It has cut out thousands of unnecessary emails or meetings, and I very much appreciate being able to use this instead of giving out my personal cell number to everyone I work with. Pros At its most basic straightforward usage, it's chat software, and it works great for that. But it also includes so much more! Useful apps and integrations with other software, and fun extensions like gifs and drawing. But best of all, the video calling for meetings and screensharing is 100x less glitchy and less frustrating than Skype. Before this, we would be using either Skype or Skype for Business and it was always a huge ordeal to get everyone's software installed right, and even then it would open 4 windows and only work half the time. Older less computer-savvy users were a lost cause. This is SO much better. Cons One annoying feature is the notifications. For some reason, I'll get emails saying I missed a message 2 days after I've already replied to it and the conversation has moved on. It'll do the same thing on my phone, popping up old messages or showing unread that I've already seen and replied to. Review Source SM Stephen M. Moreover, the chat/call functionality makes Teams become, the only software you need to control everything, including your calendar. Pros The possibility to share a file with the whole team whereby each member is able to update the file at the same time is for me the most used functionality among many others. No need to send files for update to the team and then merge all changes afterwards, with lots of errors creeping in. You gain a lot in productivity and can see the changes in almost real-time. Cons The software seems quite heavy for the processors. You need to have a good amount of memory on your machine to enable Teams to work fluidly with other applications open and running. The more memory you have, the better Teams will run. Else, you will need to close some apps the you are not using. Review Source Steve B. Lead User Experience Engineer Financial Services Used the software for: 6-12 months ### "Watch out Slack, here comes Teams" September 11, 2018 4.0 Teams has replaced about ten different Slack instances in our organization, and in that regard, it has worked superbly. Unlike Skype for Business, which has a long history as Lync, Teams has kind of come out of nowhere, and employees aren't quite sure what it's used for. The previous tool that was sanctioned for use was Cisco's Jabber, and until that license expires, people continue to use that with which they are familiar. Teams is easy to use, has clients for all major platforms both desktop and mobile, and just works. I would expect better integration with other Microsoft tools like OneNote and Skype for collaboration, but while that may be coming in the future, at present this is a solid, but not overwhelming tool for chatting and document sharing. It feels redundant with some of Microsoft's other offerings, and it's not entirely clear which segment of the market Microsoft is attempting to capture here. I've felt that Microsoft could have augmented Skype for Business with a better chat feature and this product wouldn't been as necessary. And, "Skype Teams" seems more intuitive than a standalone product that, while simple, makes a lot of employees scratch their heads and wonder if they should launch it. Still, the app is solid and easy to use, and a good supplement to any enterprise licensee of Office 365. Pros Teams, like Skype for Business, has excellent integration with existing Office applications. The abilities of it to tie into people's schedules in Outlook via the Exchange Server are great. Cons Teams just isn't as fun to use as Slack, lacking a lot of the /commands that Slack has, and thus increasing the amount of time it takes to do simple things like changing statuses. Excellent tool, excellent interface (with dark mode option!) and excellent ease of use. Definitely recommend. Pros I love Teams. My workplace switched to Teams in order to unify everyone on one platform for meetings, chat, file sharing, etc. and Teams totally delivers. We obsoleted about 5 other programs because Teams does everything those other individual programs did, all in one. And it does it well! File sharing is super easy, chat logs get saved (great for when you can’t remember the dozens of conversations you have daily with important info you need to retain), the chat allows for gif and emoji use which isn’t necessary but honestly makes it more fun, and the sound and video quality on meetings is stellar. There’s a mobile version which is super useful for when I’m on a call but don’t want to be chained to my computer desk, and there’s even a function for easily switching between PC and phone in the middle of a call. Love it. Cons The only downside I’ve found is that on mobile, the chat function during meetings is either nonexistent or just hard to find. The is is linked to my Microsoft account so its always easy to remember my password. I like that when I'm trying to connect with someone and I say, "let's Skype" they don't respond with "I don't have Skype". Its an everyone's tool and its very easy to use. Cons I cannot say there is anything I don't like about Skype. Screen sharing is good with room for improvement when it comes to remote control and shared clipboard support. Pros Easy to set up, jump in on calls and share your screen or control other people's screens. With good platform support it is easy to stay connected. Integration with the Microsoft eco system is good. Cons When controlling someone else's screen, things get buggy. They can no longer use the mouse properly and it is necessary to relinquish control so they can click on things. The biggest issue though is the lack of common clipboard. You cannot copy something from your computer and paste it into the remote computer. This means you have to paste what you want into the chat window and copy it from there. This is tiresome and insecure if the data is sensitive. Other competing products (e.g. Zoom) does a much better job of this. Review Source WF Wellington F. Pros Microsoft Teams is quite young tool but it became very popular lately. It provides various of collaboration services like video conferences, meeting rooms, group chats, group calls. It improves the productivity of the team in companies, helps to simplify the working processes, increases overall collaboration activity while working on projects. Microsoft OneNote can be used to take notes while having a group call in MS Teams. Cons Microsoft Teams is still growing and improving its capabilities. It seems Microsoft still has technical issues while deploying Teams for large amount of new customers because of high load of the servers. That's a possible reason of periodical service slowness. Also MS Teams still lack of some features of Slack (its main competitor). Would be great if Microsoft integrates the features of Skype for Business into MS Teams. This will make calling features of MS Teams more intuitive for end customers. Reason for choosing Microsoft Teams As I already mentions we have chosen MS Teams because it's integrated in our MS Office365 subscription. I use Teams for chatting with co-workers, collaborating on projects, hosting and attending meetings, and compiling and storing notes to myself. I like being able to do all these things in one place! Cons I think the learning curve is a little steep for some of the more advanced aspects of Teams. You can chat and do simple things right off the bat, but it takes a little more time/learning to do some of the more complex things like group chats and meeting set-up. Its integration with Outlook calendar especially for work profiles male the online meetings completely embedded in the core business. Cons Some difficulties are sometimes found when you want to share the online meeting link with someone over social media IM or chat, the copied link is too long and in most situations I had to resend the link by e-mail to the inivited person, which requires more time. Pros My company uses Microsoft Office tools every day. Outlook, Sharepoint, To-Do, Word, Excel, OneDrive - they all are somehow synchronised, so Teams are really great to consider, if you are using Microsoft's software. E.g. it allows you to share files from Sharepoint or OneDrive via Teams' channels, which just makes work faster and lets people access these files without a problem. Cons The thing that you can't disable notifications without "Do not disturb" mode is pretty annoying – it doesn't allow me to keep focused because of all the "beeps", and I don't really want to be always on "Do not disturb" mode, I just want to check my messages once per 20-30 min. Arrange meetings in calendar with reminder and links sharing. Cons Not being able to edit once a message is sent when using desktop or laptop (unless app is used on a cellphone, which I don't). It's literally loaded with tons of functions, little apps and add-on modules for task and project management, integration with company knowledge (SharePoint) and scheduling. Of course communication is its brightest side and it may greatly help reduce e-mail overload in any company. I love tiny improvements and frequent new features, which in fact makes this product software in continuous development. Cons You really need to find your way through Teams to make it work the way you want it to. It is quite easy to get lost in dozens of configuration options, rules for setting up teams and channels. Because of its size, it takes some time before it actually rolls out and shows its full potential. Because new functions are being added all the time, you don't really feel it's a finished, concise and coherent product. Some apps (like To Do and Planner, or Planner and recent Milestones) seem to overlap in functions and Teams does not give you a clear answer when to use which. You need to figure it out yourself, which can be a challenge.
