### "NextChapter took my practice to the next level"

Pros

The top benefit of this system is the web-based setup, which has allowed me to detach from the office as much as I want or need to. I'm a solo attorney & military reservist, so being able to maintain work "on the road" is critical. This software allows me to work literally anywhere, anytime. Due to the amount of time I was out of the office, I was limited to how many cases I could manage. allowed me to increase my case volume to a level on par with the top filing firms in my market, even with a very non-traditional "in-office" schedule. This was HUGE prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, but it was also a lifesaver post-pandemic, when we quickly shifted from in-office meetings with clients to exclusively online/telephonic meetings. This software allowed us to navigate those changes without a hitch. It also has allowed my legal assistant to work almost exclusively from home. She still only works 1-2 days per week in the office. This platform also performs many of the functions of the very expensive case management systems as well, albeit not as robust as some of the options on the market. But this aspect has allowed me to function as a relatively high volume bankruptcy practice without an additional, very costly, case management system.

Cons

There are a few "tricks" that you need to understand about the software to make the petition documents come out the way you intend, so there's a learning curve. Training & information is readily available, customer support is very responsive about those things, but it's still a bit frustrating. Occasionally, server communication issues have disrupted work on cases at inopportune times. There are a lot of capabilities that the software has that I don't or haven't yet used, mainly because I haven't had time to learn. I hope to utilize the messaging system more in the future to facilitate communication with clients.

Reason for choosing NextChapter

I didn't like it at first. I didn't like the learning curve, change is sometimes difficult, this was no different. I was even annoyed with my assistant who convinced me to make the switch. Also, the software was relatively new & a bit "buggy" that first year or so. But once I started to realize how much of a positive game-changer it could be for my law practice, it was a decision that I'm glad I stuck with. They have worked out most of the bugs & improved the platform, & I've learned most of the tricks to make it perform the way I need it to. At this point, I can't really imagine managing my office with any other primary software.

My younger (millennial) legal assistant thought Best Case Bankruptcy looked "old", and looked more modern. That's literally the reason we gave it a try - my legal assistant (who has since moved on) talked me into it.

It is a good value for the money. I think once I get used to it, it will be easier to use.

Cons

Sometimes it is hard to tell where the software is pulling information from. I spend a lot of time flipping back and forth from section to section to try to figure out where certain information came from.

It helps me keep all of my clients well organized and the interface is way more appealing than the other software I previously used and reviewed prior to selecting . The cloud-based system is ideal; now that the app is available it will be even easier to control remotely so I can review and resolve matters with bankruptcy clients while out of the office.

Pros

I utilitze the texting feature, which allows automated messages and language tailored to my clients both pre- and post-filing. The fact that it's already integrated allows me to keep track of ALL conversations with clients within their record; also, all Pacer notices are filed automatically, any court or 341 notices are automatically calendared and all of my proofs of claim are saved and I can open them any time (without needing to download them each time they come through); I love the ability to save notes in each individual client record so all of the information I need can be reviewed quickly for myself or my assistant.

Cons

I love the software overall; there are a couple of changes that I would make for sake of ease (one example is there is no place to list the trustee for a debtor once the case is filed; this is fairly important for my district and would be nice to make sure this is on the Dashboard and contained within the Client Information). The Next Chapter team is excellent at taking suggestions (I have emailed several before) and updating the local forms or software itself to make sure it is meeting my needs.

The customer service team is very responsive and friendly. The software is intuitive and easy to learn, even for a paralegal with no bankruptcy experience.

Pros

is built from the ground up to be cloud based. I can use it anywhere that I can get access to the internet, even on a tablet or cell phone. I also like that they promise you will always have access to your clients' data, even if you quit subscribing to the software. I like the flow of data entry. NextChapter minimizes entering the same thing more than once.

Cons

does not allow you to store a Debtor's complete Social Security number or any document containing a Social Security number. This means you may have to re-input the Social Security number multiple times, increasing the chance of committing a data entry error.

I looked at several products before choosing to try . When I planned on leaving CINcompass, I narrowed it down to Best Case and NextChapter for my new software. I selected NextChapter because it was cloud-based and more reasonably priced and because of the guarantee that I would always have access to my clients' data in the future.

### "Efficient Bankruptcy Software"

The Cloud based system is awesome. While I used the majority of the time my computer, I have been able to use my tablet or phone to get information about my client including docket documents that I did not have a hard copy with me. I also love the customer support. They are very receptive to not only answering questions, but also accepting suggestions of development improvements. Although not everyone of my requested changes have been made, many have.

Pros

The product is very intuitive for data entry. There are very few instances of double entry. When you have a question, the online quickly identifies where you will put the data for a specific line on one of the bankruptcy form (like the means test) or you can speak with a person through the chat system. I love the fact that the pacer notices get added to the client's matter file. This has eliminated my costs for pacer when a filing would not be saved after viewing it.

Cons

The Chapter 13 add on is not perfect. Making revisions to the Next Chapter Plan can be challenging. Having said that, I have never been happy with any Chapter 13 add on of any bankruptcy software I have used, including the leading product on the market. I have always found it is easiest to use the draft Word version of the plan provided by the Court. I think this task is difficult as each trustee likes having things done their way which no computer program can anticipate.

### "Great Cloud Option with Client Portal capability"

Overall the program is good. We have completed 3-4 filings through this .

Pros

We really love and needed the cloud option, as the staff work remotely. The Client portal is a must, the clients have had no issues completing the information, and the data has had no issues populating the correct documents. Love the Petition check list that ensures all the information is complete before Petition Filing.

Cons

Not too happy that only the initial filing of the petition can be done through the program. Would be nice if there was an easy way to integrate mail of documents to creditors, when needed. Local forms are not user friendly to complete, better off downloading Word versions from the Court's website. We ran into an issue where the Suite numbers of addresses were not included in the creditor matrix... due to the client's use of "#"... would be nice to have some type of warning, as it is a headache to fix with the court. Would be nice to be able to manage files of debtor cases we had prior to switching to Next Chapter, and/or matters where we represent a creditor.

It's been a positive experience; lots of efficiency gains.

Pros

1\. The ability to enter data to create statements and schedules. All bankruptcy-preparation software does this, but is pretty good about (a) cross-populating schedules so you only have to enter data once, and (b) having default values for common items (sounds small, but saves a lot of time). 2. One-click bankruptcy filing. Naturally, you have to check and re-check your work before you're ready to file, but once you're ready, filing is a single click. Love it. 3. Texting clients and automatic text recipes. I can arrange for clients to automatically receive a text message on the day before the 341 meeting with the meeting date and time and common reminders. Cool, right? 4. All online. This is a big deal if I need to work on something from home or work on it with a paralegal. 5. Customer service really is high-end. I have used New Hope (bought by Best Case?) and Best Case, and NextChapter is on par.

Cons

is relatively young, so it's working out some minor bugs. Nothing big, though. I wish that when I selected an exemption, it would automatically populate the exemption to be the value of the asset. Obviously, an attorney has to check this, but it would save me a mouse-movement and a click. There are some smaller bugs dealing with filing (NextChapter won't file an omnibus signature page for me), but I can probably iron those out with their concierge team (just haven't gotten around to it yet).

Excellent experience from the very beginning. There was plenty of information available before the purchase of the service allowing our firm to make an informed decision about the software. The support staff has been very informative and responds very quickly to help requests. The software is very intuitive and the online help center provides good explanations of the entry process.

Pros

Speed of software, intuitive interface, and the very helpful customer support.

Cons

CMI entry and multiple social security number entries are slightly cumbersome, relative to the ease of all other functions. POC's in the PACER Notices have to be opened and labeled.

My experience has been fantastic. Great product for the value. I have been using Next Chapter off and on for the past few years. I work at a small firm (3 attorneys) and I am the only paralegal. has been a lifesaver for me when I needed answers (and forms) in a pinch.

The process is pretty intuitive so even a beginner can do data entry while a more experienced team member can then go in and work on exemptions or means test

Cons

Would like to be able to file other documents through post-petition such as the Financial Education Certificate and Chapter 13 Plan. We have found when working on Means Test that we have to keep refreshing so the calculations get updated.

My overall experience can best be summed up by saying Next Chapter's Customer Service is impeccable. I used to spend an hour or more to attempt to get issues fixed, and I can't say enough about how great Next Chapter is to work with. We can let them know if there is a problem, issue, or if I have a question about how something works. We get a quick response, and Next Chapter works with us to make sure the solution works not only within the software, but for us specifically. That alone would be enough for me to say "get this product!"

Pros

I love that it is completely online, so our firm can access client information, court documents, and client documents from anywhere. The text feature is new for us and both the firm and our clients love it. Being able to set our own fields in a lot of different areas has been really nice, and something we did not have with our prior software. The court notices & calendar features are incredible. I go in and double-check the items, but I have never seen anything missing from the schedule. It's great to know when you can trust your software to get the job done!

Cons

The biggest draw back is the inability to easily run reports on cases filed each month or download a list of all closed clients, etc. From time to time, we have minor issues with searching or loading, but Next Chapter works with us to resolve those issues as soon as possible.

### "Forced conversion, but very happy with the results."

The software program we utilized was purchased by forcing our conversion. I had used the other product for years and wasn't very happy with the change. Once I started using NextChapter and I actually allowed myself to stop resenting the change, I found this program to be a delightful change of pace. If I have all required client documentation at my fingertips, I am able to complete a bankruptcy packet in a few hours instead of over the course of a few days. I didn't want to, but I love my NextChapter software. It has definitely made my day easier.

Pros

The data input covers all the bases the first time around. Information is put in one time and is then populated into the required forms. When I did need a little help, I found the staff quite willing to answer my questions.

Cons

I had to learn a whole new way to deal with data input. All of the questions a law firm is required to answer in order to complete the paperwork (forms) are in the software, however, if you're not paying close attention when you are new to the system, it is easy to overlook basic entry points and become very frustrated. Once you take the time to become conversant with the software, it is a dream to use.

### "Why Every Bankruptcy Law Firm Should Use NextChapter"

Pros

There is so much about that I like, however, I will elaborate only on a few. The most appealing function on NextChapter is integrating the debtor(s) credit report into the petition. Is there anything easier than that? One other thing I like about NextChapter, and it may seem trivial to some, is I do not have to click on any "Save" button at anytime to save the data I have already enter. I can exit the software, come back to it two days later and my previous edits were automatically saved. NextChapter is the easiest and most cost effective bankruptcy software on the market in my opinion.

Cons

There isn't anything I like least about this software. You can upload your client's pdf documents needed to file with the petition and save them in . No more jumping back and forth from your client's electronic folder to NextChapter. It's all right at your fingertips.

Pros

Very methodical step by step process for preparing a petition. Also the speed is great, updates in one area immediately change the calculations in others. I have used other cloud based software where there was a lag and sometime you had to close out and reopen to see the changes. Not with this program.

Cons

Currently how the forms print out, it currently simply puts the data into a standard pdf so the forms do not adjust to the data being imputed (they are not dynamic) but with the direction this company is going I know this will be changed soon.

Having a SaaS based software was critical for our needs. I find the software to generally be intuitive and it is completely reliable. The integration with InfusionSoft and DebtorCC was nice and easy.

Cons

I would like it if there was an easier way to handle the SOFA sign-off process.

### "NextChapter Does the Job"

Very very excellent customer service! They threaten me with hours of waiting, but someone takes on the chat usually fairly immediately.

Pros

I handle exclusively Chapter 7 bankruptcy using 's app. Bankruptcy is not my main practice area, which means that really the most cost-effective way for me to use the software is to use it on an as-needed per-petition basis ... and NextChapter lets me do that. I don't have to buy some big contract that would take 100 petitions to pay for itself. Instead, the pricing is such that I can pass that along to the client with each petition I handle. Also, I like that the app guides us through the required fields and information in a reasonably logical way.

Cons

I'd like to be able to print a preview of the petition before buying it. It's fine that the print product would say "PREVIEW DO NOT FILE" all over it; I get that needs to make its money somewhere and they choose to do that by charging the a la carte customer to download and print the petition. But a preview would be a great thing.

Pros

The online basis is great for working in multiple locations such as your office, home office, and the court. When there are errors the customer support team usually responds within 5-10 minutes and can resolve the problem quickly. They often implement improvements to the software and add-ons.

Cons

Sometimes little things are not flushed out but this is usually only for local forms, where there are so many, and the issue just has not been raised. If you update them, they fix it when its possible.

I have no complaints. It's a great product and it's a great team.

Pros

This software does everything I need it to do and it does it well. I have not had any problems that couldn't be fixed. The software almost always works flawlessly and there are so many features that make my bankruptcy practice run seamlessly.

Cons

The learning curve was a little steep, but this is probably because I had been used to a different bankruptcy software provider and I hadn't practiced in a few years. I can say that the staff has always been available to answer any questions and help me along the way.

### "I love NextChapter"

Very positive, especially for a Mac user.

Pros

I love that this product is all web based. It makes it easy to use from home or even traveling. I always have my clients’ information with me. It also is very intuitive and kept up to date. The customer service has been very helpful when I needed it. They also have quite a few help articles and videos to work through any issues.

Cons

I have nothing negative to say, everything has been great. I have used a lot of bankruptcy software over the years and this has been the best experience.
