It is very helpful that I don't have to think if I have the last version of documents in my laptop. Cons The storage capacity is limited but It is understandable since it is free. Pros It's easy to use, setup, and maintain functional file sharing and backup systems effectively... It's good for that. Cons It lacks a lot of the selling points of alternative options for this purpose, such as MEGASync, Google Drive, Dropbox, and similar services. I could not rely solely on Nextcloud without some of my needs going unmet. Switched from [Google Drive](https://www.capterra.com/p/161425/Drive/) I wanted to give something else a try. Pros It is easy to get the server up and running and it is easy to maintain and update. Security updates comes frequently and it is easy to update. The desktop client and mobile app is working flawless. Cons Had some initial problems with setup and installing certificates. Some third-party addons can make the product instable. This also allows me or them to comment on files or leave notes about certain things if needed. I also use their chat and video conferencing plugin to communicate with clients. Pros It's open source! And not only that, but compared to other open source software, Nextcloud works out of the box with very little customization. It also provides lots of official plugins that work out of the box as well for customizing the product. Cons There isn't anything I can think of that I didn't really like about the product. Pros I very much like the fact that I'm in control of where my data is stored/located locally and in the "cloud". That no one, or entity, can see or review that data without my expressed consent. Cons Not technically a problem with the software, but my normal hosting service doesn't have a one click option for NextCloud, but does for the very similar competitor, so I currently have 2 hosting services, one for my web/offsite backup and one for NextCloud. Reason for choosing Nextcloud Not really, just moving away from the free services to have more security and freedom. I am not surrendering OneDrive, but possibly running NextCloud in parallel for a longer-term test. The pairing with a cloud system may be a good option too. Pros Free version is very flexible; Runs even on SBC-like raspberry pi; but scales up to much more powerful versions and use of External NAS on network for full featured netwoking . Also, like the value of third-party plugins that add many features. Cons Slightly complex to install and manage all of the features, but not too impossible. For privacy concerns, this may be a worthwhile trade-off. NextCloud provides so much which you can extend with additional apps to cover most of what you need in a collaboration suite. Cons Some third party apps cause system errors but easy enough to roll back.
