### "Concrete is only as strong as the mix."

February 16, 2021

5.0

I used to build \*all\* my sites in Concrete5 version 5.6. That was when third party support was the most active. With the release of version 7 and continued in 8, that was severely reduced due to new addon requirements and some developers not wanting to re-write their products. In addition, Portland Labs had abandoned their eCommerce and discussion board addons, leaving some site designers high and dry, until the e-commerce function was added by the open source Community Store. I am hoping with the soon-to-be-released Concrete CMS (version 9), the third party situation will begin to improve again, I would be happy to return to the fold.

Pros

What's not to like about Concrete5? It's intuitive, comprehensive in feature set, easy to set up, easy for clients to use, responsive, adaptable, and secure. The user community is supportive, helpful, and really, really smart. It has a lot of functionality built-in that you would need to add in apps like WordPress and Drupal. Licensing addons is unique because it is developer, not client, centered, so you could re-assign licenses and reuse addons and themes. So far, great!

Cons

Unfortunately there is no substantial developer ecosystem, which makes a great product even better. Not enough themes and addons for working with multiple clients, no way to test addons prior to purchase, unless you purchase and then return the product (which would really annoy me if I was a developer). As a site designer, it would be to your advantage to be comfortable working with code. File Manager could use some streamlining and speed. Many templates and addons have been around for a long time, and may be in need of updating to meet current web standards.

Reason for choosing Concrete CMS

At the time, it was the best CMS choice for both myself and my clients. A true CMS, not a blogging app, built for developers but keeping end users in mind as well.

### "User Friendly Website CMS"

February 11, 2020

5.0

I was able to come into my position having past experience with WordPress and easily figure out how to use Concrete5.

Pros

I like how modern and user friendly this content management system is. Many features are drag & drop so even a novice can create a web page, but there are robust capabilities that can be coded in as well.

Cons

I would have liked other options for viewing files, specifically images. And increased ease of navigation through the back end of the website.

### "Amazing and really well thought out CMS. Works out of the box"

February 16, 2021

5.0

This is now my go to CMS, I don't need to keep going and installing updates to keep it secure like WordPress, none of my site have ever been hacked. The feature set out of the box is perfect and you don't need to get loads of extra plugins.

Pros

Amazing and really well thought out CMS. Works out of the box, easy to setup and is packed with features so you don't need loads of plugins. Great for editors and very good for developers to build off. The code base is excellent. This has been design with the basic user in mind, the UX and UI is very well thought out and being able to edit content wihtin the page without having to go to a backend is very valuable. The team behind this CMS is constantly improving and updating it but not just fixing bugs, really user improvement. The community that supports it is vast and there is always someone on the forums to help you out.

Cons

There is not much to dislike, some of the documentation needs cleaning up for really development heavy code but it generally is a well made CMS with very little flaws

### "Powerful Site Builder"

November 18, 2019

5.0

Concrete5's page-centric approach makes this an easy win for custom websites. In page editing overcomes editor's apprehension. Site admins pickup basic page creation and updating quickly. Page versioning gives them confidence to make changes knowing they can be easily rolled back. File management is familiar. C5's use of MVC architecture gives developers complete control over the end solution. Theming is straight forward. Adding custom block-types views is easy for even new devs. And C5's "single page" types can leveraged for powerful front-end and back-end solutions. "Express Objects" in recent versions of C5 is a welcome and powerful addition. In short Concrete5's approach to CMS makes sense.

Pros

Concrete5 is incredibly easy to theme. Adding page templates is straight forward. "Single Page" types cover extensive customization.

Cons

Documentation can be limited. Caching is occasionally overbearing\*. Scheduling pages or page versions is not consistent\*. (\*may be server related)

### "Une bonne expérience utilisateur"

February 16, 2021

5.0

Concrete5 me permet de me faire gagner du temps sur la maintenance et les mises à jour des contenus du site.

Pros

### "Great CMS for 80% of websites on the web. "

July 29, 2019

4.0

Pros

Concrete5 ease of use for the end user, is its clam to fame. Simple to learn on page editing and the ability to build out more complex pages.

Cons

From a development stand point, concrete5 can be hard to use for 3 or more developers on a project. There is no syncing process between local development environments and remote environments this can cause issues on large projects. Also scaling the CMS for very large project (250+ plus pages) might be an issue however, that is more of dev-op issue then a CMS problem.

Response from Concrete CMS

July 30, 2019

Thanks for the great review Wayne, We regularly use bitbucket/github to collaborate with large teams on concrete5 projects and it works very effectively. We've also got sites that are serving well over 10m page views per month by just turning on full page caching and storing some assets in S3, all very easy with concrete5.

### "Concrete5 Easy to use"

September 13, 2019

5.0

It's easy and fast to post, edit, and update. The menus are comprehensive and simple and makes keeping your site running easy.

Pros

It's intuitive - the block system is much easier than Wordpress. This power is in the simplicity - but you can make it as complex as you need with add ons. It's much easier to organize your site with Concrete5, also.

Cons

There may be fewer add ons than Wordpress options? But I can't say for sure.

Alternatives considered

[WordPress](https://www.capterra.com/p/131687/WordPress/)

Reason for choosing Concrete CMS

The block system, and the menus. Wordpress has such a steep learning curve, concrete5 is far easier to get your footin.

### "Concrete5 is the Best Content Management System for Small to Medium Sized Businesses"

August 28, 2019

5.0

We can build a beautiful, fully functioning website in a minimal amount of time and then train the client on how to manage their website with concrete5 in under an hour.

Pros

Concrete5 is very easy for users to learn. It is intuitive. With just a minimal amount of training, non-technical users can manage a fairly complex website. Also, development is made easier than concrete5. Creating custom templates, extending concrete5 and designing for it is very simple.

Cons

Community isn't quite as large as Wordpress so there aren't as many plugins/add-ons for it.

Reason for choosing Concrete CMS

Much more intuitive to use, building themes has more flexability and extending concrete5 is much faster to develop for.

### "The greatest CMS"

April 17, 2017

5.0

As a web developer, two considerations are important when chosing a CMS. The first is the codebase, the quality of the core code. It technically up to date, well structured and the security is up to date. The second point to take into consideration is the usability for the user of a CMS. concrete5 has a very well thought and designed "In Page Editing" feature which makes it easy also for non experienced users to create and maintain their website easily. I can highly recommend concrete5 as a very powerful yet easy to handle CMS

Pros

CLean & good code structure, Easy to create a website.

Cons

### "Amazing Website Editing Experience!!! "

November 4, 2017

5.0

Open-Source with MIT License, soure code provided and is free, many blocks available and it can easily be modified to have different look and feel.

Pros

Drag and Drop editor, customization of blocks and layouts is a piece of cake. Really don't think that I would live without this software.

Cons

No mature ecommerce package available for this software, there is package but is outdated. It could have an ecommerce package that would but as awesome as the CMS.

### "Intuitive, Easy Changes, Modern"

February 20, 2021

5.0

I've used Concrete5 for two websites. One was for the Massage and Bodywork world and the most recent is for a Blog/Writer/Editor site. Its features are simple and easy to accommodate both types of sites.

Pros

It's versatility with blocks, stacks, add-ons, file sets, tree links. Wonderful to get the technical creative juices flowing!

Cons

Incomplete documentation. While it's largely 'computer intuitive' I still needed to go through some tutorials and documentation to get 'under the hood' understanding...

### "Great CMS"

March 4, 2021

Projects reach from standard websites that need CMS-functionality to portals with a lot of individual customization

Pros

It has a wide range of features and can be easily customized and extended. Concrete5 serves as a framework.

Cons

It is not known very much in Germany, so it might happen that you have discussions in the selection process and have to prove more than with other systems that this CMS is the right choice.

For secure and well-written code, and a solid, logical module approach, this is a unique solution, and has been reliable for many years already.

### "A brilliant CMS solution for the real web developer"

December 17, 2018

5.0

Pros

If you're a web developer, this is a powerful solution for building a content management system without tricking a blog into being a website and without building a solution from scratch.

Cons

It's not as quick to get up and running as say a WordPress site, but the customizability and efficiency of not having to trick the system to do something it's not really made for is well worth it.

### "Concrete5 has all you need to get the job done!"

August 20, 2019

5.0

We've been using Concrete5 for many years for one of our youth summer camp programs. I have very limited website management/design experience. But I find that Concrete5 has easy to use interface that allows me to change and update pages with little to no issue. In all the years we've been using Concrete5, there have been no major issues that would make me considering using different software. Very happy with this software!

Pros

Easy to use Updated regularly Free Customer resources for issues

Cons

If I were to pick ANY con, it would be that there isn't a more customer service. But I've never felt like any issue I've had didn't have resources to solve the issue.

Reason for choosing Concrete CMS

Free... we are on a very limited budget. Concrete5 allowed us the freedom to use our own website design offers us plenty of helpful plugins to grow the capabilities of the website, if necessary.
