Workamajig began over 25 years ago as an operations and technology consulting firm to creative shops. But the available software just wasn't serving our clients needs. Pros: The recent upgrade to Workamajig Platinum has shown a lot of improvements. The features are more user friendly. We use it to manage our projects with the design/creative team. So this is a way for the design team to track their workload and the marketing consultants can submit their projects and get schedules set-up. Also nice to track exactly when and what messages have been communicated about a project, it's nice to have a reference point in case a deadline gets missed. Our admin on the tool was very happy with the customer service and they even made some specific improvements based on our requests.

Cons: User interface still feels a little clunky, it's not as streamlined and intuitive as it could be. Not a lot of automation, you have to take a lot of time to set every project up correctly and move it through the process. The app its self is also very slow.

Overall: Tracked communication and set schedules when working with design team. Easy to see where your projects are at in the process.

Pros: project management, association with a specific campaign, tracking vs. not tracking, clearly see who owns what in each process

Cons: hard to navigate, a little clunky, don't like having to press 'screen' to refresh a page, or to use as the 'go' button

Pros: The scheduling and the staff task calendar are invaluable to the agency. We work on various teams and various projects, and can see how much work each person has scheduled at any given time. Also love using for client estimates and POs.

Cons: At times it can be a little tricky to navigate around. We are migrating to the platinum and that seems to help. Not too much that we dont utilize or like with the product.

Overall: Keeps our agency on track with the multiple projects we have at any given time.

Pros: I can quickly see what projects/tasks I have due and easily track the hours I've put into a project.

Cons: The collaboration function is lacking. Also, once I click off on a task it's hard to find a project again. It would be better to see open projects as a whole, rather than just current tasks.

Pros: This product is up and coming. It has a lot of great features but not everything but their developers are currently developing more and more each day. If you are a customer you can put in requests for how you want things to work and they submit them as tickets to their developers to consider.

The software has a lot of features already that you can use and are adding more each release (about once a month).

The customer service is great and the software is very very reasonably priced.

Cons: The current system requires manual work on our part in some cases to accomplish things that used to be automated in the system we used to use. The manual work is time consuming for us.

Since the developers are currently working on the product the system does have some bugs and we discover them occasionally and have to work around them until Workamajig can fix them.

Well priced and helpful team but software doesn't have all functionality we wanted

Pros: The software has a lot of features, which is great. They have a lot of versatility and are still making changes to their software as they build it so if you recommend something they will often put it in to a release.

Their training team is awesome. We had trouble at first and asked for some changes and they made them immediately and we were able to make a lot of progress and got the help we needed.

The system has a great, modern UI, and allows us to get the work done we need to while staying organized with our projects.

Cons: The features we need are available but often they take more manual work to accomplish than the previous system we were using. This system is much cheaper, which is amazing and one of the things we were looking for, but the additional manual work ends up costing us in soft costs and employee time.

Pros: The software is very user friendly and if something is not working quite right for you, the support team is great to work with and they help you figure out a work around. Sometimes they even take your suggestions to make an upgrade so it will work the way you want it to.

Cons: It's flash based so it will not work on iPad, but they're introducing Platinum to fix this issue. The transition to Platinum will be a challenge, but well worth it in the end.

I'm a contract designer who found Workamajig very useful and easy to use.

Pros: It's easy to learn and use. I've used other project management software in the past that was convoluted and extremely frustrating. With Workamajig, I was able to find jobs quickly and as well as easily use other helpful functions. I work in a different department now where I don'y use any project management software. My comments are based on 9 months of previous experience. When I had issues with the software, an on-site administrator helped me.

Cons: I haven't used the product in several months. I don't remember the issues that caused problems. Although there were issues, overall I was pleased with how it worked.

Overall: I was able to work with other team members to easily and effectively track approvals, and in general manage jobs, as they were being worked on.

Overall: Before workamajig our company really did not use our project management software regularly. This software was easy to learn and implement. The result is a increased efficiency and cost savings.

Pros: In most cases it is very simple to figure out, so I would consider it very user friendly.

Cons: I cannot delete employees or contacts once they have left the company; that I can only inactivate them.

Overall: I am one of those individuals that know this software package can do more than I even know about, but get too involved in other projects to really understand and use everything it has to offer. It is fairly intuitive, but when I have problems a quick email to Marlene and she helps me resolve the problem very quickly.

Pros: Ease of use once you get used to it.

Cons: The deliverables not having review options, but that is being fixed

Overall: I was hesitant at first as it looked like a lot to take in and start using when our company implemented it. But with some excellent training we were using it and it was a lot easier to use than I first thought. I really see the benefits of it and glad our company decided to use it. Would definitely recommend it.

Recommendations to other buyers: I think it is great and can't think of any at the moment but enjoy using it more than I thought I would and glad our company implemented it.

Pros: Seems fairly flexible and doesn't put up a lot of barriers to getting my daily work done. It's fairly intuitive and simple on common actions unlike some systems (Oracle... yuck).

Cons: Sometimes not responsive to action/inquiry requests. Will have to request multiple times to get the action/request/inquiry handled. I don't know if that is because of it being an internet-based platform or not.

Overall: Most of the functions in Workamajig are fairly intuitive. Some of the updates improve one thing and reduce the functionality of another. This is my first experience with an internet-based platform system. Sometimes I have to repeat actions several times to get it to work. Is this due to an internet platform? Overall Workamajig is a good product.
Customer Service can be very helpful sometimes, and very dismissive at other times.

Overall: I enjoy using Workamajig. I like that it's an all in one system. I like that the traffic, project management, AR, AP, time tracking and so one are all in one system and all work together. I also like how easy things can be adjusted. I like to tell new users, don't worry about making a mistake, there isn't anything you can do that we can't fix. Other systems that I have used are not that user friendly.

Recommendations to other buyers: I think it would be great to have continuing education webinars/training sessions that users could take to learn things that maybe we don't know it does.

Pros: The estimate and job oepning system

Cons: The workflow/project schedule tool

Overall: I've utilized many project management systems throughout my career and I really enjoy Workamajig. Although there is a bit of a learning curve, the internal training really helped. I find that it is now quite a bit easier to use than some of the other project management systems I have worked on in the past. The timesheet entry, job opening, meeting/calendar and budget/estimate tools are what I use the most as a Sr. Account Executive. I find the project/workflow scheduling a bit hard and clunky to use, so I tend to just make schedules on my own. The unpredictability of project timeline changes also makes workflow/schedule a daunting task.

With that said, I overall really enjoy using workamajig and feel its very functional and easy to use.

Comments: I have used Workamajig to help run and grow our agency for approximately ten years. I have to tell you that I love the product and credit it with helping us to grow and thrive. As an agency owner, it has really helped us. That said, I really feel like their technology needs an upgrade. The interface is built in Flash/Flex and it is very cumbersome and not mobile friendly. They have changes in the works, but that has been way too long in arriving. They also need a really good mobile app to help us manage and grow. I expect these upgrades to arrive. The people are really responsive and I would highly recommend the product.

Comments: My experience with this software has been great. It is a true work horse. I have used it several different times during my career to manage and run Creative Studios. This software has enabled my project management staff to successfully support up to 350-500 active projects. Keep in mind that the software is only as good as the information that you put in it. It needs to be kept up to date on a daily basis. Workamajig does it all¿ everything that I needed to run the business and make smart decisions¿ project management, financials, reporting, time tracking, etc . The set-up, customization and training took some time, but it was definitely worth it!

Comments: We've been using Workamajig for over a year now, and with the recent release(s) of Platinum, it continues to get more and more user-friendly. If you don't have your company processes documented prior to signing up, it's probably a good idea to do that first. With the right information, you can inform Workamajig and enhance your production efficiency. It is VERY complex, but only to those who have to dig into the nuts and bolts of the software. Overall, we've been pleased with the software and will continue to use it.

Comments: We used Workamajig for a while. It's not a great fit for a small agency, though I could see it being useful for a shop that needed something really feature-rich¿it is certainly comprehensive. However, that comes with a lack of the flexibility that you see in web-based tools like Brightpod or Trello. It is not easy to get data out of it that you might need, and it tended to break or just be clunky to use.

Comments: We switched from base camp to workamajig, and it wasn't easy. We love the advanced features for billing and plugins with other billing software, but the software itself isn't great. It's constantly glitching and the previous version looked (and acted) like something straight out of the 90s. I have high hopes for the new version though!

Comments: Workamajig has all the tools you need to successfully manage client projects. The problem is that it's UX is not great and the design looks like it's from 2001. Luckily, they've rolled out a new update, Platinum, so at least they're moving in the right direction!

Comments: Workamajig is a pretty robust system which houses all of your Project Management and financial data in one place. It's a little like one of those old boom boxes which does a little bit of everything rather than one thing really well. It is tremendous value for your buck and can be customized to meet any needs you have.

Pros: The new HTML version is finally catching up to the current market leaders.

Cons: Slow development cycles. Still primarily in Flash

Recommendations to other buyers: If you have the need to integrate with a CRM, go elsewhere. The WMJ CRM is nothing to write home about.

Comments: We actually tested Workamajig at a former company I worked for. We ultimately didn't move forward with it because we found there were a lot of components we wouldn't use and couldn't justify the costs for those we could use. It's a great tool for large agencies who are looking for an incredibly comprehensive project management software with time tracking and accounting capabilities but we weren't ready for it yet.

Comments: Having worked with the Workamajig software for over ten years, I have to say the integration between projects, work flow and accounting is seamless. The report options are countless and the continuity between screens makes it very easy to train new users. The Workamajig staff has a dedication to making the product better and better which can be seen in their updates to the software each month. In addition, their support when issues or questions arise is beyond question, polite, quick and with a depth of understanding of the software similar to what you would expect your own employees to have when speaking to your clients
