When our team learned of the benefits and tools of Canva Pro, where we can buy a subscription that can house our brand standards and housed pre-created templates for others to use, we gained instant capacity. It was a way to ensure our brand standards were up to par, templates were pre-approved and team members were empowered to work on their own flyers, posters or designs, etc., and not have to wait for turn-around times. It was also a way for the Communications Department to house all designs of events related to our 20+ programs, and allow us to be in the know of what was happening around the organization. It's also a very easy, efficient tool that any one at any level can use. Cons When using canva for our team, we have noticed that features for folders can be improved a little more. This can help us stay more organized, especially as admin, as others share with our main communications account for reviewal. Pros This is a really great tool for creating simple and repeatable designs. We have used it to create social media posts, flyers, and even our annual report. There are many things I like about Canva: \* There is a good library of free-to-use graphics and clip-art. The pro-version (reasonably priced) now includes the right to use every stock-footage photo and asset on the site. \* It is so intuitive and easy to use. I have used Photoshop and Pixelmator on the Mac and although they are very powerful they have a difficult learning curve - Canva does not have all those features, but you can get many (most?) tasks done quickly and with no training. \* It is very template driven, so you can work from existing templates that they provide, or create your own template to use. We designed a template for our social media posts and can now adapt and reuse it very simply. \* You can upload your logo and the corporate colours you use with your brand and they are stored in the site and easily accessible every time you create something \* All of your work is stored and conducted online. Furthermore, it has empowered people on my team without ANY knowledge of other graphic design software to produce good-looking graphics that are consistent with our brand, reducing the demands on me to personally take care of ALL the graphic design needs of my organization. Pros While I have taught myself to use other forms of graphic design software such as Inkscape and to a lesser extent, Adobe InDesign, lately I have found myself increasingly using Canva as my go-to graphic design tool for 90% of what I do. I use Canva for Work now, and love that I can have brand colours and fonts at the ready, and can easily produce designs in just the right dimensions for various applications without having to look up what those dimensions should be. I have given access to my Canva account to colleagues so that they, too, can generate quality, on-brand designs, and the more I use Canva, the more templates I can make available for others on my team to copy and adapt. I also find the fact that it puts access to vast libraries of free and paid clipart and photos at my fingertips extremely handy. In this sense, it was very useful for both of us. But I found myself working double because it was so hard to use that I ended up designing in Illustrator and rearranging the elements later in Canva. But it might be because I have always worked with Illustrator so for a new user it would not present the same issue, especially if it is someone that has no experience in graphic design. Pros It is very easy to use and it has many templates, although they are quite generic they can be used for a quick solution. Most of the elements are drag and drop but this presents some challenges if you want to get creative with the layers. Cons I feel that everything I do here looks exactly like what I see in every Instagram account that exists. The results are somehow generic. Good quality, but creativity feels hindered. The template sizes are there for you, ready for any social media format for posts and for ads. That is an incredible time saver. No messing around with other imaging software to layout text on images, filters to create these. While more features are now under a pay wall, there is a considerable amount offered by Canva that you can use on your own and share with teams. That makes it easy to get updates/feedback on designs by adding people to your teams. Also, you can set a style guide which is available under the section Your Brand. Overall, Canva has put a lot of excellent effort into the tool. Pros Canva offers a quite a lot in the free version of the software, what I love most is the functionality wrapped in a beautiful web app. You can create images that are sized for different social media channels like Pinterest, Facebook Banners and posts, Twitter, Instagram. They have a very large selection of free templates you can choose from and customize. It's easy to change text size, colors, position, and once you get used to the layout of various boxes/blocks (text, background, effects) you'll see how much you can vary, from colors to transparency. I love that it's easy to duplicate a design and create variations of the same template. Cons You used to be able to create a graphic in a certain size, i.e., for Pinterest and then at top left select the Magic Resize option. That would let you take that graphic and have it resized for something completely different, like a Facebook banner ad. It was really excellent to have that included in the free version, and it's a bummer to see it completely gone. I get it, companies need to make money. It would be nice to see it available to create at least one time something like three different sizes from one template to show how easy it is to use as a tool, and add to the incentive to purchase a subscription. If you're creating a design and want to pull something in from a previous design you created, you can't access those earlier designs unless you upgrade your account. It feels like it can get a bit slow, it's a good idea to check how many Canva tabs you have open because each time you click on a new design, you open a new tab, which will consume your resources. I didn't rate their support simply because I think in my years of using Canva I have literally had only positive experiences and I don't think I have ever had to contact support. I plan on continuing to use the Canva Pro and I recommend it to anyone who needs some graphics or designs for their business. Pros First, I totallly love Canva! I was an early adopte of Canva back when it was still in Beta and you needed an invite to get an account. So I have been using it for several years now. It is my go-to place to create graphics for social media profiles and posts, blog posts, posters, Facebook ads, website graphics, logos... you name it! Barely a day goes by that I don't use Canva. What I like most about it is how easy it is to create professional looking graphics, without knowing how to use a complicated program like Photoshop. Depending on your background, the learning curve to use it is minimal. If you can drag and drop and click you can use Canva. Cons There are very things I don't like about Canva. You can do a lot with just the free version and that is what I used for a couple years. Eventually I upgraded to the pro version because it had features that allowed me to do things I needed to be able to do. For example, with the free version you can't create png files with transparent backgrounds. So that limits what you can do, especially if you want to create logos. But this isn't really something I dislike about the software, just a reason why I upgraded to the paid version. Another benefit is that one of the offices for which I work has implemented Canva as the main tool to change the size of many of the designs I have developed, which gives me more time to serve other clients with greater complexities. It is a graphic resource that I have managed to adapt as an assistant in which my clients leave the ideas that I end up improving to fulfill their interests. Pros As a graphic designer it is an absolute wonder all that Canva has done for many people. In my case, I really liked the possibilities it offers me to provide better care, both to my clients and to the bosses I work with. I like that anyone can take the path to graphic design, I have managed to give classes on how to design using Canva as a basis of work. Also, I like the almost unlimited graphic resources they offer for work. I like very much that based on my designs, my co-workers advance some elements that their departments need. Canva is the best option if you're searching for a platform to create and modify your material.In general, Canva simplifies and simplifies design, especially for novices. Pros I really like how Canva integrates with other social media networks so seamlessly. This platform enables the direct posting of designs to different social media channels, with the option to schedule the uploads at a later time. Since I can simply schedule uploads after creating my designs on the site, this has made content management really simple for me. I particularly like that the background-removing function is now accessible for both the downloaded final design and the design-related parts. This provides the finished designs a very tidy finish, especially when printed. Cons However, usage of certain of the design components offered on the Canva platform is not permitted for print on demand. This may cause designs to be removed from print-on-demand websites, which may be quite discouraging. The fact that it is not regarded as a talent is perhaps another aspect of this program that I would say I dislike the least. Considering that it can accomplish just as much—if not more—than Photoshop for a novice, I find it to be quite limited. On the project page, you can't have more tools like for example layers, effects, background...etc. Not enough tools like the Erase tool, Selection tool, Remove Background tool, Color Hunt tool...etc Don't have a lot of text styles and effects to choose from. No stroke tool to add Stroke to the elements or the text. The pro version comes with a huge resource library (called "elements") (royalty-free photos, videos, and graphics.) that can also be edited.The drag-and-drop feature is efficient and allows you to import content, edit it, rearrange it on your project, and export it in no time.The 'background remover' feature is one of the most efficient tools I've ever used to remove picture backgrounds.Finally, when you create a project, you first choose to what media you want it for, and Canva will automatically adjust the size, saving you the time to tweak the size on your own afterward.Canva templates contain typeface and colors that you can edit to meet your needs (if you have a preferred style or a brand style, you can change the color theme in a click) Cons The collaboration feature is great but not included in the pro version, and therefore comes at a more expensive price.For some reason, the 'export to Instagram' feature doesn't work for us, it opens Instagram in camera mode.
