It allows a quick, informal, non e-mail way to chat back and forth! Pros This software allows my team to quickly and easily communicate. We can set up rooms that allow only certain team members to receive messages in, which prevents potential communication mixups Cons We haven't seen any issues so far with our use of this software. Head of IT Media Production Used the software for: 6-12 months ### "Great Alternative to Slack" May 30, 2019 5.0 Great experience so far, pricing model is the only limitation for integration into our platform as we dont want to maintain our own app. Pros RocketChat is probably one of the best alternative to slack, it offers both the long-term support of open-source and the fast adoption cycle of a commercial cloud based offer. Cons Per-user pricing model is still to high for a chat, and limitation of push notifications is a problem for mobile user support. Another pricing model would be appreciated. It's an easy-to-use workplace chat app, that can definitely be used as your only option. It offers a lot of add-ons, which may be useful. Pros It's a familiar layout as it's similar to Slack. You can easily create channels and chat to team members. Uploading custom emoji is always fun, and it works well on Rocket.Chat. Cons It just doesn't feel as streamlined and fast as Slack, and I'm not a huge fan of the notification sounds included. No more 10k message limitation pruning old useful conversation/fixes in a tech setting. Cons When the world seems to be using Slack and one room moves to Rocket.Chat, it just means another client/tab to have open. I can't fault them for that... just hoping the rest of the world moves over too. Ha! Pros You can easily message people in your company. I can easily search by name of who I want to talk to and send messages to them even if they are offline. Cons I have to have rocket chat open to get messages. If i'm out of it I don't get them. It'll send the message to my email but I don't always check that. I have not found a phone app to go with it so I can respond immediately. Pros Low cost, option to self-host, open-source, active development, generally fast. Cloud option was an easy setup. Overall, it works. Cons It needs polish. There are lots of little things that cause friction: they're annoying or confusing. For instance, aliases are case-sensitive (gets my team constantly). Alias completion has a very slight delay which makes it hard to use. I can't set the order of my groups and direct messages on the left pane. It means we cannot leave futher when HipChat and slack will merge. We were looking at a good replacement for HipChat and Rocket.Chat seems to be a very good candidate so far. Pros We really like the easiness of the product, it allows almost any type of modern communication like #slack can do in the cloud, Rocket.Chat is located on your servers inside your company. For no-cloud enterprise, this is the perfect fit ! Cons It needs more extension. So far the app list is not very long, but I'm pretty sure this will come. Anyway, the existing list is already great. It does miss some of the extensions and integration; however on the surface, this is still a pretty good and reliable tool. Pros The great thing about this product vs it's competitors such as SLACK is that it is far cheaper, with close to the same functionality as you would expect with the other guys. You can either communicate with people in groups, or in a private channel Cons It does lack some functionality such as extensions that are shared with the competitors.
