### "Simple, reliable backup tool that just works"

May 4, 2026

5.0

Overall, it's a great product. We've been using it for years, before it was even called Cove. Originally, we had it as integrated backup within our N-Able (then SolarWinds MSP) RMM, but switched over to Cove a few years back. Same technology, but it gave us significantly more reporting options, and made it much easier to verify backups are running across all our clients, without having to go and find each machine in the dashboard. If you're looking for a simple, cloud-native backup that you can easily manage across clients, this is it.

Pros

Cove is very easy to navigate, plenty of information available to troubleshoot, or just check the health of backups. It's always been extremely reliable for any customers we use it with, and easy to restore when needed.

Cons

For some of our larger clients, we like to be able to spin up VMs of backups to shorten downtime. Cove does have this capability, but it relies on a Hyper-V or ESXi host on-premise. With our setups, we ideally want to have a separate physical host for backups, and doing this requires some extra licensing compared to other backup solutions with appliances (usually using Linux to virtualize)

Alternatives considered

Reason for choosing Cove Data Protection

We've been using it for years, just as integrated backup in RMM. For many of our clients, it fit the bill, and migrating to standalone Cove was as easy as telling support we're ready, and they handled everything on the back end.

### "A go-to backup solution for managed environments"

April 30, 2026

5.0

Cove has proven to be a dependable, cost-effective backup platform. It delivers on the fundamentals — reliable backups, fast restores, simple management — without the overhead of legacy solutions. The occasional service stall is easily managed, and the overall value makes it an easy product to recommend.

Pros

has become a core part of our backup strategy. The setup is fast, deployment across multiple endpoints is streamlined, and the centralized management console makes it easy to monitor backup health at a glance. The lack of local backup infrastructure is a major plus — no appliance to size, replace, or troubleshoot. Restores have been consistently reliable, and recovery testing gives us peace of mind. Update and version control is handled well on the backend, so we're not chasing patches or worrying about agent compatibility. The value for money is excellent, especially compared to traditional image-based backup products.

Cons

The only consistent issue we've run into is the service occasionally stalling. When this happens, a service restart or quick reboot resolves it immediately and backups resume normally. It would be nice to see this addressed long-term, but it's a minor operational issue rather than a dealbreaker.

### "Years of use"

April 30, 2026

3.0

It was rocky at first and the technical support agents were severely undertrained, but that has gotten better over the years.

Pros

Ease of integration into the hosted platform for N-Able. It is vert easy to enable it and with some learning, the configurations are quite simplistic.

Cons

Management not getting back to you or responding. I literally have a product I wrote that solves the horrible billing you have and cannot get management to respond to anything.

### "MSP aliened Backup Solution "

May 6, 2026

5.0

Overall, our experience with has been very positive. The platform’s cloud-first approach, centralized management dashboard, and high backup success rate have made backup management far more reliable and less stressful compared to previous solutions we’ve used. The automatic agent updates and simple onboarding process for new devices have also significantly reduced administrative overhead for our team. While there is room for improvement in the recovery experience for offline or decommissioned devices, the platform as a whole has proven to be dependable, easy to manage, and well-suited for organizations looking for a modern backup solution.

Pros

What I like most about is its cloud-first backup approach. We no longer have to worry about backups failing because a local backup destination becomes unavailable. Having everything managed through a single online dashboard is also a huge advantage, as it gives us a clear global overview of all backup jobs and device statuses. We’ve experienced a very high backup success rate, which gives us confidence in the platform’s reliability. The process for adding new devices is simple and efficient, making ongoing management incredibly easy. Another major benefit is that the backup agents update automatically, eliminating the need for the manual update process we had to deal with in our previous backup solution.

Cons

One area where could be improved is the file recovery process when a device is offline or has already been decommissioned. In those situations, restoring files is not as straightforward as we would have hoped. Instead of simply opening the web interface and downloading the needed file, you must load the device into the recovery console first. We experienced this firsthand when a server had been decommissioned and we needed to retrieve a file from backup. The recovery process was more involved than expected and could be simplified to make restores faster and more user-friendly.

We previously used Veeam, and while it was a solid backup solution, scaling long-term backup retention became expensive and difficult to manage. To maintain extended retention periods, customers often needed to purchase 40–50 TB of onsite storage, while we were also paying thousands of dollars for offsite storage. When evaluating other solutions, one of our biggest priorities was reducing the amount of storage consumed by full backups versus incremental backups. addressed those concerns very well by using an incremental-forever backup approach with strong deduplication. This significantly reduced storage requirements while still providing reliable backup retention and recovery capabilities.

### "Reliable and MSP-Friendly Backup Solution with Strong Day-to-Day Management"

May 6, 2026

5.0

My overall experience with was positive, particularly from an MSP operations and client management perspective. The platform was reliable, easy to deploy, and efficient to manage across multiple customer environments.

Pros

What I liked most about was how well it fit into an MSP environment while still being simple to manage day to day. The platform made it easy to deploy backups quickly across multiple client environments, monitor backup health centrally, and verify successful backups without adding a lot of administrative overhead. A few areas that stood out to me: The cloud-first architecture simplified deployment and reduced dependency on complex on-prem infrastructure. The management console was straightforward and efficient for monitoring multiple clients at scale. Backup verification and alerting helped ensure backups were actually completing successfully, which is critical in managed services environments. Restore options were flexible, whether restoring a single file, mailbox item, or a full system. It integrated well into operational workflows focused on backup success rates, disaster recovery readiness, and compliance-driven environments. From an MSP operations perspective, reliability and visibility are usually the most important factors, and Cove did a good job balancing both without becoming overly complicated.

Cons

What I liked least about was that while the platform is very streamlined, some advanced configuration and reporting capabilities felt limited compared to more enterprise-focused backup platforms. A few areas that could be frustrating at times: Reporting customization could feel restrictive, especially when trying to provide highly tailored executive or compliance reporting to clients. Large-scale restore operations could sometimes be slower than expected depending on bandwidth and recovery scope. Troubleshooting certain failed backups occasionally lacked deep enough error detail, requiring additional support engagement or log review.

[Acronis Cyber Protect](https://www.capterra.com/p/237140/Acronis-Cyber-Protect/)

Many MSPs switch from Acronis to because they want a backup platform that is simpler to manage, more predictable operationally, and easier to scale across many client environments. Better MSP-focused management experience Cove’s centralized multi-tenant dashboard is frequently highlighted as a strong advantage for MSP operations, making it easier to monitor backups across many customers from a single interface.

### "Switched to Cove Data Protection and Couldn't be Happier!"

May 4, 2026

5.0

Overall my experience with has been excellent! I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a cloud based backup solution. The installation is scriptable, and once it is installed it just works. This is one piece of the overall security puzzle that I don't have to worry about.

Pros

I switched from Axcient to Cove for my cloud storage provider about a year ago and am loving my decision! It is easy to use, reliable, and their customer support has been great! I had also used Backblaze for file based backup, and for roughly the same per-seat price I now get image based backup! Switching to was one of the best "stack provider" decisions I have made.

Cons

I do not like the "platform fee", which significantly increases the per-endpoint fee once it is added in. It is not necessarily that I don't like it, I really just don't like how during the sales process they can provide you with a per seat fee, but once you add the platform fee in that raises it to your true cost per seat. Kind of feels a bit sketchy and I almost backed out of the deal because of it.

### "Reliable cloud backup with straightforward management, but reporting and support could improve"

May 1, 2026

4.0

Overall, has been a dependable backup platform for endpoint and server protection. It is a good fit when you want cloud-based backup without maintaining local storage appliances or complicated infrastructure. The product does its core job well, especially for MSP-style environments, but better reporting, alerting, and more consistent support would make it stronger.

Pros

is easy to deploy and manage across multiple customers and endpoints. The cloud-first design removes a lot of the hassle of maintaining local backup hardware, and the interface is generally straightforward once you are familiar with it. Backup jobs are reliable, restores are easy to initiate, and it is a good value compared with managing separate backup storage, software, and infrastructure. For MSP use, the centralized management is one of the strongest parts of the product.

Cons

The interface and reporting could be more polished, especially when trying to quickly review backup status across many devices or customers. Some alerts and backup results could be clearer for technicians who are troubleshooting failures. Support is generally workable, but resolution time and depth of answers can vary depending on the issue.

Switched from

We switched because we wanted a more straightforward cloud-first backup platform that was easier to manage across multiple customers and devices. Cove reduced the need to maintain separate local backup storage and made deployment, scheduling, monitoring, and restores easier from a centralized console. The pricing and management model also fit our MSP environment better than the previous solution.

### "Review from Maple & Oakley, a private IT Managed Service provider"

May 4, 2026

5.0

Overall, very good - the support is quick and efficent and I dont have to worry about contacting other companies.

Pros

Its fully integrated with my MSP Software and RMM - N-able nSight. I dont have to worry about different portals and deploying the software to new servers is very easy. I download the installer and its done. It runs in the background and is constantly backing up servers.

Cons

Sometimes the cost can get high depending on the amount of data I am trying to backup. This can be a point of contention with the clients because I cannot quote them exactly how much the backup is going to cost until I deploy it - this is proabably the item that I dislike the moth.

### "Cove Saved My Cloud Backup Business"

April 28, 2026

5.0

Very positive. I recommend it to everyone. The clients I have shared access with also really love it.

Pros

From the onboarding to the ease of use to the interface, I was blown away at what a different and awesome experience Cove was compared to my prior provider (StorageCraft). When StorageCraft decided to totally end its cloud backup platform in 2024, I had to scramble to find a new solution for my clients, and Cove stepped in and stepped up and saved us all. The one-time restore, regular cloud DR tests and easy to read, simple daily email reporting, and nicely designed, beautiful Web UI are some of my favorite features. Integration with n-Sight also a plus.

Cons

The 365 backup has some limitations which were not a good fit for my clients. It's getting better, though. I would also like to be able to have the Daily On-Prem Standby Image option on the machines that already have Monthly DR testing activated, currently its only either/or.

### "Unethical Sales Practices, Difficult to Purchase"

March 20, 2026

2.0

We had a bad experience trying to purchase this product. In order to get pricing we had to get on a call with a rep. He presented us pricing and asked if we'd like a 30 day trial. We proceeded but in the middle of the trial he emailed pricing that was nearly double what he presented on the call. We had to exchange numerous emails with them before and reach a manager before they finally responded that the pricing presented at the outset will be honored. Then on the last day of the trial the rep sent over yet another different pricing sheet. The product looks okay, but they've made it extremely difficult to purchase. We have a hard time entering into a relationship with an organization that attempts unethical sales practices

Pros

Relatively easy, simple product. It doesn't have a lot of control or featuers, but it is simple and easy

Cons

Sale rep ethics. The sales rep tried to pull a fast one on us and the buying process has been wastful of our time, disrespectful, and frustrating

Pros

We love how easy it is to setup and get a new backup running for a customer and how the monitoring helps free up our technicians to work on other tasks. The restore process is very easy from restoring a single file to an entire server. The value we get from Cove is unmatched by their competitors.

### "Cove Backup Protection is a game changer"

May 1, 2025

5.0

Cove has significantly reduced the time we spend on backup-related tasks. Before implementing Cove, a lot of our tech time was eaten up by monitoring backup jobs, troubleshooting failures, and coordinating repairs. Now, those issues are few and far between. The reliability of Cove's backup and restore processes has given us peace of mind and allowed our technicians to focus on more strategic work, rather than chasing down errors or inconsistencies. Cove has helped us operate more efficiently, with less downtime and fewer interruptions. It’s been a game-changer for our workflow, and we highly recommend it to any IT team looking to simplify data protection while boosting reliability.

Pros

We've been using for several months now, and it has truly transformed the way we manage backups. One of the standout features is how incredibly easy it is to use—everything from initial setup to ongoing management is intuitive and streamlined. The user interface is clean and well-organized, making it simple for our team to monitor systems and quickly address any issues.

Cons

Honestly, there’s nothing about that we don’t like. It has consistently met—and in many cases exceeded—our expectations. The platform is reliable, easy to use, and has streamlined our operations in a way that’s made a real difference. We’ve had a very positive experience across the board.

### "Reliable Cloud Backup for MSPs"

April 30, 2025

4.0

We've been using Cove across multiple clients for over a 10 years. It's reliable, scalable, and the pricing structure is transparent. It fits perfectly into our MSP offering. The policy-based approach and direct-to-cloud architecture saves time and maintenance overhead.

Pros

Cove is lightweight, cloud-first, and very easy to deploy. The web console is intuitive, with centralized control over backup jobs, storage, and reporting. The ability to back up physical and virtual machines, Microsoft 365, and servers without managing local storage is a huge plus. Support response is solid and consistent.

Cons

Limited advanced scheduling flexibility. Restore speed for large datasets can be slower compared to on-premise solutions. Would love deeper integration with 3rd-party RMM tools.

### "Efficient, Reliable Data Protection for Modern IT Environments"

April 28, 2026

4.0

Overall, my experience with has been very positive. It provides a dependable and easy-to-manage backup solution that fits well in both small IT environments and MSP workflows. The platform reduces the complexity typically associated with backup management by combining storage, automation, and monitoring into a single interface. Since implementing Cove, backup consistency has improved significantly, and recovery times have been faster and more predictable. The ability to quickly deploy backups across multiple systems and monitor them from a central dashboard has streamlined operations and reduced the risk of missed backups. While there is room for improvement in areas like reporting and interface design, the core functionality is solid. Cove Data Protection delivers a strong balance of simplicity, performance, and value, making it a reliable choice for protecting critical data.

Pros

What I like most about is its simplicity and reliability. The setup process is straightforward, and once deployed, it requires very little ongoing management. The cloud-first architecture makes it easy to manage backups across multiple endpoints without needing additional infrastructure. The platform provides excellent visibility into backup status, alerts, and historical activity, which helps ensure that all devices are properly protected. Backup performance is efficient, with incremental backups reducing bandwidth usage while still maintaining strong data protection. File-level and full system restores are both quick and easy to perform, which is critical when responding to incidents. Another strong point is the value for money. Cove includes storage, backup, and management in a single platform, making it cost-effective compared to solutions that require separate storage or licensing components. Overall, it delivers consistent and dependable backup coverage with minimal overhead.

Cons

One drawback of is that the interface, while functional, can feel somewhat basic and less modern compared to other backup platforms. Some workflows, such as navigating between devices or locating specific recovery points, could be more intuitive. Reporting and customization options are somewhat limited, especially when trying to generate more detailed or tailored reports for clients or internal documentation. Additionally, while the platform works well for standard backup use cases, more advanced configuration options and granular control are somewhat limited compared to enterprise-focused solutions. Improving the UI/UX and expanding reporting capabilities would make the platform even stronger, particularly for environments that require more detailed visibility and customization.

### "Great for backups, not so great for restoring"

May 1, 2026

It is a good product for the money and everyone should be performing incremental backups for a variety of reason, not the least of is ransomware. Also with the climate of fires and floods, natural disasters represent a real danger for which backups could be a lifesaver.

Pros

It has flexible option for how often to make backups, which files to backup or avoid and the ability to create profiles containing both which can be applied to each endpoint. Also, when a backup fails, Cove will retry and generate a HelpDesk ticket in N-able helpdesk informing us of the failed backup.

Cons

While the backup function is very simple and straightforward, the restore process is complicated and requires a lot of additional knowledge to perform. I got certified in Cove for both backups and restores but I couldn't perform a restore if a incident occurred. Not so good.

### "Easy and fast SaaS backup suited for any sized business"

April 30, 2026

5.0

We have used this for over 5 years and never have to worry that our backups aren't running. When recovery is necessary it's easy and fast. We have found it to be sufficient for both small and large companies.

Pros

Incremental backups running in the background require no manual work, and our clients are never disrupted.

Cons

NOTE: this is not bad, just the least liked thing; there is a learning curve to fully deploy all the features.

### "Cove Data Protection Works!"

May 6, 2026

5.0

Overall our experience has been excellent over the past decade. When we've needed support (which hasn't been too many times), they have always bailed our fat out of the fire.

Pros

We like the fact that everything is wrapped up in one screen, file protection, Microsoft email, SharePoint and OneDrive.

Cons

There is little that we don't like about it. The worst problem we have is creating new instances, and that is small problem that shows up when we create a new backup instance. It isn't a show stopper, just not as smooth as it could be.

### "We'd hate to run our business without Cove Data Protection"

April 28, 2026

5.0

It's been a cornerstone in our service offerings for years. Even before it was named . Over the years, it hasn't always had all the bells and whistles of other BCDR solutions but recently it has really stepped up its game with all the new features and development.

Pros

The cost and the fact that it has worked every single time we've needed it is what we like the most. It's our failsafe when all other things break down (like any BCDR solution) and it has made us look like hero's time after time.

Cons

Probably the amount of System State, VSS errors that we get on so many servers. We've tried all of the fixes provided by support and we still fight with that more than we probably should have to. This typically only occurs on older servers.

### "It has quickly proven itself and is easliy mastered"

May 1, 2026

4.0

is one of the few products that everyone of my clients has installed. It has quickly proven itself and is easliy mastered

Pros

is a reliable product that I have fully integrated into my MSP business. I have grown to fully trust its capabilities, management, and development process. It is a solid and stable product that continues to expand its reach within my client base.

Cons

I wish there were more flexible recovery options, such as having multiple predetermined recovery locations for conducting recovery testing.

### "Reliable and easy to use"

May 1, 2026

5.0

Great. We've been happy with all of our Cove deployments and it's nice having a piece of mind knowing whenever someone accidentally deletes something we can recover it for them with no questions asked.

Pros

Very easy to recover machines after drive failures or even restore deleted folders to user's inbox. Only takes a few clicks when recovering emails and calendar items. Loving the M365 integration and also using device backups for many workstations and servers across almost every one of our customers.

Cons

Hard to pick something that we didn't like but I would say the restore process could isn't straight forward for the first time. However, it's easy after you've done it once before.

### "Cove Data Protection is hyper-affordable and super-effective backup for Office365"

April 30, 2025

5.0

We put it in place about 2 years ago now, and it's been consistently helpful throughout. We've recovered a number of files, emails, and accounts, and every time is just easy peasy lemon squeezy.

Pros

We use for our Office365 backups. Sadly, too few people back up cloud email, because they (mistakenly) believe that there's no point. But when a user comes up to you and tells you that they suddenly need a folder they didn't realize they deleted a few months ago, or when someone realizes a few months later that a disgruntled former employee deleted all of their OneDrive data and you needed something from it, that's when backups are vital. And Cove Data Protection does it amazingly well - and super cost-effectively as well.

Cons

We use them as an integration with N-Able, and sometimes it can be a bit confusing how their licensing structure works with respect to unpaid ex-exployees, but I dig it, and honestly their pricing is so good that we don't stress it too much.
