A great way to condense and categorize communication channels.

Pros: Moving from a workplace that did not use Slack to one that did really highlighted the ease of communication within it. The ability to mention people directly in channels makes it easy to make a message widespread but only alert certain people whom it affects urgently.

Cons: The search feature can be hard to filter through. The conversation feature, where a thread continues off of a single message in a channel, has never felt intuitive to me.

Pros: Slack is a fantastic tool for team communication. You can create multiple channels for different topics/teams/projects. You can have your random/social discussions (e.g. fantasy football, politics) in channels separate from the rest of the important stuff.

There are lots of integrations that can be added.

Easy to upload files, pictures from Dropbox/Drive/OneDrive/local.

I really like the customizable emojis/reactions.

It allows for light-weight communication (like an IM) as opposed to heavy communication (like an email). @mentions makes it easy to make sure relevant people see what you're trying to communicate. You can comment on a post (creating a sort of sub-channel) without it interfering with the rest of the discussion.

Keyboard shortcuts.

Cons: There are restrictions (or at least cost barriers) to the number of integrations a team can have, amount of files/posts that can be maintained, etc. It would be nice to have a mid-tier pricing that lets you mix and match integrations, users, post-storage, etc.

There has been a lot of development in the team communication space and Slack was the primary driver of that. It will be interesting to see how Slack adapts to all of the new features being developed by other solutions. Features I would like to see: snoozing notifications, decisions, task creation/assignment (aka actions), ability to embed a channel into a website/intranet team page, groups, and sub-channels.

Overall: Easier, light-weight communication. Easier/cleaner than email. Get info from whoever has the answer, not just who you think has the answer.

Light-weight, efficient and team-oriented

Pros: Ever since we started using Slack, our communication and teamwork has never been better. This software offers a wide spectrum of features and supports various APIs, bots, or extensions. It also has great tools to help with day to day tasks, such as reminders, file sharing, private boards and so on. The mobile application is also extremely well made and works flawlessly.

My team's communication and overall response to everything has been improved.

Pros: Slack has become our 'go to tool' for internal communication, collaboration, and resource sharing at work. Whether conferencing or chatting with one employee or several, Slack enables us to quickly ask questions, share ideas, and post helpful resources with one another in a safe, secure environment. In Slack, all of our conversations and resources are archived and searchable, helping users reference important discussions that happened days, weeks, or even months ago. In addition, Slack features a very robust API, allowing integration with third party application like Wordpress, Salesforce, and email marketing platforms.

Cons: Slack has been incredibly industrious with their product roadmap, releasing new features at an aggressive pace. It would be very helpful if there were accompanying notifications, tutorials, and/or webinars that were available for users to help ease them into seeing the new changes. It can sometimes be a bit unnerving when changes occur that users are not aware of and this sometimes happens with Slack.

Overall: Slack helps our organization communicate and collaborate more efficiently and effectively and helps us do so in ONE tool. Rather than having to use multiple tools for chat, video conferencing, text, etc. Slack enables us to do all of those things in a single tool that is both dependable and easy to use.

Pros: I like this app its very easy to use and I can communicate with anyone! I like that it has out of office and other useful chat groups as well as direct messages.

Cons: The notifications going to email each time I miss them is a bit much. I wish that it would I could get a pop up like a text message.

Pros: You can make different groups with different people. This way we can include people that beed to be included rather than having everyone on the post. I use slack with my fellow co workers but I also use it with my clients that I speak with frequently.

I like to use it like texting its nice to get the notification that pops up just like a text so I don't miss any important information.

Cons: The desktop version works well when it is installed although. It seems difficult on my mac just during setup

Overall: you are connected at all times

Pros: Easy to use, allow multiples conversations, sending files, calls, read GIF and runs easy on mobile or with Franz for example

Cons: Hard to say, maybe that the free version is limited to 10k message, so if you have an active team, chatting a lot, you can't archive everything. But they can't offer everything for free :)

Overall: Help to gather people (coworkers, friends and users)

Pros: My favorite feature of Slack has to be the webhook integration with bots. Being able to configure a 'robot' to pop into a chat room and deliver important information in real time is as useful as it is cool.

The availability of a free tier is great for those who want to see how Slack works, and it isn't crippled version. Webhooks and bots are available, and messaging gateways to support IRC and XMPP make it easy to include legacy messaging systems, or let users remain on their preferred open platform without being excluded from Slack.

Thanks to its popularity, many people are already familiar with Slack, so it is pretty easy to find people that are already using it.

Cons: It's proprietary software. My preference is always weighted heavily toward open source solutions whenever possible, and the messaging and collaboration space has no shortage of excellent open source options.

I'm also not a fan of 'needing to install Yet Another Messaging App'. Luckily the way I use Slack is compatible with the XMPP gateway feature, so I can just connect to that using Pidgin.

Overall: The chief benefit I receive from Slack is the ability to communicate with one of my vendors, and to receive status from bots using webhooks.

Pros: I like the possibility of integrating with other third-party apps. Creating threads (parallel conversations within a channel). Including yourself as a contact to post reminders. Easy to deal with attachments, like seeing them instantly and not needing to download. Good (but nedds improvement) search feature.

Cons: Public and private channels are confusing. List of contacts is reduced automatically, you cannot 'see all' and search for someone like this, you have to keep adding them back again. Search needs the exact words, and it searches all conversations, you cannot search something you know you chatted with a specific person. Many menus and settings are not intuitive.

Overall: Easy company communications with searchable chat history and integrations with third-party applications.

Pros: Makes it really easy to get quick answers when I'm working on a project and need to check in with someone. It also allows me to socialize and take a breather from being heads down in a project. I love that you can have both public and private groups/channels. It has helped us build social groups within the company such as our Book Club.

Cons: Sometimes the notifications can be a big distraction - however, you can turn them off or change settings to only get a notification if you are directly mentioned.

Overall: ease of communication and efficiency, socialization.

Pros: Slack is being used in our entire organization as a main collaborating software. Slack keeps your team in one place and provides great features to communicate easily. So easy to setup and has short learning curve. Designed well and simple to locate any tool as you want. All chosen specific threads located perfectly and you can use every single feature easily. No more phone calls and emails in workplace. Also has mobile application to reach and check your contents quickly.

Cons: Sometimes notifications being late, and even there were time that I did't get my messages, Video quality and overall multimedia access need improvements. Search feature isn't working properly.

Pros: I love how easy it is to use. My favorite feature is the reminder where I can tag someone's message to remind me either in an hour 3 hours or tomorrow. The Emoji and ability to add custom emojis or reactions are handy and provides levity. It is easy to highlight and use basic formatting. And Slack does allow you to star or highlight certain conversations for easy reference later on. I also appreciate the ability to link back to a point of time when you search for a keyword.

Cons: Sly customers sharing permissions that I'd like the ability to override. For example when I want to share something from a private channel to a public Channel it should give me the option to override and maybe perhaps confirm the action. Also sometimes it's a little bit slow or buggy and uploading documents. Lastly would be nice to share files to another user without having to download it

Pros: Slack allows multiple businesses and hundreds of employees to all communicate with one another so easily. We share ideas, thoughts, pictures and ask each other questions. It has absolutely enhanced how efficiently we run the inners of our business. I think it also helps us come together as a team.

Cons: One thing that I would like to change about Slack is the ability to add people to the channels. I wish they were able to add themselves to the initial channel in the very beginning. I don't always get to it right away and I would like employees to get started on it right away.

Overall: Its great how it helps communication throughout the company and so easily.

Pros: I use Slack at work to chat with my colleagues, both who work in-house and remote. We moved from a different chat software to Slack and at first I was hesitant. But I'm so glad we made the move. Slack is easy to use and easy to configure. My favorite parts are being able to turn all noise off (which surprisingly was not a feature in our last chat system), and the ability to keep everything organized in different channels.

Also, we use the free version. We haven't found the need to upgrade to a pro version. So that in itself is a pro!

Overall: Ability to chat with people in my work office, and outside the work office.
Ability to "mute" notifications, which makes this a stress-free chat (yay)
Ability to save money because the free version works for us.

Pros: I like how easy the service is to use. My team, Marketing, doesn't require the fancy bells and whistles that other teams in our software company need that Slack provides however, we use it constantly. It's easy to make groups and keep those conversations open, unlike Skype for Business, and creating custom emoji's makes work fun!

Cons: The video feature isn't the best quality though it seems Slack is pushing updates on a regular basis and trying to fix bugs in that feature.

Overall: The biggest benefit our team gets from this software is ease of communication between individuals as well as with team with multiple contributors. It's easy of integration with other software services is also a great benefit.

Pros: I've been using Slack for quite a while now. Using it with a team of 15 people. I also have used facebook workplace and Chatwork, just to see what else there is but always came back here. It's easy to use: I use Slack in Japan with Japanese coworkers, some of them don't speak English. Now Slack is available in Japanese, but for the last 3 years when it wasn't, UI was still simple enough and never a problem even though Slack was only in English. isn't this a compliment? haha With 3 years I did experience some bugs (partly my fault cause my Phone was a bit outdated), but customer service was always there to help and they were super fast & updated the app to fix it. Free plan available. Everyone on our team is always online so it's very easy to chat: you could argue that this is the company culture or team's responsibility but if the UI is difficult noone goes online and everyone starts useing other ways to communicate (experienced this with Chatwork)

Cons: Sometimes app updating on Windows 10 was funny: inconsistent icon designs on the Tab Bar. But maybe that is Windows 10s fault but never had this happen with any other app If you are on the free plan, you need to store important conversations somewhere else because old messages disappear, but we just use Slack for communication + sharing, and Google Drive for storing important data. Important data should be stored better than just in a feed anyway. Problem Solved. I think people tend to think less what they write on Slack compared to email. So you sometimes end up spending more time talking about something on chat and wasting 2 people's time, whereas on email one person thinks until it's worth sharing, then sends the email, so less time consuming in total. but in the end, it's good to keep conversation running so maybe not too big of a contra.

Pros: Slack enables to effectively communicate within a team, enables you to be organized by using sub groups and dedicated threads for each topic. The ability to integrate 3rd party applications like google drive, github, etc to share files between teams is great. The slack bot is helpful in getting to know about the applicatio.

Cons: One thing I wish I could do is more easily choose a GIF to post instead of sifting through random ones that pop up. However, sometimes this is even better because you'll find some really funny GIFs you didn't know existed. I also wish I could create a separate sidebar that has specific people in it at all times. Such as a grouping of my team.

Overall: It is fast to use in general. Like it is very usable when you want to talk to multiple people and even want to send them files for instance. When programming comes into play you can show code snippets to others too with Slack.

Pros: Slack has by far the most intuitive and visually appealing interface out of all the popular chat room applications. Creating individual conversations and rooms is a breeze and works exactly how you'd expect it to. Easy to set up and use. The ability to create public and private channels between users for fast communication to everyone involved. It's Free for a small company.

Cons: The push notifications are confusing to get set up and seems to have a few bugs. A channel must be created to include more than a certain number of users in a group message Can be overwhelming and disorganized if you don't keep up with the notifications as they come at you

Pros: Slack is very easy to use, it had great interface, and it's got great integration with many 3rd party applications. we use slack to communicate between sites and help each other with day to day task and solving problems. The mobile application works OK most of the time as well.

Pros: I love Slack as a real time collaboration tool that operates more like a social media platform. It keeps things light and fun, while serving as a way to quickly and efficiently communicate in a variety of ways, whether it be DM, group DM, or private and public channels. It also serves as a all -in-one archive of communications with easy search functions.

Cons: I wish the app had a bit more beauty to it. I understand that with an app that has many features, it can be hard to make the UI super gorgeous. But it could be better.

Pros: Slack is really very easy to use, I love it. It is simple to use and allows for efficient, quick responses. I am just a user, but as a simple user, the app couldn't be more efficient than it already is. Having group channels is great and private conversations with coworkers without having to go back and forth with email has been wonderful.

Cons: The only thing I dislike about the app is that the notifications seem glitchy - sometimes I'll be notified of a new post or a response, and sometimes I am not notified.

Pros: Connecting with and communicating with others is very simple. The interface for users has a very easy learning curve. I've seen a variety of people using the app despite being unfamiliar with chat/team organization apps. They typically have no issues in using it.
The app also allows you to turn off notifications and specific times! Amazing. I can't tell you how many times I've been annoyed late night chats you can't mute.

Cons: The way to connect conversations is usually via hashtagging. If people misspell something, it tends to create various, and often unnecessary, hashtags.

Comments: Overall it's amazing and has been a lifesaver. I highly recommend it to anyone managing multiple projects with different partners.

Pros: I am working on over 20 projects at a time and this helps keep me organized. I love that I can add a star two important items that need to be referenced throughout the project. As dialogues can become long especially when a project lasts more than a few weeks. I also really like the fact that some channels can be private or public and you can include whoever you want or not. The desktop version is also very helpful as it gives me notifications in case I miss something. I can't recommend it enough I don't know where I would be without it right now.

Cons: There really aren't too many negatives here. It would be great if there was a separate area where images and documents could be held that could be accessed on the sidebar. Also it would be nice if there was a way to have several contractors on one job but your conversations with each private.

Cons: When working at a large company this can get a little convoluted. It's just the nature of the business but it can get a little overwhelming at times.

Overall: Working at a large company means collaboration can get overwhelming. Jumping from office to office is a hassle and barebones chat applications such as Google chat just aren't enough. Comments: Switching from email-only communication to Slack has been great for my nonprofit team! Slack is similar to an instant message service, so people can quickly type out and send a message to the entire team, without having to craft a formal email. Also, because Slack lets its users create different "channels" (separate conversations focused around particular topics/themes), it's very easy to keep the communication for a particular project contained in one designated area, without creating the same bulk as you get in email, where each reply copies the increasingly long entire history conversation history at the bottom. Because of these different features, online communication in our workplace has become much more efficient and, as a result, I've found our team to much more engaged than when we communicated purely through email.

Pros: Clean and modern interface, easy to use, group communications are more streamlined than in email, and users can create different channels for different people/topics (public or private)

Cons: The notification system for the desktop application can sometimes be a bit wonky. Although the app will be open and running (though minimized so it's not actively seen on my screen), I sometimes won't receive a notification informing me that someone has sent a message in one of my channels.

Comments: Per the above con, I'd actually advise that less is more when using Slack for your business. Also it's basically just IRC circa 2000 with a new UI and a monthly fee. :P

Pros: Slack serves a purpose - it isn't quite email, it isn't quite IM. The channel functionality allows for group chat and there are bots and other tools which simply aren't offered by Skype.

Cons: It can become overwhelming - it's difficult to filter through the noise and the notification customizations help but still create an inherent problem: people expect that if they tag you, send a direct message, or send an urgent message to the channel that it is received and read in a timely manner. On the other hand, if you open Slack for all of your alerts, you'll spend half the day operating out of it.

Pros: Brilliant user interface design, file handling and a massive range of integrations can make your team work very effectively in a distributed manner... if they can concentrate on the task in hand!

Excellent business features with logging and administration of chat streams

The integrations are just incredible, this tool becomes more like a dashboard and activity stream than chat app once you have it wired up to this that and everything with an API.

Excellent native applications which are consistent in design and behaviour across platforms

Cons: Some people just don't get it... treat it like another whatsapp, detracting from the task in hand.

Can easily become spammy with too many integrations adding feeds

Can be all too easy to "miss something important" because it gets swallowed up in a long chat stream. The signal to noise ratio can be poor!

Overall: High quality workplace chat application, IRC for the modern day... Can be very productive if used carefully and considerately, especially with sensible integration choices

When incorrectly used it is a horrible distraction!

Pros: It's clean, customizable, and relatively easy-to-use, especially for smaller teams. Centralized file-sharing and collaborative tools make it helpful to stay on top of multiple projects.

Cons: Real-time communication is pretty obnoxious when you're relying on it for 90% of your organization's communication. While switching to Slack did cut our email usage considerably, the amount of noise that a messaging solution such as Slack generates is frustrating.

It's very difficult to keep track of conversations, and with a bare bones reminder system, it's not a great tool for collaborating on multiple projects. There's simply too much going on, and too much expectation that you're "always on" because it's real-time. Slack becomes a distraction far more often than it helps ease the pain of inter-department communication.

Overall: It helped cut our email usage considerably, and makes file-sharing a breeze.

Comments: It takes new employees at our company no time to get used to Slack - it's super user friendly.

Pros: Slack is fantastic for modern workplace messaging and team collab. I love the integrations with Trello, Salesforce, and Google Drive. It's fantastic for collaborative file-sharing and team projects. I also love custom emoji and Giphy integration - not essential for the workplace, but once you have it, you can't live without it.

Cons: Slack has occasionally experienced outages or been slow to load, but these issues have always been resolved quickly in the past.

Pros: That it can do so much. I haven't used it to the fullest capabilities, but they have made it easy for developers to plug into the software. There seems to be a plug in for everything you would want to do.

Cons: I have found that editing certain settings can be hard to find. I have had to google how to do certain things that I thought would be pretty intuitive

Pros: It's friendly and simple to use, you get the right notifications from the right people and has a lot of customizations.

Cons: Slack is a great work tool, the initial idea behind the product was making work not feel like work, however it turned into taking work to wherever you go which gets exhausting. Lately has got limited and expensive.

Pros: The number of plugins, ease of making channels and adding people etc. Shortcuts. Emojis. The list goes on. Its the best of trillian, messenger, and AOL chat, but with plugins you can instantly access gifs, create memes, and more.

Cons: You have to pay for those plugins and they are expensiveee! slack costs a bit too much for my tastes.

Pros: you can use it to alert in real time if you have any problem in your system, also if you use a corporative mail it will add automatically to the working group. is so easy to use, in a few words is a perfect tool to a work team.

Cons: It doesn't have video call and conference call. It is a big mistake as it is indispensable. The discrimination in the chat is severe, maybe they need to change that.

Pros: Slack is perfect for talking direct messaging, group messages or syncing team communication across multiple locations. When given the opportunity, we've introduced it to our clients for new projects where communication is key.

Cons: The video chat and screenshare is lacking some. It tends to lag, or replace the screen with large black boxes on slower connections. Audio does not seem to be effected by this though.

Overall: We noticed better communication and collaboration from our team after using this project for some time. It's also nice to be able to search back through the messages from months ago and recall what was discussed at that time.

First time using it, it's pretty easy to maneuver.

Pros: I like that it will show my most recent conversations up at the top of my list. I also enjoy being able to use and add my own emojis.

Cons: I keep getting notifications that I am running out of room. Also, when I am trying to find a someone to continue a conversation with, I might have to type their name into a search bar to find them. I wish it would just show ALL of my conversations to the left side panel.

Overall: I am able to reach my co-workers very quickly and I am also able to group them together according to certain projects or issues that need to be communicated to large groups.

Pros: The platform is very fast on mobile and desktop app. We have tried other platforms and none of them is as fast. It is also very clear and easy to use.
The main benefits is to completely get rid of internal emails. Any email needs to include a person external to the company, otherwise it should be in Slack.

Cons: Slack is the premium product in its category so it's a bit expensive.
The inability to see whether someone has seen or not a direct message is also inconvenient.

Overall: Declutter my email inbox and save time. Easier and faster for informal communication.

Pros: I like that it keeps a history of files shared. My team uses this to share larger files, and it's easy to go back and re-download something if you need it again. Works 1,000X better at IMing on a Mac than Skype for Business.

Cons: The multiple streams can get a little confusing if you have a lot of them. It's also difficult to set my status and remember to change it when needed.

Overall: IMing feature, file sharing, records of team discussions, integrates with Asana for task management.

Pros: It is an excellent alternative to any other internal work chat; It is a simple tool and very easy to use from the first moment, the chat is not cut and the bandwidth consumption is very low

Cons: If you do not hire the paid version, over time all your files and conversations are deleted, so all the important information should be stored somewhere other than the platform.

Overall: We use it regularly in the work for internal communication and with the client; It is an easy way out of any communication problem that already exists and saves us a lot of time in general.

Pros: I tried to submit this and something went wrong and now I have to write this all over again but if this should tell you anything, it's that Slack is so amazing that I would rewrite my review for it again because it's that great. The greatest thing about Slack is that its the best at what it does, but it's also really great at a lot more. Great team chat, but also great video calls, task management, document sharing, direct messaging, etc. Slack is redefining companies communicate with one another. Pros: Its extremely easy to use. I have it on my work computer and on my phone just in case anyone needs to contact me from work. I can easily make group chats for specific projects if needed. Its also great to use if you need to share a file quickly. They also offer a flexible price range.

Cons: It's hard to add a con because Slack works exactly how intended. They only minor gripe I have is that contacting customer service seems to be only through email. I'd hope that eventually they'd either have a call number or chat support for quick help.

Overall: If someone is looking for an easy and quick way to keep in contact with coworkers and/or share files, this is the best way.

Pros: For those of us who grew up on IRC, Slack is the newest upgrade. A little flashier than IRC but not in a detrimental way. Slack keeps our team moving and communicating since we're an entirely remote org. Numerous integrations with bots and other apps helps to keep everything in one place.

Cons: Sometimes it's a little difficult to figure out how to change certain settings--the menu is not entirely intuitive.

Can distract from actual work if people end up chatting

Comments: Although it has its cons, this is by fay the best IM app I have ever used.

Pros: Works better than Skype for Business for mobile notifications and the web app works very well. The notifications work just as well and are as reliable as text messages.

Cons: I wish the mobile app would mute notifications while on the phone. Group conversations always ruin my phone calls. Only other con is that I don't always get notifications after a snooze period or after nighttime period.

Pros: I love the vast number of integrations, and also the ease of integration with anythings else, slack brings in addition to a very well thought-out business communication suite. Plus the free tier is so expansive, many small businesses can run their entire operation on it!

Cons: Slack "nails it" on so many things that this is a very small nit-pick. It performs quite well inside an organization, but it would be great to bridge the next gap of emailing with clients (which they might have some ability with gmail or other integration- I haven't explored it much).

Overall: This software provided a very clear and concise path to review lots of different software products. I hadn't heard of it before I was referred, but I can see myself coming here to look at reviews of business software before I buy.

Pros: We love the fact that you can now screenshare and video conference with a simple click. I also love that you can have slack notify you on key words and the notifications are so very easy to use!

Cons: Often times we rely too heavily on the software and things can often times get missed. An important conversation with a colleague can be looked over if you simply click away from the conversation. I wish there was a way to better remind yourself of important communication or a quick way to create a task list based on a conversation.

Overall: A fantastic way for companies to communicate more efficiently and more effectively with each other. It's also a great tool for uploading files quickly to your colleagues and peers.
