Even with the price increase, I'll continue using the cPanel / WHM combo because "it just works" Pros Both cPanel and WHM are both widely used in the industry and easy to learn. Client to client, server to server, you know what you're going to get and how to use it. Cons The recent price increase has led to folks moving away from cPanel which has led to more competition in the marketplace. The unfortunate side effect of this is you will need to start learning how to use the competing software or building their own leading to a fracturing of the user base. For me, it is the best dashboard out there, and it is highly advised for any one looking to manage a server. Pros The Cpanel is fairly easy to use. The user interface is super friendly. The learning curve works better in an intuitive enviroment as the shown in Cpanel. Managing and installing frameworks such as WordPress runs with ease. Creating email addresses and managing them is super smooth and easygoing. Cons No cons so far in comparison with similar alternatives that might be a little more powerful, but requires much more time to get used to and managing. I can deploy opensource web apps with ease through Softaculous. Cons The built-in analytics. I never use them, preferring Google Analytics. They take up disk space through log files, and don't appear to be an optional feature you can turn off. But it is quite resourceful, if there had been light version of cPanel, it would been even more better. January 7, 2021 4.0 Great product has all the features I need though just had a pricing structure increase. Pros Allows me to do everything I need to do with my hosting. I have played with plesk but I am more used to cpanel and WHM and know where everything is and there are so many features that allow me to resell hosting and make money from it! It is updated a lot which is great. Cons The main issue I had is this new pricing structure. It did increase my hosting bill quite a bit. Also every now and then I can't find something as there is soo much to it so I have to talk to my hosting company. So it can be a bit complicated until you learn it. It's familiarity and ease of use means that nearly every web host I use is a matter of choosing based on service and pricing rather than ease-of-use. Pros With a few odd exceptions, most things are relatively easy to find within cPanel. Because cPanel is so prevalent in web hosting, learning how to use it once means you can re-use the same skills and knowledge even when moving to many other hosts. Most functionality is straightforward enough that someone with minimal knowledge can find their wat around and make changes if needed. Cons Some web hosts still use outdated versions of cPanel which are harder to navigate and use. It would be nice if cPanel somehow operated like cloud software where all hosts are automatically using the most up-to-date version. Not sure if that's technically feasible. From the handful of web hosts I've used, I've noticed that often there is functionality in cPanel that is duplicated outside in the web hosts own interface, and as a result changes made to some aspects of a hosting service done within cPanel don't actually do anything. This is frustrating and usually results in a call to my hosts tech support unless the solution is obvious. I wish that those duplicated functions in cPanel would just redirect me to the right place. Some of the language in the platform can be ambiguious, although that said, I'm not a professional dev - just a hobbyist so perhaps with more background knowledge that wouldn't be an issue. Pros I primarily use cPanel to access our WordPress installation as well as File Manager, primarily when verifying that "deleting" a plugin has actually deleted all of the associated files and folder. I also make use of the backup/restore feature when things go wrong during configuration. I made use of the DNS Zone access feature in the past when using my web host's DNS servers. In general, I have found cPanel to be a solid graphic UI for my server and WP installation. Cons They change the UI occasionally which takes some getting used to. Or maybe if you have multiple websites and you want to easily manage those. Earlier before knowing about WHM, we used to keep a excel file for all cpanel access and its user name and passwords. Plus we had to buy each hosting account everytime when a client asked for. Life is quite easy for me after knowing about WHM. Pros Extremely easy to understand terminologies. Managing WHM is so easy, in terms of logging via cpanel and then any account in your reseller. Website management becomes so easy. Otherwise earlier we used to manage each hosting one by one. Cons User Interface can be improved a lot. It shows quite a many error and memory status while creating a new account. Pros It's very easy to setup. The vendor offers terrific support services. Is a very solid piece of software which has never failed on more than 10 years. We can decide which features are available for the end customer and which not. We are able to customize the service delivered to every customer if needed. Cons We'd like the vendor to implement or at least enable some API to integrate security measures like vulnerability assessment, code analysis etc. WHM has some nice security features but most times those are not enough to stop end customers from uploading defective code which results on security breaches. I am particularly happy with how easy it is to manage WordPress installations through Softaculous, and how easy it became to update WordPress since they rolled out the update that lets you create staging versions. All the server settings are easily available through a simple interface making server management a walk in the park! Pros cPanel is my favorite part of web hosting management. All the options are available at the click of a button. Webapps are easy to install and set up, and there are very handy file and email managers available.
