Academic Higher Education Used the software for: Less than 6 months ### "Transcription made so much easier in a fraction of the time" March 13, 2019 5.0 The support from the Sonix team has been excellent with solving both technical questions related to the product as well as providing advice and payment options to suit my situation as an educator. Very impressive! Pros The software is very intuitive to use and contains really helpful features like being able to review and correct details in the transcript while listening to the audio. This is the first software I have used that recognises and differentiates between multiple voices with a functional level of accuracy. Cons This hardly seems like a disadvantage however, there is an investment of time required in reviewing and correcting 'misinterpretations' of words and phrases in the produced transcript. You also need to manually give an identity to the speaker of each transcribed passage of text though this takes a fraction of the time and cost expended on manual transcription. I realized I could have a rough (to 90% of accuracy) transcript ready in a matter of hours. This was true for Spanish and for some local colloquialisms. Pros I loved that I could break down the transcript every 30 seconds and include timestamps. I also loved that I could listen to the audio as I followed on the transcript to catch any minor typos or mistakes and that I could pick and name the number of voices in my recordings. Also that I could highlight the parts I'd later cut for my podcast. Cons I don't have any cons for the time being. Reason for choosing Sonix Can't remember the alternatives I checked, but I used the free sample Sonix offered and two other alternatives and Sonix's quality was better, it was quicker, had faster customer service and was better for me in terms of pricing. Professional Translator Translation and Localization Used the software for: 6-12 months ### "Sonix does all the job" November 23, 2020 5.0 I worked as a Project Manager before, then I had some transcriptions to be done, and at the time, the company had bought a few hours on the platform, that's how I got to know it. Now that I work by myself and need transcriptions and subtitles from time to time, it's been my ally. It saves me TONS of time I would spend typing and timing everything. Sonix does all the job, and I only need to make a few weeks before generating an export file. It's amazing. And I just love their sense of humor and human touch to it. Pros It's incredibly fast, and it sets the timing for subtitles perfectly. I dread having to time everything myself, and with Sonix I can do that just by pressing Enter. Cons I honestly have nothing to complain about. The transcription only went down on inaccuracy because of the video itself at some specific times, naturally, but mostly it would nail it. Pros Our marketing and communications team uses it for customer interviews and analyst calls. It is incredibly easy to use and just works. Love that we can edit the transcription afterwards too. I used the free trial but would definitely budget for the paid version if I was going to carry out a larger oral history project. I'm also trying to work out how I can use it again in my work, more creatively, as I enjoyed using the interface so much. Pros I liked \*everything\* about Sonic.ai. I used it for transcribing an oral history recording. It saved a huge amount of time and I was really impressed with how it coped with the recording (taken from a phone call) and the person's strong regional British accent. I liked the interface/UX as a whole, but particularly the way you could edit the draft transcription, with the cursor also working almost as a rewind/playback button. I appreciate the immediate, personal, and helpful customer service as well. Pros As a volunteer advocate for students with disabilities and their families, I attend many Individualized Education Plan (IEP) meetings, most of which are recorded by me and the school system. Being able to capture certain parts of the meetings in transcription form is incredibly helpful to show what was actually said in these meetings, especially when meetings occurred months ago and a child’s rights aren’t being met because the school system promised one thing and did another. Cons I am still on a learning curve using this software, and so far everything I have thought of that would help me I have discovered is already a component of Sonix! Review Source DV David V. Co-owner Internet Used the software for: Less than 6 months ### "Huge time-saver for transcribing videos" January 16, 2021 5.0 A very straightforward and smooth process: create (trial) account -> upload video(s) -> choose the source language -> get notified by email when the transcription is ready -> easily edit while quickly navigating in the video / or script -> download. Pros Upload a video. Wait a tiny bit for the magic to happen. And there it is: a rough transcript of the video which you can easily adapt in user friendly interface. The level of transcription is highly accurate, but of course depends on the quality of the sound. And let's not forget, about the pronunciation of the persons talking. The option to download as doc, srt and other formats makes the rest of the editing flow even faster. Transcribing video to text could not be more convenient. These took a long time and were very costly with a human or trying to do them myself. Sonix made this aspect of my work SO much easier. Pros Love how quick & inexpensive the transcriptions are. You might begin to wonder why you type so much! Pros An intuitive piece of software that does well with a range of different speakers and accents. It captured voices from all over North America including French speaking Canadians, allowing me to focus on interviewing and giving the speaker the freedom to answer in full. It's easy to amend anything that is not quite right and creates an excellent transcript suitable for an academic audience and research records. It worked best for me with Google Chrome. Cons Any initial difficulty was solved by moving to Chrome. Obviously not every word will be true to type, but a surprisingly high percentage landed spot on, well over 95% accurate. As long as the audio is clear, the completeness of the transcript is almost guaranteed. Pros It is easy to use. The audio track and the transcribed text are synced up so that it is really easy to follow along the audio and make in-line edits to the transcribed text. The design is really clear, making it easy to being using quickly. In addition to this, it does a very good job of transcribing so you really don't have to make a lot of edits to the transcribed text. Cons Nothing major comes to mind. It would be nice if it had some integration with third parties. I use my Google Drive for a lot of the work I do and I'd like to be able to pass files directly between Google Drive and Sonix. The transcription (which is the most annoying thing to do manually) works like a charm. The user interface is perfect. It saved me so much time and boring work! Highly recommended. Pros The transcription while not perfect is excellent. The very few mistakes are easy to fix and some would have been made by a human anyway. The user interface is truly great. Super easy to use. Very clear. It helps you edit your transcription so fast. Cons The speech is not so well split. Sentences can be split in the middle and paragraphs could be grouped better. We also use it to create a transcript of final videos for proof of compliance in topics covered. Cons I like the ease of correcting the script in the tool but we did have issues with company specific terminology not being recognized. I haven't tried the dictionary feature to see if it would help. Also, if the speaker is not talking clearly, there are a lot more grammatical errors and misunderstood words. Pros Compared to the days when I used a cassette recorder and a foot pedal, this software was a very welcome advancement! It was rather simple to figure out and edits were easy. Additionally, just by putting my cursor on a word, the voice recording would start there exactly! Cons I think Sonix AI is about as advanced as it can be at this point.
