Pros Wix revolutionized the website building market, in the old days, mid 2006 to 2012, building websites was something very technical, only people with knowledge in HTML and CSS basically could build sites, Wix is an excellent choice for lay users, that with a little creativity, can build sensational sites, without the need for knowledge in HTML or CSS for example. Cons Due to the large amount of tools available, it can look like visual pollution, and the lay user can get lost due to the large amount of tools. Pros Wix is a very simple and easy software to create your own website. I first used Wix when I was required to create a website for a class in college. With Wix, you can use the templates they have provided depending on your company or what you will be needing a website for, or you can start with a complete blank state and build your website from the ground up. I currently have a website with Wix that showcases my graphic design and photography portfolio and I am also in the process of building another website. There are many features you can add to a website such as forums, a chat box, or even a contact page to name a few. I like how Wix functions and its layout as you begin the process of creating your website. I find it easier and I like it better than other website builders. Cons There is one prominent feature of Wix I do not like. For example, Wix lacks the ability to cooperate with different screen sizes. It does not downsize the different features and text you've added to website when decreasing the dimensions of the website. To explain further, if you were to take this very page you are currently viewing, and decrease it in size horizontally, you will notice that you are able to still see everything that is included on this page. Nothing gets hidden. However with Wix, if you decrease a page in size horizontally, the features and text stay at the original set dimensions and with the page decreased in size, you now have to scroll left to right to see what else is added to the page. This is something Wix needs to fix. However, if you prefer templates and don't mind paying, other website builders might be more for you. Pros Wix is the perfect platform for someone who is beginning to build websites, or for smaller websites. Although it has less impressive pre made templates as competitors like Squarespace, it is the cheaper option and allows you to fully build a website for free before deciding if you want to pay for a domain and officially publish your website under a proper domain (websites can be published for free but will include WIX ads). The customization available, though it requires some true learning to truly understand, is wonderful and allows one to build a good-looking and impressive site with no coding experience. Cons My only wish would be that Wix had more pre made site or page templates, though they now have the Wix Site Builder which uses AI to somewhat mitigate that problem. I like the fact that Wix is so user-friendly and has SEO functionality. The selection of templates they offer for a variety of businesses is great, and the design tools are easy to use, including the drag & drop feature. Plus, you can make as many changes as you want, whenever you want. If you want a new look for your website down the road, you can have your current website up while you create a new one. You're in control. Even if you're not especially creative, the Wix templates will spark ideas. Or you can check out other business's websites for ideas. And using Wix is so much cheaper than hiring a website designer, who will charge you not only for the finished website, but for any changes you wish to make later on. With Wix, if you want to add additional pages or add products to existing pages, you don't have to take out your checkbook again, you just have to login and edit. It's that simple! Cons I really can't think of any negatives for Wix. I mean, you'll save money AND you'll have complete control over your content, year after year. What's not to like? Cons I think that WIX should make a feature which can change your template after you start editing your site. If you want cheap and simple, better to go with Wordpress. And if you want more, just go with Squarespace. Pros Wix is a drag and drop site builder, so it was very easy to use. It also allowed for some HTML/CSS modifications without paying extra - which gives it points over Squarespace. There were also some great templates for photography that had more editability than Wordpress or Squarespace in some elements and had a more varied aesthetic in terms of template options. Cons Wix's free version plasters its logo over sites in a way that is much more gaudy and obnoxious than Wordpress. Its paid version is a lot less sleek than Squarespace and the SEO was terrible. I tried every basic fix - given that you shouldn't be having to dig too deep when you've chosen a drag-and-drop builder - but nothing worked. Googling my business name didn't bring up my business. I've never experienced any security issues with their cloud-based platform. Cons There are less expensive options to purchase a domain name outside of Wix, so I would recommend connecting to a domain name you already own. Because it was something that would only be useful up until the event date, it was a breeze to set up -- there wasn't a lot of need to diverge from the excellent template that I chose to use. I utilized an online RSVP widget, and that was particularly easy and pleasant to deal with, and helped a lot in my organization of the event. Pros By far the best things about Wix is the ease of use, as well as the fact that it is accessible to anyone of any skill level in website development. It's very simplistic for beginners, can be a total "WYSIWYG" product, and is intuitive in the way the development functions work -- things like dragging and dropping to certain parts of the web page work as you would expect them to. There are many templates to choose from, but if you have a better knowledge of web development and are just looking to save time and cut some corners using Wix, you can use Wix's API to customize simple elements very quickly. Similarly, there are different price points available that correspond with what you are looking to get out of your website from Wix. Cons The biggest drawback with Wix that I found was that it only supports professional web development up to a certain point. If you are building a smaller, simple site for a client and don't wish to delve too much into creating your own web applications or using the API extensively, it works just fine and can save time. Pros If you’re relatively new to website builds and are looking for a great one stop shop then Wix is the place for you. The free basic website building capabilities are fantastic and it’s really quick to build using templates and drag and drop. The management dashboard is also really easy to use and understand. Cons This depends if you are on the free or paid version as the free version naturally is not as robust as the paid version and if you’re looking to build lots of sites or super robust sites that load quickly then you do need the paid version. The interface is easy but not simple as in it is not always perfectly intuitive but you should be able to learn it in a reasonable amount of time. Cons I am not a web designer nor web developer but I was determined to create my own website when I first started my business. I compared several options including Wix, Wordpress, Weebly, and Squarespace. At the time, I decided to trial each that I could but realized a trial was not enough to really get to know the platform. I pulled the trigger on Wix and initially thought it was great and easy, but performed rather slow even on a fast laptop. Wix was a good learning experience and I can see it being beneficial for some. I sought help on a few occasions including a billing concern only to discover Wix's support was only a forum and there was no chat, email, or phone support available. This was wildly discouraging but they eventually resolved my billing concern. After about a year, I grew unimpressed with Wix and decided to explore WordPress and I have never looked back since. Wix's primary appeal is for very non-technical users yet it is not simple enough for the very non-technical in my opinion.
