Pros It's very easy to use for beginners and also pretty powerful for professionals. I use blender almost every day and will continue to use it although I have other professional 3d modelling software. Also you can't be it being completely free. You can do realistic, highly detailed work without spending a penny - something that is amazing considering the price of other professional software that's available for this sort of thing. If you're dedicated, this is all you will need for a wide variety of projects. Cons The learning curve. Relative to other options - it's not terribly complicated by any means. But the fact is - any 3D modeling software with this type of flexibility is going to be very time consuming to learn, and unfortunately, Blender is absolutely no exception to that rule. For example: when first learning Blender (and 3D modeling in general), I took several hours to look at various tutorials and practice a little bit. I successfully made a polygonal palm tree and a coconut with eyeballs. It was super simple looking (albeit aesthetically pleasing), but took many an hour. It took far less time to forget how I accomplished all of that when I took a hiatus from Blender. Pros Blender has always been my favorite piece of freeware. Compared to much more expensive 3D software like Maya and Cinema4D, Blender has a lot of the same features for none of the cost. I mostly use it for animation and compositing for video projects, but the possibilities are only limited by your imagination. Plus, the online community is HUGE and the tutorials are endless. Cons The user interface can get a little cramped, and is very overwhelming if you are just getting started (although this is the case with any 3D modeling program). Additionally, being freeware, customer support is very limited and there isn't any kind of live phone/chat help. You can often beat free with programs that offer good quality content, but in this case with blender nothing beats free. I am finding myself using Adobe, or other paid for software, a lot less now as I learn a lot more with blender. Pros I love that it is open source and that it is completely free to use. If you pay, they have a monthly subscription for their online classes/tutorials which are very great. I like how this software is becoming a one for all platform for me. I am finding that I can do all my graphic needs on this software. 3D modeling for printing, 3D logo design and 2D now with their grease pencil option, animations for logo design and video editing. There is so much this software offers and at no cost. Cons There is a lot to learn with this software, and it will take time and a few frustrating moments. Although that should be expected when dealing with a software that has so many options for use. Give yourself a few months to learns with tutorials and practice and you will love it. Blender provided all of the necessary tools and resources to help me succeed at animation when I have never attempted to animate anything before in my life! Pros Blender provided the perfect platform for me to bring my reconstructed Dead Sea Scrolls fragmentary manuscripts to life for my students and for presentations to the academy. I previously had ZERO experience working with animation software and do not consider myself capable of doing high-quality animations, however, Blender provided the ease of use and online tutorials that provided me with the information I needed to go from knowing nothing to creating a visually immersive experience for my students that has brought numerous compliments and accolades from colleagues. Cons While the software did exactly what I needed it to do and I was able to successfully produce a high-quality product for my scholarly presentations, the learning curve was quite steep for a novice like myself.
