Pros The software is very great to deploy and maintain; Every user likes using the software. The build-in addons are a huge win. From my perspecitve one of the best choices you can do as a system adminsitrator if you want to deploy a software like nextcloud. Cons Sometimes, there are really strange speed problems nextcloud, on which the logfiles don't include a lot of information about possible reasons. Just the part where OnlyOffice/Collabora is wanted, the installation is not that easy. Pros It is stable ven when you do not update to every single new version. The syncing with the local client keeps data safe. Cons Sometimes updates do not work as planned, one can correct the problem but it takes much time to manually restore the functionality. This is not a Nextcloud problem but changing from owncloud to nextcloud is a bit tricky. Mr Information Technology and Services Used the software for: 1-2 years ### "Ease of Use and Feature Rich" December 26, 2020 5.0 NextCloud can be deployed on a number of different platforms but the one we use exclusively at CompuWhizz is with it installed on Ubuntu Server, we have run it on 16.04, 18.04 and now we have transitioned to 20.04 and for the first time have moved over to a snap installation, we do though have the storage on an "external" device which we then rsync to an onsite Synology. Pros Ease of Use and the available features are he stand out pros! Cons The learning curve isn't particularly steep so we didn't experience any issues Reason for choosing Nextcloud We found it was the best fit for us given the need to have direct control over where our stored data was located and how it was protected. Cons When installed in service provider space, still get PHP config warning that can't be solved as the service provider do not allow some parameters changes. Pros Great document management software for project teams with great selection of plug-in apps. In addition to file management, I use a number of the plug-in apps. The "Deck" app handles my basic needs for agile-style Kanban project management without a monthly subscription, and Calendar provides a shared team calendar. Cons Would be really convent to have apps for time-based project management (i.e. Gantt charts) with integrated timesheets to capture time spent on task. Pros A safe, secure and private cloud service that is under your control. Cons Only thing missing is a built-in email service. Reason for choosing Nextcloud I use the open source community version so I get the benefits of file sync, etc at no cost to me other than the running of the LAMP server. Our current e-filing solutions has a relatively small file size limit and many of our appeal files can be 50Mb+. Also, we host our own Nextcloud server so all data remains within our control which is imperative with legal documents. Pros Nextcloud is web-based and very easy to use. It required minimal training for our users upload and share files Cons When creating a share link, I wish it would show the URL rather than just give the option to copy it. Complex, feature rich, open source! A fork of ownCloud, it covers way more cases than the one I was looking for, so I decided to use one that does just photo management, but I really appreciated the ease of use and the seamless installation of this software! I am sure, that once I’ll have an use case that Nextcloud offers, it will be my first stop! :) Cons Not a con! But for me, it was a \_bit\_ too feature rich for my liking - I like tools that do one thing, and one thing only. The instance can be updated by administrator from settings page remotely. So keeping the instance up-to-date is easy. Have never faced an issue with updates. The best part is that it is seamless. There's an app called Nextcloud Talk, that we are currently using for our internal communication. Since we are hosting it in our server, the privacy concerns are mitigated. Cons Currently, I am unable to rename the file-sharing links. It provides all the basics that a cloud should offer such as secure file sharing, calendar, contacts, access to email and a lot more. The one-click install feature for apps means that it is incredibly easy to add functionality as required. With the Outlook plugin, sharing files with contacts is both secure and easy. Cons While there is a native file sync client for Android, the sync client doesn't sync contacts or calendar but requires a third-party app. Fortunately, this works well and is easily afforded. You then have all your data at home or at your company and not in the big cloud somewhere on the earth. Cons You need to know how to set up the cloud and also need to administrate it. If you can do that, especially incl. the backups, then it could be yours. We always had downtimes because of errors, so for the company use it was not good enough. Nextcloud is also frequently updated, and it has a big community of users and administrators willing to help. The business model of the parent company, Nextcloud GmbH, is very good for customers, they are committed to providing a 100% freely available opensource product, and they make money by offering premium support services. So there are no traps after adopting the product, and if you need enterprise support and other premium services, you can get them . Cons It has 2 ways to do theming that can't co-exist and offer different functionality. So there is always some little thing you can't achieve.
