### "Simple and fast diagram tool with minor layout issues"

May 14, 2026

5.0

Overall my experience with draw.io has been really good. It’s my go‑to tool for quick diagrams at work because it’s simple, free and doesn’t get in the way. I use it for flowcharts, process mapping and even small technical diagrams. It saves me time and I don’t need heavy design tools for basic stuff. There are small annoyances like lag or cluttered menus, but nothing that stops me from using it daily. For everyday diagramming, it’s reliable and easy to learn.

Pros

draw.io is how easy it is to make flowcharts and process maps without needing any fancy software. I use it at work for quick diagrams, network layouts and simple workflows, and it’s super fast to drag things around. The templates help a lot when I don’t want to start from scratch. I also like that it works right in the browser and saves to Drive, so I don’t have to install anything. The shapes library is huge and covers almost everything I need.

Cons

Sometimes the interface feels a bit crowded, especially when I open too many panels. A few features are hidden in menus and take time to find. When diagrams get big, it can lag a little or feel slow to move things around. Collaboration works but not as smooth as some other tools. Also exporting to certain formats sometimes messes up spacing and I have to fix it manually. Not major issues but small things that slow me down.

### "Diagramming Tool for Network Projects"

April 10, 2025

4.0

It's a powerful and flexible tool for creating network diagrams, technical visuals. I appreciate that it's free to use, integrates well with Google Drive, and offers a wide variety of stencils for network architecture, cloud environments, and system designs.

Pros

Open Source Software, Rich Template and Shape Library , Offline access

Cons

Auto-layout and snapping features can be finicky, especially with complex diagrams.

Switched from

[Visio](https://www.capterra.com/p/201133/Visio/)

I made the switch from Visio to draw.io primarily because of its cost-effectiveness, simplicity, and flexibility. Visio is a powerful tool, but for most of my network diagrams, infrastructure layouts, and process flows, draw.io gets the job done without the licensing headaches.

### "Basic Diagramming Tool, But Lacks Modern Appeal"

November 1, 2024

3.0

Overall, while draw.io provides useful templates for beginners, it doesn’t match the features or ease of newer platforms. Saving files before editing can feel tedious, and the interface isn’t as intuitive as other tools. This tool is functional, but I would recommend other options for a smoother experience.

Pros

Draw.io offers some solid templates for beginners, making it a decent choice for simple diagramming. It’s functional and straightforward for users new to diagram tools.

Cons

The website feels outdated and hard to navigate. Templates lack visual appeal, and the AI for creating diagrams doesn’t work as smoothly as expected. Additionally, having to save the file to your PC before starting can be inconvenient, especially if you decide to switch templates mid-way.

### "Diagramming that just works"

October 27, 2025

5.0

We use it extensively during project / task planning, whether that's making decisions on Azure infrastructure or traditional flowcharts.

Pros

It's fast to load, easy to work with, takes minutes to learn and provides excellent value for money for us. Plenty of shapes are provided via the template library, from room layouts to process mapping.

Cons

Nothing really - it does everything we need it to do and more! Hard to see a con in this tool to be honest.

### "Simple yet powerful "

August 23, 2025

Decently intuitive and simple app to use. It has all shapes you would need to create system designs and flow shafts pretty easily

Pros

Simple, effective and has all most of the basics narrowed down. It is able to handle the basics decently well

Cons

It is a little too simple for what it can do. There are other alternatives that are better with doing all the simple stuff like connections. Sometimes moving an item derails all arrows

### "No 1 open-source diagram maker - Need improvements on Linux and icons"

December 12, 2025

5.0

Pros

This software is open-source and compatible with all operating systems. The web version is also excellent, and the templates are impressive. It has a user-friendly interface that allows me to map the entire process flow quickly.

Cons

There are issues with Linux Lubuntu desktop apps where I can't reopen the Draw.io file based on its extension. I had to reopen it manually from the recent files. Sometimes, the icons appear outdated.

### "Best design tool be it online or offline"

September 12, 2025

5.0

I use it for 10+ years. In my field I didn't find a better alternative. It's reliable, easy to use, and supports a wide range of diagramming needs from simple flowcharts to complex architecture diagrams. The constant updates, cloud integration, and offline flexibility make it an indispensable tool in my daily work.

Pros

Excellent sketch and design product. Can be used in browser or deployed as an app. Has a lot of 3rd party design elements.

Cons

Export features could be better, and the interface can sometimes feel cluttered with too many options. Large diagrams may slow down performance, and integrations beyond Google Drive or OneDrive are somewhat limited.

### "Great for most diagramming needs"

May 5, 2025

4.0

draw.io is my default tool for creating diagrams for professional projects. While there aren't any super premium features, It's totally free and comes with loads of templates from all industries to simplify the process of creating great architecture diagrams.

Pros

#1, draw.io is free and open source, yet professional grade. You don't even need an account to use it, you are immediately dropped into a diagramming interface. You can choose to store your diagram locally or on any number of cloud storage providers. There are a vast number of templates from all companies and the export options are plentiful.

Cons

Being free and with no login, there is a lack of collaboration features. It's not as convenient as other diagramming tools, although you can share the cloud files. Occasionally the interface will lag, especially if you are dealing with large files. If you run into issues, you need to deal with community support which has no SLA.

Does everything I need, is easy to use, and it just works. I keep coming back to draw.io as the alternatives have not been able to convince me to switch.

Pros

So easy to use and versatile. Allows me to create all the diagrams I could ever need for our projects. I mostly create flowcharts and system diagrams.

Cons

Look and feel can be a bit basic, but it is functional and gets the job done. I use the online version, so sometimes it can be a bit slow, but still useable.

### "Great diagram software"

5.0

Pros

draw.io is a super intuitive tool to make any kind of mind maps, flowcharts, flow diagrams, etc. It has a lot of customization options and pixel precise movements. I like that it is very easy to move arrows and visually arrange the flowchart in any way.

Cons

It is already a very good software, but I would like an autosave option for the desktop app. I also would like better options for export to make it easier to integrate a diagram into a Word document.

### "Diagramming is wonderful to do in Draw.io"

April 24, 2025

5.0

My overall experience with Draw.io has been wonderful. It is free and open-source and is quite powerful compared to its paid counterparts. I used to use LucidChart for my diagramming and it was not the most fun to use and did not have a local installation version. The price was also expensive for my needs. Draw.io has many of the similar features of LucidChart such as templates and connecting lines. It is also much more customizable in the user interface as well. It supports importing Microsoft Visio files too if you want to switch. The only thing that is annoying is the “Layers” panel cannot be docked to a sidebar which means you have to open it every time you open a file and resize it which becomes annoying. Draw.io also doesn’t have some of the features as other paid software but considering it is free, I am not too upset. I have enjoyed my experience with it overall.

Pros

oFree oOpen source oDark Mode oCan import Visio diagrams oMany templates to choose from oCustomizable oLocal & Online versions

Cons

oCannot dock layers panel oMissing some features of other paid software oCan be a bit finicky in some areas

### "One of the best in the market"

January 18, 2025

Great features that fit the majority of my use cases. Opportunities exist but it’s one of the best in the market

Pros

Very easy to create diagrams to explain topics and concepts. Great set of free shapes and icons. Love how it integrates directly in confluence as well.

Cons

Arrows can be annoying as default includes elbows that sometimes overlap other shapes. You can update to a straight line which often looks better but it doesn’t save this. Personalization options could be better overall.

### "The most intuitive and well-thought-out flowchart and diagram maker!"

February 17, 2019

5.0

It has been extremely useful in my work to display the workflow of a mobile application to people who are not very acquainted with technology. It was indeed very easy and quick to create personalized diagrams of any size, especially because there are many templates to choose from. All those templates are crafted professionally and give you a great starting point for any kind of project. It is also superbly adapted to suit businesses, as it can import from many services including Dropbox, OneDrive, GitHub, Google Drive and Trello. This makes it simple to share a file with anyone in the office, especially considering the many export options available. Because it is a reliable and fast software, I ended up designing quick projects for my company and it has worked flawlessly since the first time I opened it to try it out.

Pros

It is very easy to style any diagram to your needs, but the default templates look great out of the box too! I don't play much with styles, but I use the other integrated tools quite a lot, including those for aligning, resizing and distributing elements. There are in fact many different elements to choose from and it's easy to find what you are looking for because everything is nicely categorized. I particularly enjoy how easy it is to position and connect the pieces together in the grid: you can quickly duplicate boxes, draw arrows between them or insert text that are perfectly aligned with everything else. Because of the underlying technologies it uses behind the scenes, the software is available on the web (online or offline with an extension) and it also offers desktop applications, which work equally well. When working with larger diagrams, the outline view comes in very handy. The software allows to export to many useful formats such as PNG, JPEG, SVG, PDF, HTML and others and provides options to get the code to embed the diagram as an image (including SVG) or even inside Google Docs and Google Slides. It is so intuitive that I never had the need to follow along the nonetheless excellent tutorials available on their website.

Cons

There isn't much to be said against such a well designed piece of software. I will point out, however, that even though I'm usually a huge fan of using the dark theme in as many applications as possible, I found it very distracting with draw.io. The contrasts weren't accentuated enough to my taste and I found it hard to see clearly the outline of the boxes in the diagram when working with a grid. The other themes (Kennedy, Minimal and Atlas) are fantastic, but I like using the default theme most.

### "Best for students for making charts and diagrams and team work "

December 29, 2022

5.0

Diagram.net is a useful and flexible tool for creating diagrams and charts. It is easy to use and has a user-friendly interface, making it a great alternative to Microsoft PowerPoint for creating visual presentations. One of the standout features of diagram.net is its ability to collaborate with a team in real time. This can be especially helpful when working on a shared project or presentation, as it allows multiple people to contribute and make changes to the same diagram simultaneously. Additionally, diagram.net offers a wide range of templates and customization options, allowing users to create professional-looking diagrams with minimal effort. Overall, diagram.net is a valuable tool for anyone looking to create visual content for presentations or team projects.

Pros

As a university student, I have found diagrams.net to be an incredibly useful tool for my academic work. Not only has it saved me a lot of time and effort when it comes to creating diagrams and charts for my assignments, but it has also proven to be a valuable resource for creating frameworks and mind maps for my research papers and theses. The platform has a wide range of templates and shapes to choose from, which makes it easy to customize my diagrams to fit my specific needs. I also appreciate the ability to collaborate with my classmates and work on projects together in real-time. The platform saves our progress automatically, so we don't have to worry about losing our work.Overall, I highly recommend diagrams.net to any university student who needs to create diagrams or charts for their academic work. It's a great tool that has helped me stay organized and make the most of my team projects.

Cons

One issue I have encountered with diagrams.net is that it can be difficult to connect lines between shapes. Sometimes the lines don't snap into place as easily as I would like, and I have to spend a lot of time adjusting them to get them to look right.Another issue I have found is that there are not very many options for line designs. While the basic straight and curved lines are fine for some diagrams, it would be nice to have more variety in line styles and thicknesses to choose from. While diagrams.net is generally a user-friendly platform, I have found that it can be a bit slow to load at times. This can be frustrating when I'm trying to work quickly and efficiently.

### "Draw.io - the best free diagramming app "

August 13, 2023

5.0

Overall, I have always had a great experience with draw.io. I first used it in my university days to develop various diagrams required for my assignment. Since then, I have been using it and have recommended many friends and collogues to use it. I have tried other software like draw.io but have never considered switching to any one of them.

Pros

The fact that draw.io is completely free for everyone is the best part about it. Many of it's competitors have expensive pricing plans. Draw.io is so easy to use and accessible to anyone, anywhere. A beginner can learn to use draw.io in less than an hour. One of the best features about draw.io is it's drag and drop feature which comes in handy all the time. We have been using draw.io in our office for more than a year now for making flowcharts, ER Diagrams, class diagrams, activity diagrams and other diagrams required to develop an app or a software.

Cons

The fact that draw.io does not have a lot of templates is something that I don't like. Other software offer much more templates than draw.io but at a cost.

### "Amazing tool"

June 4, 2023

4.0

This tool overall is great for making diagrams quickly and easily.

Pros

One of the things I liked most about draw.io is its ease of use. It has a drag & drop feature that makes it easy to work with and manipulate different shapes and lines. There are also built-in templates for different diagrams that can be used to create something from scratch quickly. Additionally, the ability to save and export diagrams as different file types (e.g. PDF, JPG, etc.) is convenient.

Cons

The least thing I liked about draw.io is that it can be difficult to select individual elements sometimes. For example, when creating complex diagrams, elements often overlap with each other which can make selecting the desired elements difficult. Also, the UI can be quite cluttered and difficult to navigate.

### "A must-have tool for making all kinds of diagrams"

June 8, 2021

4.0

If you're looking for a simple, straightforward tool for drawing flowcharts and other basic kinds of diagrams, then you have found the perfect option. Give it a try!

Pros

This is by far one of the easiest programs that I have ever found for drawing all sorts of diagrams. It's deceptively simple, too--the drag-and-drop interface, which includes all kinds of helpful features such as adjustable gridlines, snapping to guides and handles, and a relatively wide range of built-in image/icon/symbol "libraries" (e.g., flowchart symbols, electronic schematic symbols, architectural symbols), is easy enough that anyone can use it. But start clicking around, and you discover that you can tinker under the hood and directly manipulate the XML code that the software is generating, which means that you can do some impressive stuff with this otherwise very basic software. And it's free, too!

Cons

While I don't intend this as a criticism, I can imagine that some people would complain that the basic features and functionality of the software is too basic or "plain," and that stylistic controls are limited. (This is, in fact, one of the things I like most... no distracting formats and bells and whistles to keep me from getting my work done!) The pop-up window at startup that invites you to start from a supposed "template" is useless and should be ignored. And it can be tricky to add symbol libraries if what you need isn't included by default.

### "diagrams.net review"

November 3, 2022

5.0

My overall experience with diagrams.net has been great, I did many of my college works and projects through this software. In this pricing range, a good tool to collaborate on and deliver amazing outcomes. It is simple to incorporate in the cloud and may be shared as a Google document or updated within the shared file.

Pros

The thing that I liked the most about diagrams.net is as follows, - Data access is very easy and provides flexibility for users and project collaborations with teams is easier since the data can be accessed through cloud platforms- Suitable and preferred diagrams is easier to search as they have easy diagram searching feature- Data backup and recovery is very easy- It is easily integrated with different other apps and tools so it makes user's work easier

Cons

The thing that I liked least about diagrams.net is as follows,- There are few shapes available, and the UI appears to be difficult to navigate sometimes for beginners- If the internet quality is not so good, then the downloaded file might not open properly or gets low quality - If you do not save and/or download your draft before turning off your device, it is very likely that it will be lost

I have had a very positive experience using diagrams.net. It is a great platform for creating diagrams quickly and easily. I have used it to create flowcharts, mind maps, org charts, and other visuals.

### "I've caught everyone I recommend using it."

August 31, 2022

I met a long time ago and benefited from many presentations and reports, including public projects. I am very satisfied and recommend it.

Pros

You can benefit from a lot of resources at once, completely free of charge. There is neither missing nor more 3rd party application integration. Diagrams are ready that you can drag and drop to everyone. It has universality. It is an application that everyone will fall into one day.

Cons

I think more integrations would be nice, and maybe more diverse and up-to-date themes should be added. Of course, there has been no update on the diagram for a long time, but there is an opportunity as users' needs are constantly changing.

### "draw.io is one of the simplest tools for your software architecture and design documents"

November 20, 2023

5.0

Overall, the experience of drawing with draw.io is so light weight that I will always go back to if for my software design diagrams

Pros

The most significant benefit of draw.io is the simplicity to get started. It is very straightforward to use and easy to understand the tool and its menus. Within minutes you can figure out how to use it to draw your software design.

Cons

The Cloud specific images, like AWS or Azure could be a little more high quality and less plain. It would be nice if the icons for various cloud services could be as similar as their official icons as possible, though they are still recognizable.
