October 11, 2022 5.0 Well I have been using it since 2017 and it has improved a lot over the years. To this day this program is the only recording software I use. I record a lot of Sims 4 gameplay and it works wonderfully. I just have to adjust a few settings and it gives me no issues. It also works great on Linux and other operating systems. The best part of this program is that there are no ads and no paywall to get unlimited recording time. You can record however long you wish and it is free. There are no watermarks or distracting ads unlike other recording software out there. This I would recommend overall a nine out of ten on a scale. Very easy to use and install and export the files to YouTube. Pros I like how easy this program is to download and install. Go to the official website and download it. Then in a few clicks of a button you are in the program. You can figure the fps and the quality best for your computer and then hit record. The default it puts recording format .mkv but that can be easily changed to mp4. Cons One bad feature is the CPU can randomly spike up to 50% when recording games in higher graphics. This mainly happens on lower pcs but can be fixed by lowing the quality of the game and the recording software. August 8, 2022 5.0 My overall experience was great using OBS Studio. I highly recommend it for anyone that needs to stream or record content. Even if its a business that needs a simple solution. Pros The thing that i like the most about OBS is that its free and does an outstanding job at allowing user to stream and record audiovisual content. I was amazed at what OBS was capable of when i first started using the software for streaming my videogames to YouTube. Its also super easy to setup and use compared to its competitors which charge monthly for the same service. Cons The thing that i least like about OBS is the user interface and lack of video editing features. Although it wasn't meant to edit videos, it would be great if it had that features. Da studente non posso altro che dare come voto: 10.Con il covid mi sono ritrovato a fare tutte le lezioni da casa e grazie ad Obs le ho potute registrare tutte.Non ho mai avuto alcun problema, non si è mai bloccato o qualsiasi errore mentre registrava.Avevo la possibilità di mettere in pausa la registrazione per poi riprenderla, funzione molto utile quanto i professori facevano la pausa.L'audio era ottimo, ho sempre riascoltato le lezioni e non ho mai riscontrato problemi.Si ha anche la possibilità di registrare parti o finestre dello schermo, in questo modo se avessi dovuto inoltrare la lezione a qualche mio collega mi permetta di non fargli vedere il resto del mio pc (se magari nel mentre facevo altro ahah).Il salvataggio è veramente veloce, appena finita la registrazione l'attesa è di pochissimi secondi, si evita magari di lasciare il pc acceso. Per queste funzioni base che ho potuto utilizzare mi sono trovato davvero bene.Ho anche caricato video su you tube e su we trasfert e non ho mai avuto problemi. Pros The best thing about OBS Studio is that it offers a lot of features due to which it is commonly used by professionals. Another good thing is that the screen recording and audio recording quality is excellent and the recorded video can be saved and shared easily through social media apps. Also, the app can be optimized according to the user. Video settings such as video resolution, FPS can be adjusted. Similarly, audio settings can also be adjusted. Another good feature is that it records multiple screens at ease. Whereas, for streaming, OBS studio offers many features. One good feature is that we can select multiple sources of video to be streamed. Pros What I like most about OBS Studio is its ability to capture multiple screens into one main screen! You can hide screens/videos as well—which is useful if you want to have multiple screens/videos in the same spot of the screen. You can stack them on top of each other, hide all of the screens/videos and play each screen/video one by one. Hopefully that wasn’t confusing to read and understand \*laughs\* but it is a genius software for all of your screen capturing/recording needs! I personally use this for Twitch and would have my Xbox screen, Safari screens and a Google Chrome screen all showing on my main screen in my own way! I would have my Xbox screen and Safari screen on top of each other, and whenever I wanted to display the Xbox screen I would hide the Safari screen and vice versa. Cons It did take a little bit of YouTube video watching and Googling to adjust certain settings with my MacBook, as its easier to use with a Windows computer. For instance, to audio capture into OBS Studio with my MacBook, I needed to install an audio capturing software called SWB Audio Capture and select the multi-output option in my Mac’s audio settings—selecting my microphone and SWB only and deselecting the MacBook audio. Then going into OBS Studio’s audio settings and selecting SWB Audio Capture as the Output. So it does take special adjusting to work with a MacBook, but it is very possible. Review Source JM John M. Once you begin to learn the ropes and get an understanding of what the terms mean and the ways that they can affect streams and recordings, it becomes a very valuable tool for content creation that streamlines a lot of the finer details of a streaming and recording setup and allows one to focus on making content. Pros OBS is software that really helped to make my streams and recordings really simple to manage. I stream and record most of my gameplay from Xbox One and with OBS I am able to use a simple set up to add personality and flair to my streams. I can also integrate OBS into my operation to stream to places such as YouTube, FaceBook, and Twitch using overlays which aren't provided natively by the Xbox One console which really helps one to stand out amongst other streamers. Set up is relatively easy because the OBS software has features that can detect what you have available and set itself up based on the specifications that it detects. When it comes to recording, using the capture software allows me to add overlays and things such as watermarks to content as it records as well as set up audio options such as microphones and the levels of audio that it records. Getting help is quite simple since there are many forums and other ways to find information and tips online as well as turotials provided by the developers themselves. Cons What I liked the least about this software was probably trying to understand what some of the options would do once I began to explore the program and options that it offers. Being new to streaming at the time, it was more or less a problem not having a good understanding of how to set things up overall. Once I spent some time browsing forums and the other sources of help regarding OBS, I found that it was pretty easy to understand how to adjust things as I needed to. While searching for a solution to fit my needs, I had come across quite a few people that recommended OBS since it didn't require much to run. Really recommend it, I tried Streamlabs Obs thinking it is simple but OBS is less heavy on the CPU and GPU so I definitely recommend it if you want a smooth experience. Pros Easy to use, straight to the point, very powerful yet so simple that you don't think it is as powerful but once used, you can see the results and you are very happy on what you can do with it. Cons I would say the settings sometimes are not really easy, I had to go to youtube multiple times to set it up also the frame drops despite having a good connexion in both download speed and upload speed. Pros An incredibly powerful free application that lets you capture or stream content. It supports multiple screens, has built in functionality with the most popular apps (ie: twitch), and is the software of choice for most professional streamers. It's covered under GPL and is free to use Cons There's a large learning curve. It's not software that you can just install and use immediately. You'll need to watch a few tutorial videos or do some searching to figure out how to add resources to stream/capture. We plan to use it every semester now for our capstone classes. This is a good exercise for our broadcast majors who are used to working in a live studio. I think it also taught them to me a bit more mobile and flexible when working with online video. Pros I looked for a livestream solution for a long time and talked with a lot of paid programs, such as Livestream and XSplit. When I learned there was a version of OBS for Mac, I took the plunge and tried it. I can't believe how easy it was. We used it to livestream a web show for our capstone project magazine Valley REality. The students were quickly able to figure out how to incorporate text overlays and multiple cameras in the stream. Cons There were some issues with connecting the livestream to Facebook and I wish there was an easier way to test the stream before we published it. We had to look up some things online to determine how to preview the stream. We had an issue connecting some cameras, but that wasn't an issue with OBS. That had to do mostly with the cameras. We also had some of live video get really choppy on the livestream and we weren't able to find a solution just by googling it. It would have been nice to have some live support to help with this, but I understand as open source software, you have to rely on the community. The audio mixer is so simple yet powerful with features like noise suppression, gain etc. The layout of the interface could be rearranged or undocked out of the main window to use on a separate window space. It is always better not to mess with the default values. On some devices there is a problem the with the screen recording that it becomes completely black. If you have a question about OBS there are hundreds of videos and communities you can join. Pros It's Free and ridiculously robust software. You can put up a great live stream with little understanding of all the tech under the hood. Cons OBS is Open Source software, as such, there will be bugs. It is not uncommon for functions to suddenly stop working. 99% of the time such problems are solved by quitting and restarting OBS. May 25, 2020 5.0 OBS saved us money from buying a paid software for recording and streaming. The community providing tutorials is quite big so it was kinda easy to get into using the program. It may be a bit more complex than other programs but that's also a con and a pro. As long as you know that some applications won't get recognized and you'll have to use a display capture you're good using OBS (some programs from the competition have the same issues) This might sound weird and impossible but it would be great if they had a way to not film the OBS frame using a display capture for people with only 1 screen. Pros OBS Studio is a great free application for recording and streaming. The best thing about OBS is the amount of customizations, settings, and options you have along with the plugins. This can also be a problem however (read more in Cons). A great improvement to OBS is that for a few updates now it has Twitch UI integration where you can setup your stream info and talk to people on their chat. There are a lot of recording/streaming options and the studio part provides great tools for long streams where you must also act as the director moving from one camera to another, adding transition effects, moving text, etc. The amount of plugins available makes integrating with Twitch, Youtube, etc work really well especially if you're getting donations. Cons My biggest problem with OBS is that certain games are not recognized so the only thing to do is to use the display capture. This is quite an issue since not all streamers know of this and as a game developer myself I can see how this could hinder some people from streaming/recording our products. Another con would be that there is no basic mode to set things up, even though they have an Advanced tab in the settings, the "basic" settings are still quite advanced. Pros It could be the best platform for streamings in the market, since it has all the necessary tools to have a quality stream, since it has several advanced functions to be able to adjust your stream to your liking, and also to be able to manage the use of the ram and processor that your computer is consuming with the use of time. It could be said that at the beginning, the interface may scare you a little, since it is very technical and you will have to get used to the tools displayed, but with the passage of time you will get used to it, and be able to make an excellent stream. I used this to record lectures done by my teachers also I recorded my screen while I'm giving a lecture to my friends also. It contains so many functions like adding filters to reduce background noise, screen filters etc. Also, Im using this software to live broadcast on Facebook when I'm hosting webinars. Cons Because the product is open source, the latest version upgrade comes with changes in syntax. i.e., Having a lower-third animation function, the commands change with a new update, and it can be difficult to get the product started if you do not visit the developer's forum to follow through with the changes.
