February 15, 2026 5.0 Overall, we have really enjoyed using this software for our comprehensive case management and anticipate future use. Thank you for the great platform and customer service. We would recommend! Pros We have really enjoyed using NextChapter for case management so far. The platform is very user-friendly with logical case flow, file previews with data inputs being very straightforward. As a collaborative tool, it provides real-time updates with our internal stakeholder contributions and makes case progression simplified. One of our favorite things that stands above other management systems that we have used is the friendly and attentive customer service. We have had several instances where we had a question or issue arise that needed more than the platform Q&A. Every time, the agent exemplified a level of customer service that is rare. They were careful to understand the issue and provide options to resolution or suggestion to a work around. Cons So far, we’ve only encountered one limitation. Expanding the CSV import/export functionality to include more detailed case information fields would be extremely beneficial. When working with large volumes of data, manual entry is simply not a practical solution. That said, when we raised this concern, the support team was receptive and understood the need. AND. they listen to your suggestions to improve and ACTUALLY implement. Pros I was using ancient bankruptcy software for years, and they sold out and tried to sell me to their acquirer, Best Case. Just then, NextChapter was in beta and I agreed to test it. I immediately thought it was the best iteration that this program could ever be. 3 years later, I feel even more convinced. I can't think of software that I found more suited for any purpose...kudos to the Next Chapter team. Cons Some of the flow is a little confusing, and takes some getting used to, but once you get it, it is a piece of cake. It has gotten better and better with each passing year. Pros I like the interface and the ease of data entry. I also like that the court notices are available to me. Filing cases has been much easier as well. Cons I don't like that batch downloads don't have the docket numbers on the entries when they have them in the nextchapter pacer notices section. Pros I have been so very happy with our Firm's decision to switch over to Next Chapter. There are SO MANY features that have made my job easier. Setting up email reminders so clients turn in paperwork, take credit classes, etc., are invaluable. I don't have to be the one to constantly remember to do this for each and every client anymore. I can text clients through next chapter so they don't have access to my personal phone. The flow of entering a case is easy, clear and you are able to easily move around. They have a complete online Help library that walks you through doing anything on their system and truly nice online chat help. Very happy we make the switch to Next Chapter! Paralegal Law Practice Used the software for: 2+ years ### "seamless bankruptcy preparation" February 13, 2025 5.0 Our firm has been exclusively using NextChapter to prepare Chapter 7 and 11 bankruptcies are a few years. I discovered the product during a google search for a cloud product that we could utilize on a case by case basis. I signed up for the free trial and it met all of my expectations. Pros NextChapter is very user friendly and easy to navigate. As a small law firm, we don't have the need for a product license, and NextChapter's " pay as you go" feature is convenient and cost effective for the 1-3 cases a year we file. The case setup and schedule organization is easy to navigate when entering debtor information. Adding creditors is very simple and you can save common creditors to avoid retyping for each case. Cons It can be a little tricky at first use to decipher how all of the information is linked and displayed on the schedules. I utilize the "preview" feature frequently to confirm the information I entered is displayed in the correct schedule/location of the petition. There is a learning curve, but after familiarizing yourself through trial/error you understand the process. We assist homeless veterans and having the ability to file cases on a pro bono basis is an amazing resource. Everyone that we have had contact at NextChapter has also been very helpful and prompt in their responses. The customer service has been great even though our cases have all been pro bono so far. We will definitely continue to use NextChapter for our pro bono clients, and also our paying clients when we start expanding our services. Thank you for your amazing work. Additionally, it makes the filing of the actual petition so much easier than going through the actual bankruptcy portals. Cons We had no issues with the software but maybe having a "pick up where you left off ability" would help to quickly see what is next to do for a particular petition. Most troubles that we ran in to had to do with the learning curve of having switched from a different product. I do feel that this product is the "better" system for entering and managing the data, but it may take some time to conceptualize if you're transitioning from a different system, especially when it comes to determining how data is linked amongst the various forms. There are a number of features we have yet to implement or explore but that are very appealing. Pros The product is very adept in managing data entry; the responsiveness of the product to the addition, deletion, or editing of data is instantaneous. No buffering or timing out! The 'help' resource is the most comprehensive I have experienced and is very useful in walking you through how to use features and provides step by step instructions (with visuals) for things like e-filing. Cons We are just beginning to utilize the My Chapter client portal feature. So far, we wish some adjustments could be made, such as being able to review the data entry in pdf format prior to having to first submit/accept it to the portal. It would also be nice if this process wasn't 'all or nothing', meaning that a client cannot subsequently add additional information via the portal. While we understand the how and why, hopefully upgrades can be made in the future. Reason for choosing NextChapter Both the demo and features drew us in. The responses and responsiveness to our questions and/or any concerns were managed quickly and well. During a transitional period, we opted to use the online version, which proved to be extremely inefficient for the two years we struggled with it. The portal was extremely slow to save updated data entry, buffered incessantly, and timed-out way too many times. We never got our old desktop files integrated, as had been assured; the integration feature was always a "work-in-progress". Owner/Attorney Legal Services Used the software for: 2+ years ### "NextChapter took my practice to the next level" October 21, 2020 5.0 Pros The top benefit of this system is the web-based setup, which has allowed me to detach from the office as much as I want or need to. I'm a solo attorney & military reservist, so being able to maintain work "on the road" is critical. This software allows me to work literally anywhere, anytime. Due to the amount of time I was out of the office, I was limited to how many cases I could manage. NextChapter allowed me to increase my case volume to a level on par with the top filing firms in my market, even with a very non-traditional "in-office" schedule. This was HUGE prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, but it was also a lifesaver post-pandemic, when we quickly shifted from in-office meetings with clients to exclusively online/telephonic meetings. This software allowed us to navigate those changes without a hitch. It also has allowed my legal assistant to work almost exclusively from home. She still only works 1-2 days per week in the office. This platform also performs many of the functions of the very expensive case management systems as well, albeit not as robust as some of the options on the market. But this aspect has allowed me to function as a relatively high volume bankruptcy practice without an additional, very costly, case management system. Cons There are a few "tricks" that you need to understand about the software to make the petition documents come out the way you intend, so there's a learning curve. Training & information is readily available, customer support is very responsive about those things, but it's still a bit frustrating. Occasionally, server communication issues have disrupted work on cases at inopportune times. There are a lot of capabilities that the software has that I don't or haven't yet used, mainly because I haven't had time to learn. I hope to utilize the messaging system more in the future to facilitate communication with clients. Reason for choosing NextChapter I didn't like it at first. I didn't like the learning curve, change is sometimes difficult, this was no different. I was even annoyed with my assistant who convinced me to make the switch. Also, the software was relatively new & a bit "buggy" that first year or so. But once I started to realize how much of a positive game-changer it could be for my law practice, it was a decision that I'm glad I stuck with. They have worked out most of the bugs & improved the platform, & I've learned most of the tricks to make it perform the way I need it to. At this point, I can't really imagine managing my office with any other primary software. Attorney Law Practice Used the software for: 1-2 years ### "Next Generation Bankruptcy Software" April 29, 2021 5.0 After switching over to NextChapter, I did run into some issues with the software not properly filing certain aspects of the petition. Specifically, many of my clients opt to pay the court filing fee in installments, but seems NextChapter had not yet coded that feature for filings in my District (Arizona). After bringing it to the attention of customer support, their team worked to remedy the coding issue and ever since then it has been smooth sailing. Roughly 1 year into the software I opted to upgrade my subscription to include MyChapter, where clients can directly enter much of the information needed on the petition. This feature is much more convenient for my clients over filing out paper forms and is a huge time saver for me and has allowed me to continue operating as a truly solo practitioner (without the need to hire outside legal assistants) even during very busy months. On the few occasions that I have need to some customer service support, their team has been rapid in their responses and very pleasant to work with. Pros I can access the software from anywhere in the world on virtually any device. Cons Initially there was a learning curve after having used a competing bankruptcy software for over 8 years. After about 3 months of using the software I grew to prefer it over my previous software and have never looked back. Knowing that their support team of professionals include experienced paralegals who have focused their career on bankruptcy law reassures me that not only can my technical questions get answered, but often a legal issue I haven't seen before they will have dealt with, and can point me towards the relevant law on the issue. Pros When my partner and I first opened our law practice, the idea of learning bankruptcy law both appealed to us and frightened us. While both of us had extensive litigation backgrounds, neither of us had ever worked in the field before. We also practice in a rural area, so the number of bankruptcy cases were likely to few and far between. Every lawyer we spoke to strongly recommended a bankruptcy case management software to generate all of the documents and notices that must be filed correctly in order to get your clients the relief they need. Of all of the programs out there, only NextChapter offered "by case" pricing, perfect for our firm that only handles 1-2 cases a year. Couple that with friendly, professional, and knowledgeable customer support (with a real person that will call and talk you through issues), and I became a NextChapter believer. Now, NextChapter integrates with my regular case management system, CLIO, making my life even easier. Cons The integration with CLIO is a little clunky...while standard bankruptcy tasks get uploaded wholesale from NextChapter, there is no automatic sharing or uploading of documents between the systems. It's not a huge gripe, as most of what you need to do with document generation you will want to do in NextChapter anyway, but it would save time if it would upload completed documents to CLIO. Reason for choosing NextChapter Our firm looked at other products, but the "by case" pricing, paralegal support, ease of use, integration with CLIO and good customer support has made it clear to us that NextChapter is the right program for us. In the last two years the software has grown and changed by leaps and bounds. I now feel as though I know the software quite well. The program has changed to be much more user friendly and does what it needs to do. It improves every day and I am excited to see all of the things it will be able to do in the future. Pros The best thing about NextChapter is the customer support. The team is always available to help with any questions we may have. Additionally, whenever we have made suggestions on things we would like to see with the program or changes that need to be made, those suggestions are considered and a lot of times implemented into the software. The software is intuitive, particularly the layout and menus; & once I get used to it, the workflow goes pretty fast and efficient. The training team and technical support are always available. They actually help me to be independent in finding information. The Help Center, Webinars, and Videos as awesome resources. Pros It's up in the cloud so I can work anywhere, in or out of the office. The transition is quite easy while we're doing a parallel run between NextChapter and our other system. Cons Below are most like due to the fact that I have fully learned or discovered the ins and outs of NextChapter. NextChapter does not allow me to edit the forms inside it with the Debtor(s) information. It has to be downloaded and edited externally. We tend to customize further the information in Petition (changing to no asset when there's minimal asset left), Statement of Financial Affairs (adjusting the signature page to be on the last page to allow for any last-minute revisions in pages 1-6 as needed without having to ask the Debtor for new signature), CMI & Mean Test (same as the previous signature page situation). With NextChapter's Property Analysis, it does not give me yet a big picture of the case where I can see exactly how much of the exemptions are left or if I have gone beyond the exemption limit. Same thing with the CMI-Means Text and SOFA. I am still comparing NextChapter with the existing system our office is replacing. Both have their own strengths and weaknesses, but I am so amazed at how easy it is to transition into NextChapter. November 8, 2017 5.0 Freed me from Windows software and all of the compromises that involves. Gives us the chance to be a 100% Macintosh office after many years of hybrid solutions. Pros We are all really enjoying using NextChapter. I've uploaded a number of documents that we frequently download and use, including Client Service Agreements, Credit Counseling Instructions, Suggestions of Bankruptcy etc. We tried Cincompass about a year ago and hated it. We were with BestCase for over 10 years but were frustrated that there was no cloud solution for them. Then about 2 or so years ago BestCase announced they had a "cloud solution" which was really a Citrix virtual workstation. While Citrix "worked" it just added a whole layer of confusion and required training for my team; plus it did not have 100% uptime. Plus, it was very expensive, starting per month and almost per month as I added users. This was on top of the BestCase maintenance agreement, which also grew over the years. So NextChapter has been a great improvement for our firm. Cons The software has a few growing pains (when compared with BestCase), and you do need to adjust your workflow a bit, but not too much. That's why I give 4 instead of 5 stars for Features & Functionality, but I expect it will continue to grow and improve.
