determine who that lead actually belongs to.

Pros: Lets us score leads based on actions that they take. We can assign a unique value to different things, and it'll join users across sessions.

Cons: Outdated interface and clunky UI makes it difficult to use sometimes. Workflows are built well, but look like their from early 2000's

Overall: Marketing automation and lead scoring
