From a seasoned network administrator" August 23, 2023 5.0 I learned about computers by custom building them back in 1994. Individually purchasing all the components, I needed, then assembling the system to my client’s wish’s. I was a big Microsoft Windows fan at that point. My how things have changed. I’m now a big open-source software fan. I don’t wish to delve into the advantages of open-source software vs Microsoft software at this point. You will eventually discover this on your own. What I do wish to discuss is an amazing enterprise backup solution I came across, while googling “best enterprise backup solutions” various reviews and recommendations appeared after my search. I filtered through the reviews and one product really stood out amongst the others. Now, let’s get to the “meat” of my point. Some of the other backup solutions would only function on a Microsoft operating system and not on an open-source OS. Strike One! Some of the other backup solutions did not offer any virtualization appliance installation options. Strike Two! And after downloading and importing Nakivo’s Backup appliance into VirtualBox and having it up and running in under 15 minutes! Strike Three! All others are out! Pros It can run as a Virtual Appliance. The appliance is a Linux OS. Administrators can have it up and running and preforming backups in under 15 minutes. File level restore. Many other reasons to implement this backup solution in your environment. Install the free trial to discover for yourself. Cons I actually could not find any short comings while using the Nakivo Backup Appliance. It certainly makes your life as a network administrator so much better! Your account manager will send trial license to test any features and best part an engineer will connect to install and configure at any time with no cost. This service is available after purchase as well. You want training for new employee's schedule for an engineer and they connect and go over all features with you. Pros NAKIVO engineers connect with you and go over your install and configuration and can schedule this free service any time after install to go over anything you have questions about. My biggest pro is you can go from texting support in the program or website to having a tier 3 engineer connecting to your computer to help with any issues that arise in minutes not hours. Cons No Cons as of today, have had couple errors that popped up and support was connected and resolved within minutes. We've used it for disaster recovery over a ransomware with flawless results.Support is great and responsive, with almost instant response.I recommend this solution to everyone with great confidence. Pros Nakivo has proven to be a lifesaver for us during a ransomware attack. Thanks to its powerful disaster recovery capabilities, we were able to recover all of our important files in just a matter of minutes. Within one day, all of our virtual machines were up and running again with no data loss. The support personnel were extremely helpful throughout the entire recovery process, guiding us every step of the way. The product has evolved over time from a cheap and simple VMware backup solution to a backup suite providing a lot of options and features. We have successfully deployed instances of VMware backup, replication, WAN replication, O365 backup, physical workstation backup, replication to amazon and multi-tenancy. Pros They provide great support. Over time when we had issues they always went out of their way to provide satisfactory solutions. It is very easy to setup and use regardless of the size of installation. They still provide an affordable product and I believe you definitely will get your money's worth. There is a lot of active development and not only toward new features, but also in improving stability and performance. They try to get feedback from their userbase when planning for new features. Cons We have had problems with file level recovery on large (>1 TB) XFS file systems. Space reclaim of backup repositories is slow, but has been improved recently. Pros The availability of friendly and helpful support staff. Along with the versatility of the software in virtual and "bare-metal" environments, what gives me the most peace of mind is that I know I can always rely on a support team to help me when there are problems I cannot solve just by consulting the help pages. Cons Sometimes the documentation is not very clear to me - but again, support was always ready to step in and help when I couldn't make sense of the knowledge base. One addition I would like to see is to be able to encrypt data before it reaches a public cloud repository. This is unfortunately only possible in a few situations, and generic object storage is not among them. Reason for choosing NAKIVO Backup & Replication It is the most versatile solution. Installation is incredibly easy. It runs on linux and there are pre-compiled versions for a vast array of platforms. The web GUI is excellent. April 18, 2022 4.0 Cheaper than Veeam, better than some other options. The proof is in the recovery! It's more focussed on VMWare than Hyper-V but support for Hyper-V is acceptable. Just be sure you are familiar with the features that are and are not supported for the platform you wish to protect before proceeding. The licensing is quite flexible too, with perpetual and subscription licenses. The cost comparison between licensing the CPU sockets in a hypervisor vs the annual subscription to protect the virtual machines is one part of how you'd decide which type to choose. Support is mostly responsive and at least half my questions are answered accurately in the first or second interaction. When issues are escalated to higher tiers it takes a little longer, but I have had success with remote sessions and VoIP calls with their engineers who are refreshingly knowledgeable on the various operating systems I've had their product installed on, and were more than willing to go beyond their minimum scope of supporting only the Nakivo product. Pros Easy to set up and get running. Flexible deployment, with the full solution (i.e. the "brain") running directly on supported NAS hardware, Linux OS, physical or virtual machines. Getting help is as easy as clicking "Request Support" on an error message in the WebUI. A support bundle is created and sent to Nakivo and you very quickly receive an email with a case number, followed by responses from real people. Cons Better error messages would be nice - they don't always make sense. The "brain", which is the Director component, can only exist in one place in a distributed deployment with different locations. This means that a remote site will not back up if there is a connectivity issue between sites and the Director cannot see the transporter and repositories at the remote site. April 21, 2022 5.0 Police base jobs permit that you never left a VM without backups, the software its so stable that its save me alot of hour validating backups and correct problems. Its a 2 minutes check now. Pros Its fire and forget. For long time I used other hyper-v backup solutions and the stability of the backup always was an issue, every weeks I needed hours to validate and correct problems, now I just spend 5 minutos to see that everything happen as supposed. With Nakivo its always fire and forget. No strange errors, you configure once and its done. The policy backup its great, you can create a policy with rules and when you create a new machine in the hypervisor a few minutes later its inside the backup job automatically. Nakivo does not require a lot of CPU/Memory and can be utilized on Synology backup solutions that do not include Active Backup for Business. Pros Other competitors' products are all subscription-based, whereas Nakivo is perpetual and packed with features found in enterprise backup solutions. Nakivo supports Hyper-V and ESXi without additional fees, and the enterprise version of Nakivo allows you to back up desktop workstations, encrypt backups, compress, duplicate, and back up to the cloud (google archive, wasabi, azure, aws.) The UI is simple and straight forward best of all Nakivo assigns a technician to provide you with training without additional costs. The software is intuitive and simple to pick up. Pros \- We really like being able to create a backup copy from our Windows Backup server to a QNAP NAS for immutable backups over our WAN to another site. - Synthetic full backups make daily backups fast. - I like how fast I can restore a VM to Hyper-V, even if the backup was from Nutanix, and even if the backup storage is on my QNAP NAS. Most cannot. Very affordable solution. Cons So far I haven't found any cons with it. It may not be as robust as Veeam with some features, but it does everything we need it to at a literal fraction of the cost. Pros 1\. el tema del calendario de la programacion es maravilloso, normalmente tu programas una tarea y le dices que dias y listo, este tema va mas alla ya que te muestra en el calendario todo el tiempo que se va a ejecutar esta tarea 2. el uso de ancho de banda para la copia de seguridad es eficiente, ya que al tener instalado el transporter de manera independiente esta se realiza de manera muy rapida Cons se debería restaurar el backup con el mismo nombre de la carpeta inicial, ya que uno al restaurar un backup se supone que el anterior no existe.
