I've been using Canva for a long time, starting for when I worked for a non-profit and we needed a cheap graphic design tool. They offered a free pro account to nonprofits so I was sold. Fast forward 2 years and I had built every one-pager, logo, flyer, web graphic + on Canva. Their branding feature makes it too easy to brand every graphic. I filter everything through Canva (labels, stickers) just because it's so dang easy to use. Also, it's where I fell in love with graphics and realized I had a real knack for design. I also thought I was terrible, but Photoshop was just to robust of a learning curve for me. I now use Canva for my personal business daily and I just started using the 'post to pinterest' feature they have. The posting and download in different file types feature is ridiculously time saving. Cons The only thing that comes to mind is when I create multiple graphics in one 'document', and then I go to schedule a post with one of those graphics. You can't go back into that document until it has posted. Although I understand, it does shift how I organize my posts to accommodate this issue. It makes me happy to sign-in and find my uploads and design projects all waiting there online. I have bought a paid subscription just to use extra features (such as transparent background and animated GIFs!) and I thought while the free version was very robust the paid version has priority support and I appreciate that. Pros I like the way Canva can problem-solve a design need like no other design app. I've used Canva both on a tablet and as the desktop version. If you're in a tight spot and need an attractive brochure, poster, birthday card, banner ad or any other imaginable advertisement, Canva does the job. Canva app gets a complete novice designing in seconds with an extensive offering of quite respectable templates. Something I love is that it also supplies the printer's specifications on a downloadable document if you actually want to take your Canva creation to the printer. This takes the mystery out of that process and makes designing professional-quality documents a fun and versatile process. Cons I found the drag-and-drop responsiveness was not entirely responsive on my tablet compared to a desktop where it worked with ease. It's a little memory-intensive and so I was also frustrated by a crashing app on my ipad. Canva has a series of "design school" lessons on using grids, font choices etc. that seem helpful but I don't think any serious design house would really want a portfolio that was created from templates. Original work using the tools in Photoshop and using other Adobe Creative Suite software is still the industry standard, Canva is drag-and-drop. The lessons are short and rudimentary design basics, but still helpful in terms of design literacy for people. There is a bit of a feeling that people can sample the creative efforts of true designers through templates and call it their own that made me avoid templates. Review Source Ricardo S. There are always good things. Cons Sometimes Canva presents errors when we try to edit photos that are too heavy. Sometimes I have to reduce the number of pixels in a photo so that Canva can work on it correctly. I am a teacher and I also do some freelance marketing work for a few restaurants. I use this program for both. I have used it to make my own graphics and designs for multiple startups and it has saved me thousands on having to hire someone. I love that you can print directly from their site so everything is all in one place and the quality of the prints is excellent. Not to mention the packaging is delightful! They are doing an awesome job, and I recommend them at every chance I get. Pros This product is so easy to use and because it's online I can pull my projects up from any computer or mobile device. It is so generous in the amount of design elements it allows and they continuously keep up with trends making designing so much easier for me. Cons It has so many choices that sometimes I get stuck trying to decide. I think its a great problem to have and I hope they will not change! But, sometimes I spend hours choosing between their awesome fonts. They have so many choices that I have to go in with a strategy. I give myself three minutes to pick a font, or an image, or element, and I force myself to make a choice. Otherwise, i'll spend hours browsing and choosing between fonts. Pros Canva is incredibly easy to use, even if you've never worked with any kind of design software. It provides everything you need to design high-quality graphics of all kinds, whether you know anything about design or not. Their "Design School" videos and articles are useful for people new to design, but also for sparking ideas and jumpstarting creativity for experienced users. I use it myself, my company uses it, and I recommend it to all my self-publishing clients. Cons I have only two minor quibbles, and the way Canva goes, they'll probably have them fixed by the time this review comes out: I wish Canva kept a temporary list of the fonts tested in a particular design (even if they weren't chosen), and I wish the stickers were searchable, or appeared in search results. In both cases, I end spending a LOT of time scrolling. I just do periodic visual communication and photograph altering for web-based media and site content, which made paying for an Adobe membership rather costly. I love that it is incredibly simple to utilize, and I don't need to contribute a ton of time learning specialized programming. Canva is ideal for novices, who need incredible substance. It has accelerated my work process extensively, and the formats permit me to deliver superior grade and present day plans. Cons I genuinely have relatively little complaints as I view this platform as extremely valuable. Canva makes creating beautiful, professional-looking designs accessible to people who are not necessarily trained designers. You can use the tool in the most basic way: choose a template and switch out the text, colors, images, etc. Or, if you're like me and enjoy digging into features, you can get quite sophisticated. Pros I use a Canva Pro account, mostly on the web, although I have the desktop and iPhone versions as well. My designs are primarily for the web, specifically social media. The platform's design is gorgeous. From the moment you land on your home page, you feel you're in the perfect environment to create amazing visuals. Canva has hundreds of templates in dozens of formats sized appropriately for their intended uses; or you can create a design with custom dimensions. To find a template, just type a keyword such as "Instagram" in the search bar and you'll get a list of template types (stories, feed post, etc.) for that platform. You can even use the search bar to find your own designs! The templates are easy to customize; or you can start with a blank page if you wish. You can choose from a wide variety of design elements (images, illustrations, videos, etc.); or you can upload your own. You can organize your designs and uploads into folders. Those folders are accessible from within any design as well as from your home page. Cons Several times, I have not been aware of a feature until I came upon it by chance. The sheer volume of design elements can be overwhelming. I tend to be very particular and spend way too much time looking through dozens of options to find the "right" one. Opening and closing all the menus and tabs to access graphics and formatting tools can be a bit cumbersome. However, getting accustomed to using Canva's keyboard shortcuts would be helpful for that. The apps lag everywhere and you can't create a single design through the software. It will shut down by itself after working for a few minutes on it.
