I love it because for me being a DJ, I am able to stream live from anywhere without having any other apps that I would need to download. Everytime I stream it's literally "go live" and I'm up and running. I can count on one hand the number of times OBS has crashed during a stream. Pros It was pretty quick to get up and running with streaming, this was something I've wanted to do and this was the software that was widely used and after using it I can see why. Cons While it was quick to get setup and going at a "basic" level, the more advanced stuff was a little tricky but doable. I wish they had better tutorials on this stuff, such as adding "current song" playing or adding/moving alerts. I'm able to live stream on two of the platforms I am on most often and I can do this with a bit of finesse which is important to me as a video professional. Pros The ability to create multiple scenes and switch between them while live streaming. Each scene can be either a pre-recorded video source (thus giving you the option of going "Live" with a taped segment \[or segments\]), a camera (live video source) or a static image. Cons The inability to create a playlist of scenes so that I could more easily go from one to the next. OBS seems to require me to select a preview and then switch it to live. I'd rather be able to fading a sequence of scenes and then just press one button to go through them. Pros We've been looking for a flexible way to record and edit our webinars and have found OBS the most useful app so far. We've tried proprietary software such as Logitech Capture, but were really disappointed with the functionality. OBS Studio provides us with a more professional presentation and has helped us to improve the consistency of our tutorials. Cons There's so much OBS can do that it can be a little intimidating at first. I'm not a fan on the default black background and it did take quite some time to get my head around all the different options available. This said, it was worth investing the time to discover what you can achieve using the full range of tools available. I use this time and time again and have had no issues versus any paid-for program! Pros I used to use one of Adobe's products, but when support for that got dropped, I had to find something easy to use and inexpensive. OBS fit that bill perfectly. It's simple enough to allow me to select my streaming destinations easily, but also allow me to use my professional capture devices. As long as the computer can recognize it, it can be loaded into OBS and used as an input source. I typically use a switcher for my streaming productions, but for times when I had to cue up other multimedia files, I can load those right into OBS and switch to them outside of the switcher easily. Very flexible software! Not having to use an external recorder is a life saver too. I can just select start streaming and start recording and now I have my clean file to work with later if anything happens with the stream. I also like being able to see my stream health right on the screen very clearly as well. Cons Not much! I haven't hit any issues with streaming to different sources, and if anything, maybe had some issues with stream health, but that's an internet connection thing and I'm guessing OBS can't work magic and give me unlimited bandwidth. Pros The first time we were able to Go live we used this software and we loved how easy it is to go live with it and still record the session. Cons It can take a bit of time to set up things on the back end which needs a lot of patience, but once it's up and running it gets really smooth and easier. Once you've got your scenes and everything set up the way you want, it's one button push an you're off to the races. Pros There's not much to dislike about this software. I've been using it pretty consistently for 5 years, and if you're looking to manage any kind of livestream, there aren't many options that come close to this. It allows you to manage multiple scenes, add custom transitions/overlays, create hotkeys, etc. I could go on, but I have never even considered switching software. Cons There's literally nothing to dislike about the software. Not only is it completely free, it's the premier streaming platform. It's constantly evolving and getting better. The only thing I could possibly say is there's a potential learning curve, but if you have any background in video production, it shouldn't be an issue at all. Video recording is clear. Excellent quality. Cons While the app is excellent in its quality, however, it is not available on android. I must say, it is one of the disadvantages in OBS Studio. OBS is very powerful, but I was able to figure it out without reading a bunch of manuals which normally are Greek to me. It seems like it was made for the novice user but has most of the features you would find with a professional software. It was a great find and even better since it's free. Pros OBS was the easiest video recording software that I could find, and finding out it's free was a great plus. Cons Saving the recordings and the file location seemed a bit odd. YouTube has a good number of tutorials on OBS Studio but it would be nice if the actual developers provided a library of usage videos. The ability to use different streaming platforms for output, the customization for scene inputs. Getting your stream to the right theme is a big plus. Cons At first, it is a hard software to understand. Getting the right output settings based off of your own ISP speeds and computer specifications. Although I didn't use the upload to YouTube feature, I can see why it's useful. Lots of options to cater to people who have good knowledge of video editing and recording. I would have like a series of presets for video and sound so I wouldn't have had to spend time setting it up. However you can use the Auto-Configuration Wizard to do this once you have played with this. On the whole it's easy to set up, easy to use and I got good quality out of it after fiddling around with it. I would say if you already know video and editing programs this one is decent. Sure, the UX is not pretty (bare and functional) and the program would benefit from giving a user more guidance, but I like it. Pros It was easy to install and set up (I use an older iMac 27-inch). I spent a good hour going through all the options to see what was useful for me. Once I took a few tries at how best to position myself, and set the lighting in my office, it got easier to use. I was using the built-in camera and mic on my Mac and that I have used it for 3 videos that captured me speaking. The person who edited the videos afterwards was happy with the sound given I didn't have a good external microphone. Lots of options, filters and filters for video and sound if you're more professional. You can really fine tune the video if you're interested. Cons The UX is less than stellar. If you're not a regular user of video recording software it will take a while to get up to speed and know what to use or not use. It's a bit hit or miss but I did not consult any documentation, I just clicked around to see how it worked. Reason for choosing OBS Studio I read a review about it online and it came recommended.
