### "Still of the most versatile CAT tools on the market"

January 26, 2021

5.0

Pros

Despite being literally loaded with functions that go far beyond being just a basic CAT tool, memoQ is quite easy to learn. Thanks to impeccable customer support (which is also one of the software's brightest points) implementation is not an ordeal, either. Also: multitude of quality assurance, text processing (e.g. auto alignment, term extraction) and project management functions.

Cons

It might be quite cumbersome for an inexperienced user. Requires heavy processing power (CPU and RAM) for large (or many) projects.

Alternatives considered

[Phrase Localization Platform](https://www.capterra.com/p/276186/Phrase/)[Smartcat](https://www.capterra.com/p/155255/smartCAT/)

Reason for choosing memoQ TMS

Better brand recognition and customer support, safety issues (memoQ may be deployed on premise, contrary to cloud-based competitors).

### "memoQ review"

October 15, 2025

5.0

I use memoQ for my own projects, I don't work for agencies or clients using memoQ (unfortunately). I teach M2 students how to use it.

Pros

I am working with memoQ Desktop. I love the filters on the top of Source and Target texts, the muses and Livedocs.

Cons

The fact that the desktop version is no more developed (and the missing features in TMS). The LQA reports may be tidious.

Mainly because of LiveDocs and for the feature View (now Wordfast Pro as a similar feature)

### "I have been using this tool with my own translator pro licence for more than 6 years."

October 19, 2017

2.0

Pros

Some of my clients work exclusively in the tool, so... I'm "happy" to use it. If you are in this same situation, it would be smarter for you to accept/ask for ELM licences from your clients instead of buying your own licence (like silly old me).

Cons

The interface is unintuitive, it's difficult to find what you are looking for. I recently upgraded to the latest version (8.2). In the last 3 years, I did not notice any improvements or new features that have helped my own productivity when translating with the tool. This leads me to believe that development in the last few years has been mainly focused on the PM side. Overall, I would say I am less productive when using this tool compared to other similar tools. It is painfully obvious that the developers do not use the tool to see how unproductive it is and there are very few actual users of the tool, so they cannot rely on user feedback to improve it. There is a self-congratulatory mentality within the company that is simply delusional. They prefer to surround themselves with people that pat them on the back for some reason instead of looking at criticism from users and the reality of the market. Rambling uninformative webinars. The latest versions (8.xxx) install on some of my machines, not on others. No reason or solution found so far. Had to revert to 2015 on my desktop. Their ELM licencing system distorts the market and encourages unfair competition from translators who do not want to invest in tools and agencies that prefer to work with cheaper translators that rely on them for licences etc. As things stand I do not see why I would continue to waste money paying annually for this subpar tool.

### "Excellent experience teaching with memoQ TMS"

December 3, 2025

5.0

I used memoQ TMS in a university course, and it went really well. Students had easy access to the server and the product was excellent in a pedagogical setting.

Pros

User-friendly interface, simplicity and ease navigating the server, simplified translation editor, customer support, compatibility with Mac products.

Cons

Lack of online documentation and support (written texts, web pages, video tutorials). Everything I could find mostly related to memoQ 12.0 and I was constantly confused as to which version the support documentation applied to.

### "memoq cares about their users, and that's a +"

October 20, 2025

5.0

Extremely positive. Customer support, memoq Academy and the University program are amazing assets for anyone willing to start using memoq. I am truly impressed by the dedicated team, especially \[sensitive content hidden\] , whose guidance was invaluable during the onboarding. Thank you!

Pros

Using memoq translator pro proves to be an easy-to-use and intuitive tool. What I like most is all the resources available online, which are very helpful in case of doubts or problems that may arise. Also I really appreciate the possibility of being able to easily edit a project after creating it.

Cons

I have to say annual subscriptions instead of perpetual subscriptions is a big drawback. Regarding the platform itself, I'd have liked to be able to upload a pdf file as a reference file for look-ups (I could use pdf files as reference files, but not for look-ups. Only a doc file was supported).

### "memoQ at Win & Winnow"

April 5, 2025

4.0

Overall the TMS is great, there are a lot of things to learn and improve along the process.

Pros

The endless automation possibilities the tool has, customization, new releases

Cons

The inicial onboarding trainings when implementing where not so great from our point of view unfortunately, and also, since we are integrating with Plunet, it would’ve been great to have a particular onboarding aimed to that or at least a couple of joint sessions.

### "Keep it this good, and I will never switch to anything else"

November 9, 2024

5.0

Excellent experience overall. It is miles ahead of the other CAT tools I have tried, especially the online ones (if you're still wondering whether it's worth it to use a proper CAT tool that isn't an online solution pushed by your clients, it absolutely is).

Pros

It is stable, powerful, and easy to use. I loved that it saved my translations automatically, even when my laptop crashed (which happened a lot towards the end of its life). The layout is customizable, and all the basics are covered: what is meant to work just works without it turning into a headache.

Cons

The software was a little bit visually dry at times, but I suppose it had the advantage of not being distracting. On my old laptop with a hard drive (not SSD), loading the software and translation memories was a bit long.

Switched from

[Trados Studio](https://www.capterra.com/p/151746/Trados-Studio/)

Trados is a train wreck. Too complex, counterintuitive, with options hidden deep into impossible menus. It crashes, lags, makes it difficult to share projects due to proprietary formats. I had to use it at first, because it had become the industry standard, for some mysterious reason.

### "A strong CAT tool but not the best"

January 7, 2020

4.0

UX & UI is great and every update there is a good add ups that makes the work on it even easier.

Pros

Its ability to handle the various types of Excel files is a great news of translators, especially those working in the financial area.

Cons

The price of the license is not too affordable for the freelance translators, and the enterprise version of memoQ doesn't coming with WOW-it-is-not-in-the-basic-version features that really justify its high pricing

memoq is our primary CAT tool. Other tools are used merely as front- and back-end to prepare/deliver translations with 100% guarantee of consistency with client's requirements\`

Pros

Cons

pricing of servers, QA desires improvement (too many false positives)

### "One of the Leading CAT Tools on the Market"

March 17, 2022

4.0

I have mainly used memoQ working in-house at a translation agency and as a freelancer, using CAL licenses granted to me for the length of a particular project. This feature, where agencies can temporarily assign a license to a user who does not have a license, is also a highlight that makes MemoQ stand out from its competitors.

Pros

It is a more affordable alternative to other CAT tools, is pretty intuitive and user-friendly, and has extensive QA options.

Cons

Some of the shortcuts are not as obvious as with other CAT tools, and the layout of the program is less esthetically pleasing, but these are things that you can play around within the program and customise to your liking.

### "Using Memo Q has helped me to become a more efficient and consistent translator. "

May 16, 2018

4.0

I have become a more efficient and consistent translator. Besides, the use of translation memories is a unique feature very useful to all translators.

Pros

When I first met this software I was not quite sure about its features and functionality. However, once I tried it, it changed into my first translation tool because it is very easy to use, and I am a more efficient and consistent translator. Its translation memories provide me with an excellent tool to be more accurate and fast when translating long texts.

Cons

I think the only problem is its high cost. They should offer a low cost package to independent translators.

I am very satisfied with the use of memoQ TMS and would recommend it to any translator or translation project manager who would like to improve the translation process and turnaround.

Pros

The project management user interface, the translation memory, the termbase, memoQ alignment function, how memoQ makes it easy to translate and manage projects

Cons

The fact that memoQ cannot translate texts from PDF files and drawings. A plugin need to be added to translate texts in drawings.

### "memoQ is the best Computer-Assisted Translation tool"

August 8, 2024

5.0

\- I've been using memoQ for many years for many of my translation projects, and I find it is better than its only real competitor (Trados), since it offers "out of the box" such valuable features as term extraction (for which in Trados you have to pay extra). A really valuable tool for technical and commercial translators.

Pros

\- Professional translation environment - Powerful and flexible content filtering options - Ease of setting up translation projects - Good documentation - Good and prompt technical support

Cons

\- Lack of dark mode - Somewhat steep learning curve to use it at best

### "The best CAT tool I ever used"

November 1, 2023

5.0

As a translator, I have worked with several CAT tools over the years. In general, they all look more or less the same and have more or less the same functions. The difference is how easy it is to work with and how fast you can do everything you need. For me, MemoQ is the best solution that is simple enough, it never fails and so far it easily handled every task I needed it to handle.

Pros

I like simplicity of managing different TMs, fast import-export, fast and very efficient concordance search, and easy to use interface

Cons

I would like to have option to work with several projects at the same time. At the moment, I need to close open project in order to open another one. And then to close this second one to open the first one again. This process takes time that is crucial sometimes.

### "My favourite CAT tool"

March 7, 2022

5.0

Pros

The biggest plus to me is that I can use MemoQ daily with no need to buy it, as the client who wants me to work this software provides me with a temporary licence. It may not be that intuitive if you have no idea about how a CAT tool works, but the user manual provides all the explanations you need, at least to use its basic features. In comparison to other CAT tools, I find it very easy to use and appreaciate the interface. It handles tags very vell and works well with all file types I tried (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and some PDFs as well). A few other plus: the possibility to work on online projects, to connect to server-based translation memories and termbases and to quickly add terms to the termbase.

Cons

Sometimes it's not that stable when working on online projects as it disconnects from the server.
