March 4, 2025

### "Every guitarist, maybe even musicians, should be aware of Guitar Pro!"

September 18, 2023

5.0

My overall experience with Guitar Pro is excellent. I will continue to use it for my personal, professional, and educational purposes for the foreseeable future. I regularly recommend it to my students, colleagues, and other working professionals in the music industry.

Pros

Put very simply, Guitar Pro is one of the reasons I am as accomplished as a guitarist as I am today. When I was 18-19 yo, starting to use Guitar Pro (it was version 3 at the time) completely change the way I learned music. I had struggled for years to try and learn to play music by Dream Theater; their music is complex, technical, and normally quite long. Having Guitar Pro allowed me to break down the pieces, focus on specific sections, and gradually work up the parts. It still took a lot of work, but I was finally able to get the songs down. This lead to me working with a variety of different musicians, bands, and people who ended up becoming my current business partners. We now run a private music school in London, Ontario, Canada and make use of the latest version, Guitar Pro 8, on a daily basis. It is perfect for providing charts, creating exercises, and I even use it for putting together my own original compositions. As I said in the title, if you are a guitarist you owe it to yourself to spend some time working with Guitar Pro. It has something to offer for every player, even if just as tool for developing your own ideas.

Cons

The only complaint I have about Guitar Pro is that the interface for building or editing instrumental parts that aren't guitar or bass are rather awkward. Although I prefer using Guitar Pro, I've found that the interface when building drum and keyboard parts is much more intuitive when using a program like Sibelius. However, there is a reason they don't call it "Drum Pro" or "Piano Pro" :)

Reason for choosing Guitar Pro

I prefer Guitar Pro as the interface and overall system is geared towards accommodating notation for guitarists. I also really like the sound sampling system and new track synchronization feature that has been added in version 8.

### "A Musician's Best Friend"

May 31, 2022

5.0

It's really great using this app and I'm still using it now as I'm happy with it. I guess I'll just have to learn one day and seriously get down to musical notations to be able to maximize my usage of this one. Everything is a checkbox for passing the guitarist's must have app.

Pros

First of all, I'm a self taught musician, and although there's tons of tutorial material online, I just really hadn't delved seriously into musical notations. That's why I like this app's capability to switch from standard sheet music format to guitar tablature mode. Honestly I can read sheet music but it just slows me down. I like the way this app allows you to set up different strumming patterns, plucking, let ring, staccato and even let ring features which is very useful as opposed to preset loading of guitar pattern loops. I wasn't expecting the ukulele feature and it satisfied very well my curiousity. As a guitarist, I just love that it can drill it down to slides, trills, tremolos, and the popular Eddie Van Halen tapping. So I'm a happy camper in using this app. I'm also happy that it can do palm mutings since I'm also a metal music enthusiast.

Cons

I occasionally encountered a few lags when stacking multiple tracks. And I observed that it happens when it's around 7 or more. I can't pin it down if it's the app causing it because I upgraded my computer's RAM after a few weeks from installation and I didn't have issues since. So probably it just my PC not able to process as fast as it should be. Other than that, the app is working smoothly.

Reason for choosing Guitar Pro

I chose this software because it has all the necessary functionalities a guitar must have. Actually, I was considering RealStrat when choosing this because the latter has other effects and patches intended for a guitarist in the Rock and Metal genre.

### "A great tool that keeps evolving and getting better."

July 9, 2020

5.0

I've used this for years in different versions. It's made it easy for me to create tabbings to share with my students, as well as collaborate with other musicians on writing projects.

Pros

It's more than just a tabbing software - there's lots of those and many are free. This has an easy-to-use interface, loads quickly, and has many options. And it keeps getting better - it's getting to a point where the tool is starting to truly be competitive with full-scale music notation/arrangement software for a fraction of the price ($50 vs $300+). Allows the creation of professional-looking charts and sheet music. Has superior playback quality (both MIDI and simulated realistic instruments). Progression/melody generation and analysis as well.

Cons

Sometimes the standard notation bit looks wonky/isn't arranged in perfect context (stem directions and etc) but this can mostly be manually corrected.

Reason for choosing Guitar Pro

It just works the best, in my opinion, and has the most straightforward and fastest input.

### "Awesome Tabs That Help You Learn Music"

December 16, 2020

4.0

Guitar Pro is extraordinary compared to other music notation devices out there. It takes some time to learn but it's easy to use once you get the hang of it. There is a large range of sounds and options that make this software better than it's competitors, but you'll need to put in effort to learn the user interface and find sounds that are the perfect fit for your project.

Pros

I love Guitar Pro! It encourages me with my guitar lesson plans and putting my music to paper. It has a ton of choices to make life simpler and works admirably at that! I like the Tab-altering too. It changes the game of writing music and it's functionality is excellent. It's very easy to learn and use so I would highly recommend it!

Cons

Sometimes the UI is frustrating to deal with. It can be difficult to find the correct choice or apparatus to match your song. It can take some time to discover the right sounds; maybe a big longer than some of it's competitors. I feel the program is very useful for music creation, but the drum sounds and mixing options are somewhat limited as well. All in all, the interface can be a bit confusing to learn, but with time, you'll be able to figure it out and make songs that sounds professional.

Reason for choosing Guitar Pro

The price of Guitar Pro is in line with it's competitors, but it has more options and flexibility than some of the other top guitar tab tools out there. It's easier to use and has a high functionality even when using slower computers. It's range of sounds and options is attractive and it's not much more expensive than some of the other leading software products.

### "Exploring new melodies and learning to play and create my own compositions"

June 29, 2023

5.0

One of the features that I appreciate the most is the realistic sound reproduction. Being able to hear how each note, chord, and riff sounds on different instruments has helped me improve my playing and techniques.

Pros

One of the things that has fascinated me the most is the versatility and ease that it offers to edit and create tablatures and scores, but what has really impressed me is the possibility of reproducing the compositions that I have created, since in this application I can faithfully reproduce the sound of each instrument, allowing me to hear how each chord, each arpeggio and each solo sounds.

Cons

Sometimes when I try to edit an existing chord or add a new one I find it a bit cumbersome and not as intuitive as other features within the software. It would be great to have a more intuitive and friendly interface for chord editing, simplifying the process and increasing efficiency.

### "Great product to write music in easy way"

May 29, 2018

4.0

This software give me the chance to write music too fast, even when i had not too knowledge of music. It allows you to write like string pressing way, giving a good way to save all your ideas in a faster way. The option that have some tabs open is a good plus because it give you the chance to see more information whitout leaving the same screen.

Pros

This product is really good to write your songs fast. It allows a large number of variants of instruments that gives you versatility at the writing time. The new versions (6 and 7) are a little bit more complicated to locate all the panels, but once you got the way, the process is more simple than before. A light weight product that helps you to write music with a correct syntax, fast and efficent. The option to add sound banks is a great add-on to create music with a characteristic real sound.

Cons

The user interface is not too easy to understand at first time, it took some minutes to know where are all the sets and how to use it. Adding to it, the RSE (sound bancks) some time are too heavy and the software turns slower.

### "This is a great music editor "

February 11, 2018

5.0

Improve my skills in music

Pros

The program has many functions. It is possible to carry out a set of percussion, wind and stringed instruments. In general, there are about 180 musical instruments in the program. Basically the program is designed for guitarists. Although other musicians can work in it. The program is useful for amateur and professional musicians, there is absolutely everything to improve their playing level. Tablature can be typed from the keyboard, there is support for third-party Input synthesizers, support for MIDI-input, MIDI-export. You can convert files to PDF, Word and some other formats for ease of printing. This is a great music editor that allows you to adjust, create and listen to music recordings created by this program. It's not difficult to use. If you like to compose and play music - I think that this program is indispensable.

Cons

The only disadvantage, probably, is that to work with Guitar Pro Program you need to have at least some skills of solfeggio (at least know the duration of notes and sizes) - If this is the case it will be much easier for you.

### "Necessary Software if you want to learn how to play guitar, but also If you have a band"

February 23, 2020

5.0

The experience is great! it is easier to practice when having a reference tune to follow, and also to edit your tabs is great since it lets you have your own versions of the songs. I have improved my skills and song repertory since using this tool

Pros

As a guitar player I love the fact that I can practice the songs I want to learn and the software provides a lot of tools that help with that, the ones I love the most to use is the tempo, in which if I need to go slower it will go and play on a slower tempo and highlighting the notes, in that way I am aware of what I am playing good or bad. Also the fact that I can edit the tab for a better playing for example, a D note you can play it on the 4th string or on the 5th string so if by some reason the sequence of notes that you are playing, ask to be more comfortable to play it on the 5th string you just go ahead and edit the tab to your convenience to have a better playing. Also it is not only for guitar, the songs comes with a package that if you have a band you can split on the different instruments, Drums, Bass, etc and practice by separate using the tracks feature which I really love since it lets you start by your self, but the helps you to get use to the rest of instruments that regularly is a challenge

Cons

Besides being and Engineer I am a musician so it is easy for me to use it, but when I recommend it to someone that is learning or starting it turns to a complex tools to use, so it should have a little of a a more friendly interface for new musicians learning. Also the midi sounds are not a high quality and sometimes if you are really picky you will here a delay on drumms,

### "Guitar players everywhere need this!"

July 31, 2019

5.0

Pros

High-quality guitar music that is easy to access. This program comes with a lot of extras too. It includes a metronome, chord map, tuner, and the ability to easily edit sheet music. I would highly recommend to any guitar player of any skill level. There are a lot of additional instructional and useful tools that can help you continue to improve your guitar playing skills.

Cons

It costs money. There are similar free apps that you can use however they have nowhere near the quality or quantity of tools that Guitar Pro has.

### "The ultimate tool for every musician and music enthusiasts "

July 27, 2018

5.0

Pros

I've been using Guitar Pro for awhile and it has always pleased me, its a powerful tool if you are a pro and if you are amateur it's good as well. Great for music producers, composers and pro players. If you're an amateur it can help you too because the TAB section will give you all you need to play your music if you don't know how to actually read a partiture

Cons

The live instrument emulator is not good enough, compared to other software, maybe you'll rather (jus like i do) to use the MIDI default playback

### "Excellent program for music composition, not limited to guitars"

July 11, 2018

5.0

Guitar Pro allows me to translate my song ideas into a tangible form which I can share with others. I've used it in every musical collaboration I've ever participated in and can't imagine its absence or trying to use some other program.

Pros

The tools contained within Guitar Pro are instrumental in creating musical compositions. My favorite feature is the "Scale Finder," which essentially identifies a scale in your random jumble of notes and steers you towards a better composition. I've been using Guitar Pro for over a decade and I've found that I keep coming back even after trying other music composition programs from time to time. The ease of use is unparalleled in the industry- somebody with zero musical knowledge can pick it up and start writing songs.

Cons

Some of the older versions were a bit buggy, though that seems to have been fixed. I genuinely have no complaints, however, for the modern version.

### "good program for the development of the guitar as a performer"

July 19, 2018

5.0

My private guitar lessons have improved a lot since I incorporated this program into the lessons. With guitar pro I can see the progress of my students individually. Performing and repeating the fingering exercises. I also work on musical reading with the instrument. Guitar pro has allowed me to raise the technical and musical level of my students.

Pros

\- It requires few computer resources. - Cleaner and more understandable interface - Lighter and runs faster. - Good guitar sounds - You can play the guitar with the tabs. - It has speed tools and looper. - You can connect the guitar directly to the computer.

Cons

I have nothing negative to say about guitar pro. It is an excellent program for the study of the electric guitar.

### "The best tool to learn to play the guitar"

March 25, 2021

I have had good experience, I have learned to play the guitar using this tool.

Pros

The guitar is not an easy instrument to learn, but with Guitar Pro you can achieve it in a short time, it is very complete, it has helped me a lot, you can repeat looping patterns if you wish, you can search for thousands of scores on the net and play songs of your favorite artists.

Cons

I think the price should go down so that more people can buy them, I have no complaints about the application, it works quite well for me.

### "A must-have for every musician"

August 26, 2018

5.0

I've been writing all my musical pieces in GP for the last six years.

Pros

I've been using Guitar Pro for a looong time. So far the best software for writing down your music composition. It's easy to use, the tools are pretty self-explanatory if you know music theory. It offers a variety of tools to write the music, use different instruments, apply the real sound banks in your composition, use different tuning etc.

Cons

It has some bugs considering midi playbacks, sometimes the sound starts to overlap.

### "El software principal para aprender musica"

November 3, 2022

4.0

June 10, 2021

Overall a great app for guitar players and overall music loves. It helps to increase your creativity and improve your skills. A bit pricey for all the features but with the price.

Pros

Our worship leader recommended the app which allows you to practice songs, create music or simply enjoy playing. May features including editing music sheets and easy share.

Cons

It may be a little tricky to use as the features and use can be a bit overwhelming but you can find plenty of videos with guidance. It is a bit price as well.

### "This software helped me become a better musician and have a better understanding of sheet music."

March 20, 2018

5.0

It has allowed me to become a better musician, helping me understand music notation and serving as a platform to write down all my musical ideas. I have used it for many years now and I can't imagine using a different software for the same tasks.

Pros

It allows you to write melodies in sheet music even when you don't know how to read this music notation. It has a simple interface that facilitates its use to both beginner and professional musicians. It's compatible with Musical Instrument Digital Interface protocols. It has a vast library of instrument sounds.

Cons

The writing of percussion instruments like drums become really tedious and annoying. Therefore, the software should have a different interface to facilitate this process. Importing files inside the software translates in many cases into disorganized scores that require manual fixation by the user

### "Almost too powerful"

May 22, 2019

5.0

I'm often disappointed with tabs that my students find online, or that are available online. To write it out by hand every time I need to teach something to a student is tedious, at best, and sometimes inconsistent if it's been a while since the last time I wrote the same thing out for another student. Having an electronic file that I can edit if I find a transcription error, and the ability to play it back to confirm/correct rhythm timings has been extremely valuable. The feature that lets you automatically transpose something for different alternate tunings has been great as well.

Pros

The versatility of this software is great, and it has been invaluable to my guitar teaching.

Cons

The reason I say this software is almost too powerful is that, with all of the features that it supports, doing certain things can often become a very complicated to work around some of the constraints. Over all, though, it's great and highly recommended.

### "The Ultimate Tool for the Discerning Musician"

February 15, 2019

5.0

Guitar Pro has been a personal use software for me, and doesn't solve any business problems. Guitar Pro has always been a positive experience as it allows me to get lost in my music.

Pros

What I like the most about Guitar Pro is that it enables me to put the melodies and beats in my head on to paper, even before I have touched and instrument, especially in cases where it is an instrument that I do not play (like the drums). I like how easy it is to use and how it allows me to be creative. Editing sheet music has never been easier to do, and reading sheet music has never been more fun!

Cons

What I like the least about Guitar Pro, especially version 7, is that they rushed the release to market and irritated a lot of long term users with all the bugs that were still present. These bugs have been fixed and the software is really great now, but it leaves a bad taste.

### "Guitar Pro taught me to play the guitar"

April 14, 2019

5.0

Pros

I learned playing the guitar thru Guitar Pro. As a person who has problems reading time signatures of notes and keeping time, Guitar Pro has aided me as I am able to listen to the pieces with the proper timing. I then just need to follow the pace. I eventually became good enough to play without the assistance of Guitar Pro but I still use the software every now and then to learn a piece or two. Many people are using this software to compose which means there is a vast collection of guitar pieces.

Cons

I don't really have much to say in terms of negatives for the software. One thing is that it can be taxing on the computer. I use an old laptop and I have observed that it can take a while to load and the transition of the music sheet to each measure can get delayed at times.
