Teacher Education Management Used the software for: 6-12 months ### "Not There Yet" October 11, 2018 3.0 So far it has not worked across our school. There are too many holes in the alarm sounding. It isn't a reliable source for getting the information out. Pros The idea is great. A secret alarm to warn teachers of a threat. Cons It is very inconsistent. Doesn't work on all devices. I was exploring the app, pushed a button and my school accidentally went into lock down." December 19, 2017 4.0 Pros It's simple and it works. The interface is easy to understand and navigate. It's quick and everyone that has their electronic device (be it computer or phone) with the app installed get's notified. Cons It's very sensitive and too easy to use. When you push a button it does what it's supposed to do. I wish it had a window that asked "are you sure?". I couldn't find where it explains what to do in different scenarios. I wish I could have access to that. Every teacher seems to have issues of some kind. Pros In theory, I think this app could be very helpful in an actual emergency situation but it hasn't proven to consistently work. Cons It's frustrating to pilot something. Especially when the issue our school seems to be having is out of everyone's control. " December 19, 2017 5.0 Definitely peace of mind as a teacher. It's always scary and worrisome to think that during an emergency you may not be able to get a hold of someone. Pros I've used a different emergency app in past year and this DIR-S is far better and way easier to us. Cons It's a little confusing trying to find the building or location you are in. It could also be because our school is so large too though. " January 5, 2018 4.0 Pros I love that it has a chat feature so if we are in an emergency we can get information quickly and everyone can say what they need to. Cons I do not like that if someone is looking at the emergency buttons it pulls it up automatically on my computer. With it being such a new feature some teachers have looked at what the options were and it alerted me during class even though there wasn't an emergency. " December 19, 2017 5.0 Pros This gives our school a better system to check on the safety of staff and students. The feature of the map is awesome so you know exactly where safety issues are. The chat room gives even more information for all involved in a dangerous situation. Cons You have to be near an electronic device, wifi has to be working or telephone connection is required. December 19, 2017 5.0 Pros I love the safe or not safe feature and I love that we can quickly identify which rooms are safe. It will really allow teachers and police officers to respond quickly and efficiently to emergencies. Cons When we had a drill or accident today there was a lot of chaos and no option to mark safe or unsafe. It didn't seem to be working properly and it was very stressful. If anything happened any one of us has the power to perform a lockdown drill, fire drill, etc. Having it on both our computers and phones is so handy since I know I’ll always get the alert as long as I have my phone close. Cons Can be a little tricky to install the first time, but we had a customer service agent at our school several times this year making sure we had our questions answered, and we were all logged in correctly. September 28, 2017 5.0 Price and Safety! Pros The interactive mapping tool is really fast, helps first responders know what is going on. Nice chat feature with details on every message. Cons Cannot zoom in on the desktop app in the mapping feature. I would like to see this in future updates, the phone zooms nice and fast. December 19, 2017 4.0 Pros It makes me feel safe. I can message authorities immediately. Police can see where I am. I love the map so that I can see where incidents are happening. The texting part is great as well. I can know what is going on with everyone in the building. Cons I worry that I might accidentally send a message. Pros If it worked it would be good. The guy trying to help us log in was very nice. Cons By the time everyone was logged on, a shooter could have killed us all. We dont sit around looking at laptops. December 19, 2017 5.0 I don't know other than the software. Pros The entire building and staff will be notified and can notify quickly. The alert is easy to understand and we can communicate anywhere with our phone. Cons What happens if I am outside and I don't have my phone on me? Notifications are limited. Also, on Apple devices the notifications blends in with other notifications and cannot be changed to make it more alarming. Instead of a scramble to get all the info needed in a crisis, all of the pertinent info is in everyones hands. Pros The software is easy to understand and integrate in to any school system. Being able to have a dedicated place to look in an emergency gets rid of a lot of the stress. The whole emergency process is streamlined.
