The landscape is constantly changing, and the knowledge that we have a tool like JAMF Pro at our disposal give us confidence that we can adapt to any change needed. Pros It make management of macOS, iOS, and iPadOS easy and seamless. JAMF always has day 1 support of releases and adds features as needed. Cons The new UI was made to make things better on mobile devices, which is was, but it made it a little more confusing on the compute browsers. Icons and text are always preferred over only icons. No question. If there's something you'd like to do with your macOS or iOS MDM (also tvOS) and Apple has released the ability to actually do that - JAMF will allow you to control it. Pros I LOVE the ease of this product when needing to manage a large number of Apple Devices. I also think that they have a wonderful user conference, and great community that are very willing to share trials, tribulations and triumphs. Classes to get certified are great and those leading them are knowledgeable and thorough. Cons I don't like all of the changes with managing iPads year after year and the difficulty there was transitioning when they were first able to "managed", however, I believe that was mostly Apple's fault, not the fault of JAMF. Pros Jams Pro always provides 0 day support, we use it to manage our customers fleets. At least 50 instances managing 20,000 devices total. They always provide the latest features from apple without any delay or wait like other MDM vendors. Cons There are a number of legacy features or manual setup steps that can be confusing. Also some of the features assume Active Directory which isn’t alway common with most organizations. October 17, 2019 5.0 Pros This software allows you to manage several computers as well as iPads from it's friendly user interface. We've implemented it successfully in our schools (over 20 locations) and it is a tremendous help. We've been able to use this software to deploy programs and applications without having to hand install them on multiple computers/iPads..it's a HUGE time saver. Cons There really isn't too much to not like about this software. Their support team is friendly/knowledgeable, they stand by their product, and it is easy to use. Switched from [FileWave](https://www.capterra.com/p/182010/FileWave-Endpoint-Management/) Filewave's interface made it difficult to manage the computers without having to do a model update every time something needed to be modified or changed. JAMF made it easy for us to manage devices in our purview without having to go through model updates. I can now manage my fleet of apple devices with out any hickups. Report generating hasnt been easier too! Pros The layout and use interface is fantastic and intuitive. I implemented blind, relying on the support team and good old documentation to help me out. The support team was fantastic and also teached me how to accomplish various tasks on the platform Cons Its very expensive with a mandatory training program. The ease of use in JAMF is significantly better. Pros When I took over our Apple OS environment, I was not an Apple user. It was extremely easy to work with JAMF and within a 6 months, I had figured things out, had completed 2 JAMF upgrades, and was enrolling Mac OS devices. Its a super simple product and is the best for management. Cons Most of my issues with JAMF are related more to Apple limiting the kinds of features I want to be able to configure. Apple needs to allow MDMs to set more things. Reason for choosing Jamf Pro When we first used JAMF, Airwatch didn't have Apple support. We were one of JAMF's first 10 customers. I can't imagine being able to do our job and offer first-class support to our Mac population without it. Pros I love how Jamf leverages native Apple technology, services, resources, and features to best manage Apple devices. User Experience has improved greatly and looks like it'll be even better with version 10 launching later this year. Cons I think the biggest holdup for Jamf products right now, for me and my priorities, are how configuration profiles are built and applied using the GUI. A lot of funky stuff happens when you have payloads split across different profiles, and Jamf's MDM doesn't seem to be able to create profiles with only the settings you want applied and not other things in other tabs. It's cause a lot of headache for a lot of admins not having considerations like this well-documented somewhere. It falls a lot on the community to sort out the intricacies. Review Source LN Lisa N. It continues to be the easiest app for us to manage and troubleshoot ipads. Pros We continue to use JAMF for ipad management at our school and appreciate that there are features to control what external AI is available and there are now built in compliance benchmarks. September 19, 2017 5.0 We were able to reach device management parity with our Windows environment. Reduced IT staff time needed to perform one-off administration of macOS/iOS devices. Pros Flexibility, extent of system management capabilities, technical support, ability to create "sites" for de-centralized IT teams that allow them to administer their own devices. Really, the list of what it can do goes on and on. We run SCCM for management of our Windows devices. JAMF allows us to reach management parity for macOS/iOS devices. Cons Some high level computer management functions (packages, scripts, printers, etc) are centralized and cannot not wholly distributed/de-centralized to departmental IT teams (eg. each IT team will see and potentially be able to change these items). Anytime there is question about security or patching, it's easy to find and deliver. Pros This product allows me to easily deploy and control almost everything needed on Apple Products. You can deploy scripts and customized software as well as create Extension Attributes for specific things. There is not much you cannot do with this product. There are consistent updates that are always adding and improving the product and UI. Cons I feel like the setup and initial learning curve was a little rocky but once running there hasn't been much of an issue. Reason for choosing Jamf Pro A friend at another company suggested it and the Jamf Nation community is a great place to find and resolve similar issues. August 4, 2020 5.0 Jamf is an indispensable tool for device management. It puts the flow in the workflow and makes large scale deployments manageable by a small staff with various skill sets. Pros Jamf provides me the ability to amplify my efforts of making task ready machines, where ever, and whenever needed. Cons I'd like a GUI option to replicate the actual device screen so I can have teachers manage devices in real-time to maximize contact time. IT Support Technician Computer Software Used the software for: 6-12 months ### "Powerful software with lackluster UX" December 12, 2019 5.0 Jamf has been great to work with, but their pricing is not cheap and their mandatory $5,000 upfront training costs seem a bit absurd. Training should be optional in my opinion, especially for companies already familiar with other MDMs (or forced to switch because Jamf bought out another company we were already using and forcing people to migrate to Jamf) Pros Jamf and Apple have had a special relationship for several years now, and they are usually the first vendor to support new features and operating system releases. Jamf fully supports all available MDM APIs, and is extremely full-featured. Cons There will be a certain level of complexity in any MDM software of this caliber, and Jamf is no different. It's meant for organization IT admins and support staff, not the average user. However, the UI / UX in Jamf could use a lot of improvement. Coming from Xinca (which they bought out), the ease-of-use difference is striking, and not in a positive way. Xinca was just as full-featured, but was easier to use in a lot of ways. Editing a device record? Better make sure you click the little grey Save button in the upper right corner and not the giant blue Done buttton at the bottom right if you want your work to be saved. There are many quirks like the one just mentioned that make me wish they would take the Xinca UX team and give them a year with a big budget to clean up the Jamf workflow UX. Tech time is down because it just works, wish I Could say that about windows.Jamf has paid for itself in cost reduction in tech time and management twice over in the last three years. Pros First off I when I started down the Merry road of Jamf I had no experience at all with MDMs.I had to move from another MDM mainly for ipads and the boss said it's your baby now. Well from the jumpstart to a 3 month implantation I am blown away on the easy it was to set up,that was three years ago now we manage everything Mac/iOS with Jamf. I recommend a strong onboarding plan before you begin using it. Pros I love the ability to remotely manage our iPads and MacBooks. It has been a game change when provide app support for our teachers and students. They have extensive self service videos and trainings as well as a community of other users. Cons JAMF is not an intutive program. There are many clicks that often be confusing or one overrides another. This can be due to my lack of knowledge and onboarding to the program. While the resources are plentiful, they are broken down into small manageable parts, but if you don't know where to start you end up lost in a maze of resources.
