Pros: This is a very user-friendly legal research database. It has the standard citation, keyword and wildcard search capabilities. You can search across jurisdiction and there is a large library of secondary sources (available at additional cost, of course). It's part of my bar membership, and is a welcome benefit as an alternative to some of the larger, more expensive options.

Cons: Sometimes the searches don't return the number of results it should. It just seems to go a bit wonky, but adding / removing a term definitely helps.

Hello,

Thank you for your feedback on Fastcase! We appreciate knowing how easy and user-friendly you've found the application to be, and that you're enjoying the access as part of your bar membership!

Regarding the searches not returning the correct number of results, if you could, please send us an email to support@fastcase.com when this happens again. Please include the search you ran, the results it provided and the results you anticipated receiving. We would like to replicate the experience and find out what is or is not happening in the application. Feel free to email us or live chat us in the application when you see it acting wonky. It's always helpful to hear about issues happening so we can quickly resolve them.

Sincerely,
The Fastcase Team

Pros: Fastcase provides attorneys and other legal professionals with a comprehensive, affordable, and powerful tool for conducting legal research. Don't make the mistake of thinking the traditional "big players" of the legal research realm are better because they cost more. They're bloated with stuff you don't really need and lock you in with long-term, auto-renewing contracts. Fastcase is a very transparent company that will not disappoint.

Cons: My only con about Fastcase is that statute and rule annotations are not yet available in my State.

Overall: My overall experience with Fastcase has been nothing short of absolutely fantastic!

Hi Mr. Shepard,

Thank you for your positive feedback about the Fastcase application and your experience with the Fastcase team! And thank you for reinforcing the need for Maryland annotations. It is (and has been) on our list of updates needed.

Sincerely,
The Fastcase Team

Pros: I like Fastcases' citation checker feature. The software gives clear case mapping, allowing the user to determine whether a case is still good law.

Cons: The statute look-up feature is a bit cumbersome. It takes multiple steps to find previous versions of statutes, rather than intuitively linking to the appropriate version.

Pros: It offers basic search tools and does a great job of highlighting bad cases. It is easy to navigate. You can also set up specific alerts to receive email notifications of when a case is cited.

Cons: It doesn't have all of the bells and whistles of other legal search engines, but it gets the job done.

Overall: Basic state searches are free through my bar discount. I can get a national subscription far cheaper than other search engines. For the price point, it does great.

Pros: cost vs benefit is higher than other products; the form of printing cases is easier; you get right to search and don't have multiple lawyers of extraneous bloat ware screen obfuscation

Cons: Support not as robust as other products; they have changed front end interface that does require re learning

Overall: I get to see cases without extra fluff, and get to them quickly

Pros: I can find what I want, assuming I know what I want.

Cons: Very few additional resources and pales in comparison to Lexis or Westlaw.

Overall: Came free with state bar membership, and remains a great tool I introduce interns too.

The Ford Taurus of legal research. Not glamorous, but gets you to the same destination.

Pros: I honestly think this should be shown to law students, not Westaw or Lexis. It's a much more positive experience to start with this and work your way up to the features that make these other products worth the money (allegedly). I rarely find the need to compare results with the higher end engines, and when I do, rarely do I get the results I hoped for.

Cons: I wish the interface was more clean. Oftentimes you are missing easy hits because the suggested replacement terms is clueless.

Pros: I use this product at least once a week. It is very easy to use. It provides a comprehensive database of case law from around the country. I highly recommend it.

Cons: There is no shepardize feature. Otherwise I haven't found any other issues.

Pros: My favorite part of this program, is that many sources are provided to Florida lawyers free of charge!

Cons: Unfortunately, there is no ability to Shepardize or otherwise confirm status of case. Also, if not careful, it is easy to go back to the wrong point in a search and overlook cases of import.

Overall: Free and easy search of caselaw and statutes.
