It was so frustrating to work with. Trying to optimize for mobile is a hassle and the mobile versions of complicated websites don't look professional. For a simple website, I think Wix can be useful, as it is easy to edit using their drag and drop editor; but I'd recommend avoiding the hassle and using a different platform. Pros Drag and drop design features mean that you don't need to use any coding for the website. Someone with zero web design experience can create their own website and edit it fairly easily. There are a lot of apps you can connect and many features for e-commerce. Cons Wix has been an unending source of frustration for me! My company built their website with Wix before I joined on and still continues to use it, even though I requested switching to a different platform. The biggest issue for me is its terrible mobile conversion. The website does not automatically optimize itself for a mobile platform--you have to go in and adjust each element manually in a "mobile version". I've never had that happen with other platforms and it's extremely frustrating; make a single change when you're editing the desktop view and it completely destroys your mobile version. The mobile options are limited and IMO the mobile version looks awful. I think for a simple website--like an actor or musician bio, a small business selling physical items, or a restaurant--Wix can make a great site. But our website is fairly complicated with event calendars, registration pages, information pages, blog, etc., and it just doesn't work well. There have been so many times where I've wanted to be able to do something specific and the platform just doesn't allow it. Another huge frustration is that you have to pick one of Wix's pre-designed templates...and then if you ever want to change it, you literally have to re-do the entire website. As my business has grown, I have come to appreciate even more capabilities in e-commerce, reports, automated tasks and CRM. I like the Wix platform so much that I volunteered to create another site for a state-wide animal lost and found service. The new site had completely different features than my business site: user generated posts, links to outside programs, API incorporation from a third party. In other words, lots of techy stuff in addition to the pretty stuff. It was making this site that I truly appreciated the added capability of WIX's coding ability. I'm not an expert (far from it), but we were still able to make some fancy stuff work like a charm! Cons The more I work with Wix, the more I want it to do. Sometimes the features are already added, sometimes not. The nice thing about finding a feature you want that isn't available yet is that you can up-vote it.
