Founder Used the software for: 6-12 months ### "The best way to create product configurators online" May 1, 2018 5.0 Pros The use of this software is really easy, you just have to upload the file and all menus will be automatically created. The models can be changed as much as you desire so it is almost unlimited the quantity of features you can add. Such ease and flexibility lets your imagination fly, creating incredible results. Finally, the models are very optimised so they work smoothly in both, desktop and mobile devices. Cons The materials could look more realistic and the shadows and ambient occlusion should have more controllers to be able to set its position or intensity. Normal maps and alpha maps also need a controller for its intensity so that they display the materials as desired. Review Source ME Martin E. There is only so much you can do with 3D JavaScript libraries like ThreeJS or Babylon, but with ShapeDiver viewers you can bring all the power of Rhino and Grasshopper right into your browser. The ever expanding JavaScript API allows you to interact with the 3D scene to create rich user interfaces and experiences, while the heavy lifting is done by Rhino servers. 3D artists can stick to what they are familiar with and programmers can focus on their app and can solve problems that would otherwise be near insurmountable. Cons The downside of any boxed product is that it is harder to do things outside the box. The ShapeDiver viewer comes with some default logic and settings that may not be exactly what you want. The platform has already had great improvements and there are new features with each update. Working with Shapediver allowed me to have new perspectives on working with applications in different types of markets. Pros Allows you to configure different types of products very quickly and with low development cost and little complexity. It is the best 3D configurator for customizable products, especially if your product changes dimensions. By hosting grasshopper files we can parameterize products very quickly and create different types of interactions through the API. Very flexible. - Easy and painless integration, even if you plan to use the API in order to customize the configurator: load the ShapeDiver lib, add a few lines of JS to your website and you have it. - Smooth visualization and animation, it feels like you are using a desktop app instead of a website. Pros As a user of Rhino and Grasshopper ( CAD - Package with skriptiung interface ) we are just amazed that it is that easy to port a parametrically designed project working on your local computer into a solution for the web, with full freedom to update the project at any time and simply upload the new state, which updates online in minutes. Cons We found that the backend could be organized even a little bit more time-saving in terms of how the parameter-list is sequenced. As far as we could see this has to be rearranged every time you upload a new Grasshopper-patch, and there is no way to predefine this sequence already within Grasshopper. Shapediver provides a lot of resources (blog posts, explanatory videos, webinar) to help explain how to use and optimize your definitions to work smoother as an online configurator. They seem to actively work on new and improved features and listen to user requests on the forum. The platform grew a lot over the last few years. Cons Creating newer versions of the same configurator is currently a bit of a pain. There's currently no way to replace the previous version, hence you need to upload the updated version and replace the ticket from the previous version on the web development part of the project. There's also no built-in way to control the order or visibility of the parameters from within Grasshopper itself. So every time you upload a new version you need to change this again. Shapediver has acknowledged these shortcomings and claim solving these problems is on their roadmap. Also, every definition containing a script is manually being checked before approval, which can slow down development. Review Source Annapaola V. April 26, 2018 5.0 Pros The team is extremely kind and fast to answer, we developed a productive relationship and they were very helpful with any doubt I had. The website works perfectly and the service is very fast (uploading a model only takes few seconds), I also had no problem using the grasshopper plug in. The editor works perfectly also on an external website. The projects showcased on the editor look very good and the designer has a wide choice of colors and other details to choose from. I think it's really one of a kind service for parametric design visualisation. Cons I'd say there is nothing in particular that I had problems dealing with. For any small questions I had their answers were extremely quick. Also, the forum area is really useful to solve doubts. I must say that it is a stable and reliable platform to publish configurable 3D models/scenes. I would recommend Shapediver for those who: 1) Have a great/niche mass-customisation application/product/idea; 2) Have a working Grasshopper 3D definition; 3) Is working with 2D or 3D printing/CNC milling/Laser cutting. Pros Since I am a Grasshopper 3D user, I like that: 1) Shapediver platform makes it possible to publish my developed definitions online without any web development/programming knowledge. 2) The platform has a very clear and user-friendly interface with a relatively simple model/viewport configuration settings. 3) Shapediver's team is working hard to provide compatibility with various third-party plug-ins (such as Kangaroo, Weaverbird, Mesh+) which are inevitable design tools for the extension of the design capabilities in Grasshopper 3D. 4) ShapeDiver makes it possible to upload user data directly from a web browser 5) ShapeDiver supports ShapeWays API. Cons I experienced a few difficulties when uploading models with: a) custom scripts (i.e. written in GhPython); b) linear dimensions.
