### "No just skilled level, but master level need only apply!"

February 8, 2022

5.0

It's been about a 50/50 love/hate type relationship. When it's good it's great... when it's bad it's terrible! I feel certain 50% off my issues are equipment and hardware not being up to par and the other 50% of my issues are with the UI.

Pros

I like how it breaks the barrier of my internet service weakness and my low quality equipment and can make my video look professional.

Cons

I don't like that it makes me feel inadequate because i have no idea what I'm doing really. I follow the instructions and it takes me a few times of trying before i get it up and running... but then the slightest pull on my internet or my laptop will quickly freeze it all up.

Reason for choosing OBS Studio

Droidcam was a basic broadcast of my phone camera to my laptop, it offered a few extras that my built in webcam didn't but it froze a lot and didn't offer enough features

### "The best application for broadcasting and recording content."

January 26, 2023

5.0

I have been using it for more than 2 years; from my experience it is a very useful application, especially for content creators who are just starting out and do not have the economy to purchase similar paid applications or software.

Pros

Among the things I liked the most is the possibility of recording multiple screens, also the opportunity to choose the quality of video and audio to record to have the video size at our convenience. As for its ease of use is really impressive, you do not need to be an expert to do it, because its interface is very intuitive, plus once configured everything runs faster.I use it to record classes and at the same time do live broadcasts. I recommend it 100%.

Cons

The only downside I find is that it does not have a support that is pending to help the problems that the user has, otherwise it is a great application.

### "OBS Studio is THE solution for training, podcasts and streaming!"

September 6, 2023

5.0

Pros

OBS Studio is very versatile, and a producer can integrate many features to put on professional productions. The cost of OBS is FREE, but there are other additional plugins, such as those published by OWN3D, that allow really neat overlays and a very professional look. Also, easy to integrate mixers, slides, and other media, including videos and music.

Cons

While there are a ton of videos and tutorials about OBS Studio, it should be mentioned that you will have to expend a bit of time learning all the ways it works to be competent with it. It's not a toy software... it has a lot of features. These take some time to master. I come from a film and video background, have used analog and video editing tools, include Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere, and AVS4You. It is a similar level of learning curve. However, once your deep into it, you wonder how you got along without such a versatile piece of kit.

### "This screen recorder can beat all the big name easily"

January 25, 2022

5.0

I am a fan of OBS which you already know if you have read the review. It is a screen recorder and it is the best. Don't freak out with its control, give it some love and time it will return the favor ten fold

Pros

What not to love. Its lightweight, feature rich and can record long videos. OBS gives you flexibility not available in most screen recorder. Once I start using it I never looked back once. Other screen recorder require you to tell it what to do each time. OBS doesn't have that problem. Once I setup my profiles it is just selecting profiles. And it can handle anything. No need for configuring every time you launch.

Cons

OBS has a little difficult learning curve but I will suggest you to watch an YouTube tutorial if necessary cause once you get the hang of it you will save hours throughout your use of OBS. Another thing I miss time to time is a video cutter. I believe it will be a nice addition.

### "Reliable tool for recording and streaming!"

September 25, 2019

5.0

I have used OBS to successfully stream video gameplay with minimal to no latency or problems. I have also used OBS to record tutorials on how to use different software for work-related projects. Overall, it provided me with exactly what I was looking for.

Pros

I downloaded OBS some years back when streaming was starting to kick off. I considered a handful of different streaming programs, but I keep coming back to this one. OBS works great because it is lightweight and powerful. It doesn't take up a lot of memory space, doesn't create lag or latency and the screen recording delay is minimal. If you are playing a game and streaming, it doesn't slow your FPS (frames per second) rate, and it works great with any decent computer set up out there. If you can run any of the popular games out there, you can run OBS. It works great with Twitch, and it being open sourced means it is a budding streamer's best friend. Simple tools let you manage your screen recordings along with sound, screen transitions, and a captioning option; while providing extra tools that help streamline your projects. With a tool kit that is practical and easy to understand, OBS excels at providing just what you want for your screen recording and streaming needs.

Cons

OBS isn't tailored to any specific use or website. It focuses on general use for streaming and/or screen recording. For this reason, it lacks some of the flash and bang that other streaming software may be able to provide. Although the tools are easy to understand, it's not as intuitive as other programs and may require a little time to learn, especially if you are not familiar with similar software.

Reason for choosing OBS Studio

Overall, OBS is affordable (being open sourced), has great updates, and is lightweight while still giving me both screen recording and streaming tools. I found a few other programs didn't perform well, didn't save in the format or resolution I was looking for. I also experienced problems where the audio fell out of sync with the image. I have never had any of these issues while using OBS, which is why it's been my number one, most reliable choice for several years now.

### "An argument for open source software"

December 10, 2019

4.0

OBS is the best option for streaming I have used. Any time a website uses its own propriatary streaming software, or an integrated browser extension, I seek out a way to use my favorite settings on obs. Although it is not perfect, most of the issues I've had do have workarounds, mostly on the OBS forums. Overall, I would enjoy easier integration of twitch alerts, and custom animations, but it is still my platform of choice.

Pros

OBS has the widest support for plugins, features and formats to source into a single scene. Coupled with it's grouping feature, it is simple to create scenes that are professional, and high quality. It is also compatible with most any streaming platform, with customizable features, and profile management making the jump between platforms straightforward and easy. Not to mention the integration with the elgato stream deck is amazing, and has allowed me to use OBS in ways it was not originally intended (cue'd premade video assets for a live show)

Cons

Sometimes the software has issues, many of which are resolved by restarting the software, but in particular, no matter how hard I try, I can't seem to fully eliminate the CPU overload error. I was having problems with it until a recent re configuring of my desktop PC, but during the issue, I had to rely almost completely on console games captured through the elgato capture card, rather than force modern games to share cpu/gpu with OBS. As mentioned, this has since been mostly resolved, but optimising the program/changing the settings as per the recommended fixes was not as effective as simply altering the host computer. On occasion, a scene I have recently built will become inaccessible and crash obs, leaving me to recreate it under a new name.

### "The best screen-casting software out there!"

May 19, 2021

5.0

OBS Studio has helped me record a lot of my lectures (for the students) very easy! I could record off my camera, screen, windows and the filters help enhance the quality or crop off sections off the recording. This makes my post-recording work almost none! The best part is that its open source and hence, FREE! There is an excellent community that maintain this software and I am nonetheless amazed of what all it has to offer.

Pros

The features OBS Studio offers are immense. There are a truck load of features, from recording screens/windows to streaming/broadcasting to adding filters! OBS Studio is efficiently optimized to do its work and doesn't add much to the system load! It is available for all major distributions, like Windows, Mac, Linux and supports all of them flawlessly!

Cons

You'll need a manual before starting out with OBS. Although, once you start, it gets pretty intuitive and it gets better by the minute. It would take some time to get accustomed to the UI, but it is a really powerful software, that can literally do anything!

Switched from

[Bandicam](https://www.capterra.com/p/188396/Bandicam-Screen-Recorder/)

I used to use Bandicam and Windows Game Bar to record my screen earlier. I had nothing for my camera earlier, and used a regular camera video. However, OBS offers to do both, record screen and camera, making it an all-in-one package. Bandicam is a paid tool and most of the functionalities it offers are paid, with certain limitations. Furthermore, since its a proprietary product, we don't know how it runs under the hood and hence is less "secure" than OBS studio which is open source and FREE! Windows Game Bar is just a windows-specific service to record screen capture, and that's it. No specific window or camera, but just the screen. It lacks a lot of features and also can't be tuned as per our requirement.

### "Bring remote teaching to the next level"

March 17, 2021

4.0

By using OBS forums and some Youtube videos I got started in a few days and could manage my online lessons by myself, giving them a more professional and effective touch. I then learned how to bring outside speakers and computers into the show, and the possibilities were amazing.

Pros

OBS Studio is a free video editing software with lots of helful functions for live sessions. You can set up multiple shots (close-ups, half-length, etc.) and bring multiple elements into your scene (e.g., another computer screen to use as background, an external camera, even a co-host that is broadcasting via his/her cell-phone and that you can put next to you on the same screen!). Features are almost endless, but you have to learn about them via the product's forums and install them as separate addons. The whole thing can be connected to Zoom, Teams, Skype etc (OBS may start a "virtual camera" that you can choose as a video source within each of those softwares). You can use captions, filters, etc... and switch shot by just pressing a shortcut key (e.g.: F1 is the close-up, F2 is the external co-host, F3 is the Powerpoint presentation, etc.). It brings new life to your remote teaching, providing effective solutions and keeping students involved and entertained. Although it may take a while to learn, i found it an excellent investment.

Cons

Like many video-editing programs, it is CPU- and memory-hungry and eats up a lot a PC resources. Accordingly, it may freeze or crash if your PC is not strong enough to cope with the load. The fact that it is open and community-developed does not help. There are commercial alternatives that are more streamlined but less flexibles (and expensive), and you may decide to turn to them at a later stage.

Reason for choosing OBS Studio

Since I wanted to experiment and was unsure whether I would manage to use a full video-editing platform, I liked the fact that this solution was free of charge and had a large community of users that I could turn to for advice

### "OBS Studio: Best free recording/streaming software!"

September 3, 2021

5.0

Pros

It's free, it has a ton of different options to customize how I use the software. I can stream, record gameplay, record a tutorial, my own webcam, etc. I can do a lot with OBS, but the best thing is that it's free!

Cons

### "OBS, the king of streaming (on budget) studios"

January 7, 2021

4.0

It was a slow learning curve and at first really confused me, but OBS Studio was the best solution for my project. While looking at the stream I really thought it looked professional, and I was very satisfied.

Pros

I started using OBS while doing a film series in my city, the project was open to the public, but the pandemic forced me to turn the thing into an online project. I used a lot of streaming software at first, skipping OBS for no reason, but when I tried the software I was in awe. The whole package its free to use, while limited sometimes, if you learn how to set it up (Wiki and guides are really useful on the official website), you're good to go. I like to think about OBS as a solution for basic or minimalistic projects. On audio, you can set different audio tracks, separate them and record them. About video, the settings for streaming are useful if your internet connection it's not too good or if your PC/laptop it's not the most powerful out there. The software was using a lot of ram on my laptop at first, but after tweaking the settings a bit, it became really lightweight. You can add a capture device, you can capture your own desktop, a window, you can even add GIFs, images and videos and resize them or drag them through the screen. And yes, you can record on .H264, and that's one of the best things about it. Rookie streamer, if you're reading this and want to take a challenge, download and install OBS right now, it's the best solution for your project if you're on a tight budget.

Cons

As said, sometimes it lags the computer a bit if you didn't set up the whole thing correctly. The instructions guide it's really extensive and things are kind of hard to understand if you're a novice (YouTube tutorials can help you a lot on this).

### "OBS Is a Great Free Resource"

February 13, 2024

5.0

For a free software, I very much appreciate its versatility and streaming services. It offers as much as most products that have significant costs to them.

Pros

I appreciate greatly that it is free and works amazing for the price. It gives us what we need for video recording and the quality is solid. The multi-screen capturing gives us versatility to get what we need for our production. It is fairly light-weight for what it accomplishes. I really appreciate the streaming service it offers.

Cons

It was a little tricky to get setup and diagnose issues, especially with the low quality of our video and our slow internet. I've had issues with the screen recording and haven't had fixed the issues yet. There are limited resources available to troubleshoot issues, too.

Reason for choosing OBS Studio

The cost and versatility are what really pushed us to use OBS.

### "An Excellent Tool For Screen Recording and Streaming"

October 14, 2023

5.0

Pros

I've been using OBS forever, and never had any issues with it. It has so many features, and I can stream or record videos instantly. I love how i can easily customize my streams and it also provides wide range of plugins to extend it's functionalities further like chat overlays, custom scene transitions, audio filters and so much more. Since it is also an Open Source Software, it is definitely worth using without any cost.

Cons

It will take some time to get used to the tool and learn how to use it properly for new users. And, occasionally I would have some performance issues, as it consumes high CPU and RAM resources.

Cons

OBS is an awesome online streaming software that I have also used to record my lectures and to record my game plays. All these features are available in OBS for free. As for the me it is the best recording tool out there.

Pros

OBS is a great tool for streamers, because it can stream directly to Youtube. Gamers for example can play, record and stream with the app to Youtube. It is also free and has all features that a professional streamer needs. It is very flexible and easy to use.

### ""Okay'' For what it Does"

September 12, 2019

4.0

Overall, despite my recent comments, I DO recommend this to other Streamers or content creators. And I know many others that do, too. The program really has enough of a following and dedicated creators that want to keep working with and through problems. The Discord Chat provided and the aid of other content creators has me coming back, working constantly WITH OBS despite its flaws, and looking forward to further improvement. Keep it up! You are doing alright, Team!

Pros

I actually enjoy using this program! Sometimes it can get buggy after an update or freezes up when about to use it. But the customer service availability is good, so I feel pretty well supported and put in the right direction if I need help or advice. I use this to Stream on a regular basis for charity, and it's gotten the job done. Sometimes not perfectly, but usually rather tolerable.

Cons

Updates can set stream time back at time and it can be tricky to backtrack. So, the unpredictability in that regard can be frustrating.

### "Extremely powerful tool for broadcasting multiple video and audio sources. "

May 19, 2021

4.0

Overall I think OBS is fantastic. It is a bit kludge-y in certain aspects but I have been using it for about a year and a half now and I can't imagine switching to a different tool. It has been able to handle multiple camera scenarios with ease. I just love it.

Pros

This product allowed me to quickly put together professional "studio grade" composite video scenes that were then easily broadcast to a number of online sites. I used it most frequently with Twitch and it has nicely integrated twitch features, but it can also be used to broadcast to facebook or youtube given that you have things configured correctly. The ability to apply video and audio filters as well as support for a variety of different audio and video formats for inset playback was extremely useful.

Cons

This product has a bit of a DIY flair. For anyone with a background in video editing or audio editing it wont take too long to figure out how to set up a scene and broadcast with OBS. However, the onbaording for new users is virtually non existant. I certainly wouldn't give OBS to someone with little to know technical experience and expect them to be successfull. In today's tech landscape, especially when it comes to streaming there are so many unsophisticated users attempting to get started that I think a few more passes to the UX and UI would be beneficial.

### "OBS is absolutely ESSENTIAL software for online streaming"

May 24, 2023

5.0

Thankful that this software is (FREELY) available and works so reliably. Doesn't matter the video/audio source; it handles everything well. Absolutely no plans to switch to anything else (even if they were to start charging for it).

Pros

We've been regularly (weekly) streaming our services for 3+ years now, exclusively using OBS Studio to do so, and it's worked essentially flawlessly. While the options for configuring the software are abundant, they're still not TOO hard to figure out, and the ability to easily work with (in a variety of ways) any incoming video/audio are great. Plus, you can't beat the price!
