Every product requires good suport, the account management team are super responsive everytime I have needed them and the technical support is 2nd to none. Pros Solid product that offers similar features to the market leaders at a better pricepoint, all backed up by a great support channel. Absolutely fantastic product. Cons The product has very little not to like. Every time I think it would be nice to have this or that, its like they read my mind and the feature is coming in the next release. Their development team are very much in tune with real world needs. The product just seems to get better with every iteration. Pros Can be hosted in TrueNas which is useful as a separate VM (jail in BSD) ; so target for backups is separate device with the nakivo hosted on it Cons Sometimes error messages dont help such as "Internal error" when a VM back up job fails. Transporters for many systems are available, great for our structure, where the backup storage is directly connected to a single server and not in the same network as our virtualisation machines. Cons Make it easier to restore single files from Linux machines, it does not support direct downloads on the web GUI when source is ext4. Admin Utilities Used the software for: Less than 6 months ### "Great backup solution for all" March 12, 2026 5.0 Pros I’ve been testing out NAKIVO lately, and honestly, it’s probably the only backup solution I’ve found that gives you full web-based management from start to finish. You can do everything - setup, scheduling, recovery, and monitoring - straight from the browser. I couldn’t find anything close to that in the open-source world. It’s also super easy to maintain and troubleshoot. The logs are clear and detailed, and the docs actually make sense (which is rare). I had a working backup for my Linux server in under five minutes, even without knowing the product beforehand - that’s how straightforward it is. Cons The only downside is the price, which can feel a bit steep if you’re just using it for a home lab. But considering how solid and long-term the solution is, I’d say it’s totally worth paying a bit more for peace of mind and ease of use. It took minimal time to setup and was working within 30 mins of starting setup. Pros This product was very easy to setup, the support I got was also quick and no AI bots to talk to. I always prefer working with companies that use live agents. Cons I wish it was a none web page for the panel. Not a big deal though. I would also suggest more explanation on certain features. Again, not a deal breaker. Local backups have been implemented, and tasks that were previously done manually are now automated, increasing the productivity of the IT team, as they can focus on other tasks while the tool handles the backups. Additionally, the solution has been configured for database backups, which used to be a major headache for the database administrators, especially when databases were damaged. Now, with both full and incremental backups, the response time for data recovery has been significantly reduced. The experience has been excellent. Pros Nakivo is a fast and efficient backup tool, but what I find most noteworthy is its granular backup capability, allowing for the backup of individual files Cons Many people believe that due to its excellent price, it doesn't deliver on all the promised features. They supported our need for Nutanix AHV, QNAP and Tape backups. I'm looking forward to trying the new PostgreSQL database option soon so that I can build my own reports. Nakivo gets the job done and gets better with each version. Pros \- We really like being able to create a backup copy from our Windows Backup server to a QNAP NAS for immutable backups over our WAN to another site. - Synthetic full backups make daily backups fast. - I like how fast I can restore a VM to Hyper-V, even if the backup was from Nutanix, and even if the backup storage is on my QNAP NAS. Cons \- SQL Backups on Nutanix do not support hourly log backups like they do on Hyper-V, so we worked around that with an inexpensive tool called "SQL Backup Master". - No support for Microsoft SQL Server yet Alternatives considered [HYCU R-Cloud](https://www.capterra.com/p/246504/HYCU-Protg/) Reason for choosing NAKIVO Backup & Replication Not only was HYCU way to expensive, it did not include support for tape backups as required by NIST 800-171. From a seasoned network administrator" August 23, 2023 5.0 I learned about computers by custom building them back in 1994. Individually purchasing all the components, I needed, then assembling the system to my client’s wish’s. I was a big Microsoft Windows fan at that point. My how things have changed. I’m now a big open-source software fan. I don’t wish to delve into the advantages of open-source software vs Microsoft software at this point. You will eventually discover this on your own. What I do wish to discuss is an amazing enterprise backup solution I came across, while googling “best enterprise backup solutions” various reviews and recommendations appeared after my search. I filtered through the reviews and one product really stood out amongst the others. Now, let’s get to the “meat” of my point. Some of the other backup solutions would only function on a Microsoft operating system and not on an open-source OS. Strike One! Some of the other backup solutions did not offer any virtualization appliance installation options. Strike Two! And after downloading and importing Nakivo’s Backup appliance into VirtualBox and having it up and running in under 15 minutes! Strike Three! All others are out! Pros It can run as a Virtual Appliance. The appliance is a Linux OS. Administrators can have it up and running and preforming backups in under 15 minutes. File level restore. Many other reasons to implement this backup solution in your environment. Install the free trial to discover for yourself. Cons I actually could not find any short comings while using the Nakivo Backup Appliance. It certainly makes your life as a network administrator so much better!
