Cons I don't have any complaints about the program, it has stolen the market from the MS product I used to use. That can include removing or replacing backgrounds, cropping or resizing, or using AI to make small adjustments to correct for photo imperfections. I have used it for two years now. Every upgrade has made the product more difficult to use. Pros Canva has some decent features. The AI is pretty good. I appreciate the details Canva provides for images. Cons Canva is entirely too complex. It makes the simplest tasks (like cropping an image) nearly impossible to do well. You can crop, but you can't see the dimensions as you're doing the crop, and in some cases, Canva creates another layer behind the image that is the same as the UNCROPPED image, and doesn't provide any option to remove that new layer. The images are often not updated on Canva's screens unless you restart Canva. The navigation is ridiculous. Pictures show outside of their projects or folders, with no indication of their "home". There are very few options for users to set their own defaults, no way to record actions so that you can run them against more than one image. As of today (March 2026), Canva's "Erase Background" replaces the background with white. You have to actually download a png image in order to make it transparent. Review Source AK Arvind K. While many of the best features are paid, there are still a plethora of templates that can be customized to suit each brand. Pros As a non-designer, Canva simplifies the entire process of generating social media posts, invitations, etc. The number of templates already pre-loaded into the program make designing work less intimidating but also provides the ability to customize those templates based on brand colours or preference. In addition to customizing layout, the built-in ability to upload logos, photos, and icons allows for further personalization of each template. The ability to export the design in multiple formats is very helpful. Cons Unfortunately, the cost of Canva can be quite intimidating for a smaller business. Many of the most unique templates do require a subscription and the same applies to many of the most unique icons, fonts, etc. The only other con is that internet required to generate designs. The interface is fun and easy to use and it seems like they update it regularly with new features. It looks pretty and it's easy to share with people what you're working on. We also build presentation for the Sunday worship, create poster and flyers, and even integrate it into our digital signage platform Pros Canva can do anything you need it to. We use it primarily for printing, but it also contains a great image editor, as well as video editing tools for creating short videos. We even used it to create t-shirts. We also use it as a presentation software. The team at Canva takes suggestions seriously and is regularly rolling out new updates. We have added 2-3 new people to our team recently and they all are thankful for how easy it is to use and find what you are looking for. One of the biggest perks for us is the cloud-based sharing. Edits can be seen in real time and groups make it easy to share to exactly the right people. Cons There no not a native "print" function, so the finished product needs to be passed through another software, like Adobe Acrobat, to print. I absolutely love their presentation builder and the included animations, but as of yet, have not found a way to integrate direction to our church presentation software, so we have to pass it through PPT and typically lose some of the styling. I run a small digital marketing side hustle in Nigeria, so I’m constantly making social media posts, flyers, WhatsApp status designs, pitch decks, and the occasional e-book cover. Canva has become my daily go-to tool. My real experience The first time I opened Canva I was shocked at how easy it was. I’m not a designer at all — I used to struggle with PowerPoint and beg my techy friends to help me. Within 30 minutes I had made my first Instagram post that actually looked professional. Now I create stuff in minutes instead of hours. The mobile app is also a lifesaver; I design on my phone while in traffic or waiting for a client. The collaboration feature is gold. I share links with my VA and she can jump in and edit without any back-and-forth WhatsApp screenshots. The new Magic Studio (AI stuff) is actually useful — the background remover and magic edit have saved me so many times when I’m in a rush. It’s even better if you have Canva Pro, as you can remove or replace image backgrounds, edit images in general, and do so much more.
