A fantastic tool for both professional and personal use, and a huge time and money saver! Pros I absolutely love Canva. It offers anyone the ability to create polished, professional, creative graphic designs with absolutely no design experience. Their designs look beautiful in both a personal and a professional context. One of the best things about Canva is that, unlike many other software options, it is incredibly easy to customize each and every aspect of your design, even if you start with a pre-made template. The process for uploading your own images, changing fonts, colors etc is extremely intuitive and does not require design or software experience. The templates are high quality and extremely varied - there are categories for every design type you could need. While the free version offers a huge amount of functionality, the paid version is also great value and provides even more design benefit. Cons The only thing I would like to see different is that there are occasionally bugs where a design won't download until you refresh the page, or a few changes might not be properly saved. I personally still stick to PS for most of my work, but if there is a need for quick design work - canva is my choice. It solves for a very specific problem for me with little issues. However, when an issue does arise, it's very frustrating because of their slower and hard to reach customer service. Pros Love that it's relatively easy to use - great pricing, too. Canva helps me with the simple, day-to-day marketing needs of my company. We are a boutique firm, so do not have a full-time, salaried graphic designer on site. It can sometimes be time consuming dealing with an independent contractor who may or may not have immediate availability, and so Canva helps me in a pinch when I need to create professional looking designs for digital or print. And I can go back in and edit without incurring additional fees, like I would with a graphic designer. Cons I've had issues with the functionality and customer service is not great, in my opinion. They intially made it almost impossible to actually get in touch with anyone when you had an issue, and even still it's not very timely. Several saved designs I had were all but ruined when they did a software update some time ago and it affected EVERYTHING and they did not really have a fix for it. Pros When I first started out in marketing, I was having some trouble explaining a concept to our in-house graphic designer. My boss at the time (VP of Marketing) gave me some advice, "Amy, every marketing person has to also be an amateur graphic designer - because you can't always get what you want.. from a professional designer." I took it to heart and became quite proficient at MS Paint. In fact, I actually resisted the first time someone tried to introduce me to Canva. But once I gave it a try, I got hooked. Now I don't even have to have a concept in mind. I just look through the different templates - choose one that fits my goal and customize it. It's quite easy to customize each design element/layer. There is enough tools to do what I want, but not too many to be overwhelming. I mostly use Canva for business purposes, but it's also fun to create birthday cards and other personal stuff. Cons I wish it was easier to change the background size after I've already started a design. For example, I'd like to save a finished design, then duplicate it and adjust the size. This would be helpful for creating a set of banners. Reason for choosing Canva Someone saw me using MS Paint, and forced me to try Canva. I enjoy the abundance of templates available for use, and feel that I have access to everything I need without purchasing the “pro” version. The templates available are well designed, and it is also simple to create my own design from scratch. I even have my high school students use this to create infographics about research topics and they enjoy using the software as well. We can easily share designs and connect through our g suite, and they are able to collaborate on projects together. Cons I’ve found it more difficult to create planners and organizers as there isn’t an option to insert/customize a calendar, so I have to insert a table and then add individual numbers to create the calendar. I’ve found this to be a bit tedious, so would appreciate the ability to just insert a calendar instead to streamline that process. I respect them and their expertise. However, there are times when our clients don't have the additional budget, and we don't want the look of our materials to suffer. That is where Canva saves the day. Even my staff with NO design sense can't mess it up. It has been a lifesaver with social medial, and the photo library is very diverse which also saves us time trying to locate images without copyright issues. We use it for social media posts, website buttons, flyers, PowerPoint presentations, postcards, business cards, you name it. Pros I like EVERYTHING about this product. The templates are diverse and easily adaptable to match client color pallets; many times the system grabs the colors from your artwork so you can easily match other items. The Resize button is magic, and I have recently been using the new video feature. The fact that you can hit a button and have it professionally printed (yes, we still do that sometimes) is great too. Spend the money and pay for the Pro version! Cons There isn't anything I don't like about this product. I hope they keep adding templates so we have fresh options. I wish you could add grid lines to help with the layout a bit more. The entire process of using the site is completely intuitive, there is no need to have prior knowledge to start using it.
