Pros: Price. Simplicity of implementation. Good customer service. The scrollmaps and polls are my favourite, and only features I use.

Cons: Potentially slows down the site. Loads the entire js even when only running a poll, so puts unnecessary load on the page speed.

Forms have nearly never worked on any of the websites I have used it on. Funnel I don't really use - I don't see the point really. Free GA will still be far better and more useful at that.

Polls have very simplistic targeting methods. Adding one or two new targeting triggers would be awesome...but they haven't released any new features in ages.

Heatmaps are still very simple with no ability of segmenting the data.

I can't complain for the really accessible prices they have been able to maintain though!

Overall: I would be surprised if there was a CRO or UX team that hasn't heard of Hotjar. It's a great little tool, especially given the price, but it doesn't allow enough flexibility to be your main on-site research tool. It's really good for starting out and doing some basic research. Sweet and simple! I guess marketers could benefit the most from this!

Pros: Hotjar has the features that a small business website manager needs but only could get by paying a ton for eight separate products. Each feature is easy to use and understand.

Cons: I would love to see more integrations, specifically with Zapier so we can automatically export reports into different systems, or for other uses.

Overall: We never have time to spend setting up other software to understand how our users are navigating our website, but with hotjar, the simplicity allows us to make it happen.

Cons: There's no specific factor I dislike about Hotjar. However, they could offer a better experience on mobile devices, allowing you to navigate and setup tests remotely.

Overall: At my company, we are trying to understand better the user behavior for certain markets so that we can adapt our product offering to better fit their needs. The insights we are able to collect using Hotjar allow us to make these changes and improve our product acceptance.

Pros: Hotjar allows you to visually see where users are going and what uthey are doing when visiting your website. This is very helpful for anyone trying to get a better grasp on what users are doing when they visit your website. The heatmap is incredibly helpful for a quick glance of the top clicked items. In addition, the user videos can be helpful to see where people are looking when visiting your website.

Cons: More features would he helpful as well as it presented in a more appealing manner. Sometimes the data can be overwhelming or hard to decipher. Making some of the data easily storable would be helpful.

Pros: I love the heat maps (desktop and mobile) and screen videos. These are very helpful. Also, I recently learned for clicks, you can get a CSV export of every click and it includes the HTML path of the element. This is really helpful for when you have navs with dropdowns.

Cons: This is a minor complaint, but some times the heatmaps are captured before the page is fully loaded but can make it harder to discuss how user could be using the page.

Pros: Hotjar is great because the heatmaps easily show which links on my pages get clicked the most. Also, watching how visitors move their mouse through a page while watching a "recording" of their time on my site helps me position in-page links better.

Cons: The number of recordings on the basic version fills up quickly

Overall: I have recommended Hotjar to marketing managers in other companies. I've told them that it is a useful tool to gauge visitor experience.

Pros: Hotjar features so many functionalities that I don't even know what is its killer feature. Heatmaps, polls, surveys, visiting recordings... All of them worked perfectly fine with me, a free trial user.

Cons: The script code slow down the site, which is kind of expected, but besides that when I'm hosting a pop-up (which is user in the poll or surveys tools) my page bounce rate sky rockets. I don't know the reason but this happens to me.

Overall: With the bounce rate problem, I have been avoiding features that involves pop-ups. In other hand, the heatmaps and funnels tools continues to be essential to our operation.

Pros: Easy to set up out-of-the-box, but still has enough functionality to create funnels, heatmaps, and recordings based on custom parameters (such as geo, user flow, etc).

Cons: Can get quite expensive, and session recordings are capped at specific #s (depends on the tier). Would rather have it cycle (where new recordings cycle through and overwrite the oldest recordings), instead of session recordings stopping after it reaches 1k, 10k, etc.

Pros: It is a tool that is easily integrated into the pages (especially with access to GTM). The recordings are confidential (and they take it seriously) and as an analyst it gives you detailed information on how users browse your site. It also has heatmaps and scrollmaps. The free version lets you see enough information to convince yourself to pay the tool.

Cons: For each recording, it would be ideal to add more information without having to see them all complete, it would optimize the analyst's work much more. It has a lot of potential that has not yet been discovered

Overall: For several clients of the agency, we use the tool to make decisions regarding payment processes within ecommerce and navigation in general.

Pros: Hotjar is a very practical and valuable tool for analyzing how our website visitors interact with our content. We mostly use heatmaps right now - analyzing specific web pages to see which content is engaging to users and understand the behavior of users. We couldn't do it without Hotjar.

Cons: Right now there are no complaints on our end about Hotjar. They have a lot of features that we haven't explored yet but plan on diving into this year. I will say that Hotjar positions themselves for websites; as a software development firm, it would be nice to have something like Hotjar to not only analyze our website visitors but also our software users. Hotjar doesn't appear to yet have a solution targeted to anything but websites.

Cons: Wish the recording gave us more info on the user. I know that's probably a violation of privacy, but it would be cool! That way we could reach out to them directly to see if they had any questions or needed help finding the right product

Pros: Heatmaps, user recordings and polls are very easy to set up once your code is installed. By the way i recommend you install the tracking code using Google Tag manager which has a tag ready for hotjar, you only need to input your ID. Heatmaps are very useful when it comes to understand user behaviour and user experience. Also this software does not generate any warning from advertising networks and is 100% compliant with GDPR.

Cons: It automatically does not track 100% of traffic (but i think you can set up to track 100% traffic). Also sometimes is hard to go to see your settings if you have multiple business (eg: if you are and agency and your setting up heatmaps for your clients).

Overall: I've used 3 heatmap software using my own server and cloud hosted, but Hotjar is the best by far. The one i used that is server hosted gets a warning from services like Google Ads and Google Tag Manager.

Pros: It's incredibly easy to implement and to set up new pages for evaluation. We use the heatmap tool most often, but the video capture is also very useful. It's great when you want to A/B test web pages, or evidence a decision to stakeholders. The 'freemium' product licensing is also a bonus: try before you buy.

Cons: This product is exactly what it says it is. It's not going to replace user testing or Google Analytics, but it's a very handy adjunct to those tools.

Overall: We've been able to evidence UX decisions to stakeholders: it's very handy when you need data to back up an intuition about, e.g., moving a button on a webpage.

Pros: I love being able to track users as they access and view my website. The heatmaps are very informative and useful for A/B testing with the site.

Cons: I wish that the software provided more information about website visitors. The biggest downside is that I am unable to use the heatmap functionality for the email signup popup that is located on the site. I would like to be able to see what user's behavior looks like there.

Overall: I use Hotjar to analyze load times and user journey on my website. This has really helped me see how far users are going through the site and which pages are more successful. I've also learned which call to actions are getting the most traction.

Pros: This software works flawlessly. It's quick and simple to setup and use.

It's only when you use alternative software that's slower and clunkier, that you realise quite how smooth and awesome HotJar is!

They are very very good at meeting GDPR compliancy.

Cons: 1. The survey must sit in the corner of your web page. I'd like the option for a big intrusive one.

A large (intrusive) modal window that overlays the current page would massively increase survey response rate - required for smaller sites.

2. The survey feature doesn't adhere to all accessibility guidelines, such as the ability to tab through the functionality and use it with only the keyboard.

Overall: HotJar has lead the way with providing UX software that works really well, and at a great price point.

If you want to find usability issues in your site (where users struggle, and how to really improve the design of your site) then HotJar's heatmaps and session review tools will massively help you achieve this.

If you're doing UX, you'll want this.

Pros: This was very easy to install on our Shopify Plus website, and it didn't take long to start seeing the data. The user recordings are fascinating and you can easily spend hours watching these recordings. They were really helpful in seeing where customers were getting confused with our header and main nav, and we were able to use this information when making changes to these sections on the site.

Cons: The heatmaps get repetitive after a while, it's a safe bet that everyone is going to hang out above the fold of a page most of the time. I would love to see how Hotjar could help us leverage this information, or provide something above and beyond a basic heatmap.

Overall: For a business that is only using GA, Hotjar adds a new layer of customer behavioral data.

Comments: Overall the experience has been really good, important thing is to take the time to review and watch the heatmaps and recordings rather than setting it all going and then neglecting the results

Pros: The user interface of Hotjar is really easy to find your way around and it's not overly configurable which makes it really easy to set up your heatmaps and recordings

Cons: I think the features themselves could be more extensive and intelligent, such as generating a list of recommendations based on the heatmaps and recordings that you have, a little but like how Google's site performance tools work to give you actions based on the data

Cons: A significant number of available options, the study of which took a long period of time. When performing the setup had to resort to third-party assistance.

Pros: I loved my free trial of Hotjar. It was really interesting to watch the videos of each user that came to my site and to see how they interacted with it.

Cons: The pricing model was too high for the amount of traffic my website receives for me to justify the cost. Great product though and I would definitely consider it in the future.

Overall: I used Hotjar to get analytics on how users interacted with my website.

Pros: Hotjar provides lots of useful information: heatmaps of touch/click, recordings of mouse movements, scrolls, clicks. This information is very good to acknowledge faulty designs in the software.

Finally, Hotjar is very simple to configure and put to work in your system. It requires minimum knowledge about how to insert a code into a webpage (which is expected from someone that needs this kind of tracking system).

Cons: When creating a heatmap, it shows it over a static version of the webapp. For this reason, may not realize, at first, just by looking at the heatmap, that some regions are being interacted with because of some menu that appeared after another interaction.
