### "All premium features for a cloud system, on premise."

July 24, 2023

5.0

Pros

I use self-hosted Nextcloud for me and for some of our customers and we are all satisfied: in a click you can save, share, search your files and documents. There are many extensions available as OCR, photo retouch and so on and you can connect also external sourced as S3, Google Drive, Dropbox and others.

Cons

Nextcloud community is not easy to install, but if you know systems a little and follow instructions you can do it by yourself. As an alternative you can buy Nextcloud

Pros

### "One of the best in cloud service"

March 28, 2023

5.0

As a holding company we are have business entities which are located in a diffrent working area and travelling or mannage documentflow could be a hard task, hovewer Nextcloud makes distance short and give a great opportunity to your business process.

Pros

It gives a great assistance in reading a ton of documents which are vital in an industry. What does it make super easy to use is the access to the cloud from mobile device or your working computer and for a big holding company is vital.

Cons

For me is very important the option for a dark or light theme, due to eye surgery. In Nextcloud case it is there and using this service I'm not disappointed, so far so good.

### "For those concerned with digital autonomy is a must"

August 21, 2019

5.0

Pros

Apparently, Nextcloud does not offer any new or suprising feature: files synchronization and sharing with teams, calendar, contacts, tasks, videoconferences, collaborative document edition... However, not only does each and every of those aforementioned features (and more) within an integrated app and login, but it does so putting users' data and privacy on top. After all, Nextcloud is not a regular service but an opensource software that can be installed and run in your own server/nas and therefore, user has full control of their own data (and, yes, for those who do not want to tinker and manage the software, there are plenty of companies that offer Nextcloud as a service). Some features I like the most are: \* File sync and sharing (of course) \* Real-time document collaboration using LibreOffice \* Calendars \* Contacts \* Mobile apps \* Great community and ecosystem \* It's free. It's FLOSS

Cons

It may seem as a simple clone of Google Services at first sight, even though their approach is totally different. While the software is free, the setup (server, management...) is not free. Some people may think of Nextcloud as a cheap replacement for Dropbox or Drive who may be disappointed if they want to do the move just for money, as it may not be as cheap as those services if they do not consider other reasons such as privacy concerns.

### "A great option for customizable cloud storage and collaboration"

December 29, 2020

5.0

I've been using NextCloud since it's initial release (I started with OwnCloud before it forked). I love that it is open source and I can set it up on my own server, which is exactly what I've done for both personal use and a non-profit I support. I've been using it in both of those roles for a couple of years now and have been very satisfied. I've even used hosted versions for personal use as well.

Pros

It gives me more flexibility than other cloud storage options in terms of defining different users and user access to different content. Also, the federated storage model is fantastic - I can use much more cost-effective, S3 compliant storage solutions than standard web server storage pricing.

Cons

A few of the user interface design choices are non-standard, such that new users don't always intuit how to use it; but there are only a few such issues.

Reason for choosing Nextcloud

Three elements were key: - cost containment; I use the open source solution so my only cost is hosting. - feature set; I was able to set up the kind of user access control I wanted. - feature set; I was able to link to S3 compliant storage, first AWS but now I use Wasabi.

### "Awesome Office and Picture Sync"

December 9, 2019

5.0

All in all, this allowed me to work remotely, schedule things, and to have my data at hand. It does serve as an easy backup too. When I bring on someone else, we will be able to easily keep in sync, as scalability is builtin.

Pros

What I really like is how it will sync my photos from my phone to my cloud, which I can then have on my computer. I can take a picture, and then have it on my laptop or desktop. It allows me to have my own set of personal notes on it, that are not scanned nor data mined. They are simple to use and allow me to jot down ideas and things to do. I can sync my calendar to it, allowing me to schedule things on my computer or on my phone. Personally, I like the Docker image that they have, as it allowed me to quickly set it up and get it working.

Cons

As the software is self-hosted, sometimes it has given me trouble, but mainly because it's running on a very small computer (comparable to a Raspberry Pi). But it's been a few months since that's happened, and if I had an HA setup, that wouldn't be an issue.

### "Perfect Google Drive Alternative for the Tech Savy, but a ways to go for the general populace"

August 6, 2020

4.0

Nextcloud is great for people who are tech-savvy and want to reduce privacy concerns brought forth by having all of your data saved to the cloud. Nextcloud should look into selling small mediacenter-style computers that have Nextcloud pre-installed on them, in cooperation with a hosting service, so that a layman could just plug it in, answer a few questions, and be up and running in minutes.

Pros

Nextcloud is a fantastic software that gives so many features for free to users to host their own data. The interface is very simple and attractive, and the mobile app and client-side software make it a great replacement for Google Drive

Cons

Inherent with the versatility of the software, Nextcloud is limited to who can use it. It's very complicated to set up your own server for a non-tech user, and I feel this will be a barrier preventing it from growing.

### "Great EFSS Tool with great platform coverage of clients"

July 24, 2022

4.0

Very quick start by simple deployment with Linux based installation. Was able to quickly roll it out on a pilot deployment.

Pros

Extensibility. The open source foundations of the product helps us to customize and innovate on the product base.

Cons

The available commercial pricing models should be more agile to compete with cloud scale EFSS solutions. If they could offer a pricing model to take this to consumer level (E.g. Dropbox alternative) with PAYG pricing this would be great.

### "My experience with Nextcloud"

December 29, 2020

5.0

Pros

The most impactful Nextcloud's features are : choise between Self hosted and on premises installation. Client side encryption Video Verification File Access Control File storage (local/NFS) Global scalability Integrated Groupware (Calendar/Contacts/Mail/Kanban) Integrated Audio/Video/Text chat Inter-server sharing Workspaces Nextcloud is very natural easy to yse We have easly integrate Nexcloud with our messaging and collabotaion system (KOPANO) We also easly integrate it with our LMS solution , which is MOODLE, for sharing documents.

Cons

I think it would be good to have a workflow in Nextcloud. for example, to create document validation processes in a collaborative way. And many other cases. I would like to see the possibility of integrating it with our current CRM/ERP system , which is ERPNEXT.

### "Keep control on your data"

December 9, 2019

At the beginning I was using it to store my online courses to have a centralized point to consult them. Progressively I used it to backup automatically my personal pictures from my phone, numerised official documents, to share documents with friends and family. Really no more use of dropbox or things like this now

Pros

This is quite easy to set up and administrate. Updates are very easy to install. Great overall functionnalities and good documentation Open source FTW

Cons

### "Best known solution for network of NGOs, great emphasis on privacy and open standards"

August 23, 2019

5.0

We started with a test period, yet the staff and working groups adopted Nextcloud for their main workflow much sooner than anticipated. Nextcloud's emancipatory approach to document ownership and the sharing logic vs. traditional ACL required some training and new concepts within our teams.

Pros

Nextcloud comes with a great flexibility: already with a tiny budget you can get started and meet many of your organization's needs. There are no hidden costs. New features can be added by extensions ("apps") almost on-the-go. Scaling to bigger set-ups is not too difficult. The developers and community are extremely friendly and helpful.

Cons

When we started two years ago, features were often not well documented and the upgrade process sometimes caused problems. But the situation has improved dramatically since then. The approach to end-to-end encryption and its key management is sometimes confusing.

Reason for choosing Nextcloud

\- Open source and open standards approach; - Possibility for self-hosting, no dependency on companies with intransparent data privacy; - No strict licence fees;

### "analrchy when mutliple folder sharing"

August 24, 2019

4.0

The client is good, but it is difficult to uses the history of synced files. Everything is marked as "updated now", and there is no indication if the files have been sent, updated, received, and especially by which user ... In that matter, tools like sharepoint does it better.

Pros

It works on raspberry pi (20 Watts only) and therefore it is possible to build a local storage inside my organization with unlimited disk storage and only on intranet (speed up the transfer and uses less bandwith and energy).

Cons

The sharing of multiple folders to multiple users is difficult to follow. About 100 filders are quickly shared in the owncloud root folder. One should add a folder synchronization to each of them manually on each client to really share the files (otherwise, it is just an authorization to access the files, that usually never reaches the several clients even if available in the root folder). A solution to really share (and put the files on the final user hard drive) should be perfect. example : start the sharing of a folder and select which user and where (in which folder of the final user hierarchy) it should start to synchronize : no action on the final user client (mayba an approval ?)

### "Best solution for any company which needs a cloud storage access on-premesis or self-hosted"

February 11, 2020

5.0

Pros

Self-host solution - Since some files are sensitive, an on-premises was the only option our company was comfortable with. Free/Open Source and continuous updates - We moved from Samba and Dropbox to Nextcloud without spending much (since it's open source), making the it easier for management to be convinced. Also there's continuous updates with new features and security fixes, and community resources as well (forums and apps). Desktop & Mobile clients - Made it really convenient to access and sync files across devices and users, even remotely.

Cons

\- We had some issues while updating nc a few times before, and breaking the installation. Managed to fix it though, but our team is still not really confident with updates. - Granular access controls. We have groups and group folders (owned by the main admin, shared to groups), and we use tags for restricting folders to certain groups or users. These restrictions can only be done by an admin, making it difficult for other users to restrict files to certain group of users (within the group/department folders). There's obviously room for improvement for access controls.

### "Great platform to manage small teams and including parnter and customer collaboration"

August 24, 2019

4.0

inter-organisation project management and file exchange and versioning. We take significant benefit of the group administration allowing customers and partners to self-manage their team access.

Pros

The core features which is file management, synchronisation, and access management are very mature. Different access control strategies can be implemented on top of a simple group management and group administrator concept. The implementation relies on open standards. I appreciate very much the security centric development focus of the Nextcloud team. There development process follows believably security best practices. Also, security bugs are fixed rapidly compared to other vendors.

Cons

\- It's based on PHP. - there is no access control concept for the use of apps yet

### "Nextcloud ås filé server, and more"

December 23, 2020

4.0

What we used Nextcloud for is as a file server, server for sharing files with internal and external users, functions such as Deck, Flow, simultaneous editing of MS Office files with Onlyoffice and MS Office online. I have also recently started Talk with the signal server to be able to use as a chat and video solution.

Pros

Some of the things I like most are the ease of installing and configuring, the ease of managing and sharing files, the wide range of apps, the ability to integrate with other systems, the ability to change the code to suit us and the rapid pace of development.

Cons

I lack the support of virtual files in the sync client. To my knowledge, there is no info on what the bottleneck in the system is. It would have been good if there was a tool that could give an indication of choices in the system that are slow. Now I have tested myself to see which software or hardware has been too slow.

### "Highly useful for users like me"

May 25, 2021

5.0

Been using since OwnCloud and since handed over to NextCloud, i can see lots more improvement. Very happy with this software.

Pros

1\. It does what it advertises and does it well 2. Free 4. Security conscious to some extent. The software does recommended as well as let you know what needs to be fixed (Self Hosted) 5. Lots of plugins, for eg. Ability to edit excel document right through your browser or phone without additional software. 6. Documentation for installing on self hosted systems and information is quite variant and easy to understand 7. Applications for mobile devices with very nice features, for eg. When taking a video or photo with your phone, you have the ability to upload the img/vids automatically to your server

Cons

Just one issue. If your server needs an update (Self Hosted) it would be great to have the desktop software notify you rather than login with your admin account on the self-hosted system and look in there.

### "Self hosting - taking back control"

January 13, 2020

5.0

Pros

I can self host my own cloud in a secure environment and retain the flexibility of storage limits, user accounts, plugins and access methods. Client software exists for all major platforms - Linux, macOS, Windows, iOS and Android. Configuration on the server side is quite straight forward and by having access to the command line tool on the server I could fix problems that arose. Documentation and user information is very good.

Cons

Some earlier version upgrades had the potential to cause problems. Intervention on the command line was needed to fix things. Recent improvements have made upgrades pretty much seamless. With a large number of plugins installed the need to frequently update the plugins becomes greater. This is done using an admin account in the web interface and is usually a one click operation. Synchronisation can get confused with multiple clients and manual resolution is usually required to resolve conflicts in versions of files.

### "Why not"

August 23, 2019

5.0

I love it

Pros

I've been using Nextcloud since v11-12, but before that had been using ownCloud since v5. It's a brilliant way of sharing files across multiple devices and sharing files with others. I was looking for my own version of Dropbox and Nextcloud fits the bill, and some. Some of the more recent Apps really could make this a complete solution, with the Collarora/Onlyoffice integration, Decks, Circles, Passwords, Email, Talk, etc. And it's open source. Like I said at the start, why not?

Cons

I'm not a fan of the new forum/support platform but am struggling to find something I least like about the software

### "Fantastic Product."

December 27, 2019

4.0

Fantastic. I use it for communication, sharing, news, calendar, contacts, pretty much everything. I use this software every chance I get.

Pros

Mostly it's extensibility. I find the ability to extend and personalize Nextcloud for your purposes the most valuable thing about it. I use it as a central hub to work with many other features within the organization.

Cons

The cost of the paid versions of collabora office and nextcloud talk. I wish there was a tier for non-business users who what to simply set up a private service for their friends. The current price model puts these features out of reach for very small organizations or even for personal use. I also wish password reset emails, or other email from the server could be encrypted via pgp keys. There's a plug in to allow this I think but it's held up by a pending merge request.

Reason for choosing Nextcloud

Nextcloud is the more complete solution.

### "A platform for almost every data"

December 25, 2020

5.0

Nextcloud today is getting to be our centralized information storage, management and sharing plattform. The possibilities of collaboration are making many business processes easier and more efficient.

Pros

Nextcloud gives you a feature rich platform for data storage, organisation and sharing but also many integrations like an Elasticsearch or LDAP connector and many more. These integrations work flawlessly and the built-in apps like the E-Mail Client, an hosted Calender and even a Password Manager are now replacing many commercial apps we used before.

Cons

The installation of Nextcloud is at some points a little tricky and nothing for completely unexperienced users, but with basic knowledge in Linux and the LAMP Stack this should be no big deal. Some Apps like the "Passwords" app are missing some major Features like sharing a Folder of Passwords, but hopefully this will change soon.

### "Mediocre File sharing software"

July 24, 2019

4.0

Nextcloud was chosen to be the companies file sharing tool in- and externally before my old company got bought up so i used it very regularly for almost a year and after that semi regularly. Ultimately we switched to a competitor looking to gain better collaboration features and integration with existing tools while still having next cloud for users who didnt want to switch instantly. I would say it's ok price vise and you can customize a lot more features when compared to competitors, but it could come with quite some work. When everything was set up we had no hiccups over our whole usage, so thats a big plus

Pros

There are a lot of plugins/addons available to install. Kanbanboards, ToDo Lists, etc. The Webinterface looked stylish and was good to navigate once you had a little time to get to know it.

Cons

The included file synching for windows was lacking options and the ui was almost none existant. All though there were a lot of addons, the base functionallity wasnt that big, so for us it took a lot of convincing to install new features. Evene when we had them they sometimes lacked features you would find in almost all standalone versions (For example the settings on the Kanban boards where extremely limited when compared to Standalone solutions) As far as I know our Sysadmins had a fair share of problems with AD synching.
