My colleagues use different OS. Pros This Solution is very easy to you, it is integrated whit your OS of your PC so end user don't understand where are store there file. Plug ins allow for lots of functions that are expected from file sharing software Cons Administering the system requires at least some knowledge of Linux systems, so it's not for everyone, but there's lots of help online. Some synching issues due to the hosting and other due to the Mac client. But over all it feels like home. Pros I love the idea of self hosted cloud service. The fact that now every file has to be uploaded to 3rd parties is by itself a selling feature. There are quite a few apps and addons. Cons Most apps and features are halfway there. I know they will improve over time and I’m happy to support the development of some, but still not ready for the masses. The drawback of opensource is, that you have to get into different styles of coding to understand the processes in the backend and be mentally agile for delivering quick adaptions. Pros The focus on main-functionality is awesome. Large customsers use nextcloud. Scaleability is great. Multichannel (Web, client, webdav, android, ios). There are many good apps. Cons Legacy code, there is a lot of nearly unrewritable code in the core. Apps have certain dependencies and cause side-effects. Enabling social app kills the functionality of the cloud completely when a prerequisite app isn't activated before. Reason for choosing Nextcloud It's open source and has a large community. Pros Easy to use, user-friendly interfaces, sync clients for all platforms, and best of all: self-hosted! The staff of the company are really friendly, open people with whom you can have conversations about problems, ideas, features or anything else. They are helpful and ALWAYS willing. Nextcloud solved this issue for us. Pros We rely on our Nextcloud instance everyday for calendaring (CalDav), and document sharing to Android, Mac OS, iOS and Linux desktop clients. Since installing the host application in 2015 we have used the web-upgrade to reliably upgrade that instance without issue. Strongly recommend this excellent open-source application. Pros Very easy to set up, painless to upgrade, friendly community. The core functionality (file sharing, calendar, address book) is very stable since I first started using Nextcloud. Cons I did not find any cons really. I like to upgrade using separate install trees for each version and until version 16 I always had to re-eenable and install my add-ons after upgrading but even this minor nuisance has since been ironed out. December 17, 2020 5.0 Our company dabbled with Office 365 and Google Drive for sharing data with our team, but we always had issues with each one of them, either privacy or lack of certain features and control. Nextcloud being free, privacy centric , conventional and loaded with new features served to be the perfect solution for our implementation. Pros \- Being open source and having pretty much full control over your own hosting, it negates any need for other paid solutions like Google Drive or Office 365. - End to end encryption makes sharing documents very easy and secure. - Easy to organize and manage all documents and files in a practical manner. - Effective privacy and high levels of security and control of data. - Accessible through any device, anywhere. - Completely premium software, clean and sleek interface and highly customizable. - Packed with features and more on the way. Cons \- Any problem arises, it is all yours to fix, invest your time and work. - Backups have to be implemented pretty much on your own. - A little clunky software and there is a bit of a learning curve. - Updating is a little dodgy sometimes.
