You cannot zoom in. You cannot edit you cannot highlight you cannot do anything to make your video better if it is in an application. It is a low level piece of crap. That’s why they don’t offer a free trial. Pros If you want to record something that you were doing in a web browser it works fine. Cons If you want to record something that you were doing in a web browser it works fine. Reason for choosing Screencastify It was a mistake I shouldn’t have chosen Screencastify. Pros I used this when I was teaching during the pandemic and it was a lifesaver. I would record lessons and easily upload them to YouTube for my students. It was as close as I could get to being in the classroom with them. I loved that I could record PowerPoint presentations and use Word to show writing examples all while recording. This also allowed the students to re-watch anything they needed to! Cons There weren't really any cons about the software itself. I just wish it would have been free a bit longer! It is easy to use and saved me a lot of headaches because I do not have to repeat directions multiple times anymore. Pros I really like how easy it is to record your computer screen. I use it to make tutorials for other teachers and my students so that they can easily see how to complete a task Cons The free version only allows you to save your files in one format. I've used other programs where there wasn't an option to add or subtract like this. The countdown and timers on screen were extremely helpful for making the video usable for everyone and run on time. Pros This free add on to Chrome was awesome. We utilized it first within our Athletic Directors group to discuss alternate scheduling options for changing sports seasons. I love that it isn't an additional program, but an add on to the browser to not have to add yet another thing to the computer. The platform is easy to understand, doesn't break, and produces videos exactly like what you're looking for. Pros It is easy to use via chrome extension and the free version has almost everything you need for short videos. Cons If you're going over a certain time limit (10 minutes last I checked) then you need the pro version of the software. Also there's a watermark, for those who are anti-watermark or want people to not think you're cheap. Pros When schools moved to emergency remote learning in the spring of 2020, Screencastify was one of the tools that helped teachers immediately pivot from live, in-person teaching to a more flipped model using video instruction. The screenshare function allowed for easy walkthrough videos, with teachers choosing whether or not they'd like their faces visible. Cons The only con is that if you do not pay for screencastify, you can only record for 5 minutes at a time. However, signing up for an account allows unlimited amounts of time.
