Pros: The functionality available is very good, and the reporting capabilities are very good if you know how to use them.

Cons: The reporting side of Sage 50 requires a lot of knowledge which is not easily transferable. Also does not work on a Mac.

Pros: Gets the job done for what I use it for. Limited functions but thankfully we currently don't need it for much.

Cons: Peachtree is good but the software is really outdated. Depending on what you are trying to do, it may not have the capability.

Comments: Good software for the price. Has some great job costing features.

Pros: This software does an excellent job of helping to track and reconcile the full accounting process. Its reporting and comparative reports are excellent. It has great controls which allow for all changes to posted entries to be tracked Job costing feature is excellent and the reports that are able to be produced work well.

Cons: The bank reconciliations have been known to frequently be malfunction because of entries that don't post properly. The solution is fairly cumbersome and requires unreconciling all past bank reconciliations. I have known some organizations who simply do there bank reconciliations outside of Sage 50

Pros: It's a very robust software; when it comes to managing finances, it covers a lot of the areas I need.

Cons: Definitely not visually appealing or extremely user-friendly. It takes some time to understand where everything is located and the steps to take to properly input information.

Overall: It does what we need it to do - track expenses and invoices. However, it's not user friendly - had our accountant not be persistent on us using Sage, we might have gone with another product.

Pros: It is extremely user friendly. It has a lot of features that prevent double entries and create an audit trail.

Cons: There are a few screens that I would like to print that do not offer that feature. Otherwise the reporting is excellent and the exporting to Excel and pdfs is more than enough.

Overall: It keeps us extremely organized and our data is easy to sort and analyze.

Pros: Quick to learn, easy to use. Can be customized to suit your needs. You can designate accounts as you like, and add them as you go. You can set up regular payments, reminders, appointments, and special notes for your clientele or suppliers. You can set up your own tax or discount codes for quick calculations. Includes easy to use payroll as well.

Cons: There can be some flipping back and forth between screens. I had difficulty remembering which menu contained which features, because there are many.

Overall: Keeps all of my accounts organized, so I don't have to work as hard!

Comments: I would still recommend this product to all small to medium size businesses for the price point that it is at.

Pros: SAGE 50 is pretty easy to use and does have some neat features for the small to medium size company.

Cons: One of the only cons that we have come across with SAGE 50 is the "Line Limitation" in making a custom financial statement. We want to make a really detailed statement for our board of trustees so that the non-financial people can understand the financial picture easier.

Comments: Other accounting software and Sage 100 and up are two plus times more expensive

Pros: It is capable to customize reports and handle a large inventory. Integrates with Sage processing to ease the process of marking invoices paid.

Cons: Sage 50 does not easily integrate with WooCommerce. Therefore, internet orders for website still need manually entered for inventory and accounting purposes.

Cons: There are so many features that its taking more time to discover all that is offered. I only need it for a few tasks so, I don't spend as much time in Sage as others.

Pros: User friendly and easy to use. I like the most recent update, it is aesthetically appealing. I also find the payroll function very easy to use.

Cons: Seems to crash often. Also, we signed up for the Sage Drive and had 1 problem after the next. Since there are too many bugs at this time, we stopped using Drive. Too risky, considering we lost over a month worth of data.

Pros: inventory control; accounting portion is ok but doesn't handle prepayments very well................

Comments: I think customer service has gone down & price has gone up since it has been bought out by Peachtree.

Pros: Sage is regularly updating and improving their software. There are many ways that you can make mistakes, but if you know what you are doing it is generally easy to fix said mistakes. The reports are a life saver when it comes time to do taxes or if I simply need to review something on an account.

Cons: You will want at least a very basic accounting knowledge before trying to use this software if you are starting from scratch.

Overall: Once I became familiar with this software and how to work my way around it, it has remained an integral part of our business accounting. The longer we use it, the more valuable it becomes. The sheer magnitude of accounting and business tracking capabilities is incredible.

Pros: The ability to view the entries posted and balances are updated real time. Good for small to medium business set ups

Cons: Batch process takes a long time to process. ( interface from bank to SAGE). We update data from bank ( revenues) to SAGE and that function takes a long while to process. Do not know how to create reports - My Reports in SAGE. The help sheets are not as clear as I would like it to be. Unable to see the invoice document ( digital) in SAGE payables and unable to see any scanned supporting document to the GL entries. E.g. if the payable files ( hard copies) are not filed, we need to hunt for the document to understand the entries posted.

Comments: I have recently discovered Xero and moved my accounting practice to this software. It is so simple with the convenience of being cloud-based. I now recommend Xero to my clients and given its simplicity (yet still very powerful) I can foresee clients taking charge of their own bookkeeping and getting rid of their existing bookkeepers.

Pros: Sage 50 was the accounting program I used to recommend to all my small business clients. Stable program that has most of the simple functions needed for most small businesses. Most used small business accounting software among my clients and almost all bookkeepers in our area use and have experience working solely with Sage 50.

Cons: It's not the most user-friendly program and has a reputation of being difficult for non-bookkeepers and bookkeepers alike to use properly. Sage has been slow to make it more user-friendly and were behind in moving to cloud options. Personal experience is Sage support is very slow to respond to queries.

Pros: Sage 50 is great for startups and SMBs looking to upgrade from quickbooks or freshbooks. The reporting functionality is a little obtuse, but it's much more powerful than what's available through other low cost solutions.

Cons: The software feels outdated and has a couple of small, annoying bugs. For example, if you connect to Sage via wifi and then ethernet, sometimes it will count that as two users logging in.

Overall: Great basic accounting software

Pros: Super easy, anyone with knowledge of using a computer can use it. Without any training, I was able to find what I need without someone showing me what to do. I am a back-up user when the office people are gone. I use it rarely and am always able to get the job done. I didnt have a clue what I was looking for. I have done Payroll, and creating Sales Orders, and Invoicing without any training. Simple system!

Overall: Simple to use, and was able to do the tasks needed to back up my accountant. I do not normally use the system I only cover for the office when they are out.

Comments: I have been on Sage 50/Peachtree for over 18 years and absolutely LOVE it. I am saddened that I have to move away from Sage 50 because it does not integrate with Service Titan, Field Edge or any other cutting edge dispatch programs in my industry.

Pros: Easy to use, clean appearance and very thorough information. Reports are easily exported to excel and can be customized.

Cons: The only con for me is that Sage 50 doesn't integrate with any industry related software programs I need.

Pros: I like Sage because it is very easy to use. I did not have to train on the software at all, I self taught myself. Also, being able to export to excel is a BONUS

Cons: If you want help from sage, you have to pay a ridiculous fee. HINT: almost everything is now free through google!

Comments: Want to do accounting? Sage 50 will do it almost as well as Quickbooks for a higher cost and with less support. It's also a lot harder to find an accountant that works with Sage and actually knows what they're doing. Want to buy and resell products? Sure, it'll mostly work. Want to use it for manufacturing/assembly? Forget it, Sage 50 can't do it properly and will cost you an incalculable amount in lost time and opportunity. No lot tracking, horrible reporting, no forecasting, only 5 user defined fields (none of which are very useful), no BOM variances, no part revisions allowed, no mass BOM update, etc.

Pros: Better than chiseling on a stone tablet, though less reliable.

Cons: Oh so many things: Database is SLOW No user workflows, cannot require approvals, checks, releases, etc. No ability to limit access to fields, or to require approvals on data entry Fields are not updatable in table views and require opening a screen for each item to update. Finding information in Sage is difficult, must search through multiple screens, reports, or excel spreadsheets to find date Order data exists in many separate views (SO, PO, WO, Invoice) without a single summary view of status. Sage50 items do not link ¿ a line on a PO, SO, Quote, etc cannot be clicked to bring up the item card. The ID must be memorized and typed into another window, wasting valuable time Data import/export from/to Sage50 is time consuming and error prone Document templates are stored locally and must be manually updated per machine on change. One time use items or BOMs have to be added to part master to never be removed which clutters system, or have to be entered as a description items which severely limits usability. Cannot open multiple records when reviewing order history (or item cards, POs, Invoices, etc). Can only have one window for each type open at a time. No system discount levels Difficult to determine lead times for an assembly, have to start a pseudo work ticket and still can only determine current part availability that doesn't show when on order parts will arrive Sage can assign a user to a quote, but has no notifications to tell that user when the quote gets converted, updated, etc No material traceability, or lot tracking Routings do not exist ¿ cannot track inventory moves from receipt to, inventory, picking, assembly, QA, etc Sage50 cannot record who received, assembled, tested, shipped, etc Cannot attach records or files to built items (final inspection reports, pictures, etc) Purchase planning is almost non-existent. Parts cannot undergo true revision. Changing the item ID results in changing entire system history Rev changes require creation of new ID and BOM update BOM changes are labor intensive BOM changes must occur individually and manually each time a part undergoes revision Variances are not allowed Cannot swap parts or revisions for a variance BOM, a complete new BOM must be created and all traveler paperwork reprinted When moving to a new revision, the old revision must remain in the BOM until consumed which results in Sage reporting the need to purchase the old revision instead of the new revision. Revision changeover must be manually watched and switched at point of consumption Sage has a field for ¿Preferred Vendor ID¿, but no additional approved suppliers Single currency only Sage50 has updates that come out every year, but they only support the previous years version for another 6 months so you're forced into an upgrade if want any semblance of support (though it doesn't really count as support most of the time).

Cons: Although easy to use, Sage 50 Accounting is not as robust as some other accounting packages. However, it contains most of the functions necessary for a small to medium office and accounting functions.

Pros: 1. Relatively easy to learn 2. Payroll function is simple and efficient 3. Reconciliations are simple

Cons: 1. Cannot find a way to save invoices and pay stubs directly to PDF on my computer. I have to print them out and then scan them so they can be saved as PDF, which is more time consuming. 2. Sometimes it is difficult to reverse a transaction or paycheque if you make an error. 3. Reports function is not as good as QuickBooks.

Comments: Sage 50 Accounting is ideal for the small business that is looking for a comprehensive, customizable core accounting solution that includes: A/P, A/R , well developedBilling, Invoicing, Inventory Management and Financial reporting. Sage 50 Accounting integration with Microsoft Excel, Outlook and PDF are some of its other features. Sage 50 Acwell-developed program that is great for the small business to keep their books organized. Sage 50 Accounting recognizes that small businesses may not need some of the more advanced features that some of its higher versions have. This is why Sage 50 features are pretty basic, providing support for tasks such as project management, costing, invoicing, reporting among others.

Pros: Easy to Use. Ease of implementation. The flexibility of financial reporting. A functional software for small uncomplicated businesses. Integration with core Microsoft applications like Excel makes a good product for analytics export into a spreadsheet.

Cons: It is very basic. And also does not have many capabilities. Finding Transactions can be a bit Tricky. Check printing has its own set of problem. Need to have a fair level of accounting knowledge to use it correctly.

Comments: I have been using this software for almost 20 years when it was called Peachtree. It is an ideal software for small business, who need a little bit more than a simple profit and loss, but ability to track costs by departments or locations. There are a lot of improvement to the latest version, which allow much easy listing and printing from different ledgers write at the input window. I like the flexibility that Sage has provided for report customization; there is no report format that Sage 50 cannot produce. However, you will need some accounting background in order to fully utilities the product, that's the only recent that I hold back the rating.

Comments: A great accounting software for all types of businesses. Easy to use and easy to learn, as a first time user I was able to use most of its functionality. Report function made it a whole lot easier to generate quarterly and end of month financial statements.

Pros: Easy to Use, adaptable to several types of business platforms, generating reports is relatively easy, affordable.

Cons: Even though it is flexible I wish some features such as the PO function can be tweaked to be able to use it to its full potential, other than that a great piece of software.

Recommendations to other buyers: Go out and buy it.

Comments: The software if fine until it doesn't function and when that happens to forget about getting a hold of the support that you pay big bucks for because the are non-existent. I have been trying for 3 days to get a call back from Support on a large issue with the software. The recording states they are too busy to take my call at this time and for me to try again at some other time. I am ready to research another software company. 18 yrs and they have only gotten worse instead of better.

Pros: A functional software for small uncomplicated businesses.

Cons: Forget support they will not help you, but believe me, they will hunt you down to get their thousands in support fees. I am beyond angry at this point and have already started researching other software companies. SO FORGET SUPPORT.

Recommendations to other buyers: Buy the software and hire a private support company because Sage cannot help you when you need it.

Comments: Sage 50 has a lot of great qualities that help with accounting, but the built in capability to track inventory could be further refined. The backbone of peachtree has helped us a lot with our financials with it's ability to link payments to purchases. However, the inventory management capabilities are not intuitive.

Pros: Ease of linking payments to purchases Making Purchases Tracking Sales Orders

Cons: The default setting for transaction dates and "assigned to" categories are not ideal Takes a lot of input to track the perpetual inventory

Recommendations to other buyers: If you are looking for a powerful accounting software with limited inventory tracking, Sage 50 works. If you'd like something more intuitive that helps track inventory, there are better options for a lower price tag.

Pros: It is similar to Sage Timberline

Cons: It severely lacks in functionality that you have with QuickBooks and Sage Timberline.

Overall: Sage 50 has the capability of being as good as if not better than QuickBooks; however, it is in desperate need of Service Techs do not have the ability to resolve issues, they send emails with links to help pages that don't resolve the problem. There is no reason why Sage 50 should be able to resolve the fact that transactions are posted in the general ledger but don't show up on the reconciliation screen. There is no reason why there isn't any capability of merging customers, vendors, etc when employees have duplicated accounts unnecessarily. The class they want you to take and complete in 90 days while working full time in a new position, is also antiquated. The classes don't coincide with the manuals which are full of errors and typos.

Recommendations to other buyers: Bring this software into the 21st century and teach the service technicians how to resolve issues instead of sending useless emails with useless links that leave the issue unresolved.

Pros: We use the reporting features of the software quite frequently and find them very valuable. When wanting to upgrade our product and support plan to add functionality, the service and tech support were very helpful.

Cons: I wish the cloud functionalities of Sage Drive were more versatile, and you could have at least 2 users working on it at the same time, rather than having one user as read-only. The reports could be more customizable, we could really use a report that shows our inventory by location. Also, I wish there was more to the customer function, allowing for Business Day-to-Day, Financials and Customer Relationship Management all in the Sage Program.

Recommendations to other buyers: If you just have a small business, with one person mainly doing the books, this software is an easy-to-use and inexpensive option. If you want more than one employee to input information you will likely have to look into a more expensive program.

Pros: This product is a great product for small to medium sized businesses. It allowed us to track over 20 different departments based on the way we structured our chart of accounts. Within those 20 different departments, we were also able to track 7 different expense categories (not accounts, groups of accounts). Reports look nice and are somewhat easy to build. Entering AP invoices does not require you know your debits or credits. Same goes for AR invoicing. Journal entries are simple enough to put in and the general ledger reporting is very clean.

Cons: We were limited based on the number of items we wanted to track. In addition to account number, department, and expense category, we were hoping to track school projects, use tax, physicals expenses, location. This forced us to do a lot more reporting in excel than we would have preferred.

Recommendations to other buyers: If you a looking for a straight forward accounting software for a small to mid sized business, this is a great option. It was always a reliable product and served our growing organization for 10+ years. It is also a very affordable option considering all you get for the price.

Pros: it is a complete program with all the info we need

Cons: It has limitations on laid in cost. Our service includes freight into our warehouse and delivered to the customer.

Recommendations to other buyers: In general it is good for a start up to a mid sized business. we seem to be too large for it now.

Pros: Its good for very Basic Accounting practice. No Customization for Manufacturing Sector. Inventory Control, Deposits Module, Basic Reports are missing. The only best thing about Sage is it creates basic financial statements.

Cons: Not easy to use, Very less improvements on each update. Requested improvements on Deposit Module ( Deposits show up on accounts receivable ??? Really) Cannot run report that shows Quote number, Order number, Invoice amount & salesperson side by side. No group accounts for allocation. No way to use multiple selection fro Customer Statements. No grouped customer statements based on terms. Very Basic features are missing. Have to maintain multiple excel spreadsheets to make sage work.

Recommendations to other buyers: Please do have a demo account based on your Industry. Use as many features as per your workflow to be confident on product that will give you efficiency rather than maintaining multiple spreadsheets.

Cons: It does not allow customization. Not very flexible

Recommendations to other buyers: Great for basic business settings but if you need something to cater for just your business you need to look into a program that can be customized

Pros: Easy to set up, easy to use, reports are easy to generate, all query searches are easy to perform, contact information is very detailed, everything can be edited.

Cons: The price. Peachtree needs a freshman version (start-up version), a sophomore version (intermediate version), a junior version (advanced version), a senior version (complete version).

Recommendations to other buyers: Buy it, take time to program it to perform every task that your business need it to do. Peachtree can handle it.

Pros: My training is accounting--I like the process and the robustness of the accounting for the price point.

Cons: It is difficult to customize reports. We are also constrained by the # of fields within the payroll module--as far as the category in which the employee worked. We also lament the lack of integration with our bank, microsoft programs etc.

Recommendations to other buyers: Be sure to compare apples to apples. Look at the reporting capabilities. Evaluate pros and cons of processing payroll in house.

Pros: Sage 50 Payroll is so easy to use. Set the recurring deductions and pay in the employee file. Come pay day, set the period ending day, review, print. Print your payroll register and there are your with holdings for the month, quarter or just the payroll. No guess work what so ever.

Cons: I like that once the employee is set up the weekly paying is quite simple. I like that I can set garnishments or employee loans to begin and end and I do not have to give myself reminder notes. Set it up once and it is done.

Recommendations to other buyers: Sage 50 Payroll is VERY user friendly and easy to use. Confidence that the pay is done correct the first time!!

Comments: They have absolutely no customer service at the end of the year, when they also force you to upgrade your current year software or you will be unable to run end of year forms like W2's and 1099's. (It doesn't matter if you have bought the "2015" tax service for the year "2015" - you still have to upgrade in order to use the software for the close out.) For some strange reason, they have decided that doing the upgrades in the month of December is a smart idea. It's not. Every year we have problems in the month of December - this year was the worst. Their upgrades affected our payroll, which then had to be done manually without their software. So the forced upgrade effectively shut our entire payroll system down, and their customer service representatives were rude and completely unwilling to do anything to fix the problem their company created.

Comments: We just got the bill for "support" for 2016 -- $150.00 per month for the web key that allows software boot. Great software -- really bad customer service. I have had to talk to them twice in the last three years about bugs in the application -- my blood pressure can't take a third call. For starters, they can never find us in the data base, when they do finally figure out who we are, they want to sell another module, or some other service, then when you ask a question, you get routed one or more other departments, none of whom can actually help. After finally arriving at Tec service the last time (an hour and 20 minutes after first calling) -- the response was "Oh yeh -- we know about that. we were thinking about fixing that in the next release -- meanwhile -- I can't close July.

Comments: As a accounting software re-seller and consulting firm http://www.futurekenya.com/ sage pastel accounting solutions have been our best selling software, its support is great, has fewer bugs and upgrades are released regularly, I would recommend any business considering to implement an ERP to choose Sage. Future Kenya is an official re-seller of sage pastels products. Contact us if you need implementation or price quotes .

Sage 50 'Quantum' Canadian is very stable but limited. No significant new features for last 4 years.

Comments: Pros:
- Sage 50 Canadian is very stable, any 'crash' is almost always a hardware or operating system issue.
- Vendor technical support is prompt and helpful.
- Uses a solid 'Enterprise-grade' back end database.
- ODBC is free, and included.
- Free SDK is available.

Cons:
- Response to bugs is to provide work-arounds
- No significant new features since 2011.
- Screen designs are stuck on 1988. Data entry fonts are unusably tiny on modern monitors, and can't be adjusted.
- Features and prior bundled software has been removed, no longer supported, or flat out disabled:
. web store integration,
. Crystal Reports,
. ACT! CRM integration
. Simply HR Manager
- Numerous limitations in the 'Quantum' version to prevent use by all but the smallest companies:
. no transaction reports show purchase order numbers,
. ship-to addresses are limited to 99,
. multiple vendor shipping addresses are not supported at all
. if using multiple 'locations', inventory reports are wrong due to wrong beginning onhand.
. Multiple shipments to / from a single invoice are not supported.
. No way to report on Purchase Order vs invoice purchase amounts or pricing.
. No reports

- Designed for Accountants, not for business operations.
. 'Job Tracking' will record what you put in, but not tell you what to bill out.
. Year end process is unnecessarily convoluted and cumbersome for the business.
. Inventory 'available' isn't displayed during invoicing, only 'On Hand'.
. Only 2 years of sales statistics are tracked - current and prior year. Since current is always opened before the prior year is completed, there is never any point in time where a comparative report is of any use.
. Canned reports are inadequate and can't be customized.
- Time Tracking to Invoicing only works if you never have separate jobs for a single client - and who wouldn't?
- Inventory statistics are broken - Quantities are correct, but adjustments rack up the statistics on number of transactions (one sale, adjusted two times will show as 5 transactions)
- Virtually all inventory, sales, and purchase detail reports show all adjusted and reversed transactions, but don't output any indicator that they are just dead, junk data.
- Few third party software integrations
- Other Sage software does not work with it AT ALL. (Asset tracking, Time & Billing, CRM)
