Pros: It is a good application to show and adjust in meetings with clients the processes and procedures that are submitted to end user approval. It is easy to use, friendly and with good user interface.

Cons: I can only use it for process diagrams, I would like it to be more user friendly for screen designs of the systems that are developed. The interface for the design of screens to show the user is not very friendly

Overall: Optimally supports meetings with internal and external clients on the presentation of new or adjusted processes. It has a clear interface for users and supports decision-making.

It took some time to get familiar with the product and how to create and adjust diagrams.

Pros: I currently utilize the product to create workflow diagrams and to demonstrate business processes to other internal departments. The diagrams are easy to follow even for a novice.

Cons: My biggest con will be the length of time it took to familiarize myself with the product and all it has to offer.

Overall: I was able to produce diagrams that showed system workflows and business processes that were used by upper management.

Sometimes, you just need to use this. Has everything you need.

Pros: You can do SO much with this software and it's very well designed. I would recommend to anyone creating designs.

Cons: Since there are so many options, it can be super hard to figure out and learn. But, I guess that's part of any great software.

Pros: This is one of the easier and most robust illustration tools I've used; it provides for very simple organization of a hierarchy, process, etc. and it is flexible in terms of save types.

Cons: Visio 2010 is horrible and crashes a lot; 2013 is better but very expensive. Additionally, it is very tech-looking and takes a lot of work to "pretty up" a process for non-tech users.

Pros: It is pretty easy to use, allows for distinction of positions, and has a clean look. When you need to make changes, which in our organization is roughly quarterly, it can be done quickly and saved to a .pdf.

Cons: It can be glitchy, especially when you really start to fill in the page with a lot of positions. The lines don't always want to connect exactly where visually you as the designer want to place them and believe they look best.

Overall: A tool to represent our organization in a one-page, picture format. It is fairly easy to use, looks clean and a novice can pick it up quickly.

Pros: I have tried to find software like this, and there is nothing like it. It's perfect for IT designers, Architects as myself, Project Managers and IT executives. Every project I do begins with Visio.

Cons: Price maybe, I wish it has some serious competition. Visio stencils are sometimes limited. And the new THEMES are simply not my thing.

Pros: Being able to use templates and search for assets for a visio document makes it really easy to find what you need.

Pros: It is very easy to use and thus allows you to quickly and efficiently create flowcharts. The large amounts of Symbols gives you a wide range of different Kinds of Charts that you can create.
The main use I have it for is the creation of work processes and decision-making trees, but other People in our Company use it for seating Arrangements and Things of that nature as well. It is very powerful and beats any other tool of that sort that I have encountered.

Cons: The Connections between boxes sometimes does not do what I would like it to, meaning when I am trying to draw a line a certain way, depending on the Situation at Hand, the System sometimes does it differently and it can be annoying to Change it to what I would like it to be.

Overall: I save a lot of time creating flowcharts for new workflows

Pros: The software takes almost no time to learn as it is intuitive (for the most part) to create network diagrams, flowcharts, or process maps. Scalability functions are nice and the fact that it works much like a vector based image creator removes large print concerns.

Cons: It would be nice to see more file formats on the save option. I've wanted to convert some Visio layouts into other programs to create ladder logic etc. however, I'm not sure that capability exists yet.

Cons: Interface is a little more dated than some of the new web based alternatives and use is not quite as intuative- however this is outweighed by its sheer diversity

Pros: This is one of the best available programs out there for designing flow charts. Whilst it may not be the most aesthetic of programs, it is incredibly useful for designing.

Cons: I feel the available shapes/design menus can be better arranged/organised, sometimes it can be quite difficult in finding the most appropriate items to suit your needs. There is a search feature but unless you know what name Microsoft has called the shape/design, it can be tricky to find.

It can be quite frustrating to line up the fields, zooming in and out is a frequent requirement that requires some patience.

Pros: Easy to use and understand software that we successfully use for department organization charts and system setup.

Cons: The software can sometimes be needless cumbersome. As with all Microsoft products usability has a lot to be desired. I wish they would have an "easy mode" for every one of their software programs.

It's an important tool to do flux diagrams and use cases, route to different process and activities.

Pros: Very easy, drag and drop functionality. Great for creating business process maps, flowcharts, org charts etc. Very complicated charts can be easily made in this software.

Cons: If one needs to share the chart with someone, the other person needs to install a viewer to see the file. It would have been great if shareable file could be an image format file, easily viewable without installing anything.

Overall: I used it to create current state and future state processes.

Pros: Visio is an amazing application to use, if you need it for relationship between one diagram to another. I use more for create a database warehouse, which consists of 10-20 tables and relating between table structure. The app is part of Microsoft office professional plus package, so its is easy to save docs to onedrive cloud storage.

Cons: I think the price, that fact that you cannot purchase the application individually, but instead you need to purchase as a Microsoft package. Also, it is expensive, as all Microsoft products are, but it is a great application for people who want to learn and use visio

Overall: I personally benefit from one thing, which is improving my experience in entity relationship diagrams.

Pros: Visio has lots of functionality for a variety of people. Being an IT person, I've used it for network diagrams, as well as building layouts (showing which ports go to which desks, etc.) I like the flexibility of the product, and how you can import different stencils in to make things more accurate. I know a lot of non-IT personnel will use it for things like Organizational Charts, etc.

Cons: My only real complaint about visio is that in my opinion, it is not very user friendly, at least not up front. It takes some time to get used to the nuances that it has, but otherwise, I think it works very well.

Pros: Capabilities to go beyond simple diagramming, including the ability to use macros with layers to switch views within a single diagram. This alone once saved me the effort of producing multiple diagrams for the same workflow process, reflecting how groups of users with different permissions would "see" the same flow.

Cons: 1) Shapes only offer one text block. Classic example: database "cans", where I'd like to have a "name" text block within the oval and a "description" text block within the body. After all these years, surely Microsoft could work out a way to have two or more text blocks in a single shape (or on a single connector)!
2) Connectors love to re-route and are hard or impossible to "lock down" in complex diagrams, including both diagrams built "from scratch" and those using templates (e.g. organization charts).
3) Temperamental Templates. All of the templates I have used (organization charts, database relationships and home room layout in recent memory) have been almost as much trouble as they were useful. Apparently room layout is a particularly challenging task as I couldn't find a good non-Microsoft tool elsewhere either.

I'm fairly widely experienced creating business graphics with a number of tools, but not a full-time graphics professional. I use Visio to visually document systems and databases with which I work in software development and maintenance.

As such, I'm technical enough to understand something about the shape system, but with only a rare opportunity to "tinker" with Visio to try to "get it to behave". I'd really like more ability to "lock" connectors and shapes and richer text capabilities for both shapes and connectors.

Bottom line: Visio's ease of use has barely changed in years and is the single area that Microsoft should address next.

Overall: More sophisticated capabilities than other Microsoft graphics tools

Pros: I have used Visio, off and on since it was introduced by Shapeware. Back then I was an IT manager and I used it for all my wiring diagrams, computer distribution, hub layouts, phone system layout, etc. More recently I used it for Lean/process improvement. It is very useful for creating swim lanes, flow diagrams, etc. It is easy to group and plop into PowerPoint.

Cons: Sometimes it was a little confusing on finding the shapes I wanted. Because they are grouped I sometimes had to hunt for them.

Pros: - It is a very elegant and professional way to do sketches of an office or anything like a blueprint.
- You can save your document in many different formats.

Cons: - Some functions or properties are limited.
- Should have a way to present all your files in other ways than .html, like videos.

Overall: With this software I can have both my inventory and its location in one file, it is very handy when it comes to management of resources.

This program always seems to be a good idea at first and then becomes miserably complicated

Pros: The ability to organize deployments, organization, departments in a logical manner. The ability to show how items can be nested.

Cons: It shouldn't take hours to create a simple layout which it always feels like it does. I always want to start with an org chart and just constantly adjusting lines and boxes, at some point, i just grab a sheet of paper (and transport back to 1985)

I have used Visio while in school and my profession. I like the features that are available.

Pros: Easy to build block diagrams. There are a lot of options and flexibility when designing my diagrams. Not only are they easy to build but they look good.

Cons: The cost. Oftentimes it is much more reasonable to use open source software to accomplish my needs. It just costs too much.

Overall: Ease of use and flexibility

Pros: This program is great for creating floorplan layouts, but its real power comes from being able to create org charts/flow charts, etc.

Cons: I wouldn't call this the most intuitive product. Definitely has a little bit of a learning curve.

I wish there were more forums and Youtube videos to assist with some of the questions you have with capabilities, how to, and functionality.

Overall: Ability to Make org Charts from an Excel document.

Pros: Very easy to use, quality graphics and diagramming, built-in stencils to use, and it is easy to share work with other users.

Cons: There could be more features and functionality, and the quality of support could be better. Also, Visio doesn't seem to integrate to other Microsoft applications as well as some of the other Microsoft applications.

Overall: We can diagram our work using flowcharts and stencils, making it easier to understand. Visio is easy to use, even for a non-technical person.

Pros: This product is great for mapping out processes. We use it to make visuals of various processes to easily explain them to others and show them to clients.

There are a lot of designs available to use in this product to show these processes, which is nice, things like lines, arrows, squares, triangles, etc. The variety helps define the process well.

Cons: This software takes some learning and is an additional cost; you don't get it with the rest of the Microsoft products. Due to this, not very many people at our company have Visio, which is hard since then only one or two people can create and edit the process documents.

Pros: Visio's ablility to allow layering allows me to easliy hide or expose data I need for the images I need to share with management, customers, or vendors when creating network drawings.

Cons: This is not a direct problem with Visio itself, but with finding and installing the Stencils can be frustrating. I also have not figured out how to move the txt assoicated with an item to a different locaiton around the icon. For example, the label is always on the bottom, and I can't move ot to the side or top for clartity of the drawing

Overall: Allows me to create detailed network drawings of my environment

Pros: Visio is the best tool I have to create flow charts and other diagrams. MS has drawing capabilities in Powerpoint, but flow charts, org charts, office layouts are done much easier with Visio

Cons: I've done a lot of floor layout diagrams and would like more options as to the objects that may be included in a diagram

Overall: Easy to develop diagrams and in the latest version alignment and organization of objects has improved.

Pros: Software integrates well with other Microsoft products

Cons: To my knowledge does not have dynamic mathematical capabilities. I would like to be able to make Visio objects contain numbers and equations which are connected to other Visio objects with numbers and equations.

Overall: I am a new user to Microsoft Visio. The reason I gave the Customer Support three stars is because I I have not actually used customer support for this product yet.

I have been impressed with Visio by how well it integrates with other Microsoft products such as Excel. I find Visio fun to use. Being a visual person, it has helped me organize my priorities at work and quickly identify where I need to focus my efforts.

Comments: I use visio almost daily and find it a practical and powerful tool. Particularly when you use the add ins and extra features, such as excel charts, graphs etc. Autocad support. This is the most versatile tool that I have used and is more than fit for purpose.

Pros: Multi file and product support, eg Excel, Charts, AudCad, Word, powerpoint. SharePoint workflow import and export. Alignment tools, embedded hyperlinks

Cons: Its not exactly cheap but if you want a tool that will do anything in the business drawing then it becomes value for money.

Comments: Microsoft will not help you whatsoever with any problems you may encounter. Visio appears cool, but the interface is not easily adjusted and does not allow much room to import from pre-existing files. Would not recommend. Too expensive for tools you could find on any other Microsoft application.

Pros: Attractive interface, multiple charts/tables to start from

Cons: Microsoft is extremely unhelpful when you attempt to contact them with any questions. Additionally, many problems arose for me when I used this app. Be aware than only people with Visio installed on their computer can even VIEW charts/tables/graphs. Very limited.

Recommendations to other buyers: Not the best choice out there. Spend your money wisely.

All in one tool for wireframe designing lovers

Mar 04, 2014

Overall

Comments: i have been using microsoft visio from last 3year and found it more easier and attractive than any other tool that is used today. I have work on balsamiq as well. The difference that i found while working on these two tool is that you can create more better wireframe design than creating in balsamiq.. You can exactly create a good wireframe design for website front end and backend, flowcharts etc with colors, images etc if you have a great imagination and designing skills. But you can;t play with colors in Balsamiq while designing a website layout.

Pros: 1. Easier to use. 2. you can easily Edit the labels, buttons etc just by clicking on that. But in Balsamiq you need to edit the label or button text by selecting and right clicking on that 3. All visio files will be combine in one vsd file

Cons: Its basically used for wireframe designing.. you cant create a clickable prototype using this. If you want to create a clickable prototype than you should go for axure or any other tool.
