The program is very easy to use and allows for the quick creation of 2D floor plans as well as basic 3D visualizations, which is excellent for presenting design ideas to clients. However, I would suggest using it mainly in the early design or concept phase, where speed, clarity, and effective communication of ideas are more important than technical precision or photorealistic visualization. Pros What I like most about RoomSketcher is its simplicity and speed. It allows me to quickly create clear 2D floor plans and basic 3D visualizations, which makes it very effective for communicating design ideas to clients in the early concept phase. Owner Computer Networking Used the software for: Less than 6 months ### "A Great Home Room "Sketching" tool; but allow in your budget for a some add on costs" July 21, 2025 4.0 I bought RoomSketcher (leased it for a year) for a specific project of monitoring the building a new home. While I could have tried to recreate the professional blueprint in my owned version of Visio, I elected to use this tool. It is more laser focused for home "sketching" and did a create job of creating the blueprint. I did "pay" to have them recreate the floor plan from existing plans with excellent results. In the end, the costs were a bit more than planned, but the results were great and the flexibility to use the tools of the software was great afterwards. All in all I am happy with my decision and will get a full years work of placing furniture and planning out the new home with this tool. High (no perfect) marks. It was a good choice for me. Pros RoomSketcher is a strong tool for a home user to create a floor plan without being an architect. While not a replacement for AutoCAD, it can perform more intermediate tasks with minimal effort. It has the great ability to import an existing PDF (or jpg) floorplan with known dimensions and then trace over it to recreate your own matching floorplan. It won't "auto build" your plan, but you can get very close with careful tracing. Remember to save often. Note that I am an advanced business Visio user, but I elected to use this tool instead with its focus on home floor plans. My mantra is to use the right tool for the right job and RoomSketcher met my needs. I really do believe if I used my existing Visio, I would taken three times as long. Cons Two things. It is a bit "old school" with a download local software element that works on your local desktop computer (I worked on a Windows computer) but it was nice to have it save the floorplans in the cloud and then I was able to download the software on my second laptop and continue without "buying" the software again. But here is the warning. This is a pay to use extra features. I did buy the annual plan which was mostly "reasonable" for my needs but here is the strange catch. You get a set number of "credits" that get incremented each new month which is satisfactory for almost every basic needs. And for some specific actions, they get used for certain actions. I was not quite sure what action was going to "cost" me some of my actions, and so when I wanted to perform a new action (such as back up to a new plan) I might run out of "stored" credits and would either have to buy more or wait for the month to roll over to earn more. So I did end up having to pay for more credits than my original purchase. (Frown) They need to be more transparent of what the action costs are going to be before performing the actions. On the other hand my Frown turned to a little less unhappy, as I used my credits to have them convert an existing PDF architectural drawing into a full floor plan. After submitting, it took 24 hours, but their staff did an OUTSTANDING job transforming a complex blueprint into a great RoomSketcher file, well worth the extra 10 credits. Ironically, the experience of the surprise of extra costs kind of mirrors the experience of building new home with some budget overruns. Not a deal killer if you go in knowing the issue and paying attention to the details. And also, I can tell how RS developed and put new things in that time. I continue looking forward to new things in software! Pros How simple and easy RS to use. Everyone with standard knowledge is able to use it and make fantastic projects. Pros It’s Pretty easy to use to design a building. Allows you to get the correct sizes and shows you clearly how much space you would have. 3D options are pretty good too Cons There is no no mass copy or select an area feature so you cannot drag a whole room away. The 3D option is good but movement is limited. This feature could be beneficial for complex layouts. Cons Credit System and quality of finishes. You'll lose 1 credit to draw existing plan and 1 credit to copy the same plan to start modification. In my opinion the system is designed to make sure you can't do more than one project a month with the money you are paying. That even gets worse for people who are not familiar with this software because you may lose credit if accidentally click on certain tabs. Pros Customer Support and the ease of use as well as the design and functionality of the software. Also that I could upload PDF plans easily. Cons Initial confusion on what each different subscription could offer an interior design student. This was soon sorted by the great support and tutorials advice sessions.
