They have been slow in updating and fulfilling their user's requirements. These steady innovations have brought them higher up in the rankings, but still far behind a much helpful features of Figma. Having new features adding in almost every month but tools like Figma have been blowing it out of water ever since and that may never change. Adobe Xd, for now, is a dud in the UX design software food chain. Pros Familiarity with the software having a similar interface as other Adobe Creative Cloud with a tool panel on the left, the main area in the center, layers, etc. on the right. The new features that seem like they aren't going to stop coming real soon like Responsive Resize, Timed Transitions, and Spell Check are quite helpful. I absolutely enjoy the repeat grid feature. No need for multiple copy-pasting objects every time. Cons Perhaps the most stressful con is not having a real-time collaboration option. Having separate spec sheets and then to have them republish every time editing the design. One who has used Figma will find it tedious to not have the proper tools like text options, layer effects, and image tools. Lacks flexibility in using components at instances. One cannot make changes to a symbol they're creating. Changing the size of a symbol changes all its instances. If you want to create graphics from scratch you can do it right inside Figma, whereas XD is not equipped for this task, requiring a second piece of software instead (Illustrator/Photoshop). In addition, when sharing it, there are several versions available such as: prototypes for developers, for commenting on the design and for testing with users. I also like how all the connecting lines of the prototypes are not showing, which makes the process of making the connections less confusing. Cons It is a little difficult to keep the project organized within the file, as it is not possible to divide it into pages. And it is not very good for creating design systems precisely because of the difficulty in organization and because creating variants of a component is a somewhat complex process. It's also hard to use pluggins with Adobe XD. But I really hope to give more discount for students. Pros This application is really good for creating the prototype or related in that fields. Moreover, I do recommend that this is a cool option to create a websites and application mockups. I am studying design and this application helps me a lot while I have a presentation related to my Designs and advertising my products, I can present my product together with how much I can persuade according to my website design. I am not sure about coding or other technology for coding yet I do recommend this application for prototyping of your own website since there are a lot of options to create as much as you want. I had been using other creating stuffs but I recommend this one according to my opinion and usage. Cons The only matter why feel not very comfortable with using this application is about price. As you know, adobe are for monthly or yearly plans of using the apps, I can use as the University is supplying us. But I believe it’s worth to pay for that. There are many advantages in using Adobe XD and it comes with the Adobe Creative Cloud. Personally, I use Adobe XD to plan out an outline of the software that I am going to build. By using prototyping, I am able to create a realistic blueprint of the software that actually has functionality. Therefore, I highly recommend Adobe XD to people who will be working on the design of software, especially those who already have the Adobe Creative Cloud subscription. Pros There are many great features in Adobe XD that make the experience of designing a prototype a lot smoother and easier. For example, Adobe XD follows the same user interface as other Adobe products, making it is very easy to learn how it works if you have used other Adobe products before. Adobe XD can handle very complex designs and can use large symbol libraries. Prototyping is also very simple in Adobe XD and there is also the auto animate feature which makes the prototype even more realistic. Last but not least, Adobe XD has a large growing assortment of plugins and integrations which seamlessly connect users to various services. Cons One disadvantage of Adobe XD is how you cannot test a mobile prototype on an actual mobile device. This is not too big of a problem but it does take away from the experience. There is no built in animation timeline so it is difficult to go beyond simple animations without plugins. Web Designer Used the software for: 6-12 months ### "An excellent UI design app in progress" July 31, 2018 5.0 Of the tools I've tried (Illustrator, XD, Sketch, Figma, Affinity Designer), XD has been the smoothest most intuitive tool for UI design. Pros Adobe has gotten so much "right" with Adobe XD. It's refreshing and encouraging. At this point, Adobe XD has a decently rich feature set, but it has taken a while to get to this point, and a lot of designers have decided to stick with or move on to Sketch and Figma. One of my favorite features is the repeating grid. Take any element or group of elements, press cmd+r, and you can drag to the right, bottom, or both and the item(s) will repeat. You can also quickly click and drag to adjust the gutter, the space in-between the repeating items. Prototyping is also built in. It's not a feature I've used as much, but from my experimenting, it seems to be implemented well. Cons Adding features has been a fairly slow process. Ultimately I appreciate the approach as opposed to rushing out poor implementations of features, but it's difficult to adapt XD for projects when the feature set is lacking. I can create wireframes, prototypes, interface designs etc at the same place. Cons Installing plugins and sometime the compatibility is very very hard. Cause you have to have adobe cloud app installed on your machine to use it with full functionality and install plugins. It is the ability to go from zero to 60 quicker by skipping some of the long labor intensive steps that used to be required to sell a vision. Pros: - Quickly create a visual working prototype of a design, app, website, and so on - Make voice overs to be able to sell a vision without even being there - Easily preview design with your smart device and integrated app -Quickly be able to make animations to be more convincing of a real working project. I was able to transfer design skills I use in other Adobe programs and get up to speed quickly thanks to this tool. Pros XD helps you go from 0 to 60 real fast. It's my preferred software for UX design. One of the reasons is it really feels like it works with me. It's loaded with pre-sets and makes intelligent, helpful decisions along the way that saves me time and thought. It's fast and easy to get from design concept to a testable prototype. And that's huge. There's always tweaking that has to be done along the way, but at least with XD I'm not starting from scratch every time there's a problem. I can quickly execute changes across the design and re-export with no problem. As someone who is a native of Adobe Illustrator, it was a pleasant surprise to find that Adobe had yet another great design tool in its suite. Cons Collaboration, while supposedly a selling point of XD, has been a weak spot in my experience. It's not intuitive to share and edit a file with others on the team. But since I'm mostly working solo that hasn't been a huge problem. The other con is that the prototype is not live and testable outside XD. It's a huge bonus when you can actually run a design through its paces not only on the screen you designed it, but on a phone and elsewhere to see where the tripping points are. Pros You can easily create prototypes to visualize the end-view the user will have while using your app. What's great is that you can really create a customer-journey based prototype, to make sure your designs are on point in terms of UX/UI. Plus, it's a very easy to use software once you know how to find your way through it. Cons It's just for design, which means, transitions and else are pretty basic. Essentially, typing in any text field only works 10% of the time. This prevents users from achieving a number of simple tasks, such as searching for components (the library navigation is based on search), renaming layers, and typing in CSS/style values.
