Pros: It's only fair to say that I still have many things to learn! I've not experienced the insurance side of things yet, and that's a beast all its own. That said...

I find the online "How To" articles helpful and easy to follow. The videos are also helpful most of the time. I have not attempted to reach a person by phone, however, mostly b/c I've not needed to (yet).

Being cloud based was an absolute must.

Love the intuitive and attractive visual interface!

The Client Portal has been easy to incorporate into the company website, and clients find it easy to use. I like being able to initiate the intake process immediately with a client who requests an appointment.

Super like the reminders that help me keep up with what needs to be completed. It has also been helpful to receive an email of my agenda for the day.

Having the flexibility to modify forms or create my own is awesome! It took me some time to understand how, but I got it.

Cons: I prefer structure when I'm just learning how to navigate new software. It is helpful to me to have "How To" guides in an order that leads me through necessary processes. I found myself wondering if I'd completed everything required in a process, was there a tab I hadn't discovered, etc. Having a check list, an order, some sort of structure to remove the mystery as I acclimated would have been reassuring.

Color coding features would be helpful to differentiate between clinicians, insurance companies, etc.

I find the mobile app to be difficult to navigate. Attempting to schedule clients or see what is available is cumbersome. I've since synced the calendar with Google, and that appears to be working more smoothly.

It would be wonderful if there was a way to connect local SP users. I've had questions come up that a user more seasoned than myself could likely answer in five minutes....versus the hour or more I spent chasing rabbits.

Overall: It is obvious that a great deal of thoughtful consideration has gone into the development of this software. While there elements that I would like to see incorporated as a matter of convenience, there are absolutely no deal breakers here! I do have much to learn, but I feel confident that I made the choice for my private practice. Try the free month ~ be impressed!

Pros: **Note: I am very new to Simple Practice and I'm only three weeks in.

What I like most about this is the idea that everything will be located all in one place. No paper files to lug around, reduced costs on printing paper and ink for intakes and informed consents, and I'm excited about having automatic appointment reminders for clients. I like that I can send clients the documents ahead of time so they don't have to spend 20-25 minutes when they first arrive filing out paperwork. We can get started right away. And I appreciate that I can customize the way I contact the clients as their individual preference (some want texts, some want voice messages).

Cons: Although I am fairly tech savvy (I'm the top end of the millennials), I have not found simple practice as user friendly as I had hoped. I have used many support options so far and find the in-person ones most helpful. While trying to create my current intake form into one of the forms and documents...I found it rather nightmare-ish. It was tedious and I felt like it took 10 times longer than it needed to. I was SO glad my 30 minute phone consult had given me the heads up to use the pre-existing template and just change every question so I didn't have to totally re-invent the wheel. I am SO glad the template already existed! But I still felt like I was using a chisel on stone. It felt tedious and painful. I'm glad that's over!

Sometimes I get stuck on the calendar page and haven't yet found the button to default to the normal HOME setting so I have the sidebar. These are small things that I hardly ever have a hard time wasting time on..and yet I found myself not being able to get back there today multiple times.

Not as user friendly as I hoped.

Overall: I am just getting started...I have high hopes yet!

Pros: The design of the software is clean and intuitive, not just the portion experienced by clinicians but also the patient/client portal. I found it easy to create my own templates and appreciate the ability to import the prior note to edit it for each session rather than having to start anew each time I meet with someone. Scheduling both by desktop and by app are very easy to use, allowing to set up repeat appointments. I appreciate the ease of generating superbills and invoices, changing charges and correcting them, and the option of manual inputs of payment if you choose not to use the integrated credit card payment system (Stripe).

I really appreciate the option of "privacy mode" so that patient's full names are not displayed on my calendar.

The 30-day trial was very helpful for ensuring that I was getting what I hoped I was and it was nice to be able to try both the essential and the professional features to figure out which plan made more sense for my practice.

Cons: 1. I think others have mentioned the irritation of not being able to contact someone directly for customer support. Emailing is fine, it's not a huge deal, but it just creates delays with issues that I think could be worked out quickly with a phone call.

2. As a psychiatrist, it would be helpful if there were ways to prominently post the patient's allergies, medications, etc in a way where you wouldn't have to hunt through your prior notes to find them. However, this software is marketed to behavioral health professionals broadly rather than psychiatrists specifically, so I wouldn't expect it to be so tailored.

3. I would like to be able to customize the mini-website that my patients see in more ways than what's currently available.

4. The rates for Stripe seemed a little steep (at least for a solo practitioner) but it's your only option if you want an integrated credit card system. In the end, I am doing that piece with a different service to avoid the higher rates.

Overall: This software keeps me organized, allows me to keep my patient information secure, integrates scheduling/billing/documentation in one place, and offers an app that is well coordinated with the full desktop experience.

Pros: Lots of important pros. 1) Online scheduling and intake, 2) integrated payment processing and auto-pay, 3) cloud based, 4) competitive pricing, 5) very easy to learn, 6) the team is getting faster (slightly) with updates/improvements, 7) works for chiropractic billing now, 8) free online help articles, and 9) free month trial. We looked into so many options, and Simple Practice was clearly the best in our opinion. We're still happy with our choice; the pros outweigh the cons!

Cons: 1) Text reminders: you only have a few options of when they go out, and all options are 24+ before the appointment. A text reminder shortly before greatly reduces no-shows, so it's a major feature missing.

2) Confirming appointments: you can't turn off the need to confirm appointments, and it's time consuming to confirm every. single. appointment. We want the option to turn off confirmation, or at least for some appointment types.

3) Email reminders: you have to turn them on for every patient, and it's not quick to get to it.

4) Sales tax: they don't track it, so you have to manually keep track. You shouldn't use this software if you sell products regularly.

5) Customer service: too slow. Not just initial response time, but how many back and forth emails it takes to get an answer. I tried the live q&a and it didn't get me an answer any faster. Chat would be a big improvement.

6) Group practice: overall it works well. The thing that is lacking is the report to help with payroll. It's confusing and needs better instructions/help articles

7) Online scheduling: overall good. The con is cancelling online. A) it's hard to find, so we get more phone calls than we used to. B) we let patients cancel up to 12 hours beforehand, but the software cuts it off 24 hours before, so we again get more calls than before.

8) Color coding: you can't set the background color of appointments. For us, it would be so helpful to make insurance appointments a different color than self-pay.

Pros: It works relatively well if you have mostly direct pay clients or accept only a couple of insurances. It also works well if you have very few tech problems, your are pretty "techy" and industry knowledgeable to begin with, and you are ok with short answer email responses to any questions you might have.

Cons: There is no one to call. Even if you email asking for a phone call, they won't talk to you. Their customer support consists of sending you video and article links about how to do things. Or emailing you back and forth over the period of weeks or even months. However, if you have an actual, real-time problem, that cannot be fixed by watching a video, and requires someone to actually get on a phone and figure out what is going on- forget it. Your accounts will be hopelessly upside down, which is anything but simple! For example: insurance enrollments or payer reports that require immediate technical support, forget it. They will email you back and forth for months telling you that they submitted to have the problem fixed, as if that fixed your problem. Or they will answer you without addressing the whole problem. If you accept and/or bill multiple insurance companies, keep moving. Simple Practice is not the answer. It's too difficult to move your entire operation to another EHR once you have completely set up with Simple Practice and then you find out months later that there are no "simple" fixes when you have legitimate insurance problems.

Overall: It is simple with respect to face validity. You can navigate around pretty easily without making serious or irreversible mistakes that many of us fear with the technical aspects of EHRs.

Pros: Features, product speed of development, user interface design, ease of implementation.

Cons: reporting, cost if you have a group, the only credit card company support is Stripe's API and they have a minimum of per month volume before they will lower their fee's.

Overall: I have tested out Simple Practice for our group practice and we plan on transitioning to it. It's rare to find a company so well balanced in its direction. The user interface design is well thought out and makes doing otherwise complex procedures simple and straightforward. The documentation and user support is something you would expect from a much larger and more resourced entity. The product development has been very focused and well planned as features are thoughtfully implemented. Some of their competitors seem to decide which features to develop at random.

Simple Practice first popped on my radar in 2012 and they had a beautiful interface, a simple iphone app, but they couldn't do much other than notes and calendaring. Oh, how things have changed. They now take payment, and even do autopay on weekly clients. They simply and beautifully execute therapy notes, have a client portal, process insurance claims, have appointment reminders, treatment plans, calendar sync, and you can have clients signup and schedule directly through simple practice. You can even push them assessments to fill out to add to their records.

I didn't like how their product shows client credit's and debit's. I will say that it seems like there is a more intuitive way to do this for reconciling accounts. When you first look at it, it will confuse you and I am sure it is something they spend time on with each new customer. This surprises me that they have kept it this way since everything else is so intuitive.

The only area I can't speak to is what their reporting looks like. Theranest has a feature I like in their reporting as it shows you by clinician and referral source, who has sent you the most business the stick rate, and things like this. Personally, I would love to be able to see more granular data to know what each clinician is best with matching intakes with treatment outcomes and being able to see each clinician's number of clients who are active and their insurance to private pay ratios. If I were to extend my wishlist, I would like some limited CRM features as well to help with new client inquiries.

All of that said, Simple Practice is the Tesla of therapist EMR's. They are pioneering the field and they know it. I recommend them to all clinicians.

Recommendations to other buyers: It's a rock solid product and is pioneering the field.

Pros: Adding clients in calendar seems relatively easy. Since i have sliding scale i like that i can personalize the amount they pay and keep it clear and organized.

Don't know how it will work, but I am excited to be able to have a credit card payment linked so I don't have to ask clients for their card each time.

Cons: There are a lot of buggy things where you have to add what the system wants vs being able to customize info.

While Adding new clients the option to add an email or address didn't automatically show up, and since I wanted to have all that info for receipts I tried to figure out how to do this. Under editting client info each time I tried to add their email and home address when I pressed save it would automatically change the name and phone number to my name and number. No idea why this would happen? Perhaps a special bonus mindfulness test? This process took twice as long because of this. Eventuslly i figured out if I just added an email and pressed save , then added address and saved again it seemed to be ok. Also cutting and pasting info didn't work. I kept being told it was an invalid email. It doesn't like if there are any extra spaces.

Then adding cpt... I have questions, since I charge more how if will all come together on the invoices/receipts.

I just wanted to upload my forms I created and I did not find this easy. Have yet to figure it out.

Unnerved to even touch the billing / invoicing but that's why i bought the software so I'm waiting to get SP support since my friend who uses it said he's inexperienced with this feature.

Even submitting this review it insisted on me adding an organizational name. What if their isn't one?

Overall: I am a brand new user and apparently made the mistake of trying to set things up over a holiday weekend when SP team is away. That's not their fault. Since I haven't been using it for long I can't comment on all the features, but i will say I'm considering asking for my money back after spending two days adding my client info and getting repeatedly frustrated.

I pretty much just wanted software that would organize my clients info ( dx codes, different fees) so making receipts would be easier. And I was considering online scheduling. I'm not sure this is the best solution. I've been in practice for 14 years and this is my first attempt at using software for note taking. I should also say my growing edge is being patient with technology. I wish i'd just paid someone to set it up for me because I don't find it fun to figure it out.

Once it's all set up maybe I'll love it, but the problem is they sent me this option to review two days after I started data entry.

I'll get more specific in the pro and con section.

Recommendations to other buyers: If you need to add an every other week client there is a way that is hidden and unintuitive. A friend who uses the software helped me figure this out.

Overall: I will be the first to admit that the administrative side of running a psychtherapy office isn't what nourishes me most - it's the relationships with my clients and colleagues that sustain and inspire me. That said, I realize that the administrative aspect of my business is central to building a successful practice so that I can continue to do the work that I love. Finding a practice management system that is effective and intuitive, and built for mental health therapists, has been a game changer. I knew I would find the right system, eventually. SimplePractice fit the bill.

What came as a surprise is the quality of the relationships that I'd build with the customer support professionals at SimplePractice. When getting started, I reached out to customer support about various aspects related to enrollment and billing of Medicare. I had a unique-ish circumstance with my enrollment due to address changes. I had spent a significant amount of time on the phone with Medicare and got as far as I could with them. I reached out to SimplePractice support by email (there's no phone number!) and admittedly, I thought I'd never hear back - that feeling of sending an email out into the universe to float around forever. I had not even registered for SP, yet. Well, I had a response within 1 day. The responder was encouraging, informed, concise and kind (remember I'm all about the relationship). In some ways, I couldn't believe how simple he made it for me, so I clarified with him 2 times! In each rresponse, he remained professional, encouraging, and helpful. It was a dream come true. A technology for therapists that thrive in relationships. A responder that spoke a technology language that I understood. Someone that wanted me to be successful in building my management system. In this age of nameless, faceless interactions, I really felt like "Will" was there to not just answer a question, but to help me be successful in my business.

Pros: SP is easy to use and quite intuitive. The customer service agents are simply amazing - always very kind and unlike many from other companies, they actually take the time to read and write personalized replies instead of sending out a cookie-cutter template. I've asked more questions than I care to remember and every single time, I have received a precise answer with clear, detailed explanations. That, in my opinion, makes it all worth it. It has pretty much all the features I need without going over-the-top with bells and whistles, adding unnecessary bloat like another major service provider.

Cons: There are only two things which come to mind, and they aren't major cons. The first is the inability to fully personalize text messages in another language - we can modify the text reminder; however, the date that is sent with the message remains in english (so in a french message, the date still appears in english - day of the week, month, date, time). Not a major issue, but it would be great to offer an option to convert the whole message into a given language. Second is the ability to add an add-on service for an appointment. For example, I offer animal-assisted therapy to some of my clients. I would love to be able to track how many hours my animals are putting in; as of now, there is no way to add and add-on service, I have to actually enter my co-therapist as a client and "book" him an appointment for his hours to appear somewhere in my logs. Again, not a major issue, it would simply be nice to be able to add additional services to a session.

Overall: I can now easily log my notes without taking up space in my office (I converted from paper files to SP); I can input my notes much quicker; text reminders for clients!! No more no-call-no-shows!!

Pros: I like the Ehr features, how everything is available on my phone or computer. When I worked at an agency, I used Greenway, another electronic system, so this is simply so perfect for my private practice needs - organization, client info, convenience, customizable email templates/forms, all electronic paperwork. I appreciate the Simple Practice team behind the software! When I had an issue, we scheduled screen sharing to work through it and the team is very prompt with email replies. I love that everything is EASY and convenient, so I don't need any paperwork. I also like how stripe is connected and recurrent auto pay is an option. I am private pay, so it's easy to edit the cost of a client's session depending if they are on a sliding scale. Also, there is a "book online" feature, so I have added this to my website and clients are using it! One of my client's mom's loves booking sessions at 11pm and planning for the week ahead, so the feedback is super positive. Love it!

Cons: The app and the safari browse are different. Some things aren't in the app, so I always just keep the browser open. One thing I'd like to improve: there is only room for one person's phone number to get the automated text and voicemail reminders. I see kids and some teens, so I'd like mom, dad, and teen client to each get a text and voicemail reminder about the appointment. It would be great to have two three people's phone numbers to have auto texting reminders sent to them.

Comments: There are many programs out there designed to help keep therapists organized, but this is hands down the best one. For years I have actually avoided buying any of the similar products, because after doing a trial, I found it just easier to use my own system. Other products to me have seemed clunky, confusing, or outdated. As my practice grows, however, keeping track of things on my own had really become too cumbersome. So thank goodness for Simple Practice, it came into my life at just the right moment! It is streamlined, intuitive, and user-friendly. Whenever I have encountered a question, there are quick and easy ways to get the question answered. The site includes a whole blog that has thoughtful answers, written in plain-language. Or if you have a question you can easily email and a person will get right back to you with an answer. I imagine you can also call, though I haven't needed to do that since everything has gone really smoothly!

Here are the things I really like:

-Clients like it. They like the text or email reminder messages and they like the fact that I can store their credit card info, so no more forgetting co-pays of having to fumble with the wallet or the credit card reader. I just bill all my co-pays at the end of the day, and I'm all set. It's also saved time and money by not having to chase people for missed co-pays.

-Easy to enter new patient info, or use the client portal so the patient's can self-enter basic data, and sign forms ahead of time

-Helps me remember which notes are done or not

-Keeps track of my schedule with the calendar feature that is synced up with the also super user-friendly Simple Practice app

-I can scan in hand-written notes right into the patient's chart so everything is paperless

I honestly can't think of any negatives or ways they could improve this product. I haven't started billing insurance companies via Simple Practice yet, so I can't speak to that process. It unfortunately takes awhile for Simple Practice to link with insurance, so if they could speed that up, it would be great, I'm just not sure there is much they can do about that since it's partially up to the insurance company.

Other than that, I would summarize by saying that Simple Practice is saving me time, money and I feel much less stressed because I know everything is organized.

I have used and tested a variety of EHRs and appreciate the simplicity of Simple Practice. There are no unnecessary frills and it serves its documentation and practice management purposes well.

The user interface is clean, visually appealing, and easy to navigate. Features such as automated client appointment reminders, daily schedule emails, and reminders about incomplete documents and client balances are incredibly helpful...especially for a solo practitioner without costly administrative staff. The company appears to be highly responsive to user suggestions and regularly adds new features. The dashboard reports give me real time access to key business intelligence such as monthly income comparisons and projected income for the next month based on scheduled appointments. It's rare to find an EHR that offers all of these features at an affordable price. Clinicians and organizations usually end up cobbling together non-integrated solutions that just don't play well together in the end. Simple Practice simply works.

Perhaps most importantly, the price is fair. There are no exorbitant setup fees. By purchasing a software as a service (SaaS) subscription, you're not paying for servers or clunky software that's outdated by the time you install it. You don't need an IT person to install, maintain, debug, or upgrade anything. If you change your mind, you're free to cancel your monthly subscription without incurring contract penalties. It is highly intuitive so you can skip the usual wordy product documentation, confusing webinars, or expensive onsite trainings. The trial period is more than adequate to become familiar and determine if it's right for you.

If you are looking for a highly customizable system, this is not likely the best solution for you. With ongoing development, this might become less of an issue. You are currently limited to pre-defined templates and forms. In our heavily litigious landscape, we tend to go overboard on documentation or end up collecting data because we can. In some ways, I think Simple Practice is saving us from ourselves by keeping it "as simple as possible, but not simpler."

If you're in the market for a web-based EHR that's accessible from anywhere, affordable, and easy to use, I recommend exploring Simple Practice.

Pros: Everything you need to run a practice is available and very well done. Once you learn your way around it becomes easier to navigate. There are many different options and lots of information in the help section if you need help. It's streamlined for complete (100%) EHR functionality. Smooth integrations for payment. I love the HIPAA compliant messaging in the patient portal and the calendar scheduling options for patients to see your schedule and choose a time without needing to call the office for an appointment. The awesome feature of video sessions without the need to use another company or software.

Cons: I find the navigational structure very awkward and not user friendly. It's kind of frustrating to figure out where things are because things aren't in a logical order. For better ease of use I would recommend that everything is clearly delineated into one menu structure rather than submenus and tab menus. For example: one could easily assume that client documents could be found in the left "Documents" menu link, but unfortunately that link is only for practitioner documents (uploading a copy of license, etc.). To find client documents you have to remember that you need to click "My Account" in the upper right corner, then the "Settings" submenu, then on the left side the "Client Portal" and then find the tab menu "Shared Documents and Files". It just a very strange link menu system.

Pros: The customer support / help support is a clear stand out. No need to feel intimidated about learning because they offer layers of support- classes, video webinars, articles, daily q & a and I suppose I could call- haven't had the need. Another stand out for me is how it is designed with a private practice therapist in mind, which is fantastic not to have a lot of 'guess work' or having to adjust something else to work for me. Their professionalism in upholding our ethical and legal standards puts me at ease and would be reason alone to give simple practice a look. Also...NO PAPER! That's just fantastic.

Cons: There is a learning curve (depending on your comfort level with technology, it could be larger than others). That's the biggest con. Fortunately there is a one month free trial (they don't even ask for your credit card information during that time) and during that month there are plenty of supports to help teach you the system and have time to practice with it. There are a few more minor adjustments that can't be edited because of the system, but no big deal at all. It's fantastic.

Overall: My experience has been very positive as this software is catered to meet the needs of my private practice as a counselor. It addresses many of the components of running a practice that therapists find daunting. Just for the sheer support in these areas, this software system is worth it.

Recommendations to other buyers: I'm super happy and feel that it's well worth the investment- financially and also the investment of time to learn the system. It will eventually reward you more time to focus on your practice and not so much of the scheduling/paper work. Plus it makes your practice instantly look so much more professional, current and the laws are written to lead us toward more cloud-based systems for keeping records.

Pros: Simple practice makes form creation so user-friendly, even myself who isn't very tech savvy figured it out. The more I use simple practice the more I uncover quick easy ways to get my needs met. When I am unable to figure something out the help team is so quick and responsive and points me in the right direction so I don't have to spend all of my time searching for the answers. The support I receive from simple practice has been the best experience and I am so thankful to have them. When you are first learning the process they have numerous videos and scheduled classes to get you started which are incredibly helpful. I have taken a look at other EHR systems and they were confusing and were not geared towards therapists, simple practice gave me all the forms necessary for my practice and then i tailored them to fit my individual practice needs.

Cons: There are a few parts of simple practice that cannot be customized that I want to customize, although they are constantly making changes based off of clinicians feedback so this isn't a huge concern of mine.

Overall: Making my private practice streamline and saving me time and energy so I can use that energy elsewhere.

Pros: We have moved from an accounting software, Google Calendar and a person to do the medical billing with Simple Practice. I love the relative ease of the software and the fact that I can have everything in one place. There is great support and documentation for self-help. We are a practice with only one practitioner but we are growing in leaps and bounds! Simple Practice is making our growth so much easier!

Cons: There are some small issues that I have experienced. The biggest issue was the sight being down one morning and not being able to access the calendar or any of our client information. We are still using Google Calendar as well since we are less than a month in for our transition so I was able to see the information. There was no way to contact Simple Practice by phone and the entire site was down. I had no way of knowing how long the downtime would be. I would have liked to have been able to get an update since we were seeing clients.

The only other issues are minor conveniences. Color coding on the calendar for different types of clients would be helpful. A full screen version of the calendar rather than the nested calendar would be nice. Customized reports would also be helpful. I would also love a support option that allowed for East Coast offices when we open.

Overall: Overall, I am impressed and very satisfied with our Simple Practice subscription!

Pros: It is somewhat intuitive and it looks good, welcoming. I also like having the app for my phone. We like that you can schedule clients for repeating sessions two and three weeks between sessions regularly. The client portal is needed. We really like being able to do our intake packets online, and that we can change them up so easily. Love how when clients fill these out they are seamlessly put into cleint files and this shows in the client info.

Cons: The couple set up is terrible. And we are a couples counseling group practice. I can't even get each partner's phone number or email without going into two separate files. If I link them - find a way for me to contact both of them by seeing both of their contact info together. Also when i look thru my client list, it far too difficult to find my couples. If i mark them as couples and link them, let them show as couples in the client list. Many couples aren't married and do not have the same last name. It's just too hard to find them and to send both partners text messages or emails. I don't like texting or emailing individual partners - I need to send info to both at the same time. Very difficult to do presently.

By far the worst part of all of our experiences (8 of us) has been customer service. We need to talk or chat online to people that can help, not wait a full day or two to hear back. It's archaic. At least open up live chat asap!!!

Comments: I am going full-time in my private practice right now, and in this transition process I did a LOT of research about practice management software programs. I narrowed my search down from 9 to a final 4 (Simple Practice, Therapy Notes, Theranest, and Therasoft). What really sold me on Simple Practice were two things: the client intake portal and flexible pricing.

The client intake portal is simply incredible! You can use their ready-made forms or customize them to your own individual needs. With only a few clicks you register a client, which sends them a link to fill out the forms online. Then you get an email when they've completed the forms and the information is automatically placed into the client's chart. This includes office policies, HIPPA, agreement for services, full intake questionnaire, and payment/insurance information as well. Amazing! No more printing paper forms, copying insurance cards, or scanning things to upload to the file later. This seriously makes my life so much easier.

The flexible pricing is nice because I can have full functionality now, at the basic level, but I can upgrade to process insurance claims once I have more clients coming in through their insurance plans. And now there's also the possibility to upgrade for online scheduling and secure emailing once my practice fills up! I think the online scheduling in particular is going to save me from all the time spent back-and-forth emailing or calling with clients trying to reschedule their appointments.

More things I love about Simple Practice:

- Easy credit card payment processing. Just a few clicks and the money is deposited directly into my account. No more invoicing or spending session time swiping a card.

- Sync with Google Calendar.

- Easy scheduling and rescheduling appointments.

- Automatic appointment reminders sent to clients, however they wish to receive them (text, email, voicemail)

- Auto-populating insurance forms and tracking of claim reimbursement (Admittedly I haven't been able to test this yet, but I'm sure it works just as well as everything else does with this software.)

- Great customer service. I emailed about an issue syncing my calendar and I heard back very quickly with a resolution.

I really do wish that I had been using this software even when I was only part-time in my practice. It definitely would've been worth the money for the amount of time it saves doing the mundane business tasks of running a therapy practice.

Pros: It has everything that I need to start my practice. I love it's simple use quality and the fact that I am able to have potential new patients to schedule from my website with booking widget and have existing patients receive all necessary documents via the patient portal. I also love that I can securely communicate with patients via the secure messaging system!

Cons: This software would be absolutely perfect if we could better edit (choose font, bold, italicize, etc.) practice documents such as policies and note templates, including the ability to have our business logo show up on these documents as well (because they show up on some documents such as therapy notes and some bills). The ability to e-prescribe and to receive referrals and send referrals to other health professionals would be the absolute best and Simple Practice would have a life long customer in me!

Overall: Everything I need to jump start my private practice! I am able to communicate with my patients via the patient portal without difficulty. All documents can be sent and received via the portal, which is amazing! The software is so easy to use and the updates with the software, teaching videos, etc. are excellent tools!

Pros: The ease in using the software. Everything is simple to enter and simple to keep on top of. I especially love the to do list it creates so I know exactly who needs to be billed, what progress notes need to be written, etc.

Cons: About half my practice is children so I would like to see the client info section reflect more of those details pertaining to children - i.e. ability to differentiate between contact numbers (Mom or Dad), basic information such a school name and grade.

Overall: I've been in private practice for 3 years now and Simple Practice is the third EMR that I have tried. I am so happy I did! I had heard of Simple Practice for awhile and for some reason thought it was too expensive so I was pleasantly surprised when I discovered it was about the same as I had been paying with the others. The cost structure is very reasonable and I appreciate the different levels offered depending on need. I can't say enough about how user friendly this software is which makes all the difference! As most clinicians can attest to documentation is the least favorite part our jobs and Simple Practice has made that process much easier for me. Previous software seemed to involved multiple steps to enter a client's info or write a progress note. I've found Simple Practice to be as easy as using my iphone or ipad. Everything I need is all right there in a way that makes sense to the user. I don't have to search for the every day actions I use such as progress notes, scheduling, billing, etc. It's all right there in a format and presentation that's easy to find and even easier to use. I also love the flexibility of the app which has been a great addition. I'm able to access client's contact information whenever I need without jeopardizing HIPAA and confidentiality. Overall, this is the best software I've found out there and it has made the paperwork and bookkeeping end of my practice as easy as ever. I couldn't be more grateful!

Recommendations to other buyers: Use it! Take advantage of the 30 day free trial and you'll see how beneficial this software can be to your practice!

Pros: Simple Practice has a fairly intuitive, very attractive user interface with many great features. I can do all the basic things I need to run my private practice such as keeping my calendar, adding new clients, writing notes, and tracking my billing. In addition Simple Practice has great additional features like syncing with my Google calendar, customizing all my intake documents and all my client emails which I send through the secure client portal, tracking my insurance payments even though I don't submit claims through the software, and great data metrics,. It's been a bit of a learning curve to figure out how to do everything I need to and even all the features that are available, but the responsive, knowledgeable customer service is a big help. I am extremely happy with the software.

Cons: The interface of the app leaves a lot to be desired. The calendar function is hard to use and the app doesn't do much else. It's difficult to add new appointments quickly on the app when I'm sitting with a patient because of the weird calendar formatting.

Overall: As I expanded my private practice from one day a week to full time I needed a better way to track my expenses than a spread sheet and to schedule and communicate with my patients. Simple Practice has really streamlined all my processes and I discover new things it can do all the time. I would never have been able to expand my practice to successfully and smoothly without it.

Pros: It has everything I would need. Well thought out and seemingly efficient. Difficult to get started and if you need help there is ZERO phone service.

Cons: Difficult to figure out without a walk through with a rep. They won't speak to you on the phone nor will they refer you to someone willing to HELP. I had a family emergency right after I paid for a full year in advance. I was unable to use the software and the weeks and months were melting away. I tried immediately to get someone to help me but they would not. Finally after 8 months, lots of Tweets, someone paid attention and helped me out but not without a huge amount of stress and aggravation added to an already stressful family illness. I want to use the software when I am better able but I can't support a company that cannot think outside the box! They won't even allow me to speak to someone in charge of customer service. It appears that if a customer has something of different concern, they can't handle helping the customer come to a satisfactory solution. I kept getting the same answer over and over and over and was NOT being heard. (the rep was ). Extremely frustrating and only minimal apparent concern for what trouble I had to advocate for myself. Not everything comes in the form of "cut and dried" run of the mill stuff. My situation was unique and they didn't seem to care one bit.

Overall: None. I was unable to set it up without a lot of aggravation and never got to the point of being able to use it due to a family emergency.

Pros: The insurance check auto posting feature. It is superb, far above other softwares I have used. The at a glance feature allows for quick and easy checks of balances

Cons: The invoice feature is redundant and ineffective. This feature allows for balances to be created, but can also create incorrect balances. In this case all invoices need to be deleted an recreated. Posting payments is always to the balance rather than Date of Service. Copays become part of the balance even if insurance hasn't paid. Customer service can not be reached by phone. Help can be time consuming and arduous as both parties try to decipher email.

Overall: The cons out weigh the pros in this software, with only one redeeming amazing process.

Pros: Integrated credit card processing, Client portal for HIPPA compliant communication, safe payments, secure messaging, and online scheduling. I love that you can scan business documents for storage, and that I now have an EHR that integrates with payments, scheduling, insurance, and note taking. Great feature that you can send intakes securely for clients to complete before they come to the office.

Cons: I wish it integrated better with Quickbooks.

I wish the insurance features were faster (drop down box is very slow for choosing insurance providers) and the list is not as complete as I hoped

I'd prefer an online landing page for online scheduling so clients could schedule without going through the client portal if they chose to do so

Online schedule should have a feature for infinite recurring appointments just for ease sake.

Key con to me so far: They need phone support. Especially upon set up, it would just be nice to make a quick call and get unstuck rather than having to set up a video 1:1 or read through their support materials. For the price of the product, though, I see why this might be a challenge to provide.

Overall: Lower cost than what I was doing before with a separate insurance billing product, online scheduler, and credit card processing feature. Eventually, this will help me go almost completely paperless.

Comments: I'm all for EHR, But somehow when it came to starting and running my PP, I found I was relying on WAY too much paper.

I created forms and such, but would end up printing them out to complete by pen/paper, or typing, saving and filing them.

I didn't know where to start in terms of EHR software. I didn't know if I wanted something cloud based (sounded scary...where's my DATA?!) or on my computer (false sense of security...same as when people as more afraid of flying than driving even though one is much more likely to die in a car crash than in a plane crash... that illusion of control).

I started to look into the whole EHR issue, I got wrapped up in "meaningful use" etc. Thank goodness they didn't, because I could never have afforded the several thousand $$ those "CMS approved" systems cost!

I finally tried out a few EHR products concurrently with test data and some with live data. The first couple I tried were dreadful! Much more geared to the medical professionals or larger practices with prescribers.

So, then I tried Simple Practice. Loved the interface, very clean and didn't have to "overlook" or "ignore" parts that were not meant for me. Tried it out with test and live data. Even talked at length with the CEO before signing up to see what they will be offering in terms of upgrades in the future. I LOVE that the product is ever evolving and from any screen, one can submit a question, comment or suggestion and get a reply right away. I hesitated at first because the product hadn't been around FOREVER, like some of the others on the market, but I found that makes it more agile and fresh feeling than the others I tried. I appreciate the constant upgrades and improvements.

Having the product for the whole calendar year in 2014 will help tremendously when I do my taxes. I like the integrated billing with Stripe for Credit Cards and the ease of providing a super bill to my clients is amazing.

And the price. Very fair/competitive. I liked being able to get a lower rate if paying all at once, with the ability to cancel anytime.

Lastly my data. I am confident that it is safe and secure. I have never experienced any downtime with Simple Practice and if I ever decide I want a download of my data, they provide it right away, no charge. They made it clear that no matter what happens, MY DATA is MINE.

Overall very happy with my choice!

Pros: The app is fairly simple to learn and the support team is very good at quickly and patiently answering questions.

SimplePractice makes it very easy to create CMS1500 forms for invoicing insurers.

Adding sessions to the calendar and setting up a client are both pretty easy to do.

Cons: There are certain pieces of the functionality that take more clicks than seem necessary or that are simply complicated. For example, you apparently have to create invoices in order for the amounts due for sessions and the amounts paid to be reconciled. This seems awkward, since I don't need or want invoices for every client, or I might want an invoice only once in every month or two.

Similarly, if you create an event (a therapy session) on the calendar, you have to save it and reopen it in order to add a payment. This adds an extra step.

I like the idea of storing progress notes online, but haven't figured out how to do that efficiently because I usually start notes during the session and complete at the end of the day. Using a computer or tablet during a session seems awkward, even disrespectful.

The online help and instructions don't seem to cover some basic issues, like how to deal with a changed insurance plan.

Overall: Relatively easy calendar and billing features.

Very responsive customer service.

Pros: Design is basically user friendly and attractive. I liked the client portal and the reminders. I very much like the ability to do my intake via the client portal. The connection with Stripe is good. I like doing notes with this program.

Cons: Non-existant customer service. To the point that I'm considering canceling my subscription. If the client portal doesn't work--then what are you paying for? There is not an email or phone number for technical assistance. If you have a problem, they just send you emails about videos to watch. No responsibility for their program if it has a glitch. I'll be happy to change my review if someone will add a more user friendly way to get technical assistance.

Overall: The software is not bad. The problem is that if you have a problem with it, there is no help. Right now the client portal is not showing all my available times to clients. This is a huge problem, because it makes clients think that I'm full when I'm not. I understand that sometimes there are troubles, but my real frustration with the company is that they don't have a good system for technical assistance. I've been requesting help with this for a week and have gotten nothing. That's bad!

Comments: Pretty easy to set up considering how many clients I had to transfer to the new program. I like the way the calendar syncs with my ical. I like having all the information in the cloud so I can access on all of my devices (mac, iPad, iPhone). Entering appointments and payments works well. The client portal is a good way to get new clients into the system.

There are several things that I have not been able to work out thus far and I do not think the support has been that good. There seem to be a limited number of features to get help with and thus far my email question did not give me a very good answer. I tried the 800 number but have not as yet heard back. Not sure what the turn around time on that is. Biggest problem comes with the billing. There seems to be no way to put past due balance on the superbill or to include no show appointments that need to be paid by the client even if they are not to be paid by insurance. When the balance due does not match the services provided for that month it is confusing for the client. Also not sure how to print a client face sheet to put in a paper chart. Several other questions I have not been able to find answers to. Hope to get more help when I talk to a live person.

Overall, I am hopeful this will turn out to be a flexible enough program to allow me to make it work for my practice. I have only been trying it for 4 weeks.

(Updated 8/5): Just got off the phone with Howard at Simple Practice in response to my earlier review. He shared that simple practice prides itself in very good and prompt customer service. To that end he had called earlier today but did not leave a message. He was very attentive to all of the concerns raised and explained how as simple practice continues to grow and modify its product there may be ways to manage the issues that I raised. He explained how the company develops the software to be attentive to its customers needs and must weigh pros and cons of certain features based on feedback of the users. So I am revising my earlier comments to say that Howard at Simple Practice was indeed responsive to my concerns about the program and seems to be working very hard to make a product that is easy to use and responsive to the varied demands of its customers. Kudos to him and his company for that.

Comments: I think it is a good system, I am used to a different more involved state system. SP is not always clear so for me it is difficult to navigate. For example there are too many steps to change the calendar. I added a staff and emailed her that I did but I am not certain if SP sends her info to access the system. The billing is problematic in that it is far too cumbersome for client's to find their own insurance from drop down menu when I send them documents. I cannot even find them. I won't be using your billing portion but that is how they enter their pre intake information. I am particularly stymied by the Login page that has my incorrect login on it but it and my password in dots show up every time I go to the page. It needs to be removed and I have not been able to do it and SP has not done it. It is a security risk and the system will not allow me to change my sign in name. I do get many emails that I will receive answers but the answers are not quick to come. I am well versed in EHR and I think this is a good product but for me it has many glitches and small things to learn, lots of small things, such as is the note part of the intake for the client or for the clinician. How to return to finish an intake is cumbersome, and finding info I know has been entered is a challenge. I am certain once I use it more often it will fall in place. Good but needs improvements. Also, needs a pkg for those not using the billing as it really gums up the process. I recommend it for small clinics or solo practitioners. I did solve some of my issues by upgrading but then I lost 10 days of my free trial.

Pros: I love that the software is all inclusive and compliant. As a student doing an internship, I don't necessarily have access to the resources of a big established practice. Once my internship is complete, I expect to be able to simply make a few profile changes and move right into my own practice with the software. As a student, every penny counts, and the monthly charge is manageable for me.

Cons: My least favorite feature is that website function. I understand why you wouldn't want to change your client portal URL on a whim, but once I am ready to start my own practice, it looks like I will have to create a new account to update my client portal URL which is a bit of a bummer.

Overall: Because I have multiple intern sites, I can easily manage my case files from either location and that is a huge plus for me. I have not yet had the need for several of the functions available such as billing insurance, but it looks just as simple as everything else and I expect it will be as easy as the insurance providers allow.

Pros: It's comprehensive. Undoubtedly, you can do a lot of things with it. I think it's competitively priced as well.

Cons: It's not always intuitive. Some things are really confusing. Their support is not as robust as it should be for busy working clinicians who do not have time to dig for needles in a haystack on the site, looking for answers. I sent a question to support and got an answer that read like it was cut and pasted from a few different scripts. It didn't directly answer my question. I would prefer live chat via phone and/or IM to communicate with a human being in real time to get questions answered. I also think that the onboarding process could be improved. I am getting a lot of emails from SimplePractice that talk about different facets of setup and day-to-day function, and it's actually kind of overwhelming. I signed up for one of the live overview sessions a few weeks ago, and the person leading it was going too fast, and wasn't that clear.

Overall: I haven't used it long enough to say--I just started working with it a few weeks ago.

Cons: The aesthetic look and feel of the notes and intake/practice policy forms and the lack of advanced editing/formatting tools. There has already been a lot of improvement in this area since I started with SimplePractice and I've been told more is on the way.

Overall: I decided to try SimplePractice first as an intern and it made my life SO much easier than colleagues who were using Word for notes, Excel for tracking payments, some separate program or a paper calendar for scheduling etc. Now since graduating, I've become part of management at the organization I was an intern at and have implemented SimplePractice for the entire internship program. There have also been two separate occasions where a feature wasn't working how I anticipated or didn't exist yet and both times, SimplePractice has been able to make the changes I suggested - they take suggestions from their customers very seriously! I will never not use SimplePractice!

Pros: The ability to have patients book online is helpful. I really like being able to send pt's intake forms as soon as they book online and being notified when they have completed all documentation. It is pretty simple to set up your availability and schedule appointments. It is easy to keep track of pt's balances and generate invoices. Although, I haven't used the pre-payment feature yet, I think that will be a great feature to be able to utilize. The amount of storage they provide is great!

Cons: It would be nice if information from forms would flow or populate automatically into evaluation or tx notes. Having additional options when creating notes templates would be helpful, the choices are a little limited. I find that I end up with a lot of free text in my notes, which takes a little longer to document. I would like to be able to better distinguish my clinicians for clients when scheduling online. The customer support team is very responsive; however, it would be helpful if there was a number to call to resolve issues quicker at times. There are certain problems I had that took several back and forth emails, that I think if I could have spoken with someone the problem would have been resolved quicker.

Pros: There are so many things I like about this software...the ease to use, the ability to incorporate my needs (forms, documents), great support, the telehealth option, the messaging section...with just beginning in the mental health profession, this software makes it super easy to work on being successful.

Cons: If I had to pick a con, it would be that client's can not attach documents in the portal. For example, I send out homework on a word document, but they cannot complete it and send it back through the portal. Though I call this a con, what is great about the SimplePractice team, is that they are continually working to make the software better and more user friendly. They are working on this concern as I type. So, that is why I have a hard time picking out a con...the team is here to make the process easier and more efficient.

Overall: Having just graduated and began my professional endeavors, I have not had a lot of EHR experience. That I used in internship was very unfriendly for the user and I was not impressed. I came across SimplePractice, took it for a spin and was enthralled with the ease of the software program and the willingness of the team to help. I have attended several classes thus far and I am going to use my one-on-one soon. I look forward to this program being a part of my success.

Pros: Our group likes keeping things paper free (for the most part) by completing intakes, chart notes, contact notes, and initial paperwork online. It saves us time when parents can do paperwork online and we don't have to worry about them mailing in forms or taking time to fill them out in the room with us. Secure messaging makes it easy to touch base with clients and assist with scheduling. Online scheduling reduces our time spent on the phone to reschedule folks. It's great to be able to keep everything in one place whether it's designed in the SP templates, or we upload our own stuff, it's still all right there.

Cons: The group features could use a little love. We have interns in our practice, and currently, they are not able to send notes to the supervisor without locking them (which means they are no longer able to edit). This feature would save us time (we found a workaround but it does take effort). Also, the administrator has to turn on/off secure messaging and it would be great for clinicians to be able to make these choices. The treatment plan is also not customizable and the format currently used does not meet our needs. It takes extra time to upload treatment plans (as we do not use the SP version) however at least we have that capability!

Overall: It saves our practice time, less money spent on office supplies, and easy chart organization.

Pros: *I like the ease of the email system to the clients, their ability to fill out paperwork, and it being instantly uploaded onto the client portal system. All of my clients have reported it being simple, straightforward, and enjoyed doing the paperwork at home when they had time.

*Setting up a client in the client portal is quick and easy.

*So far, the customer service has been great. Their response is quick and informative.

*Great getting started videos and blogs.

Cons: *Sometimes it is not as intuitive or simple as one would think. If you do not use the calendar function it becomes difficult to add a note, a biopsychosocial or another document if needed. It was difficult to find the "how to" in the help? part of simple practice. I have used other platforms where it is a simple drop down of date, time, and type of session with a tab that includes all medical, intake, treatment plan information.

*The treatment plan is also not intuitive. Struggling to find ICD-10 codes outside of the ones listed is challenging. You have to go to the help? section again for information. Which is not great when this is supposed to be simple and easy.

*I felt like the getting started videos and blogs covered a lot of information but did not cover the clinician side enough, outside of "getting started".

Overall: Simple for the clients, which is what I needed. Easy access for them and the ease of completing paperwork with no hassle.

Pros: Ease of having all my files stored electronically, able to do notes and billing anywhere

Cons: The transition from a group to solo practice was horrible and totally time consuming. Support was unclear and I literally spent hours having to transition my account.

Overall: I like keeping all my files secure and convieniently located. Customer service was prompt when I complained, but otherwise it takes forever to get clear answers to my questions and is a little difficult to submit a request.

Pros: I like the simplicity and the price of the software. We were previously using a software that had a lot of extra features that we weren't using and for a higher cost. So this has been an improvement in that area. As well as getting quick responses from customer service. We were slightly concerned about not having someone to call but the email responses have been helpful and rapid. Also appreciate the ability to send intake forms online and have them put right into the system so that we can save on paper and time in the office.

Cons: The only real problems we have had with this software is the mobile app crashing. Some of the employees had no problems and others couldnt even open the app on the phone. (the phones software was updated, the app was updated, phone turned on and off, logged off and signed in)Customer service had responded that they sent out a couple of updates for the app and it seemed to work after that. Also, would like to see more features available on the app. And be able to see full names for 15 minute slots in the 'week view' but those are all just personal preferences for our specific practice.

Overall: Simple, straight forward scheduling and book keeping.

Comments: After several months of comparing different office management programs for my psychology practice I chose to go with SimplePractice due to a very positive customer service experience where the CEO called me directly within an hour of an email I sent to customer service expressing features I would like to see the software include. Howard spent about 30 minutes of his time talking to me about planned updates and feature improvements, while at the same time taking my concerns and ideas into consideration. This sold me, but let me address some of the things I talked to Howard about that I would like to see the program be able to do.

I would like to see more features including scheduling, accessing clients notes, and accounting features added to the mobile interface with SimplePractice. Currently I can only access schedule and create new appointment, but I can't access individual clients notes, or manage the accounting through my mobile phone. Additionally, with SimplePractice I would like to see a way to send outcome questionnaires, periodically, to my clients. Finally, I would like to have a more robust templates in the progress notes.

The features I like about the program include but is not limited to What I like about the price point of $36 monthly or $24 per month if paid in annual lump sum, most affordable of the office manager programs I have used. Next I like the simple uncomplicated interface in setting up clients and scheduling them quickly (i.e. being able to set up a first appointment with only patients name, telephone number and email). Additionally, being able to check a box that then sends the clients an email link to my initial intake, HIPPA, and practice policy forms, that I have set up in the SimplePractice template saves me time and my clients provided me with favorable feedback about being able to complete these forms on their mobile devices. These forms once completed are automatically uploaded into the clients electronic file within simple practice. Making my records completely electronic.

Pros: The calendar interface is pretty good. However, the limitations, while few, are glaring deficiencies. Good for a solo practitioner

Cons: The customer support is horrible. It takes days of email back and forth to get even the simplest task accomplished. No phone support, none, can't even find a number.

Interface has no customization. Would be nice to be able to change the colors and other parts of the session and/or appointment.

We are moving to a different program. The customer service is the biggest reason. I need support now when a patient is in front of me. Not "matbe" tomorrow, but more likely in a few days.

Overall: Learned about electronic claims processing. Also learned what I don't want or will need in a more robust product.

Pros: SimplePractice has named its business well. I truly feel that it has made my journey as a new private practice owner so simple. I have appreciated the ease of sending clients my paperwork through the client portal feature. I also love the integration of Stripe for credit card processing; with AutoPay I don't have to lift a finger to get paid each evening. Superbills, invoices, and statements are very easy to generate on the spot for clients. The scheduling component also has a clean look. I also really like the automated text reminders to clients. In my first month of business, I've zero no-shows or late cancels. In what could have been a very stressful transition to becoming a new private practice owner, SimplePractice truly eased my mind.

Cons: In the future I would like a better option for scheduling family counseling for siblings. Right now the software has great features for individual and couples sessions, but not to add family members (at the moment I have to treat family members like a couple and make sure my coding is accurate on their statements).

Additionally, creating some of my own intake forms took a while with the way that is featured in the software but I do appreciate that I have the ability to even create my own forms.

Overall: My experience has been exceptional and I will recommend this software hands-down to anyone who is starting their own practice!

I have used this software for approximately two months, gradually getting all my data organized.

Comments: I really needed support in keeping my patient files and other documentation organized and in one easy place so I have been happy to have discovered SimplePractice. I think the software is generally intuitive for me (although there is bit of a learning curve), not too bad because I have been trained in electronic record keeping and billing. I really like the feature of Practice Documents such as Privacy Policy, Informed Consent, etc., which really helped me set up a professional presentation to new clients. I like how the software supports me to process the MSE and treatment plans, which can be pushed to the back burner sometimes in private practice. I also really like the statement and superbill feature, the intake documetation support feature (especially with the email to new clients and online submission), and text reminders. I like the calendar and how it keeps me organized with payments, CPT codes, and notes. Overall, I really like this product and think it will help me keep organized!

The Costumer Service has been stellar; I have emailed a few questions and received clear and friendly answers right away.

Cons, well, I would like to be able to edit the CPT codes when I review the billing details for a client, prior to generating a statement or superbill, when I sometimes notice that the code is incorrect. It seems that I have to go back to the calendar and the particular session date in order to edit a session code, and that is cumbersome.

It also doesn't seems to make sense that I have to go into "Client Portal" under my Settings in order to view my practice documents such as Privacy Policy etc. I think there should be a separate link on the left hand side just for the various documents to be accessed and reviewed. I would also like to be able to email clients through the software in order to keep records of such communications, but I am not sure yet if I can do that.

The learning curve for everything takes time, but it is a complex system of documentation, so I accept that. Overall, I like it very much!

Pros: Online scheduler, online paperwork and online notes

Overall: I signed up for Simple Practice to help me save me time so that I can focus on helping my clients. I have only been using it for a month but here is my feedback so far. In terms of my progress notes, it has saved me a lot of time. I used to type my notes, print them out, sign each note, punch holes in the paper and then put it in a paper chart. Now I just have to type the note and I'm done. My clients haven't received their superbills yet, but this should save me time, too, as I won't have to print and sign them. I am hopeful that the online scheduler will save me time and help me connect easier with new clients wanting an initial consultation. There are a few things I wish were different (HIPAA compliant email, more reports, in-time customer service) and I know some are in the works, so hopefully they'll show up soon. I am still learning how to use everything and it has taken me a lot of time to set it up to my preferences and learn how to use it, but I continue to be hopeful that it will save a lot of time in the long run.

Recommendations to other buyers: it would be helpful to be able to generate more reports, like show and no-show rates per week or month, stats on client demographics and diagnoses; also interested in secure email option.

Pros: I love that all of what I need for my practice is in one place. The ease of using Simple Practice helps me keep client interactions confidential. If I ever have a question, the customer service staff are willing to assist either via email or a one-on-one consultation. Submitting insurance claims is easy and takes just a minute for each one. I am so happy to use this software in my counseling practice.

Cons: At times, the insurance and invoices have become complicated. However, as mentioned, there is always help for that.

Overall: All of my private practice needs can be contained in this software. Once learned, it is easy to maneuver, and the staff are wonderfully helpful.

Pros: Simple Practice has been extremely helpful in getting our new practice going. I have experience with online management systems from my previous work and would rank Simple Practice at the top of the list. The structure is intuitive and when you do have a question online tutorials have been broken down so that very specific questions can be asked and helpful answers are provided. It is a user friendly system. Further, information entry regarding clients is easy and interconnected from the schedule to the DAPP notes.

When I had a question outside of the online support framework, a case manager was assigned, facilitated the change we needed, and then checked to make sure it worked well.

Cons: When I started with the basic version, it was unclear what functionality was and was not available because I was unfamiliar with the Simple Practice terminology. Providing an exemplar of Basic vs. Professional might be helpful.

Overall: Simple Practice has been an asset that I look forward to continue using.

Pros: I really liked how customizable the intake forms and progress notes are, as my focus is not a standard therapy practice. Scheduling is easy, and the client portal makes intakes very easy.

Cons: I work with children, so all my clients are minors. However, I wasn't able to address emails to the parents/guardians, or have them listed on superbills to receive the reimbursement. When a client is listed as a minor, I would prefer for the parent/guardian to be the person contacted and listed (as I work with infants and very young children)

Overall: The program is saving me many many hours of work daily and monthly by creating and distributing superbills and invoices.

Pros: I like the video tutorials that guide you on how the different functions work. I really like the scheduled sessions with a live person who takes the time to explain anything you want to know and make it very simple for you to understand. I just signed on to the system so everything is fairly new to me I've only been on it for 11 days.

Cons: The only part I do not like is the fact they do not have a system that can scan your PDF documents and make it fillable for your clients, so you will not have to use a separate program to make the fillable slots for clients to type in or sign. Another part that I wish they added to the program is to have Telehealth counseling. It will be nice if they had a video link where you can do your counseling via internet. At this point I have to pay for another program for the video counseling while using simple practice for my electronic health record system.

Overall: I like the daily reminders of things that you may not have completed on the system or letting you know how your schedule up for the day without you have to look for yourself it just pops up throughout the day.

Recommendations to other buyers: I've tested Office Ally, Counsol, Therapy Notes, CareCloud, and a few others. In my opinion, it is the best of the bunch. It's quick, well-featured, and frequently updated. Most importantly, it doesn't slow down my workflow; if anything, I dedicate less time to menial tasks and more to my clients because of this software.

Comments: During the 30 day trial period I was just beginning my independent practice, and I wanted the program to be easy to understand, with simple templates and menus. I am pretty computer savvy, as well as familiar with several electronic health records, and this program was simply not intuitive to me. It seemed as though the focus was on producing invoices, which I don't do at all. I don't think most psychotherapists bill clients. We collect co-payments and bill insurance, or require payment at the time of the visit. I could not find templates for intake, something that I wanted to print and have clients complete. Instead I found one on the internet and used that. I have figured out how to upload documents which will save me time in retyping.

Now that I have a little more time to work with the program, I am finding some things I like. I like the option for text reminders, and the HIPAA form. And I like the idea of getting people to complete their intake paperwork on the internet, but I also know there are some clients who would never submit information electronically that way. The forms need to be easy to print as well.

I think the learning curve for this program is fairly steep. I am hoping the rewards are worth the frustration. I was disappointed to find there is really no one to call for help--training and help is done by email and webinars, so there is always a lag time. I think that is not really workable in a system of this type. It's like having the office manager in Australia, in a vastly different time zone.

Pros: It's easy to use, and once information is put in the system, it carries over to other pertinent areas. I like having a paperless system, don't have to worry about miscellaneous paperwork getting lost in my office, and risk confidentiality being compromised. It helps maintain organization and decreases clutter. The scheduling and paperless intakes are great.

Cons: I am new at this and am trying to figure out the billing system. This seems to be the most complicated part of it all, but I guess that is to be expected. Still don't know what I am doing, and am taking one of your classes tomorrow. I wish there was a number so I could call and talk with someone. I have not used the live chat and am not sure where to access it. I feel like I need some one:one support to understand the billing. This is new to me, and I am the sole proprietor, so I have no one else to go to.

Overall: Ability to organize paperwork and decrease clutter. Secure storage of confidential records.

Comments: I just recently began using Simple Practice at my secondary office. It took me several months of diligent research to decide which of the many systems out there would work for me. Being that I am not one for technology, I knew I needed a system that would be very easy to learn and implement and that is exactly what I got with Simple Practice. Any questions or concerns I had during this learning period were answered very quickly via email. I must say that the customer service so far has been excellent. I am not sure that I will continue to type my progress notes into the system because quite honestly it takes me longer than it would to just write them out during session. I have asked each of my patients how they feel with me typing instead of writing and each one said that they were perfectly fine with it, which I found a bit surprising. If my typing skills improve, then I will in fact continue using Simple Practice to store notes because it certainly reduces the need for storage space and trips to the printer to get my various forms mass copied. For me, the email/text appointment reminders and electronic scheduling have been have been great. I can access my schedule and even add new patients and appointments from my phone. I've actually done this while waiting in line at the grocery store! It's also great to have patient information accessible wherever I may be. I have not begun filing electronically because the insurance providers have yet to respond to our application (which Simple Practice submitted for me!) The one concern I have is that I always list a charge amount on my Hcfa claim forms which is higher than the amount paid by insurance providers. If I record this amount on the system, then unfortunately it cannot accurately track what my patient or the insurance company truly owes. I presume the folks at Simple Practice will be working on this issue since most practitioners do the same with their charge amounts.

Pros: I like having everything in one place - notes, schedule, financial info., etc. I like that my clients can schedule online. I like the look of the site - clean and bright. It was a learning curve that I was reluctant to start on but now that I'm more used to the layout, I like being able to find everything I need.

Cons: The cost is a little high but I like that I can send and receive messages which lower priced competitors don't offer. I wish the phone app would offer more of what the desktop version does so I could use it in my office (where I don't have a computer). I wish it was easier to use for couples counseling rather than combining two individuals. I have yet to try out the insurance claims...

Overall: I like feeling (and being) more organized and I know that years of overflowing filing cabinets aren't in my future anymore. I love that clients pay me automatically after a session without having to deal with that in the office or remembering to send them an invoice.

Comments: After using two different practice management systems I finally switched to SimplePractice and am so relieved and excited that I've found a system I'll be able to use for the rest of my career as a private practice therapist. The customer service is unprecedented - the phone calls and helpfulness I received when switching systems alone was better than any customer experience I've ever had.

The interface is incredibly easy to use, and has streamlined my process of adding new clients. I used to have to copy and paste an email and ask clients to print out my paperwork - with SimplePractice I literally just enter their email and it does the rest. My intro-email is sent out automatically as well as a link to an online intake where clients digitally sign my paperwork and fill out intake questions. It's super easy to write a note when a client calls, and the case notes allow you to automatically fill in a SOAP note format (And DAP note, though I use SOAP) and re-enter the previous treatment's note, so if your assessment and plan stay the same you don't have to re-type anything. The phone app allows real-time changes to your schedule so I can change my clients next appointment immediately with them as opposed to writing myself a note to change it via my computer later. It's easy to schedule couples appointments too which is great.

I do wish the phone app had an option to allow me to write my case notes, but I have a hunch that that functionality will be available soon. The SimplePractice folks seem to always be updating and adding new features. The only thing that takes a wee bit more time than it should have to is billing - there should be an option when filling out a case note to check that the client paid, so I don't have to go to a separate billing page to check such. But in the scheme of things this adds about 15 seconds so it's not much to complain about, and I bet they'll add it soon anyway.

Pros: I Like the fact that it's very simple and easy to use. No complicated slides etc. I like that billing and other administrative stuff can be done all together. It makes it very convenient to just focus on the important stuff knowing that the billings could be done just at a click of a button.

Cons: In my opinion there are few things I think could be added:

1. For intakes, I think a psychosocial notes is needed and the current format does not provide that option.

2. There need to be more than 2 options for session (Currently, the software only give option of either individual or couple session). I do family session and groups. Having an option to write note for such is imperative.

Overall: Easy appointment scheduling, Accessibility to billing conveniently. Easy notes.

Pros: These features have been most helpful: document template, having client information online, file sharing, secure messaging, calendar, autobilling and invoicing (five stars for this feature), reminders, and customization of intake process (5 stars too!).

Cons: Creating online forms is cumbersome. Particularly, not having a table function makes forms long and requires that you keep scrolling. Document doesn't look so good. Another thing that is annoying is that Simple Practice keeps opening up another calendar window everytime I switch between applications. For example, I'm trying to create a BDI-II for assessments and when I switch windows to Adobe to see what the questions are, when I return to Simple Practice, instead of returning me to the form I'm creating, it opens another Calendar window!

Overall: Helped me get my practice started and organized!

Pros: The fact that notes can be customized is the best! Other companies require you to use their templates which are often cumbersome and slow. Good uptime (i.e., site is always available). Other great features: client portal (that permits self-scheduling and online client forms), secure messaging with clients, easy billing, and integration with Google Calendar. Also, product team is open to hearing customer feedback and adds new features periodically!

Cons: As of March 2018: Poor document management, cannot create non-appointment notes that are customizable (like an email or phone call note), self-scheduling and email reminders are not designed to work well with families/minors, no global address book for commonly used contacts like local physicians, mobile app does not have feature parity with web app, no task list, no wait list feature, no way for clients to send/upload a document, etc. Hope they improve upon some of these features!

Pros: Coming from Therapy Appointment after 5 years, this was a breath of fresh air. Infinitely more customizable with considerably more options. Plus Simple Practice is cheaper, especially for multi-clinician practices. A few of my favorite aspects are:

- HIPAA-compliant integration with Google Calendar

- store multiple credit cards under a single client

- separate accounts/confidentiality for each spouse, but joint note writing that goes into each account for couple sessions

- custom automated replies/emails

- custom email/text/voice reminders and multiple reminders for each client

- smooth integration with Swipe, including a convenient transaction log

- well organized and easy-to-use reminder system

Cons: - lack of customization for each individual clinician

- lack of accounting for virtual therapy (no place for changing the POS and modifier on individual sessions)

- repeat appointments have some glitches

- editing individual/couple sessions to one or the other is difficult

Comments: Having tried other EHR programs, I have a pretty good idea of what I like and do not like in one. I like a user friendly design that is efficient and has everything in one place (progress notes, payment records, etc). It has to be uncomplicated to set up and simple to navigate. I also wanted a system that would would sync to my calendar. Last but not least, it had to be reasonably priced. I am happy to say that Simple Practice meets and even exceeds my expectations. I like the ease of setup. The client portal makes things even easier for new pts. You send them a link and they fill out the intake forms and it is automatically loaded into their pt profile. You can upload your own forms of use the ones provided. Keeping track of payments is a snap and summary bills are a breeze to print out. The only thing I give a B- to is the progress note templates (there are two). They could be much better and apparently they will soon be. I sent customer service a note asking about their plans for the progress note section and was reassured that improvements are in the works. The only other "critique" I have of Simple Practice is that they do not heavily promote themselves like their competitors do. Had a colleague not mentioned it to me I would have never tried it out. I can see though that they put their money into program development. I like the daily schedule emails and the reminders on the homepage of things I need to do. Overall, Simple Practice is easy to use, and very comprehensive without being overwhelming. I am really very pleased with Simple Practice. I recommend trying it and one of its competitors for a week and I am willing to bet you will be impressed.

Pros: Software is easy to navigate and is user friendly overall. For clinicians, the documentation can be tailored to specific needs. Supervisors can easily access supervisee's notes to sign off. Scheduling and documentation are the strengths of the software. Have not used the billing piece

Cons: Difficulty with getting expedient customer support. When an email is sent, there is no time frame for when a response will be received. Phone support would be a great add. Stripe processing for payments as well as claims processing fees are more expensive than other options.

Overall: We use the scheduling, documentation, client portal and reports but use outside sources for credit card payments and claims processing. Overall the system is good but improved access to customer support would be welcomed

Pros: It's incredibly intuitive and as a new therapist, I find that everything is taken care of, even things I might not have considered. It's easy to communicate with clients from intake to invoicing. Being able to create notes and manage my calendar from the app is outstanding. I noted that one user said this saved them four hours a week, but I think that is an underestimate. I honestly can't believe how easy this is and it has taken tremendous stress off starting a new practice. I'm so very pleased!! I have also appreciate how often customer service has reached out to see if they could be of support. I feel taken care of with Simple Practice, and that's nice when working in a helping profession.

Cons: Nothing major comes to mind. The payment with Stipe was slow the firs time, but customer service was responsive that this was only because it was the first time. That was accurate as all the other transactions have been relatively quick. I don't bill to insurance, currently, so can't speak to that interface.

Overall: Efficient, time saving, secure.

Pros: I love everything about it! I especially love that everything is in one place from scheduling to billing. I have ADD and have been wanting to go paperless and simply my life starting with my practice. I have clients sign intake forms on an iPad and upload them straight to Simple Practice. I love the reminders. Nothing falls through the cracks. I used to do my super bills and invoices manually, but not anymore! Simple Practice automatically generates those in seconds. Much more professional and streamlined. And payments are so simple! I love the phone app. My clients are loving the client portal. Thanks to SP, everything is running smoothly, just short of running itself.

Cons: Some features are lacking. I wish they had an iPhone app. However, they take suggestions from subscribers and continually add new features, so what's lacking could be just around the corner. Another con is that (to my knowledge) you can't request the same customer service individual so that can be frustrating for follow up.

Overall: More time, more organized, able to do notes quickly, more professional appearance.

Pros: Setting up appointment calendar, filling out client data.

Cons: 1. Billing. Stripe is only choice and takes 3 or more days to receive payments. Quote from Stripe, "you must know programming language to change the billing format." I'm not a programmer. Sole practice. No office manager.

2. Billing. The structure makes no sense. I use PayPal and when I show a payment for a past invoice, the system shows the most recent payment paid. SP says watch videos. I don't need a video to use PayPal. It's simple and understandable to lay people. SP complicates everything.

3. Billing. Impossible to use. Complicated. Convoluted.

Pros: I like the intuitive nature of the program. I appreciate that the progress notes are not cumbersome.

Cons: 1) The cost of adding additional users is too high compared with other programs, specifically TheraNest. For a small practice such as mine where I have two interns, I think having to pay money per intern to add them to my account is too much. TheraNest offers a competitive rate based on number of active clients. I'm not suggesting Simple Practice adopt this model, but I think the rate to add interns should be less than the rate to add licensed professionals to the account. Interns usually have a relatively small case load of 10-15 clients at most, while a full-time licensed professional will carry a case load of 25-30. I'm currently not sure I will stay with Simple Practice because it will cost me an additional money per month to add my two interns, whereas with TheraNest, I can run my whole practice (me and two interns).

2) Customer service is non-responsive. I've sent three emails through the Simple Practice portal asking questions that were not able to be answered online. That was last week and I have not received responses to any of my questions. I find this unacceptable.

Overall: Improved time management and timely completion of notes and billing.

Pros: I like the case notes and I like the client portal. I like the design of the website. The scheduling part would be better if it transferred from my google calendar without setting the appointment as other which then doesn't send reminders.

Cons: You have to schedule to join the more in-depth training videos. It's doesnt have enough options for insurance so you've got to take the time to search that information out. If you need help the only option is to email back and forth and sometimes you won't get an answer that day so if you hit a barrier you can't get any work done with billing that day because there is no calling anyone.

Pros: Ease of use. Clear layout. The features aren't just fluff and bulk... it's lean and mean. I like how everything is consolidated and able to be fairly customized.

Cons: When serving a couple or family, the software doesn't account for serving multiple people very well yet. I need to be able to enter a couple or family under an identified client, but also have areas for each member's/partner's own sessions that I do individually as a part of the couple or family work. I can figure out how to make it work for now, but it could be much more organized. Also, it would be nice to have the ability to upload a pdf or word doc and have it convert to web-fillable formats, but I can create the forms in the WYSIWYG for now.

Overall: Demo'ing and set up was a breeze, and entering an individual client has been really easy so far. I haven't had to use customer service yet (which says a lot so far!), and videos are helpful. The only (fairly big) drawback has to do with the lack of consideration for serving couples and families.

Cons: Only one con, but it is a BIG con

Customer service: SimplePractice support by email (they do not have a direct phone number!) When time is of the essence, the back and forth with emailing is problematic. I would prefer to speak to a customer service representative to quickly remedy the issue. They do offer live video calls, but that can also be a pain as often I am driving from one appointment to the next or multitasking at the office or even at home and not available for a video call.

Overall: I have only used SimplePractice for about a month, but my experience thus far has been positive. To start it may be time consuming learning how to navigate and to enter existing patients, but it is well worth it. As I said....it truly did simplify my practice.

Pros: Fully functional and web based software suitable for clinicians in private practice.

Cons: Some difficulty on-boarding. I would have liked to have had someone I could call to ask a question rather than use email. There are lots (!) of resources but I didn't have the time to spend on informing myself regarding the possibilities of the software.

Overall: I am so happy using SimplePractice- it offers full functionality and is easy to use. I have had some moments of diffficulty getting it to work for me but it was my lack of understanding and not the program. It does take some time investment to convert over but I am so happy I invested the time and energy to do it. I highly recommend this software

Recommendations to other buyers: I really like using it and have recommended it to many people. I wish I could purchase a several year package (at a discount for paying upfront.)

Simple Practice offers everything that a clinician needs. Very user friendly!

Pros: The features are great. I love being able to have patients enter their information when they initiate treatment and I love that the billing/claims process can be streamlined.

Cons: The only difficulties I've had so far have been in figuring out the insurance enrollments because the companies I use weren't pre-programmed into the system. I reached out to customer service on a number of occasions. The instant chat worked great, someone responded right away and was very helpful. My emails were also answered in a prompt manner, however I wasn't able to talk directly to anyone. It might've been easier to trouble shoot with someone over the phone.

Pros: The ease of having all information, billing and charts in one central location

Cons: I would like to see the ability to have multiple clients linked to the same email address, as I see families as a group and individual.

Overall: I have been using this program since January 2016, and have absolutely loved everything about it!! I was very skeptical about switching to a completely paperless setup, and I worried about the ease of billing and tracking. However, I have had nothing but wonderful interaction with SimplePractice and their staff, and HIGHLY recommend it to anyone within my profession!!

Recommendations to other buyers: On the calendar end, I would like to see the option to have Individual/Couple/Family, with the ability to link more than two charts together.

Pros: I like the efficiency. We use the blocking tool and also appointment setting tools. The record keeping is very clear and easy to use for case notes. I like the instant and automatic email invitation to the patient portal. I don't have to remember to send the invitation. Billing can be done efficiently. Client search is quite easy to move through.

Cons: When we have multiple people in a family with the same 'family' email, there is some confusion about duplicates. Beware of clicking your mouse outside of the new appointment block before you save information because that click kills unsaved information.

Overall: Efficient, trustworthy software that impresses patients with that trust and integrity.

Simple Practice is one of the best decisions I have made in establishing my private practice.

Pros: Because I am not the most technological savvy person, I am always a bit skeptical of anything new in that realm. I had used a financial software to manage the financial portion of my practice previously, which was frustrating and stressful. When I was investigating other options, I talked with other clinicians who shared with me their experiences with practice management software programs. Those conversations, coupled with online research, led me to Simple Practice. I took advantage of the free online consultation and was pleased with the coach and her patience with my questions. The video tutorials have been most helpful as well. Simple Practice has taken the most stressful part of my practice and made it manageable, resulting in my feeling more calm and sure-footed in handling this portion of my business.

Cons: I wish Simple Practice had a way of documenting group therapy with the participants' names and the ability to do the billing portion from that blocked off time.

Comments: I have been using the software for a month. I tried it because I was fed up with lots of cancellations in my practice and I found that I was spending hours creating invoices and superbills for clients that chronically lose their paperwork. I wanted something that would create the invoices and send appointment reminders.

The pros are: the software does everything you need it to do and more! Another huge positive is that the number of cancellations and last-minute emails to shift appointment times has decreased by 90%. I think that is due to the text and email reminders. There is a bit of a learning curve but it isn't hard to do, just time consuming.

I wish it was easier to edit appointments from my IPhone. I find that to edit , I need to re-enter Simple Practice from Fantastical and often the little yellow "need help" tab is blocking the garbage can or the window to edit the appointment has shifted away. It's not so easy to change appointments unless I am sitting at my desktop which I am not doing at the end of the session which is when I have to do the majority of appointment changes.

One other small issue that I'm having is that I'm not able to run superbills for different ranges if I have a previous superbill that overlaps some dates in the range. That might be something that the software can do and I don't understand it well enough.

I am so glad I decided to invest in it. I like that I can use the features I want to use and not have to bother with the rest. My clients have all reacted favorably to the reminders. The developers are very courteous, I have emailed with a few questions and always gotten a prompt and professional response. The one month trial was more than adequate to test the software so I can't understand why anyone would hesitate.

Pros: I love how simple and pragmatic this system is to use. I love the customizable forms and that they can easily be sent electronically to be filled our online.

Cons: There are some features that aren't easy to access on the app, which means you need to log in through the web-version from time to time. I'd prefer that everything was easily completed in the app. (I.e. Deleting a payment, changing the session type from intake to individual, etc.)

Overall: I have been using SimplePractice to record data and information for my small therapy practice. It easily stores client information in a HIPPA compliant way. I also am using the customizable intake forms and notes forms to easily meet all documentation requirements. I love it!! I've already started recommending it to other colleagues!

Pros: So far I've been able to figure out everything I've needed to know about this software through the Help guides, which often include screenshots. For my practice, which does not take insurance, this software includes everything I could possibly need, and my favorite feature are the paperless intakes. That makes my life so much easier!

Cons: I wish that the client messaging were part of the Essential package. It's nice to have everything client related in one place, but I don't feel it's worth the extra charge for a month because it's the only Professional package feature I want to be able to use right now. I also wish there was phone support available, even if for very limited hours per day.

Overall: Having all my client info in one easy to access place seems to be the greatest benefit. I love having a paperless system.

Comments: I have spent the last year wrestling with Therapy Partner and Schedulicity for managing my practice; and then trying to make it all link up with my Google Calendar. Bonkers!

Just one day into my free trial with Simple Practice and everything I'd been laboring over was all working smoothly: appointments, bills, calendar, Stripe $. I could see that at least an hour a week of my time was going to be freed up from the headaches I had been enduring before.

Simple Practice is elegant, thoughtful, and it does just what I want (except for one thing, which the gang at SP says they are about to add; but more on this later).

I also really appreciate that SP has beautiful, clean design. This feels aligned with the way I try to represent my practice. I also love the suggested forms and templates for questionnaires, intakes and other tasks.

The one thing I liked about Schedulicity was the way my clients could see my schedule online. They could note my free appointments and re-schedule themselves when their regular time didn't work. It was also a way that someone who wanted to come in right away could book themselves a phone consultation or an appointment with me if I had a free hour. This saved me A LOT of time and phone calls/emails. I really want this feature, and SP says it's coming in mid-January. Fingers crossed!

Finally, I appreciate the opportunity to do a trial month and make sure it's a fit, and then pay a year in advance and get 20% off. I took advantage of both these offers and they seem ideal for private practice clinicians.

Comments: I've been using the service for about a month and it has already saved me a ton of time and headache. I'm a power tech user but it is challenge to cobble together all the tools you would need to do what SimplePractice does. It is worth every penny.

It keeps my practice humming by keeping me abreast of my schedule, changes, billing, and all the to-dos on the administrative side. The compliance aspect is also something I value highly and I can recommend no other solution that provides all these features, security, and responsiveness from customer service.

They are also constantly adding new features and making tweaks for all the different kinds of practices out there. They understand mental health folks unlike 99% of the EHRs out there.

My only suggestions (which I think they are currently working on or are planning on):

- Allow for multiple responsible parties (i.e. parents) for the portal. This is critical for kids of divorced families.

- A bit more flexibility on the forms that can be made available online by client or client type. I see couples, adults and families so I have different intake procedures for them as well as informed consents. Being able to have a different default set of documents for each group type would be ideal.

-Partnering with an encryption service like Virtru would be pretty killer for messaging purposes.

Pros: Comprehensive electronic health record. It is both simple (as the name would suggest) but also flexible enough to meet individual needs. Want to have a simple way to chart? You've got it with SimplePractice. Want to individualize forms and billing systems. You've got that too. I'm still in the new-user phase, and I have found customer service support to be very responsive helping me to get the answers I need.

Cons: Everything has a learning curve. Though there are group classes and Q & A sessions, I wish I could have a 2 hour one-on-one tutorial to learn most everything I need at once. I understand why this is not possible, but I still wish it was available.

Overall: I'm so glad that a colleague recommended SimplePractice for me when I made the decision to start my own practice. I didn't even realize there was a secure, all-in-one option out there for progress notes, treatment plans, scheduling, billing, etc. I knew that I wanted to find a secure electronic health record that would be user-friendly, but I was delighted to discover how much more SimplePractice could do for my practice!

Recommendations to other buyers: If you have a question, ask it. I found that the software is capable of doing almost everything I could think of doing!

Pros: Scheduling options allow for tracking client activity

Ability to have paperless practice is wonderful! I can manage my practice from anywhere!

Cons: Would love a few options for layout of app. It syncs well with iCal, but is a bit cluttered if you have a full day of clients.

I would LOVE it if the calendar on the site allowed for appt times to be adjusted by dragging/stretching the box as opposed to having to open the appt request and mess with the time setup.

Overall: We started a practice with five practitioners. Our main issue was a lack of ease for our billing specialist, lack of continuity within the practice and when we asked customer support if any of these features would be added they said 'no and why would a billing specialist need full access to your site.'

We actually launched our SimplePractice for Groups platform in June of 2016. We actually have a team member role now that allows for a team member to have full access to the account. Pros: So far, I'm enjoyed the ability to share documents with clients and have all demographic information directly embedded into the client profile. I appreciate the templates that are provided for policies and informed consent. I received a basic introduction from a support person and she has answered any relevant questions in a timely manner via email. I'm looking forward to using the automatic billing.

I also love the app where I can keep up with notes and billing and check my schedule without having to bring my computer to my office.

Cons: Since I'm new to the service, I'm having to spend a lot of time figuring out all of the features that are available to me. Other than than, I've been pretty happy so far.

Overall: Organization for my practice. Everything in one spot and fast, efficient insurance billing.

Pros: This is what really sold me: the ability to send intake paperwork that is then automatically added to chart after clients complete it online. This sold me. Reduced the time it takes to do intakes from 35 mins to 5-10 mins.

Cons: In the group practice feature, staff clinicians can see each other's (and my) schedules and client lists. It is very surprising to me that there is no way to turn this feature off. We had to add a section to our consent form and some clients (especially those who are themselves therapists) are not pleased with this unnecessary reduction in their confidentiality/privacy

Overall: Very intuitive interface. I tried several and this UI was the best by far. I like that I can customize the note templates and the intake paperwork. I do a lot of couples therapy and I love that I can write one note and the program updates both charts.

Recommendations to other buyers: Overall, I'd recommend it. They've told me they're working to add a feature to group practice setup so that staff clinicians can only see their own schedule and client list. This seems like a crucial fix to me and I hope they follow through with that promise.

Pros: I like that I can do almost everything electronically. I like that I can bill insurance, track payments, and schedule in the software. I really like the patient portal. I like the ease of scheduling.

Cons: I do not like that there is not a Release of Information page. This is something that I have to print out because it needs filled out specifically for each client. Then I have to scan it and upload to their chart. In addition, I am a new user to the software and I am finding it very overwhelming. However, the help section and videos are very beneficial to my learning. I would have like the option of a phone number for customer service.

Overall: The benefits of this software are that it will save me time in running my business, I have all information at my fingertips, and it is easy to use once learned.

Comments: I have not gone "paperless office" as a private practice psychotherapist... until a month ago when I found out about Simple Practice. I was part of a business school program for therapists and someone recommended it. When I found out that the company had been started by the same founder who created TrackYourHours.com, I knew I wanted to check it out! I was a big fan of TrackYourHours during my years of gathering and tracking those 3,000+ intern hours!

The pro's: The fact that I can email a new client my office policies and informed consent and Notice of Privacy, etc. docs and have them sign them electronically and also fill in an intake form and send it back to me via Simple Practice is such a time saving tool. I track my client and "other" appointments, do all my progress notes, track my client's information and their emergency contacts - all of the kinds of things I track always but just on my hard drive and locked paper files - it's easier, more centralized, more secure and looks neater. Good support when I have needed it. Good training tutorials. It appears that creative improvements and add-on's are coming regularly.

Wishes: would like a faster way to get through to your great support guys, e.g. instant chat and/or direct phone support line. Capability to edit and customize intake questionnaire form which I think you have in the works. Ability to print out monthly calendar which you might already be able to do but didn't see a print button.

Overall impression: the guys at Simple Practice seem to understand what we therapists need in a paperless office program and are open to and even soliciting feedback for ways they can make it even better. The free first 30 days is a great way to try it out. I did and I just signed up for a year. :)

I switched from Therapynotes (customer of 4.5 years) with no regrets!

Pros: I am a fan of SimplePractice! My patients and I are happy to be able to send secure messages; schedule appointments and view up to the minute availability without the confusion; send and complete assignments and documents; view and pay bills....etc. The patient portal page and clinician documentation page are easy to use and best of all....great customer service; reminders; and calendar synchronization. The ongoing online training/resources are priceless. Thank you for your ongoing efforts to improve your platform and educate your customers, it's greatly appreciated!

Cons: I do not have any cons to report at this time. I am looking forward to seeing what's next to come.

Overall: Secure messaging; flexibility and ease with documentation; and ongoing training/resources.

Pros: ability to make own progress note templates, unlimited non-clinicians, two-way secure communication with clients, client billing, the app is useful for clinician in the field to schedule appts on their own, flexible enough to create and apply interdisciplinary service model for clients

Cons: lacks easy interface with QuickBooks--billing using only Stripe does not allow for financial oversight and other accounting responsibilities related operating the business (taxes, payroll, etc.); pricey for start up businesses using multiple clinicians (less than 1 yr old); lacks ability to change title's of client information (i.e. we would have preferred to title our 'clients' as 'students' and parents as 'legal guardian') for greater variability since our business focuses on serving students.

Overall: online intake helps recruit clients from varying communities and economic households; our clientele has increased, in part, due to the easy interface it offers our clients to upload documents, schedule appointments, and communicate with our office.

Pros: The automatic generation of superbills and statements is awesome. It's easy to schedule sessions, and the calendar integrates well with iCal.

Cons: Missing features: limited functions in the iPhone app, no reminders for things like annual dates when ROIs need to be renewed, the colors for the different types of appointments are too hard to discern (and there is no customization option).

Overall: There is of course quite a ramp up period for a new software package like this: lots of data to enter. But it is quite easy to use, and has lots of useful features. Some things I had hoped for are missing, but they seem to continually try to improve the product.

Recommendations to other buyers: It's hard to figure out the first time around what you need and want in EHR software. I just decided to take the plunge with a likely candidate, and see how it works out. If you are looking to switch and this has the features you need, it's a great choice. The customer service is awesome.

Pros: I can submit claims directly. I can change and view upcoming appointments. New and current clients can book via online. I can also chat with saftey through their HIPAA compliant and encrypted messaging portal with clients.

Cons: There are still more features I would like to see for instance, a reminder when you have seen a client over a time period, claims that have not been filed, a way to list all sessions clients have held with you or upcoming.

Overall: I am able to remain organized and more efficient.

Pros: Ease of use, design, time savings, autogeneration of super bills, appointment reminders, easy tracking of client payments, going green (paperless), ability to send intake forms to clients electronically, progress note template options, ability to store practice documents.

Cons: Not as customizable as I'd prefer, not compatible with Mac Calendar so I had to transition to Google Calendar, the online clients scheduling feature is useless since the SimplePractice calendar stores only your practice appointments but doesn't pull your life appointments from your Google Calendar, the inability to incorporate my current credit card processing company, lack of ability to put my logo on many client communications, appointment reminder sent via text have very a very odd and unprofessional appearance that can't be changed.

Pros: The various features available, i haven't used all of them yet but I will eventually. Colleagues gave me good feedback about Simple Practice.

Cons: The online scheduling system is very confusing. if you click on "availability" it shows you two different screens that are hard to discern-one is booked appointments and I'm not sure what the other one is. Regardless, this is the main reason I signed up with Simple Practice and I'm not happy with this feature or the lack of phone-based customer support. That feels very "millennial" to me.

In response to your question about online booking, when you click on"Availability," the calendar will show what hours you have set up as available for your clients to book appointments. If nothing is showing up, you'll just need to set your availability which can be done by clicking anywhere on the calendar to create a block of time.

Pros: It is pretty intuitive, for someone like me, who is not tech savvy. It was easy to upload my logo and documents. I like the capability to create and/or edit forms. I love the ability to create invoices and superbills automatically. i like that clients can book online. However, there is not an option to book on the half hour. I like the ability to prepay for a discount. I havent used the software that long so I am not sure what else to write when i need more experience.

Cons: I cannot use my own POS service to take payment.I cannot access forms as a client to see the format they see. I cannot tailor the portal to fit my color scheme. You dont have video conferencing.

Pros: My favorite feature is the paperless client assessments etc. Prompt customer service. Ability to create my own template.

Cons: Not been able to document all group members in without individually adding the notes.

While the customer service is prompt, sometimes I really wanted to speak to a human and not email.

Pros: Pretty easy to navigate. Variety of note options available and that notes and forms can be customized.

Cons: Financial reports - I wish they were able to be customized.

Overall: So far, so good! I am so glad I have made the transition to Simple Practice. I am finishing my notes faster than ever before and am feeling more organized and streamlined. I have not yet imported my paperwork for new clients, so starting to use the client portal will be another learning curve - I'm not nervous about that though because everything has been pretty simple so far. I noticed that a phone number for customer support doesn't seem to be easy to find. I value being able to pick up the phone and ask a question, so I'll have to keep looking into customer service options. I also wish there were some other reports available for tracking finances. Overall, I'm very pleased that I converted from paper records and am using Simple Practice.

Pros: Attractive. Looks like they are upgrading/changing consistently, the number of users hints they will be around for some time.

Cons: (1) The formatting of documents (my personalized consents, etc.) when I upload them into the system. They are unattractive and difficult to read. The alternative is to make my documents a PDF, but then it can't be a form clients sign. This is a big problem. (2) Sometimes I have difficulty finding what I am looking for. Switching from calendar back to the other side of the account isn't the best. (3) I have been unable to remove the cost for my services from the booking page. I've done some searches in "help" but have not found the solution.

Pros: The notes are amazing. It allows you to customize and you can even write them on your phone. Truly helpful. I also love the reminders to do notes as well as the integrated appointment reminders for clients.

Cons: The Billing and the lack of voice support. I think I will have to switch. It makes me sad because i love the notes but the errors on billing insurance and the difficulty fixing it and understanding will be the breaking point. I so wish they would revamp their insurance billing.

Pros: Includes all features needed to run an efficient and effective practice. In addition, I enjoy that I can use the same program for my entire practice and that it syncs with my ical. The product feature has been amazing for our package products.

Cons: I would like to be able to modify some of the billing features and have a feature on the services that takes into consideration the number of session within a larger session package. I would also like to be able to assign two or more clinicians to a single client/group.

Overall: My business partner and I have been searching for the perfect software to work with our sport psychology practice. Due to the small nuances that come with this type of practice we have had no luck until Simple Practice where we have been able to tailor the program to our needs.

Recommendations to other buyers: The customer service is very fast, however, I would love to have the option to speak on the phone with someone from Simple Practice.

Pros: I have been shopping around for some time for an EHR system that fits my practice - online and in-person counseling for expatriates living in Asia Pacific - and simple practice is it. There are two features that stand out to me - telehealth video conferencing and customizable documents. Both have streamlined my practice.

Cons: Like with all EHR systems, there are some features that are either missing or not yet fully developed. I would like to see the ability to share document templates with other practitioners (not photos but the actual templates for use), as well as the ability to give clients total access to their documentation (open notes).

Overall: SimplePractice has cut the amount of time I spend on creating and filling out documentation in half, giving me more time to focus on direct client services.

Pros: I love how seamless it all is...how one step in the process leads to the next. It makes sense and is already really keeping me more organized and on task. My ADD brain needed this!

Cons: So far I haven't found anything I don't like about the software. I do, however, wish the customer service included an opportunity to talk or chat with someone in real time.

Overall: I just started with Simple Practice, but I can see how I'll be so much more streamlined in the way I work. I won't be always trying to remember what I need to do, or be re-creating invoices, etc! It actually tells you what you need to do and what you haven't finished yet. I love that!
