Pros Spiceworks Network Mapper is a great tool to auto discover your network. If you are new to an environment and want to see what’s out there, this tool will help you figure things out. Switches, Servers, PCs, and pretty much anything with a NIC card will show up and give you a clue as to what type of electronic organization you have. It works quick and is set to discover most of the time. Cons It runs all the time and can be a little taxing on the network if you don’t have a lot of bandwidth. Would start here before going to other premium software. Pros It's about the easiest software I have seen on mapping out your network. No reason to get creative, it's simple and to the point with Spiceworks. Cons You might have to redo your mapping when your network changes, not live networking and can change depending on your department needs.
