Pros I like that it provides me a guide and/or targets that helps me align with my current suppliers and potentially get substantial cost savings Cons That i have to wait for my engineer to pull drawings and provide me the should cost. The support teams have generally been very helpful. I also see the tool improving with each update. Pros aPriori is a very robust software and capable of intensive customization. It has been relatively easy for me to adjust processes or create new ones based on site requirements. The search CSL, breakpoints, in-scope formulas, and other built in tools make understanding cost model logic easier. They also aid in making adjustments or creating new logic. Cons Costing can sometimes be very slow depending on assembly sizes. Running a deep cost on some assemblies can take several hours. Review Source TS Tucker S. Cost Estimator Plastics Used the software for: 1-2 years ### "aPriori - Quoting friend" November 17, 2021 5.0 Pros I am a user of aPriori so I cannot speak much on the implementation of this product but I can speak on how this has help me in my everyday job as a quoter for Plastic Injection Molding. Using this software, I can analyze the geometry of a part and in minutes have an estimate on how much a mold may cost. There are many manual variables you can adjust to produce a more accurate representation of your overall cost, quick response time, and many reports that can be generated after the fact. This saves me days working on certain quotes and gives me more confidence in my work and quote being as accurate as possible. Cons No real big cons, in my opinion. The split screen UI is goofy at time but can get adjusted to your own liking. Would be nice to see some additional viewing features for the 3D part being displayed, section view specifically. I just have to check and correct if I have other preferences in terms of process routing and that's it! Pros The support that the software is giving to the Cost Engineers is one of the most important parts of our daily work. It's easy to use, easy to understand the processes and easy to make changes in a great diversity of commodities. Cons There are some processes that are not shown in the customizable routing. They are useful for approximating material and manual labor costs, as well directing simplification of mechanical designs. Likewise, they are able to sort and indirectly recommend the most cost effective and manufacturing methods and materials for the product. Cons Though the software are useful for catching errors, it does not necessarily provide specific feedback as to how to incorporate better designs (e.g. only able to point out but not able to recommend a bend radius). aP Design itself is a good quick costing tool but is far inferior to aP Pro, which has many more features but costs more to utilize, even though it should be in a Design/Mechanical Engineer's repertoire. Pros Detailed exploration of all the cost elements that go into the manufacture of a part. Cons With being a gas turbine manufacturer that procures significant quantities of raw forgings and castings, it is my experience, that as these are often times dependent on the manufacturing facility process routing, aPriori may not lend itself to accurately representing the cost of producing these raw components. Pros I am a member of the implementation team and have worked with many costing software packages over the years. I will say aPriori is the first company that feels like a costing partner vested in the success of our initiative rather than a costing software supplier that provides a service and then disappears. Cons The software is great and relatively intuitive. I believe strides could be made in the user based costing spaces to simplify costing where 3D information is not available.
