Our overall experience with Sage Accounting was positive, but it ultimately wasn't the right fit for our business. We evaluated the platform during our selection process and found it to be a comprehensive accounting solution with strong invoicing and reporting capabilities. However, we experienced slower-than-expected customer support and found some aspects of the interface less intuitive than we would have liked. After comparing it with other solutions, we decided to move forward with a different provider that better matched our requirements.

Pros

We only tested Sage as part of our evaluation process and ultimately decided not to select it as our accounting solution. During the trial, we found the platform to be feature-rich, with solid invoicing and financial reporting capabilities, and it appeared capable of meeting the needs of many businesses. However, we found that the overall user experience did not fully align with our requirements. While the platform offers good functionality, we also had a less-than-ideal experience with customer support. Responses were slower than expected, and it was sometimes difficult to get timely assistance during the evaluation process. Overall, Sage seems to be a comprehensive accounting solution with a broad range of features, but based on our trial and our experience with support, we decided to move forward with a different provider.

Cons

The main downside for us was the customer support. During our evaluation, response times were slower than expected, and it was sometimes difficult to get clear, timely assistance. We also found that some workflows were less intuitive than we had hoped, which contributed to a steeper learning curve during the trial. Ultimately, while the platform is feature-rich, it didn't feel like the best fit for our needs.

On balance, Sage Accounting has been a dependable addition to our finance stack. It handles the core essentials — invoicing, reporting, and financial tracking — reliably and efficiently, and the time savings on recurring tasks are noticeable. The main friction point has been customer support responsiveness, but this hasn't outweighed the day-to-day benefits. I'd recommend it to businesses looking for solid, cost-effective accounting software, provided you're prepared to invest a little time upfront learning the more advanced features.

Pros

Sage Accounting has genuinely streamlined our day-to-day finance work. Invoicing is one of its strongest features — creating, customising, and sending invoices takes minutes, and the automated reminders for overdue payments have noticeably improved our cash flow. The financial reporting suite is another highlight: P&L statements, balance sheets, and VAT reports are generated quickly and are detailed enough for both internal review and external audits. It integrates well with bank feeds, which cuts down on manual reconciliation significantly. For the price point, it offers strong value for money compared to some of the more expensive enterprise tools, especially for small to mid-sized businesses that need solid core accounting functionality without unnecessary bloat. Overall, it's saved our team several hours a week that used to go into manual invoice tracking and report building

Cons

Customer support can be hit or miss — response times to support tickets are sometimes slower than expected, particularly during month-end or year-end when queries are more time-sensitive. Ease of use is generally good, but some of the more advanced reporting and customisation features aren't intuitive at first and require a bit of trial and error (or a support call) to figure out properly. A few of the standard report templates also feel like they could use more flexibility for niche reporting needs

I have found it overall very easy to use, I don’t come from an accounting/bookkeeping background and have been able to figure out some stuff on my own as well as using the forums and customer support. I do wish however customer support was available 24/7 and not a bot.

Pros

I like that it feels and is very straightforward. It’s not too flashy, just basic. It’s good for anyone new to bookkeeping or advanced accounting.

Cons

How much everything costs to add on (payroll-additional employees = more $) customer support not being available 24/7

My Quickbooks was easy enough but was having issues transporting data appropriately from our accounts and it was difficult to try and fix

I would say my experience with Sage Accounting was a very positive one. I really liked the project accounting feature that helped us assign expenses to a grant received.

Pros

Very user-friendly; intuitive, especially for anyone with accounting experience; loved the project accounting and reporting feature.

Cons

I found Sage Accounting to be a little pricey after the trial period expired. For a small organization, I'm not sure how long we'll be able to continue with it.

As a small business owner, I'm satisfied with Sage and its cost. For our business needs, it is good enough.

Pros

It's easy to use and start up. I can do my daily accounting quickly. My accountant knows Sage so they can help me when I have a more complex operation to do.

Cons

Sometimes it can be a bit slow. I wish it could be compatible with my website (using Podia) so sales could be easily imported.

Like using it and have for years , preferred package, reporting , Trial Balance , Financials are consistent , easy to use and enjoy using it

Pros

Used for years so very familiar with it , invoicing is strong, receipts of payments works extremely well , just top to bottom it is my preferred software package

Cons

nothing to report , have used for many years , and have nothing to say bad about it , I use for my own company and preferred package, so no down side

It's okay, not the most user-friendly. The price we're paying is not worth it. Should be charged less.

Pros

The reporting feature is good. Provides a lot of detail. Reports are visually appealing. Like the feature of account statements where I can click on the invoice and brings it up without searching for it.

Cons

The invoices and payments/receipts are separated. I would like to see everything under each vendor's or customer's account. I have to do a lot of digging and searching around to ensure we don't pay an invoice twice. I don't like that Sage allows to pay one-off payments without documenting it as a bill. If I look up an invoice or bill, it will not show. I would then have to look under payments to see if a bill was paid. This feature gets very frustrating and is time consuming.

I found it relatively easy to learn myself. Help was ok when I couldn’t solve issues myself. Help often had too many answers to a simple question.

Pros

Value for money, ease of use. We previously used a fund accounting system but it continued to increase in cost while services were reduced.

Cons

Can’t do fund accounting, but found a work around. This involves some extra work, but it is manageable.

The support from their staff was great when we transferred to the online version of sage accounting. After getting help to set-up all our users, it has been great to be able to access it anytime anywhere.

Pros

I like the ability to upload the original invoice so you can view any documentation to go along with any invoices you enter into the software.

Cons

It takes a bit to learn it and there is alot to know to be able to use it properly and use all the features
