Cons At the moment, I don’t have any additional points as everything I can think of is already included as a feature. Admin Utilities Used the software for: Less than 6 months ### "Great backup solution for all" March 12, 2026 5.0 Pros I’ve been testing out NAKIVO lately, and honestly, it’s probably the only backup solution I’ve found that gives you full web-based management from start to finish. You can do everything - setup, scheduling, recovery, and monitoring - straight from the browser. I couldn’t find anything close to that in the open-source world. It’s also super easy to maintain and troubleshoot. The logs are clear and detailed, and the docs actually make sense (which is rare). I had a working backup for my Linux server in under five minutes, even without knowing the product beforehand - that’s how straightforward it is. Cons The only downside is the price, which can feel a bit steep if you’re just using it for a home lab. But considering how solid and long-term the solution is, I’d say it’s totally worth paying a bit more for peace of mind and ease of use. The Nakivo company are easy to deal with and the license delivery is straightforward. Pros Can be hosted in TrueNas which is useful as a separate VM (jail in BSD) ; so target for backups is separate device with the nakivo hosted on it Cons Sometimes error messages dont help such as "Internal error" when a VM back up job fails. Pros Works for years without any problem. Support is always reachable and reacts fast. Transporters for many systems are available, great for our structure, where the backup storage is directly connected to a single server and not in the same network as our virtualisation machines. Cons Make it easier to restore single files from Linux machines, it does not support direct downloads on the web GUI when source is ext4. It took minimal time to setup and was working within 30 mins of starting setup. Pros This product was very easy to setup, the support I got was also quick and no AI bots to talk to. I always prefer working with companies that use live agents. Cons I wish it was a none web page for the panel. Not a big deal though. I would also suggest more explanation on certain features. Again, not a deal breaker. Cons I don't see any disadvantages of NAKIVO. For me it would be easier to have backups in the form of easily transferable files than a complicated repository, but of course I appreciate functionality and reliability above all. Pros We use Nakivo to back up our VPS servers and NAS devices. The UI and features are quite satisfactory with several expansion possibilities. We liked the new MSP feature where you can give specific access to users for specific machines. Cons There are features that we would like to be integrated such as the ability to exclude directories, the creation of an image for bare metal restore as well as the creation of Plesk integration to use Nakivo as a Plesk backup tool. Your account manager will send trial license to test any features and best part an engineer will connect to install and configure at any time with no cost. This service is available after purchase as well. You want training for new employee's schedule for an engineer and they connect and go over all features with you. Pros NAKIVO engineers connect with you and go over your install and configuration and can schedule this free service any time after install to go over anything you have questions about. My biggest pro is you can go from texting support in the program or website to having a tier 3 engineer connecting to your computer to help with any issues that arise in minutes not hours. Cons No Cons as of today, have had couple errors that popped up and support was connected and resolved within minutes. The price is not high, so it's worth trying before you go for much more expensive solutions (and not necessarily better ones). Pros An important feature is that the application can be installed on NAS devices (I use Synology), which is quite rare. This gives the possibility of completely separating the Backup infrastructure from the production infrastructure that we are securing. Cons It sometimes has hiccups (hangs a little bit), which slightly reduces the user experience. Cons The product could provide better visibility into the storage usage of VMs being backed up. When using forever incremental backups, there is no reporting capability making it difficult to account for storage on a per VM/customer level.
