Pros: Realm really is a great tool to assist our church ministry. I really enjoy the user experience in terms of being about to use Realm from my laptop, smartphone or tablet. It is very easy to send out mass emails to various church groups within our ministry like the book club, flower guild and youth events. The member profile piece is easy to use and customize. I can track church member contributions, family situation and what activities they are involved with at our church. The Small Group Activity area is VERY helpful because I can attach and track members of certain groups with our church and they can communicate within that group through Realm and no one will get emails that are not relevant to them.

Overall: The key benefits that I get is being about to create and communicate with GROUPS within our church. I can communicate with them easily and mark attendance for when the groups meet.
I feel that I need to learn about all the features about Realm and that will take time. From the Check In feature to the Attendance tracker, I really need to spend a day to understand everything that Realm can do for me and my church.

I think realm is a great tool for churches to create an accessible community.

Pros: I think realm is a great resource for churches to create their own iunique social network or space. Through multi-level communication, community building, and announcements, realm is a neat experiment in tailored social, online connections for churches.

Cons: In creating a social network, it can at times become just another social media platform, or another news feed you feel you have to keep track of or maintain to some extent. In other words, it can become a bit more like a newsletter service than anything else depending on the culture of the church and buy in.

Overall: Quick, effective communication

Overall it has been positive. Customer service is great.

Pros: I like the tracking features and the help menu is great. It is really nice to be able to take attendance for all our groups and have it in one central location.

Cons: Sometimes it is difficult to get to a page, just a lot of steps to get to a location. Also, it shows features that are not always available if you don't have the upgraded Realm (like check in and pathway notifications) that you think you can use, but then can't if you don't have the upgrade.

Overall: Easy tracking, simple to use, easy to teach others how to use the system.

Pros: The cloud feature. I like being able to check information at home. Also like parshioners sign-in capability.

Cons: Not always intuitive and harder to find some features that I'm use to with ACS. Reports do not provide the same amount of detail that I'm use to so have to go to several locations for almost as much information.

Love the OnRealm Support team. Always willing to help.

Pros: OnRealm meets our church's needs. Overall, it is very intuitive and easy to use. Support is just a phone call away and they are always very helpful.

Cons: I sometimes have difficulty with the attendance. I may check a person off as attending, but then it doesn't stay highlighted. I have to go back and recheck names many times.

Realm has been very helpful and seems to be a the forefront of what's best next.

Pros: Generally, the look and feel of the online and mobile experience are modern and nice. The app has been very useful. The financial integrations and features have been flawless.

Cons: Some very basic features have been slow in coming (e.g., allowing public registration for paid events). Also, account management has been challenging at times (e.g., changing account email, uninviting accounts where maybe a family email addressed was used twice for a couple, etc.).

Overall: Everything in one place. Giving, attendance, directory...and all with mobility. Overall, we have been very pleased.

Pros: Pathways are a great way to design work flow. It's basically a tool box to customize work flow and processes.

Cons: Inability to define user permissions as we want. Some permissions are inappropriately admin privileges only.

Pros: Reporting is very easy and I like that the pastors can see reports real-time and not have to ask assistants for all information. I love that it works on any device and we can access from any computer. The cost is less than what we had with People Suite, Access ACS and The City. It is rare to go to new technology and actually pay less!

Cons: Some of the features are still somewhat primitive. Event registration is nowhere near as robust as Event Registration in Access ACS. I'm looking forward to that being further developed. Also related to events, when I put someone in Event Registration, I can't turn off the email they receive saying they have registered (if I'm just tracking internally) and I can't customize the wording on that email.
Searching for a group has been another frustration. There isn't a good way for someone new to the church to find a small group without having a log in. We still have to keep Access ACS up to date to use the link on our website to find a group. The City had a great small group program and was very easy to have a kiosk in the church hallway to search and even sign people up for a group.

Realm is very user friendly and the customer service representatives are very helpful.

Pros: We have had Realm for 3 years and seen the software improve a lot over that time. I am very impressed at their constant ingenuity to continue developing the product to meet customer needs. We love the check-in platform which is extremely simple to use.. even better now with customizable badges! We have met with the Realm team several times regarding various new program updates. The team would show us a sample of a new concept and ask for our feedback. It was fun to be a part of new innovation and it was especially exciting when we saw our suggestions implemented in the software.

Cons: Realm does not interact with our Planning Center Services account or our Resources calendar. Because of this, we have to duplicate information and ultimately manage 2 databases of people (PCO and Realm). This hasn't been a major issue but it would be nice if profiles that were updated in Realm would be automatically updated in PCO. Also, our small group leaders have found the mobile app to be limited in its functionality. Understandably, the app has less features than the web version but it would be really nice if, for example, a small group leader could add a new guest from the mobile app.

It's been great to use software that has so much functionality.

Pros: Functionality and the great fields to enter member and guest info. I've enjoyed using the pathways feature as well.

Pros: The interface is pleasing and fairly intuitive. The customer service is excellent. The tools available are very useful for our church. I appreciate the customized fields in the system that allow me to change certain terminology to better match our church.

Cons: There are bumps in the road sometimes with updates, whether it's an unexpected consequence, changed features, or having to teach volunteers a new way to use the software. I also appreciate how much Realm listens to customer feedback, but sometimes wish improvements could be made faster.

Overall: Much better organization in the office. A tool to connect church members, and assist church leadership.

Pros: Convenience, up to date, sophisticated, the best program out there! This program is much better than ones used in the past. No information is lost, updates are regularly scheduled, and I couldn't be happier about the reporting function.

Cons: The only con, I would like to be able to search for a specific check #, this additional option would save me a lot of time and frustration.

Overall: More accurate records, up to date technology, convenience.

Pros: The ease in finding people. Simply start typing a name and options pop up quickly. The check-in kiosk was a big factor in our purchase. The help feature is excellent. Click on the question mark on any page and immediately go to help for the page you are on. Online contributions post automatically when they hit the bank.

Cons: Because it is new, reports are somewhat limited. We were used to many reports and many options to customize them. The Family Directory looks good but the only option you have is what families to include, you cannot customize the information. For example, birthdays aren't included. I can't print a group of profiles at the same time. This would be a useful tool for our Deacon Family Ministry plan. The most I can print is a family profile.

Overall: Children's check-in kiosk. We are beginning a new discipleship track and Pathways will help us keep this organized.

Realm is an innovative product with great capability, but the user experience is still poor at best.

Pros: The search features, both in searching for individuals and running custom queries. This enables us to save time when producing any kind of communication.

Cons: The end user (congregant) experience. For back-office staff Realm is a big help, but for our members it is a headache. For this reason, we have not yet released/used many of Realm's features like event registration, group messages, and the connect app. Congregants mainly use it for online giving only, and we still field lots of call and questions. The user must be very familiar with computer software programs in order to follow the logic of which buttons to click, etc. To a layperson, it's incredibly difficult. They really do need a giant red button screaming at them with what to do next.

Overall: Increases efficiency of church office staff.

Pros: Some of the features I appreciate most is the user-friendly tips and cues for administrators and users alike. I appreciate the fact that this software is geared toward church environments and is obviously designed with that in mind. The customer support has ALWAYS been helpful and pleasant, no matter the question.

Cons: This is a bit of a learning curve, and there really is no short-cut to cleaning up databases that have long been neglected.

Pros: Realm is incredibly easy to use, but provides a very detailed look at the information collected from church members. It provides a system for connection to each attendee, and allows you to track what step an attendee may be on within those processes.

Cons: Realm is a very new technology. While it is far more user friendly than its predecessor, there are certain functions that are not yet up and running. The tech support team is quick to listen to advice and solve issues, but there are certain functions that other programs have, that realm does not have YET.

Overall: Ease of use. Ease of connecting to attendees.

Pros: User interface is clean, crisp and easy enough to use. Our Church congregation enjoys using it and adopted it fairly quickly.

Cons: This Church Management Software feels like a Beta-version, and you can tell that it hasn't been tested. It is unrefined, and glitchy, with navigation being confusing at times and illogical. Development teams are not helpful ("Sure, we'll add that to the suggestion box."), and there are some major functionality issues - specifically with their Group Search tools. We've had to manage to separate systems to accommodate the lack of Groups functionality with Realm: an entirely separate Wordpress site with plugins, as well as GroupVitals software. It's a shame that this wasn't more thought-out. I would advise that potential buyers avoid ACS entirely, until they refine the actual software to meet their many "promises." Our transition from the City to Realm was everything but "seamless," caused massive confusion for the end-user, and is negatively affecting online giving (which is about 78% adoption for us.)

Overall, Realm has lots of potential, with ACS staff offering tons of promises, but as of right now the software itself has not delivered. Our staff seriously debated between Realm and CCB, and thus far it feels like we may have made the wrong choice.

Overall: Cross-church communication, mobile messaging, church management and admin.

Realm is a new and growing software and works great for every area of our ministry.

Pros: I love the integration between all different areas such as financials, attendance, and groups. I also am a huge fan of the app that allows me to quickly search for and contact church members. Reports pull easily and there are a ton of customization options throughout the various areas.

Cons: There are a couple features such as people being able to sign up for and see events without an account that are still missing. There are also times that setting up an event or pulling a report can be confusing at first, but their team is awesome at responding quickly and helping you figure out what you need to do.

Pros: First we love that all of our systems are now in one place. Moving from running ACS OnDemand, AccessACS, and The City to just using Realm has created efficiency. Realm has allowed better care of our large congregation and opportunities for closing the back door. That's what we like most. With nearly 4,000 attenders on a weekend, knowing when people are disconnecting is difficult. With easy attendance through the app for all of our classes/events/offerings, and indications coming to the surface in reports when people begin to disengage, we can intentionally follow up with them for potential ministry opportunity. Along the same lines, being able to have family/individual profiles which really show a complete picture of a person and their involvement, along with what processes they're involved in, what events they've attended, what milestones they've met, and any notes pertinent to pastoral care for them as individuals, we are in a better position to care for our congregation than ever before.

Dashboard reports are great and put a lot of actionable data at ministry leaders fingertips.

Cons: Communication via Realm needs some minor improvements. The ability to share a message with multiple groups is missing at present. The option to reply to an email notification and have the message go back to the original thread in Realm is missing. Those two improvements would make a big difference in communication, as well as the ability to "feature" a post within a group to make it stay at the top of the group's News Feed. Need to be able to turn off ability to comment on a particular post, yet not delete it -- something that's informative in nature, but we're not necessarily looking for responses on.

Emails coming out of Realm need to be more customizable to have the look and feel the sender is going for. Calendar/events in Realm needs some help too. We are not to the point yet where we could use it as the one place to see events, as it's listing all service times and things we don't necessarily want to show in the events listing (things that are a given and don't need to be listed as events -- however they have to be in there so attendance can be marked/entered). A few enhancements need to be made in event registration as well, though it has come a long way.

Overall: Realm is the key tool to care for our congregation in intentional ways.

Cons: Some features that we were used to in the previous software are still being built. On the upside, they are taking the time to redesign them and pare them down to what is really needed for simpler user experience.

Overall: Without knowing much about Realm, changed from ACS desktop. Sorry I did, only because I'm an accountant and this program was not developed by accountants, but rather by programmers. Too many bells and whistles, too much linked to Facebook. Very, very cumbersome. Wish i could go back, but that would cost me more money. Make sure you review product before purchasing.

Recommendations to other buyers: I wish it was more like ACS for Windows Desktop.

Pros: The ease of use for church leaders and administrators, as well as church members.

Cons: The Communications and Volunteer capabilities are still under development.

Overall: We switched from The City to Realm this year and have been greatly pleased. The Realm is well suited for church leaders to organize the various ministry and small groups of the church. Reports can be customized for any data in the system and emails sent to highly customized dynamic lists. The online giving experience is very good and we have seen increased levels of giving because of it. There are still a few features in development that we are waiting for, including enhanced communication and volunteer capabilities. However, the Realm certainly is very capable at this stage and is the best church management system we are aware of. It is suitable for new church plants, existing churches of all sizes and multi-site churches.

Pros: Easy to use. Mobile accessibility. Convenient and cost effective.

Cons: New features are always being added which are making an already powerful product better.

Overall: The realm has helped our leadership team navigate the church planting process. Planting churches isn't easy, but Realm has made it a lot easier. We've been able to communicate with each other and keep focused as we moved from our planting stage to our public ministry phase.

Recommendations to other buyers: Train your leaders and share your vision. The more people are informed the more they'll use it.

Pros: easy to use, intuitive, comprehensive.

Cons: a few features are a little difficult to find or setup, but their customer support is very helpful in those cases.

Overall: The great thing about Realm is that it has everything we need to run our church in a holistic way. It let's us handle our group communication, personal profiles, giving records, reporting, and accounting all in one place. Also, it has a great discipleship tool called Pathways that helps us walk people through any process we create. We can assign different Steps along one of any of the custom Pathways we create, making sure no one slips through the cracks. It has really helped our assimilation, spiritual formation, and leadership development processes. Communication has been greatly improved and we now have a handle on all our operations.

Recommendations to other buyers: It's inexpensive, especially for small to medium size churches looking to grow.

Pros: Everything

Cons: Nothing really!

Overall: Our church started using Realm over a year ago. It is a wonderful software that provides great functionality, real-time data, and it's user friendly! Information is always just a couple clicks away and we delight in how well our members have received it! Using Realm has freed staff from spending great amounts of times trying to assemble reports because the data is already there. This allows them to focus on other, more important people and ministry driven tasks. One of the best features is the online giving! We're able to offer quick, easy, and secure online giving to our church members and even church visitors (plus TEXT GIVING)!! We are always amazed at how the ACS developers are constantly improving Realm. They take our input and suggestions of how the product can be even better, which is nice since we are the ones out in the real world using the software. We have a voice! Their customer service and support are without fail fantastic!
Overall, Realm is just a really great product and we would recommend it to others without hesitation. It certainly allows us to work smarter, not harder, and it gives us the tools we need to run our amazing church! Thanks Realm!

Recommendations to other buyers: Go online, check out their product. There are wonderful tutorial videos that really give you a lot of insight on what it can do!

Pros: I love the Contributions capabilities. The check scanning makes data entry much easier and is a great way to keep the giving records accurate. I also love the Custom Report functionality. I am able to get reports quickly and very easily.

Cons: Sometimes when I click the back arrow a pop up box appears where I have to click the ALLOW box to continue. It is an extra step and I don't see the value.

Overall: I've found Realm to be very user friendly and can usually figure out how to do things without contacting customer support. We don't use all of the features but I want to learn more so I can see how we can use Realm in other areas.

Pros: The ease of use. Dashboards shows you at a glance so many items in the database. Counts of people, age groups when you add birth dates. Family count and average size of family. Numbers of ministry groups and member numbers. Allows you to get into groups and see who members are.
We send email to group, individual or whole congregation that have email.

Cons: Not much I don't like. The product is always improving. Sometime a change goes into effect and the way I move in the database changes. I don't like this but it makes things better. It is documented but just don't like change.

Overall: I have been using this software over 18 months. Was able to add fields we wanted. Had great help getting the changes from the support folks. They are always helpful and guide you as needed.

Recommendations to other buyers: They want feed back and welcome input. I think we get a good value for the money.

Pros: It is very easy for people who are new to Realm to figure out how to use it. I have received great feedback from those few in our staff and congregation who have tried it.

Cons: The reports are few, and the ability to export a custom report to Excel is not there yet. I can't wait until Payroll is ready in Realm, so that we can add financials.

Overall: We have been using Realm for a few months, having transitioned from ACS Peoplesuite. Realm is far prettier and more user-friendly than Peoplesuite, but it still has a long way to go in developing reports and other functionality.

Pros: I love the ability to track contributions for a visitor without having to assign them a giving number. I love the fact that members can update their own contact information.

Cons: The calendar does not seem to be useful because you cannot print it for publication to the members. Also, so many members have created duplicate accounts that I have to deal with.

Overall: I've been using Realm for approx. 3 months and love most of the features. I've had some trouble transitioning from the People Suite because I've been learning as I go. Customer Support has been superb at helping me along with all my questions.

Recommendations to other buyers: I would love to have a locally run class on the software itself. I also cannot wait for it to incorporate the payroll and general ledger. Our church would like you to add the feature to the online giving for people to add the credit card fee to their contribution. Also, please add a marker for deceased spouses on the profile screen.

Pros: Ease of use; we don't need to worry about "what happens if a computer goes down?"; great support staff; pre-defined reports; dashboard; Data base and finances are linked in same system; great easy to understand on-line search/help.

Cons: I'm still working on figuring out/getting used to how to run custom reports. I know the information is in there... I just need to make it into a lovely, easy to read, report. When they added more pre-defined reports, I was delighted.

Overall: I am the point person at our church for all things Realm (aka Administrator). I've been using the program for a while and have enjoyed how user friendly it is. The support folks are sharp and quick to respond to our needs... especially during our transition to this program! They were great!

Recommendations to other buyers: Many of our constituents are not using email regularly, so that component of connectivity is virtually untapped for groups. The ones who are using it regularly have said it is a great help.

Pros: Ease of use is number one in my book as far as the accounting is concern. Cut down my work time and easy to cross reference.

Cons: Getting labels and directories are still a major problem. I tend to do it the old long way instead of reading through instructions.

Overall: I use mostly the giving section of the program. I enter donations, print out reports to match financial statements of money coming in and print quarterly reports for members to find out where they are as far as their pledges.

Recommendations to other buyers: I love the fact that as people make suggestions the company reviews and makes updates to make things smoother. Also great phone support if you're having trouble.

Pros: I've been able to successfully check-in people from Windows tablet and have labels waiting at the check-in station (label printer shared from another Windows computer). I like being able to verify attendance with a tablet during service.

Text giving in Realm is included with online giving.

Dashboards readily available and can be customized for Giving, Attendance, and Involvement. Plus the Overview can provide quick insights to your database.

Cons: Built-in reports have a ways to go.

Overall: I have been using Realm to manage people (contributions, attendance, etc.) for about 8 months. I have also had the privilege to be a part of the pilot program for Realm Accounting. People management is very straightforward. Accounting process will be very familiar for existing ACS Financial Suite users. Chart of Accounts structure is a bit different, but I like the use of Account Codes (core accounts) that are available across funds. Accounting might be a little too strong for one-person office environments, especially those accustomed to QuickBooks functionality.

ACS partners with Vanco for processing gifts and registration payments. Vanco is great to work with. Together, they have just launched text giving for Realm.

Recommendations to other buyers: I have worked with ACS software, in various capacities, for over 16 years. They are a great company to work with. They provide excellent support. They are privately owned and plan to stay that way. As others have said or may say: Any software is only as good as the data that goes into. Moreover, every software is completely useless, if those tasked with using it are not given training to learn it. If you can make the investment of time, to go along with the financial investment, you won't be disappointed.

Pros: I like that the software developers take the time to listen to the users and frequently upgrade the software with features that users need, not what they think we should have. The UI is intuitive and easy to use. The wikis are robust and use lots of pictures so there is not confusion as to what needs to be done. The support team in knowledgeable.

Cons: The search engine is not as robust as some other products, but that is improving as the product develops.

Overall: This product is not as robust as some of the other big products out there, but it has almost everything you need to get the job done. Many organizations do not need or want all the bells and whistles that those products have, nor the cost they come with. Realm manages people and their contributions with ease. It has the ability to use groups to track attendance and facilitate communication among the groups/ministries of the church. The customization fields allow for tracking needs specific to individual ministries as well.

For attendance, there is a check in system that can be utilized that can be set up to provide security labels for children's ministry. It can also be used to check in for Sunday School or other events as well. This is tied to the attendance so that if the check in is utilized, the support staff/volunteer posting of attendance is reduced as well.

Then you have the support. If you ever run into a question or issue, there are wikis to help you along. The wikis are not just a long list of stuff, but are set up so that when you click the "?" button, it opens the wiki that is specific to the page you are on, so no more searching for what you need in a long list. If that doesn't help, you always have the support team standing by so you can call and get assistance as well. They are always ready to serve and never talk down to you because you ask a "dumb" question.

Recommendations to other buyers: Your product only works as well as the data you put into it. I recommend making sure your data is "cleaned up" before you drop it into Realm. It will make it easier to work with when you get started.

Comments: REALM is a great new software that integrates all the wonderful software tools that ACS offers into one! The updated platform and functionality add intuitiveness and functionality. The roll out pace of additional features is unprecedented. We're working on transitioning and initially thought that date would be next summer; however, after working with Mark Burkhart and talking with other REALM staff at ACS, we could possibly transition as early as this summer. The best part of all - this new shiny model is not more expensive! One of the most impressive features are the dashboards available for giving, attendance and membership. Dashboards keep your members, visitors and other crucial information up front and visible every time you log in. Much better than having to run reports. ACS truly wants to help its church customer base minister to others more efficiently.

CONS: Any change can be challenging, especially for non-profits like churches. We added 2 new components - Facility Scheduler and Access - 2 years ago and switched to ACS financials a month ago. We introduced it to our membership 1 year ago. Since all of this

Comments: I attended the Realm sessions at the 2016 conference & fell in love. I'm hoping we make the switch by the end of the year (from The City). I volunteered at a ministry that uses ServantKeeper. It's functional for their purposes but a little clunky. The church I worked for last year used PowerChurch and it was quite good for their congregation of 130. But Realm looks to beat the socks off both of those. It's user friendly, intuitive, clean, practical and oh so pretty! I'm rating it a 4 just because I haven't actually used it, but wanted to give my impression as compared to the other two softwares.

Probably Will Go with Realm

Comments: We are comparing PowerChurch, Servant Keeper and Realm. Of the three, Realm is the most robust, organized and simplest to jump right in without a lot of training. We can track records in our Adult Spiritual Education program. We can track visitor outreach. We can track attendance collectively and individually.

Gift entry is awesome! You must enter a batch first, meaning the full dollar amount of your deposit; then you enter individual gifts against that dollar amount. If the final figures do not match, you know immediately that you have a data entry error. Can't tell you how much I love this feature!

Also, they have a super robust wiki site that explains every facet of their software. The info is broken down into bite-sized, easily digestible chunks. It is presented through a combo of pictures, videos, and text. Very well laid out; easy to navigate.

I found things in the free demo that made no sense to me. The help button to me to the wiki site where I was able to easily get my question answered. I rarely use the help on other software programs because it¿s confusing and not worth the effort.

By contrast, I spent over an hour each with the folks from PowerChurch and Servant Keeper to get help making sense of their software.

All 3 solutions are highly customizable. But, Realm is the most organized. For example, our education program includes 2-3 years of classes. I need to track students through classes and know when they¿ve finished. Both PowerChurch and Servant Keeper allow me to create a customized tracking system. But each makes use of multiple screens that take some effort to navigate between. Because this info is entered periodically (not daily), I'm concerned my volunteers will need to retrained every time they use it.

Realm offers a solution where everything is on one screen. No complicated navigation. Can¿t guarantee a volunteer won't need retraining, but they¿ll only have one thing to learn and remember with Realm.

It's the right price point for a church of our size. The ONLY reason for the 4-stars overall is that the accounting module is extra and I cannot find the cost for it ANYWHERE on their site. Very frustrating! Also Realm does not integrate with MailChimp. Just Constant Contact (my least favorite email solution). If it weren't for the data conversion, we'd be able to get started for under $200! You can¿t beat that kind of value. The only reason we wouldn't go with Realm is that I get outvoted. :)
