Assistant Superintendent of Instruction Education Management Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Kalpa is Great for Professional Development Management" April 26, 2019 5.0 We have been using this product for years and we highly recommend it. If you do have any trouble setting up or maintaining your system, the customer service department at Kalpa is top notch. They can help with anything. Pros Kalpa provides a very user friendly software that allows for flexibility on how you design, implement and track your professional development for your staff. As a school district, we like how we can create customized courses and easily track the completion of the courses by our staff members. Further, our staff likes the Kalpa system because it helps them track the completion of their professional development plan so they can use it to renew their teaching certificates. This product has been a game changer for us in terms of being able to manage professional development hours. Cons It seems to me that Kalpa continues to improve. Thus, I don't have any specific cons. We are always looking for a few more customizable features. One that I can think of is that it is a little tricky to map out PD courses that take place for several days in a row versus one period of time on a single day. Executive Director Education Management Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Best option" April 19, 2019 5.0 In the first year of Kalpa implementation, our organization realized a $40-50,000 savings compared to the cost of our previous system and staff time to manage the previous system. We realized that savings, provided our end users a much more simple and robust solution and advanced our capabilities. Literally a win-win-win. We were the first organization in the state to contract with Kalpa. Since that time, 4 of the other largest school systems in the state have adopted Kalpa based on what they witnessed with us. Pros Operates exactly as needed, always works, support from the vendor is exceptional, the price point is exceptional Cons Nothing, it's an exceptional product. Teacher Education Management Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Kalpa Password Retrieval Saga" November 28, 2020 1.0 I am extremely disappointed with this software, and I would not recommend it for my worst enemy. There is no way for employees to retrieve their passwords when they get locked out, which is way too often. Pros When you are able to access Kalpa, it is moderately user friendly. Cons There is a very important feature missing from Kalpa. If an employee loses his or her password (or the system chooses not to recognize it...), that employee has no convenient way of retrieving his or her password without jumping through many hoops. If you hate your employees and want to make them miserable, use Kalpa... Review Source Response from KALPA Systems December 7, 2020 This is an unfair and incorrect review. The day after Thanksgiving even though we were closed - we contacted Mr. Bell and explained that our KALPA Professional Development Management System is integrated into the network at Fort Smith School District so that his district network password is also the password he uses for KALPA, which is why we aren't able to offer a password reset or retrieval option for him. We instructed him that he needs to speak to someone at the district. This integrated option was designed by the Administration at Fort Smith to make it easier on Mr. Bell and other teachers so they don't have to remember multiple passwords. I contacted the district administrator and his principal and they profusely apologized and stated; "We are extremely happy with the service that KALPA provides and I hope that you do not let this one teacher stain our reputation with you." There is no feature missing and he is being requested to remove this inaccurate and uniformed review. LL Lisa L. Clerical Education Management Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Excellent Service and Support" March 13, 2020 5.0 We have been very pleased with our KALPA experience. There is always someone willing to help you with any issues that may occur and have always gotten a quick response. Pros This software allows us to track all professional development of employees in our district with ease. We conduct 54 hours of professional development a year and have upwards of 100 events in a days time. This service helps us create sign in sheets and track records effectively and easily. Cons We would like to see a report that would allow us to print all sign in sheets for a particular day so that we don't have to push each one individually. Around 4 times a year we have around 100 events to print sign in sheets for and this would make that process a lot faster. Review Source RH Rhoda H. May 3, 2019 5.0 We purchased KALPA software to track and manage professional learning hours for our staff. The district is required to provide documented professional learning opportunities for staff, and we track the hours of our certified staff and report the hours to the state. This software is updated regularly to remain compliant with state reporting requirements. KALPA customer service is first rate!! Pros The software functions as needed. The implementation was a smooth transition. The software is reliable, intuitive, and easy to use. KALPA customer service is prompt to respond and resolve any issues. The software developers carefully consider enhancement requests when submitted by their customers. Cons The software does not integrate with other programs that we use. The sales staff has been great and willing to help when needed. We keep digging in to what KALPA can do for us, and come up with new ideas. Pros Very easy to use the program to fit your individual needs. Can modify the program to include specific needs. Tracks all of our staff hours in one spot. Can create reports for with certain criteria as needed. Sales team willing to help whenever needed, even set up one on one training. Cons Removing a staff member from system, does not delete them from futures courses. Certain hours do not total up into the next year, based on a 3 year status. It always falls to the side because I don't have enough time and I feel like the teacher records are not up to date. Pros It gives teachers an online resource to house their PD for future reference. Cons That in our district it is very dependent on one person and that's me. I would appreciate some helpful one-pagers with how to's for staff and administrators. Pros Electronic record keeping of professional development. Eliminates the need for paper tracking. Cons We are still learning how to best use the software. Training the staff and answering numerous "how to" questions has been time-consuming. However, as with all new software of process changes, once everyone is familiar with this program the benefits will outweigh the challenges. Superintendent Education Management Used the software for: 6-12 months ### "Works for a small district" April 26, 2019 4.0 Pros As a small district our administrators where many hats and KALPA has allowed us to streamline the end of the year process and save hours of manpower hours, which in the end is saving the district money. Cons Each PD session needs to be entered individually, a mass upload would be a nice advancement to the product.
