Pros My favourite feature within sage accounting is the versatile reports that are easy to use and provide a good amount of data visualisation. Cons My least favourite part of sage accounting is the initial complexity. This means it is not beginner friendly. I know that I can depend on the Sage service when I'm ready, and my accountant appreciates the ease of reporting. Sure I like the one time fee for software vs a monthly cost - but having a cloud based system and not having to cross my fingers at tax time is a blessing. Updates are built in. Pros Previous Simply Accounting user - Sage was a quick transition for a non-tech like me. Appreciate the ease of the program. Cons Good experience so far - I would categorize myself as a new user at this point. Appreciate the explanations. It has evolved into Simply Accounting and then Sage Accounting. in the 80's and 90's we used to pay between $200.00 to $500.00 yearly and had more for our money then today, you even owned your license. Nowadays it has been converted to subscription type, charge our clients thousands of dollars. and if you cancel your subscription, you can no longer use the software, not even adjust all entries. These days our clients pay thousands of dollars without even owning their licenses. There must be still some other software that allow you to have control over your license. This is insight contemplating to seek other solutions. Shame that in 2026, technologically we may be advanced, however ethically I have my concerns. I still value integrity and recommend to my clients not to fall in the trap of technology, but instead consider their needs. Pros I find Sage accounting to be one of the most user friendly for all types of users. I consider it 95% complete. Which in my opinion excellent. No software solution in the market is genuine 100% complete. There will always be something missing. Cons For Offline users it has become one of the worst. I do not recommend it 100% for offline users. It has become extremely expensive. Without yearly subscription they cannot use the software. Pay thousands of dollars for borrowed solution is not worth it. I have been using the program for over 20 years. I do not use payroll but the other portion of the program has always worked well for me. Pros The software is easy to use. The financial statements are clear. The reconciliation meets my industry standards Cons Does not calculate gst automatically I need to manually do this calculation. Inability to delete an entry if you make an error. It requires you to reverse the entry and then redo it. It has all of the features we need to quickly get our work done and it's not glitchy like Quickbooks. Pros This is a professional level software at a very good price. My firm uses it for all our clients. It's easy to use if you know bookkeeping basics and has a lot of functionality. Cons Nothing. Sage is great. The only issue is that the desktop version doesn't have the ability to download transactions. We tried auto-entry but it doesn't meet our needs. We'd love to be able to import bank statements and have them auto-code the items. Auto-entry only matched with items that have already been entered. Anything with walk in traffic and random misc invoices will be impossible to find later and make life hell for users. Pros Not alot of great things to say about it... does the job for what it is and has decent accesibility but very mid product. Cons Searching for invoices, the QR code for payment, Invoice design, cant preset taxes per customer with excemptions, hassle to track items, customer support is brutal and very disappointing to deal with.
