February 19, 2019 5.0 Pros Screen-recording, or screen-casting, it's got it all! It's the only thing I ever need anymore. Cons It's a bit tricky to learn to use. It's not a one-click wonder like other screen-recorder apps out there, so you can't just install and run with it. But once it's all set-up, you can start recording or screencasting in a single click. Pros I love that you can layer frames and even have a live stream of yourself superimposed on the content you are recording. The quality is very high and I can use the output as video input to other software that I use. Really impressive! Cons The user interface take a little getting used to. I had never used any software of the kind and was a bit intimidated but had a pleasant surprise with OBS Pros OBS offers a wide array of functionalities, use of multiple scenes, image effects and arrangements and was much simpler than I expected. Cons The UI could be friendlier, it is rather clunky and the help section on the software could also be more intuitive, although that is not such a big deal as there is several resources on the web. And you can capture video directly from your browser! A free product should not this good, but it is. All the features you get in an expensive version of the same. Cons The interface has a learning curve, and its not pretty. But if you can commit to learning (and I usually am not willing to do so), it is so very, very worth it. I expected it to be "tricky" to use at first, but when you spend a bit of time "clicking and hounding" you can have interesting results in terms of streaming. Pros I was amazed by the low impact that this software has in FPS, specially when using a low performace computer. Cons Very high learning curve, it is not aimed for begginers. It has lots of helpful documentation on it's wiki and a large helpful community. Cons Because I only use OBS perhaps once a month or so, it can be difficult to remember what to do each time I open the software and takes some refamiliarising of the controls and/or features.
