I have recommended to a lot of other friends who would like to do light editing without committing the money for one of the more expensive tools. Software Engineer Hospital & Health Care Used the software for: 1-2 years ### "GIMP is Great for Nonprofits" April 9, 2021 5.0 With GIMP you get way more than you pay (which is nothing), so it's hard to really argue against using it when your budget is more limited or you don't need everything that other advanced editors have (e.g. easily edit .ico files). 90% of everything you need, 100% free. Pros I work for a very large nonprofit and since GIMP is free, that is a huge plus as I don't need to spend time justifying money expenditures, and can instead do my job. GIMP is fairly powerful and can do most of what I need it to do, which includes advanced photo editing. Cons It doesn't do everything other, somewhat expensive photo editors can do, but it does about 90%. It's not the easiest to use as far as editors, but it's not the worst either. This is great for pulling images off other images. Can edit on the fly, or make a large image from scratch. Cons It's kind of confusing, there is no tutorial and the help function isn't very user friendly, but a quick youtube search generally will help with any questions or features Review Source JR John R. Pros This free software ex extremely powerful. I have used it to edit graphics and create new ones from scratch. It reads and writes to a ton of formats, can do transparent backgrounds, layers, etc. It has all the features I need in graphics editing - and then some Cons Its kind of a silly name - and yes I know it's an acronym, but Gimp is also a derogatory term, and I think we can do better. A user can feel comfortable with its interface if he has used Photoshop earlier. Its filters also are a great tool to modify images. And of course it is being updated very frequently, giving the user a feeling of safety about the product. I was able to remove backgrounds on different images to place them on the award. Pros First off, it's free, so that's amazing, though I would always recommend donating. Secondly, it's has all the functionality of photoshop. This program allows you to work with pictures and other images to make posted, visual aides, and more. Pros One thing that Gimp stand out more and that I like more about gimp is that you get to create very simple artwork and thumbnails done in minutes. Of course if you are new to the software it will take you a bit more time until you become more familiar with the User Interface!
