### "A CMS that puts many others to shame."

August 10, 2018

5.0

Joomla is one of my two go to open-source softwares for building amazing websites for my clients....but Joomla has been my go to for the longest!

Pros

I have been using Joomla for well over 10 years. I love the functionality and extendability as a web developer. The community for Joomla is amazing when you need help, and customizing is a breeze with a little PHP knowledge. My favorite though, is the ease of the templating system...so quick and easy to create custom templates!

Cons

You do need to know some coding in order to really tap into the potential that the Joomla CMS has...but even if you're going for simple, it's a great tool to use for building websites.

### "Content Management System for Building your Websites"

August 7, 2020

4.0

It is multilingual as it is beneficial for those who do not know the English language. More than 75 languages are supported in it. You can use it on any device from anywhere as it is a responsive website. It is updating its functions frequently along with their many useful features. It consists of two-factor authentication as security is essential when you are creating a web-based platform. It welcomes volunteers throughout the world to contribute their knowledge in it.

Pros

It allows you to build influential websites and application. Thousands of free extensions, templates and themes are embedded in it which helps the user in customizing their websites and applications as needed by their desires. Multiple platforms are using it for fulfilling their purposes which includes corporate websites, portals, websites of small businesses, intranet, extranet, nonprofit websites, educational websites, family homepages, e-commerce, online reservations, websites for schools etc.

Cons

If you compare it with other platforms it consists of limited functions and options otherwise it has various useful tools embedded in it. It may slow down your website if your website is large in size and have too many visitors. It has a variety of plugins and modules but some of them are not free and you have to pay for them.

### "Publish in a portal without knowing programming"

January 15, 2019

5.0

It's a simple content handler and you can achieve great things with that tool and the appropriate knowledge.

Pros

In my work I must upload and review press releases on a web page created in Joomla before being published; with this tool it was really very simple, at first I did not have a text editor, the webmaster installed a plugin and it was like. Use Word or Writer, which simplified the work when styling, changing fonts, inserting images. Little by little I got involved with Joomla to improve the page, in terms of banner layout, add a news slider, add the twitter on the home page, among other details always with the support of the technical team and thus a simple, elegant page. One detail that I found interesting is that it is free software and that is why we can download the functionality we want and with the help of someone who has mastered the programming part, it starts to work quickly.

Cons

My knowledge in the technical area is scarce, the essential to live with technology, I do not know the world of web programming so it was an impediment when configuring some changes to the page that required to see the source code, there I had to depend on the technical staff.

### "Create a Website for yourself"

February 14, 2019

3.0

have found this to be a useful tool for creating websites for local offices thereby saving money as the website were created by the local IT team compared to outsourcing the website developer. A website allowed us to put the local offices on the map and also giving people an idea of what we are doing in the fields

Pros

They give free templates that you can use for creating your first website. You can use those for learning purposes. Joomla templates are easy to use and there are lots of templates that can suit any website that you may want to create. It is also easy to install

Cons

they make you pay for some plugins which might be a drawback for those that would have chosen free template

### "Joomla - Free and Open source"

October 21, 2019

4.0

It has been so satisfying to build with this exceptional CMS. It has all the bells and whistle needed and much more, making it truly the Apple of CMS.

Pros

Joomla is a free and Open source content management system (CMS) used mainly for creating and displaying web contents. Joomla is probably the most robust CMS on the market right out of the box giving you that peace of mind from the start. Joomla has over 8,000 extensions available to add functionality on top of functionality, making it as complex as needs be or simple as wants be, so whenever there is the need for more, Joomla has it covered. Joomla is down right one of the easiest to install and update CMS on the market, making it one of the most easiest to manage with little to no hassle at all. Joomla is designed to work with you and mostly for you; therefore, their content management process is simplified which makes creating content as simple as needs be. With Joomla, if you want control, you've got control. Joomla places you completely in the drives seat with advance access control, allowing you to take full control with zero restrictions to make thing happen the way your intend it to. When it is not quite what you want or expect, you can always Override the defaults and customize to your liking without a ton load of advance code. Last but not least, Joomla is super secure so you and your client can feel at easy when building with Joomla.

Cons

Some may say that the UI is a bit too advance compared to others which makes it complicated to build with.

### "Joomla is a Good tool, but Wordpress does offer more. "

April 23, 2022

My experience was some poor since Joomla requires to take a long road to mange easy tasks. I stop using the platform while I finding myself striving to get some critical integrations with different platforms.

Pros

Open Source System Good for blog entries Easy to install

Cons

There are not many third party integrations The community of users isn't big. Customizing any website requires a lot of work and there is few an little quality premade layouts available.

### "Su era pasó"

May 9, 2023

3.0

### "Joomla!"

June 9, 2020

3.0

Overall, Joomla! just wasn't for me. I've used a few other softwares for website development and I would choose them over Joomla! anyday.

Pros

I have to say that there isn't much I enjoy about Joomla! I've worked with many other website platforms and this one is not my favorite. I would say that the thing I liked most about the software is that it offers many templates and is a great starting point for small businesses with a smaller budget.

Cons

I feel like Joomla! is not ideal for people who do not have a full background in computer programming. There's a very large learning curve to be able to fully access all that Joomla! has to offer. There is not a lot of possibility for personalization without coding and some templates and versions are not mobile friendly.

### "Great web site builder"

June 10, 2020

Save time, for free and easy to use.

Pros

Easy, fancy, fast web site builder that dont required to have programming skills. I think its the best solution for people who want to create their own web-site and dont spend money to paying others, it also allows you to do it very smoothy and quickly.

Cons

Didn't find any drawbacks due to this tool. I created my web-site to spend only one day, and it looks perfectly, works very fast and was really awesome. It is so convenient to manage your website as Joomla has Admin Dashboard page where you actually can do everything to configure a web-site.

### "Great CMS, with a great responsability of privacy for users"

November 24, 2019

5.0

Complete CMS from the first installation, it really grew up in the last years! I ported already one wordpress site :-)

Pros

As any other CMS it installs in minutes, not even seconds, but its asking about tracking, its asking about privacy, by default it manages user requests pretty good! WordPress can learn from this. The default editor in Joomla is rich, very rich and is not stripped of like you see in other CMS systems where you have to install add-ons to have the full functionality. Of course you can disable the editor and go full with HTML content yourself. A simple website with a little banner, contact form and some company info, with your choosen template from the integrated installer is done in no-time and you don't need experience.

Cons

The editor is great for me and I love it, when creating pages(articles) but maybe you can also create a lite version of the editor for people who want to copy/paste from word? There is up to now no default way to enter a youtube ID for easy publishing a youtube video or maybe I am wrong, but can not find it, of course you can add an embed link, but users are not always aware of how to do this.

Reason for choosing Joomla

For every client you have the perfect fit, but more and more is moved to Joomla, mainly because of modulair the management page is these days and how easy you install extensions., Thanks Joomla TEAM!

### "Joomla vs. Drupal: That's what it really comes down to for your website."

July 19, 2018

4.0

Joomla is a great CMS for websites, and you can integrate it with other platforms to really get your integration going. Be prepared for some design help, and a bit of programming help, compared to simple 'website builders' or even Wordpress, if you need a bigger and more complicated and interactive website.

Pros

Wordpress rules the Internet. Then there is Joomla and Drupal. Wordpress started as a blogging platform and has slowly morphed into a CMS. Joomla started life as a CMS (content management system). Joomla is very powerful, but has a steeper learning curve than Wordpress. But many companies will need the added power of Joomla. It isn't as 'easy' as Wordpress, but if it's developed properly, you can get a much more powerful website out of it. And in today's business environment, with eCommerce, marketing and everything needing to be integrated, Joomla is a great way to do that! Also, there is pretty good online support for Joomla. And I'd have to say Joomla's community is better than Drupal, but not as busy as Wordpress. So if you have a developer on staff or on retainer, and they're familiar with Joomla, you can get amazing results!

Cons

We tried implementing Joomla for a few specific reasons (basically we couldn't get what we wanted from other platforms without a lot of paid customization). We know there are plenty of websites running Joomla, and plenty of people love it. In many ways, it comes down to what you're familiar with and what you like. For us, though, the user and admin interfaces in DRUPAL were easier to learn than Joomla (especially the 'new' Drupal 8). So, the backend of Joomla could use some refinement, in our humble opinion.

### "Free, Open-Source, and Community Supported!"

February 15, 2019

4.0

Joomla has been really easy to use in my environment. I have never struggled with the initial configuration and have always been able to get helped around the implementation of plugins. My sites are lightweight and do not over-utilize the resources available on my servers.

Pros

What I like the most about Joomla is the administration GUI; it makes you feel that you are immersed in a video game. Working on websites feels like leisure, and not the work that it actually is. Joomla is also really well supported by the community and almost all the issues I have ever had were solved by members of the community who could point me in the right direction. Joomla, being open source, leaves me feeling secure, knowing there isn't blatantly malicious code spamming my users.

Cons

What I like the least about Joomla is that, being the second most popular CMS on the net, it doesn't have the same size plugin community as WordPress, and thus it is sometimes difficult to find plugins that compare well with their WordPress equivalents.

### "Joomla is (probably) very capable, but in a world of Squarespace & Wix, probably not worth it."

October 29, 2019

1.0

Full disclosure: I am not a web designer. If I were, I might have had an easier time with this. Joomla is free, so at least there's that. but I would rather pay for a solution that is functional and easy-to-use and does what I need it to do than have a free one that doesn't work for me.

Pros

Joomla is an extremely flexible solution, offering a back-end framework over which you could build (theoretically) any kind of site you want to.

Cons

That flexibility comes at a cost. in order to use it effectively, you have to have a fair amount of knowledge, both about Joomla itself as well as the phpmyadmin platform. The update process (post for Joomla itself and for plugins) is clunky, when it works at all.

Reason for choosing Joomla

Joomla is what my organization was using when I started. We use Squarespace now.

Pros

It is a very agile website creation and content management platform with various opportunities. There are thousands of modules and plugins to customize your site to the maximum.

Cons

### "Powwerfull but not user friendly"

December 1, 2020

5.0

I only ever use this in large and complex systems with large user/clients bases. The data is very structured and not everything packed all in just one or two tables and you need constantly join tables to get just one information. This is a system to use for something like real estate with massive of data that need to be pulled from the database very quickly.

Pros

This is a very powerful system with great data model and database structure. Everything is well separated in the database and easy to optimize. File and folder structure is also very clear and structured. This is the system to use if you have a large client/user base need different access roles.

Cons

This is a developer system. Standard user will find this very complicated and complex. Its not user friendly and the concept are very powerful but very technical.

Alternatives considered

[WordPress](https://www.capterra.com/p/131687/WordPress/)

Reason for choosing Joomla

The data model where everything is in one table with joins to a second or even third table is very slow for real estate. The property details page has so many data that WordPress requires a few hundred data queries. While Joomla does this all in just one.

### "Joomla is an amazingly versatle way to build great websites fairly easily. "

January 19, 2018

5.0

Its versatility and flexibility make Joomla a great product to work with once you get your head around how it works. There are plenty of tutorials to help the process so it doesn't take long.

Pros

I love the versatility of Joomla - its ability to make your website anything you want it to be. I have been using it since its inception and being free to start off with is a big winner, and many of the addons are free, so it doesn't take much to set it up and get going. There is a wealth of information available to help you and lots of support groups to join to help you get the most out of the product. I believe Joomla leads the way in many web design standards and is a world class product produced and maintained by a talented and dedicated team of volunteers.

Cons

Sometimes it is hard to sift through all the info in forums and support sites to find out what you need, and because it has evolved so rapidly, there is a lot of stuff out there from older versions that slows down searches.

### "Joomla 3.9"

January 14, 2020

4.0

With the help of this CMS, I trained a dozen people during my time working in the ministry. The workers had almost no experience with CMS systems and especially with administration work. Also, using the Joomla program, I organized Internet support for the political party NEP in Tuzla for the 2006 elections. Wide implementation and ease of implementation is its advantage.

Pros

Just some are: great user interface, ease of use, menu associativity, number of options, speed, great back-end access. Ease of use and ability to use for a variety of purposes. I personally used it for over 4 years in the Ministry of Defense F BiH and as a freelancer at a localhost. Lots of wonderful template. Regularly updated free versions and templates. All the Joomla templates are SEO friendly, no bugs, with Google Data Structure and Validation.

Cons

CMS does not have any significant disadvantages that are worth mentioning, my opinion.

Reason for choosing Joomla

I have a very long experience in web design, from the first HTML code, Dreamweaver, Drupall ...... so I immediately noticed its benefits.

### "Joomla! Powerful and demanding"

February 10, 2021

3.0

Problems: we need to communicate to thousands of sailboat racers in the Lake Michigan area. Benefits: we are able to have our complicated organization materials held in one place.

Pros

I like that it can handle a very complicated and historic web site.

Cons

I dislike that the WISYWIG isn't true. I dislike it is difficult to change fonts and have them hold as designated. I dislike that the PayPal plugin for it fails too frequently. I dislike that there's a color change line in the body of the web page for no good reason (light blue to a slightly darker blue). I dislike how hard it is to restructure the page--you can't just drag and drop files and have the web links update. That has left structure from previous webmasters in place and there's a lot in the hierarchy that is confusing.

### "One of the best CMS out there"

September 30, 2020

5.0

Great, i would recommend it to any CMS/WEB dev who is starting their jobs to try Joomla. It can be simple install and use it solution but also it can be used in complexed enviroments as offline webserver with LAMP, WAMP or as VPS or shared hosting solution.

Pros

Modules aka plugins. I had a task to replace custom made web app with 0 documentation for 90 people shift management. Html code was unreadable. After 2 weeks of trial and error i gave up and went to install Joomla with OSG Courts reservation. After few hours of tuning i finished my job without need to html/php code anything. I found forum helpfull and community eager to assist. Based on this experience, i continued to use Joomla on many different side projects over the years.

Cons

Sometimes fragmentation of CMS is too high. But later version fixed that. It was tedius sometimes to maintain web projects on sub par hosting providers.

### "CMS ready for everyone's needs"

November 9, 2018

4.0

I've been using Joomla for more than 10 years. It sneaked trough technologies and web development, and yet, stayed on the marked as a great Open Source project. Even though that its legacy makes new, cutting edge web technologies hard to use, it still can offer great potential for customized web sites that require CMS.

Pros

Joomla, as web CMS platform allows you to build modular and dynamic Web site. It is possible to use many finished modules and add-ons, but you can even program your own. Having that option available, Joomla can be right fit for everyone who requires quick and affordable web site, that is fully adaptable and configurable.

Cons

Joomla has a lot of legacies from php world. You need to care about frequent updates and potential exploits. It is possible, but pretty much complex to set automatic update for the CMS on all web hostings, as well as for the modules. Because of that, for complex web sites, and for enterprise solutions, Joomla is nowadays just not proper fit.
